Need help flashing cutom rom - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hey guys so i've had a rooted note 2014 for awhile now and want to get into custom roms. I'm on stock 4.4.2 and i'm trying to flash liquidsmooth but have a couple of questions. So on the installation guide it says
"First time installing LiquidSmooth to your Samsung Samsung Note 10.1 (2014), or coming from another ROM:
- Make sure you're running latest Recovery
- Copy GApps zip, SuperUser zip and Liquid ZIP to your internal SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash Liquid zip from internal SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from internal SDCard
- Reboot
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!"
It seems simple enough but how do I know if i'm running the latest recovery? Also is there any other things I need to do or know before I attempt this?

I actually just went ahead and put 2.8.6.0 on there with odin and flashed your rom and it worked out alright. Do you happen to know what problems people were having with 2.8.5.0? Great ROM btw

Can't install any 4.2.2 roms

I'm with Bell using the E973. Tried installing every 4.2.2 rom here and the same thing happens each time. Black screen after I reboot phone. Is there some sort of procedure aside from wiping data/reset/cache/davlik/system?
Btw, I'm rooted and unlocked. On 4.1.2 right now.

So you're
1.rooted
2.unlocked (with FreeGee??)
3.install recovery
4.download custom rom for E973 not E975
5.reboot into recovery
6.***make nandroid backup***
7.after backup, wipe cache-dalvik-data-system (DO NOT WIPE SDCARD)
8.factory/reset
9.flash downloaded custom rom
10.flash Gapps for correct Android version
And you're done.
Give us feedback :good:

I don't think I unlocked it with freegee. This was a while ago when I unlocked it. I download the E973 roms ONLY. Those instructions I have been following for all the 4.2.2 roms. None of them seem to want to boot after I restart from recovery. Only way I get back to working phone is if I reinstall the 4.1.2 rom I have backed up on my sd.

Hi there,
It's recommended to do a factory reset after installing new version of OS. For CM-11 the base version is KitKat (Android 4.4.x).
To make things little easier, I took a backup of all installed apps (/system/app/ and /data/app folder). I didn't use any app for that matter, but just copied them on my internal SD card under Download folder. This folder won't be cleared during factory reset.
Make sure you have CWM based recovery 6.0.4.4 installed. (Initially I was working with older version of recovery (6.0.3.3) and because cause of that CM-11 could not be installed properly.) I have PhilZ's recovery working pretty good on my E980. You can find it here.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
The official CM-11 build will work on any E-98x phone. But when you install CWM based recovery, make sure you install one which is meant for your phone only.

Successful upgrade from ARHD 19.0 4.1.2 to 20.1

Not allowed to do any posts in the Android Revolution HD (ARHD) forum yet http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925402 so I'll share my experience here.
It seems like people sometimes have various issues after a Note II N7100 upgrade to AHRD rom 4.3 20.0 (or 20.1) , from earlier 4.1.2 versions like 19.0 and after reading all posts of this upgrade of various tips, fixes and install steps, I felt it was time to try the upgrade myself. It turned out to be successful without any issues with root working as well as everything else with a "butter" smooth experience since 2 weeks back..
These are the steps I followed.
- There was some importance regarding a specific bootloader that was recommended to flash first and also a custom recovery.
I was in version AHRD 19.0 on bootloader LJ3 but MJ5 was recommended most often. So MJ5 was flashed with Odin v3.09
- Next a custom recovery was mentioned and it seemed that most people were successful with TWRP 2.6.3.1
So I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.1 with Odin v3.09.
- Then the AHRD 20.1 rom was transferred to EXT SD card on the phone.
- Next, a wipe of data was done in TWRP
- Then the rom AHRD 20.1 rom was flashed after following the AROMA install procedure.
- After successfull boot, all my apps were installed from my Titanium backups.
Good you shared this with people who having trouble... but some may ask if you were able to update the SuperSU... then reboot and see if you still have root?
TWRP or Philz touch recovery (6.1.28) seem to work good (less problems).
Someone else also posted success like this:
1. Flash latest Philz touch recovery (6.1.28).
2. wipe everything (pick option flash new rom).
3. flash ARHD 20.1.
4. Reboot and set up everything like usual.
5. Update supersu and everything else/ restore titanium backup
Good luck to all.

[Q] where to get latest CWM Recovery v6.x?

I'm trying to install a Kit Kat ROM, but I keep getting Status 7 errors. From what I've read, I need to have CWM 6.0.4.x+ in order to flash Kit Kat ROMs. The problem is, I can't find it anywhere! The CWM web site shows 5.8 as the latest version. I searched these forums, but can't find a working link anywhere.
Can someone please tell me where I can download a CWM 6.x recovery?
thanks,

Some people use the blasphemy kernel to flash from… but you need to already be on cm/aosp/aokp based rom for that kernel to boot back to recovery reliably.
I prefer to just flash a 4.3 rom then while still in recovery… pick reboot recovery. Do your wipes… data, cache, dalvik and format system..then flash the 4.4 rom of your choosing.

Wait... so ROMs also contain a recovery? I always thought recoveries were independent from the OS, sort of like the BIOS for a PC.
I will download a 4.3 ROM and give it a shot. Thanks for the quick response!
[update]
Success! I had to flash two 4.3 ROMs, since the first one (ReVolt) only had CWM 6.0.3.3 (Status 7 when I tried flashing Kit Kat). The second one was Dirty Unicorns, which came with 6.0.4.4.
I also had to install the micro Google Apps package. The bigger ones wouldn't fit, for the Epic 4G Touch.
Thanks again, Gil81!

When you flash a rom zip it will come with a kernel… on our device the kernel and recovery are locked together. In other words. We have to flash a new kernel to have a new recovery..most devices have a seperate partition for the recovery. So it makes this device a little bit of a pain. But if you read through some of the stickies and i have a little guide about flashing with mobile odin. You will get the hang of it.
Let me know if you need any other help. Glad your up and running.

Be Warned: Not all ROMs have recoveries. That being said, if going to CM11, I recommend starting with CM10 rom, which does have a recovery that is compatible with CM11 to an extent; flashing CM11 and then booting into the CM11 recovery and flashing CM11 one more time, then you gapps and what have you. This has worked the best for me in the past.

Use Philz Recovery to flash Kitkat ROMs.

Best way to currently install marshmallow after failed attempts

Hi, after trying to use philz recovery to flash a ROM on to my device I got what I think was called a soft brick where I had to download and flash the stock ROM.
My device (GT-N7100) is now not rooted again and back to square one. Any problems I come across occur from using old tutorials with dead links so if someone could recommend a tutorial to install a custom rom like 5.1 I would be very grateful. Thanks
EDIT. I found this guide on youtube http://mytechtube.in/samsung-galaxy-note2-rooting.html + http://mytechtube.in/samsung-galaxy-note2-6-0-1.html . Does it look like it will work?
Flash twrp using Odin, then flash a custom rom via twrp.
Root your phone first. Flash recovery like twrp and install custom rom like Resurrection remix the ROM is stable most of the things works and good as daily driver.

Root is not required to flash TWRP. TWRP can be flashed directly to the phone using Odin.

Should I just use the latest version of TWRP direct from their website https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote2n7100.html ?
I think my phone code name is t03g how can i confirm?
Thanks
EDIT. Just installed TWRP :good: now on to picking a good ROM. will have a look at the ressurection one too.
To install apps that require root should O root it now or do some ROMS root it for me?
Sorry for the amount of questions
The easiest way to install twrp would be to flash the tar version using Odin.

Most custom Roms come prerooted. If the rom is not rooted, you can flash supersu.zip from recovery.
Root can be enabled on cm13 under developer options in settings.

Thanks for the info. I've watched some videos of cm13 and I so far thats what im going with. Will look for a youtube video to help with installing it.
To install, download cm13 to an sad card, wipe cache, wipe system, wipe data, install cm13 zip from ad card, reboot.
Cm13 does not come with Google apps (gapps) so you'll have to decide which version you want.

I didnt realise that before. Could I for example install any of the GAPPS from this link https://devs-lab.com/android-gapps-download.html " full google apps" or pico google apps ?
From whatI gather GAPPS are installed straight after rom install before root though is this the same in cm13?
Flash CM13, flash Gapps, reboot.
I like open gapps frome here: http://opengapps.org/

Perfect Im going to try that in the next hour. I like the look of aroma. For platform would I select ARM and android 6.0?
EDIT. Found the answer it was ARM.
Arm as I believe your phone has a Qualcomm processor.

Yeah was ARM as I just installed CM13. Thank you seriously headig your way.
Hopefully, everything works.
Now that you have twrp on your phone, you can use it to create a backup of everything in your phone, including time efs folder. Save the efs folder in a safe place in case you need to restore it to the phone at a later date.
After making a backup, you can flash other Roms and you can return to cm13 by restoring your backup.
Just getting familiar with it. Thanks for the help.
Do you know if there's settings to turn screen on during during calls because it works with the front sensor and that sensor is broke on my phone?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
You could try disabling the proximity sensor in the phone so the phone screen doesn't blank out during a call.
Got it sorted using an app from the play store.

Hi, phones been running great until yesterday when it started telling me the disk space was nearly full(via es filee xplorer). It then turned off a few times and i turned it on again. The phone would shut off if I tried to do anything like launch the camera app. It now bootloops when i try to turn it on.
I have tried wiping dalvic cache, factory reset, recover from a recovery point i made when i installed the rom and reinstalling the custom rom like I did the first time.
The phone did once go into a boot animation of the old boot screen(02 animation), another time it started the miui boot logo but went back to the normal samsung galaxy note 2 boot loop.
Any suggestions on how i could get it running again? Thanks!
