Can't Write to SD Card/ Downloads folder - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't edit/delete on the SD card or in the Downloads folder. It says it is deleted by still remains.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik cache which didn't help.
THe TWRP settings app says that the SD patch is applied.
I tried CHMOD it to 777 but root explorer gets denied permissions.
I tried to CHMOD it in TWRP but it doesn't stick upon boot.
I checked the permissions.xml file and it has the proper settings.
I check SDFIX and it says my card is already fixed.
However everytime i try to download something it fails, or if i try to delete anything on the card it fails.
Im on a rooted LG G3 running 5.0.2
Fixed. Used Int-SDCARD write fix app to correct error

[Q] dalvik-cache I/O error

I have a rooted desire and have just flashed a new rom and then found I had problems re-installing handcent sms. Looking a little further I found a file
data at app at com.handcent.nextsms-1.apk at classes.dex
that can't be updated. I have tried to delete this file manually in the terminal but I always get rm failed I/O error. I have also tried deleting the dalvik-cache from the clockworks recover and the file still persists. What can I do to fix this, is the internal storage corrupt.
The "at"s should be @s but the forum kept telling me I wasn't allowed to post external links.
If the file is in /data/app just manually delete it using a file explorer

Root Explorer Error

I just unlocked, rooted and restored all files in my nexus. I went into root Explorer to delete unwanted files and am getting a delete failed error every time I try to delete a file. Also my screen shots are no longer saving it says storage is in use. Anybody experience anything like this after rooting?

Are you trying to delete system files? Do you have SU installed? Are you clicking the R/W option. More details please.....
Several people have reported the issue with screen shot, to fix it they've had to rename the pictures folder(Seems like the folder is read only).
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
No system files just old pictures, music files and other misc. It is set as r/w, also I am getting a few apps saying I need storage available that is writable. Something has to be up with the internal storage not allowing me to access or write to it.

Well I am able to take screen shots by renaming he folder. However, I am still unable to write anything to my sdcard or modify files through root Explorer or any other file manager app.

Root explorer - How to text edit
Hi All,
I have a problem with my root explorer. I am not able to open a file to edit. If i long press on a file , i dont get any option to open/edit the file.
i was supposed to edit gps.conf file under /system/etc but unable to do so from root explorer.
PS: i mount r/w from the root explorer every time i try..
Please help.
If you have any directories/files that you can't modify or delete, then boot into CWM recovery, plug in the USB cable, go into adb shell. Also make sure that /data is mounted in the CWM mounts menu. Then:
cd /data/media
chown -R media_rw.media_rw *
root explorer delete failed

i'm having this crazy "delete failed" error every time i try to delete any file in sdcart, external, and root directory (copy-paste, root, permissions works fine )
i tried to delete any remains of root explorer with es file explorer ((which works fine btw so its not a problem of partitions i think), re installed the program again but its the same . Flashed the rom from the beginning with a full wipe but its the same
this error happened first when i updated from blackmart alpha to some rootexplorer v.99. I uninstalled that but it left this error
Any idea what is causing that
I'm very curious and would appreciate it
thanks
I found a way to delete the files you suggest using Root Explorer. Go into /data/media/<navigate to the directory that you want to delete files>.. make sure the folder is mounted as r/w and delete the files you want to delete. This is how I bypassed the delete failed issue in Root Explorer...

[Q] How do I allow apps to write to internal SD? (Jelly Bean JRN84D)

Just put on this jelly bean ROM, and when trying to save files from dropbox onto the internal sd it says "error". Audiogalaxy, another app I use, won't allow me to save copies of my songs to the internal SD either. I feel like there's a setting somewhere that's preventing me from save files onto the internal sd, but can't find it. In ICS I was able to find it, pretty sure in Settings -> Storage, but no dice in Jelly Bean.
Any help?
I have you made sure settings>developer options>protect USB storage is not checked. That's where I'd start.
Just fired up Wugs toolkit 1.4 and set full file read/write/execute permissions to all those directories (or at least tried to). Still nothing.
Wanted to update that I was able to rename the DCIM folder to DCIM1 and now it can save camera pics to the phone. I still can't open up a dropbox file due to "storage full or unavailable".
I think you have an issue. You shouldn't have to grant any extra permissions for the apps to write to the SDcard, as there isn't actually an SDcard or partition for it. It's just a symlink to /data/local, a virtual "SDcard".
All my apps work fine writing/reading the "SDcard".
Have you made sure settings>developer options>protect USB storage is not checked. That's where I'd start.

Yessir this is not checked.
EDIT: also noticed that when I take a picture, it doesn't save it to the phone. The pic just disappears after it's taken.
Try fixing permissions and checking the permissions/owner on /sdcard/ and /data/media (where the /sdcard folder is symlinked from). There have been lots of threads about sdcard permissions and Jelly Bean,.

That's probably true, considering the GNex doesn't have a MicroSD slot .
haha yes true.
Wanted to update that I was able to rename the DCIM folder to DCIM1 and now it can save camera pics to the phone. I still can't open up a dropbox file due to "storage full or unavailable".
Solved this issue by doing this:
Reflash stock. Hold off on restoring data/media. There seems to be a problem with it in v1.4.
{{ WugFresh }}
I since put back on the JB rom and have full access with no issues. My issue was when I restored my backup to the phone, the permissions were messed up.
What you probably had was an ownership issue, not permissions.

Latest CWM touch as of today, and also tried it with latest CWM non-touch.
Incidentally I just bumped into a caveat of transferring files to the GN in recovery mode. The permissions are set strangely when you push files over ADB in recovery, and as a result when booted into the OS I was unable to rename any of the pushed files/folders or put new files in. Since the DCIM directory was one that I'd pushed over, new photos weren't saving. And I did not have permission to change permissions.
To see the permissions properly when booted into the OS, you have to go into /data/media rather than /sdcard (same directory but permissions appear differently).
When I went in there and typed ls -n, I found that all the files I had pushed in recovery have UID & GID of 0. All files I had created afterwards had UID & GID of 1023. That explains everything. The owner is root for files that came from ADB in recovery, and media_rw for files created in the OS.
I can use chown, but it looks like the version of chown that comes with busybox does not have -R recursion implemented. Hrm. Aha! In CWM, chown does support -R. And we're off to the races. So from recovery I did:
cd /data/media
chown -R media_rw.media_rw *

So if you bump into this again, try chown in ClockworkMod in ADB shell over USB.

can delete file/ folder in sd card!

Its really bothering me. When flashing a Rom in the aroma I choose this red theme I never used. Well in the vrtheme folder on my SD card (internal storage) there is a bunch of. PNG files that show up in my gallery. If I try to delete from gallery they just come back. And if try to delete from file explorer with root permissions. It says file can not be deleted. This doesn't make sense or am I missing something?
Help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Give this a shot (assuming you are rooted)
find the folder they are in (for arguments' sake let's say they are in /storage/sdcard0/vrtheme/
download terminal emulator app
open it and type the following commands without quotes...
"su"
"rm /storage/sdcard0/vrtheme/*.png"
see if they are gone now.

Thank for trying to help. But if I go to directory all the way down to the PNG file I would have to repeat like 150 times
But anyways when I tried it. I was granted rights for su. Then received the # in terminal.
Then I did rm followed by file path.
It said permissions denied :/
Just wanted to report my findings. If you do a search for aroma file manager on xda. With that you can delete anyfile on SD card if given operation denied with any normal file explorer with root access.
FYI - sdcard0 is not really your SD Card at all. sdcard0 is the internal storage memory. extSdCard is your actual SD Card. And UsbDriveA, UsbDriveB, etc.. are your external drives like USB thumb drive, USB external drive, etc.
If you deleted file/s and then later came back that is because the file/s are being put back with the related app/s that the file/s are related too. Deal with the related app/s in order to stop the deleted file/s from reappearing.
If you can't delete the file/s at all then change the permissions of the file/s you want to delete and/or change the permissions with the folder that holds the file/s to be deleted. Then you can delete the file/s. You can change permissions with a file manager like Root Explorer, though you need to be rooted to change some permissions. Be careful. Deleting the wrong file/s can make your device bricked.

You wouldn't have to delete each .png file separately. Just type exactly what Admiral Sir Manley Power typed. The line command he wrote uses the wild card ( * ) so the command would delete all .png files within that folder at the same time.
Change the permissions of the folder that holds the files. Then try it. Make sure the app related to the files are not still caching the files. Caching the files would make the files to be currently in use. That would make the files not available to be deleted. You can also use another theme app, force kill the app related to the .png files, then delete the files. Then go back to that theme app.

I no SD card should be external. But on our note 2 the directory for internal is labeled SD card. Then vrtheme was in a folder named. " 0" I tried to change permissions and even the owner of file and folder, but it wouldn't let me with root permissions. That's why I was so stumped I had to post on xda.
And its not that the file would get deleted then put back it was I couldn't delete at all. There was no app to my knowledge for vrtheme.

try this instead...
rm -f /storage/sdcard0/vrtheme/*.png"
if that doesn't work... try this....
chmod 777 /storage0/vrtheme
chmod 777 /storage0/vrtheme/*.png
rm -rf /storage/storage0/vrtheme

Question Internal storage '/sdcard' unmounted [SOLVED!]

I am running the latest stock Oxygen OS version (11.2.10.10.LE15AA), rooted with Magisk. Somehow the internal /sdcard directory got unmounted and now I cannot save anything to the user storage because it doesn't exist. I could not even take screenshots because it saves by default to /sdcard/DCIM/Screenshots which doesn't exist now, so I apologize for having to take photos of a screen (the first is from terminal, the other 2 are from ES File Explorer). However, when I run "ls -la /" as superuser in a terminal window it lists sdcard. Does anyone know how to fix this? How do I re-mount /sdcard and get it recognized again?

Try to reboot to recovery and factory reset
Fixed the /sdcard unmounted error!
What finally ended up working was flashing the Oxygen OS zip in TWRP and rebooting without root. I noticed my internal storage was restored along with all the files in it — but then when I rebooted to bootloader to re-root the device with a Magisk-patched boot.img (booting into Android once as temp root with "fastboot boot magisk_patched.img", then running the Magisk app and selecting "direct install" to patch boot.img for permanent root) the /sdcard unmounted error came back! So I disabled all the newer Magisk mods I had installed, rebooted, and I have /sdcard again along with root. Yay! Factory reset was going to be my next attempt if that didn't work though.
