Hi evryone.
Recently I came across this guide, and it worked fine for me.
So I wrote a tool that basically does the same thing, just make things easier.
This method should work on any LG G3 official firmware (4.x.x / 5.x.x), and on other models too.
Please leave your feedback if it worked for you, and indicate whether you used the graphical user interface or the old script.
And if it's didn't worked, please attach here the log from the window.
Notes
I saw a lot of questions of G3 users about how to install Twrp after the root, so I will explain briefly:
For now, if you are on stock lollipop you can't just flash Twrp via flashify etc like the old days in KitKat, but you can follow this guide over here.
After the root, if you want for some reason (warranty etc) to unroot the phone, all you need to do is a full unroot from the SuperSU settings.
I don't know if this is enough to get OTA updates back, I'm still waiting for somebody else to answer this question. so please don't ask me about this any more because I really don't know the answer.
Devices confirmed working with this method (If your device isn't listed it's most likely still supported)
LG G3 (all variants)
LG G3 Beat
LG G2
LG G2 Mini
LG G Pro 2
LG G Pad
LG F60
LG L90
LG Tribute
LG Spirit
LG Volt
LG G Vista

Hey any chance for a sim unlock tool? Can i use the old one for kk?
Was not able to root using either One Click Root methods. Was able to get root through following the linked guide at the top of the quote.
As for my previous comments in the ZVG OTA update.zip thread, they still stand IN MY CASE. After my last post there I .tot back to ZVE and ADB sideload ZVG. After the fresh install the One Click Root still did not work. Then I restored my apps through LGBackup and was able to get root through the guide.

I replied to your post in the other thread but I will here as well so maybe others see.
When the one click root is looking for the LG serial port you have to put the device in download mode. It will find the G2 and root it. It worked great for me.
Edit: I see in the other thread you replied that even in DL mode it didn't work. Bummer. At least you got it another route.
Is there an autorec for lollipop to install twrp? I've searched the threads and don't see one for ls980

If you are rooted you should be able to use this method (pulled straight from TWRP website). Using Autorec downgrades your boot loader as well, which is something you may not want at the moment.
dd Install Method (Requires Root):
Download the latest image file (.img) from the download link above. Place it in the root of your /sdcard folder and rename it to twrp.img. Run the following commands via adb shell or a terminal emulator app:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery

EDIT: This method doesn't work. I suspect you would also need a bumped stock kernel, but I didn't want to get into it now.
I did not work that program, but I found another tutorial where if I worked , I have rooted!

Any insight into what this root method is doing? It looks like it is using download mode to push the update su binary, but I'm not 100% certain. Is it modifying anything else?

So this root method is confirmed to work on stock ZVG firmware? I am just on stock ZVE firmware currently but didn't want to take the plunge into ZVG unless root was available.

Yes, I've tested it already. It will need to be reapplied anytime you update profile because it will revert APNs back to normal.

Has anyone had success installing TWRP using the method listed in post 11? Running the dd command via adb shell or terminal app? That's what I used on ZVE instead of Autorec which made other changes I didn't want.

I tried it, but it crashed when starting TWRP. It said something about secure boot and then the DemiGod crash handler came up. Fortunately I made a backup of the original recovery partition so I went back to that.

Note: This Root method is no longer supported, most models have been updated to newer software and does not work. If you want this to even have a chance at working, you must have the original software that shipped with the phone 3 years sgo.
This is a great root method with easy to follow instructions that anyone can follow and without all the extra jibber jabber most do not understand. The originator of this root is @giantpune, please give him a Big Thanks!!!
**This Root Method has been confirmed working on the models listed below**
E980 AT&T (Does not work on 10P 01/08/2014 update)
E985 Euro/SFR
E986 Euro/SFR
E988 HK
E988 GCC
E988 India
E988 Starhub Singapore
E989 UK
E989 Israel
1st: Go to http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-E980 and download the drivers, let it install all the way before going to the next step.
2nd: Go to 7-Zip and download the program, it is the best one imo.
3rd: Download the attached root file below
4th: Un-Zip the Root file using 7-Zip to a known location
5th: Make sure in Developer Options you enable USB Debugging in your phones settings
6th: Make sure your phone is in Charge Only mode
7th: Plug your phone into your computer and give it about 3 minutes before going to the next step to ensure your computer can see your device
8th: Open the file and run the CurrentRoot.bat
9th: When it prompts you to go to MTP mode, do so in the same place Charge Only was found. LET IT SIT, 3 MINUTES MINIMUM!!!!! This will insure that your computer has seen your phone as a MTP device, if you rush it, the root will fail!
10th: Now hit any key to continue
11th: Once it is completed and your phone reboots, safely remove hardware to remove your phone.
You can download many free root checker apps from the Play Store or use SuperUser that is included with the root.
If you need the original AT&T TOT file with the update attached please visit

Thanks @giantpune
side note: I am not responsible for your phone, the above process worked flawlessly on my LG Optimus G Pro US Version E980 on 7/12/2013.
How do I know if I have the "Value Pack Upgrade"? I got an OTA update from AT&T/LG a few days ago, which completed successfully but my Android version is still 4.1.2. Is there a baseband version or build number I can compare against to see if I have this "Value Pack Upgrade"?
That was the value pack upgrade sir ?
I followed these directions exactly and it worked perfectly! I installed Root Explorer and it was successfully given superuser privileges.
Note to others: on step 10, the phone will reboot and the error message you may see on your phone (that a process stopped unexpectedly) is normal. I waited until the phone fully rebooted and finished loading everything before disconnecting my phone.
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: APQ8064/MDM9x15M
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build number: JZO54K
Software version: E98010k
Awesome, I added a note about waiting for the phone to reboot. I did not see the message you got but I may have missed it looking at my daughter dance last night to Xbox.
Enjoy sir
Thank you for the above instructions. Zero issues.
Waiting the 3 minutes made all the difference.
This is the way to go to root! Thank you again!

I also stated that this was not my root from the beginning. The others posted within this thread did not work for me, this was flawless and also the original on this forum had instructions that were not basic enough and left out stuff for noobs.

Well, the rooting police are after me..... lol
Tried to apply the update while my E980 was rooted. No go, got the 0x13e error. Research says that's probably because device is rooted.
So I unroot and try again a couple days later. Same error displays. Device restarts and a new error displays. Something like "Device is suspected of being rooted and rooted devices will not be updated".
So I'm hiding out until the heat is off.
In the meantime, any thoughts.

i dont think you can brick your phone using one click methods, since they root via exploits and not by flashing.. also a536's source code is opensource, so maybe if someone can make a ROM from that it'd be much appreciated o.o

I know there aren't a ton of us At&t Note 8 Variant users out there...but the few of us that are have received an update to Kit Kat finally...
So now, I'm starting this simple question thread: - HOW CAN WE ROOT?
Just to keep track of what is tried and what doesn't work for the new update version-until we have success!
Baseband version: I467UCUBNI2
So, what have you tried and what were the results? Has anyone succeeded?
I've tried: saferoot, towelroot, kingo - none have worked.
What have you tried?

I've also tried pulling the ROM off the 0 hone and have been unsuccessful.

Thus far nothing. I've tried quite a bit and have not found anything. This is a new OTA so it will take time.

Can you get the 4.4.2 kernel for your device as an Odin flashable image? If so, there might be a way.

I downloaded the update but did not install it. I put the file on my dropbox. Its a cfg file 800mb or so in size. Can anyone do anything with that so we can get root? Let me know and Ill send a link.

Go ahead and send me the link.
Following a thread in the Galaxy S5 forums I was able to root an S5 with Towelroot by flashing a signed (important if you don't want to trip the KNOX flag) kernel from an older firmware release, do the root, and then re-flash the signed kernel for the 4.4.2 version. I can't guaranty it work on your device, and I have the GT-N5100, but if we can extract the signed kernel from your image the pieces should be available to try it.

Yea, I looked at it.
You can too by using 7zip to "open archive".
Here's the root directory of the 2400258.cfg file you linked:

There is no signed "boot.img" file that could be flashed with Odin or Heimdall. When I checked the updater script a patch method is used to updated the previous kernel:
Code:
ui_print("Patching boot image...");
apply_patch("EMMC:/dev/block/mmcblk0p9:5150976:8293cf49006c35a33647cba0f6153bc8320ae5de:6080784:eaee84c0a938f101931ca0b235cbbee112c26499",
"-", eaee84c0a938f101931ca0b235cbbee112c26499, 6080784,
8293cf49006c35a33647cba0f6153bc8320ae5de, package_extract_file("patch/boot.img.p"));
Without a complete 4.4.2 version of a signed boot.img file you wouldn't be able to return to the original kernel after rooting. I wouldn't recommend the method I mentioned previously until that's available.
ramjet73
Thanks for taking a look. Will search for the correct boot.img file. Nothing on sammobile yet

I'll leave that up to @godzulu since it's his IMG file but just want to make sure you know that you need to be 100% stock on the previous build to use that file to update to 4.4.2.

Thanks!
I just started looking for information on viable rooting methods for the i467 after the 4.4.2 update and am a little disapointed with the news i found on this post. I had hoped to find a ez method to remedy a few issues such as the ext SD storage problem.
Thanks to OP and all here working to fix the problem!! Off to research more & hopefully be able to bring something helpful back.
We waited for a LONG time to recieve ANY updates so hopefully we wont be waiting long to get root back.

this is from thread on how to root i467 on 4.1.2 Stock firmware. I'm not on att too and it worked for me.
Triped KNOX counter
Im not shure this will help at all but I found the error file that my tablet made after the update faild since I acedently triped the Warrenty counter in KNOX. Its from the SGH-I467 I also have the OTA file saved its 813mb. My programing skills are limited.
Mainly posting this here for any devs that want it.
I have removed the check for stock recovery as well as added a build fingerprint check for TWRP to allow this update to take without Stock recovery.
This is the update.zip that T-Mobile pushed out starting today (10/05/15). If you are not on D85120E stock (might work with root, I have not checked) do not flash this as it should fail but it's your choice to risk it.

So, how long should it take to boot after flashing this? My phone is stuck on the white T-Mobile boot screen. I think its been sitting there for at least 15 minutes.
EDIT: I gave up waiting. I reflashed the stock rom over this and now I'm waiting though the optimizing process. Why didn't I make a backup first??
EDIT2: I redownloaded it, made a backup and tried to flash it again. This time we're good. Optimizing apps as we speak.
Does anybody know if this fixes the "Settings has stopped" error when going to the tethering menu in Settings?
So I need some clarification please and have a couple of questions. I have Tmo G3 (D851) running stock 20e, but it is rooted. I also have TWRP. Can I just flash this update.zip using TWRP and all will be fine or not? I of course will do a full backup before I start, but wonder about data. Has anyone learned whether this works on rooted devices yet? I think I am already Stagefright protected because I run Textra for SMS and MMS (I do NOT run stock messaging), but should I upgrade to this? I look forward to some expert opinions. Thanks to all.

I had unrooted (through supersu script) in order to setup Android pay. I would recommend you do the same, simply because this has the root script at the end of it anyhow...
So, unroot (setup Android Pay if you care to), flash, reroot...move on with life :good:

No wipes necessary ('dirty flash'). Data stays intact. It will optimize all your apps on initial boot though.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will do a full TWRP backup and move forward. Thanks again
Running rooted stock 5.0.1 20E. I've disabled supersu and booted back into TWRP to flash and I'm getting this error when I try to flash the zip:
"Package expects build fingerprint of lge/g3_tmo_us/g3:5.0.1/LRX21Y/151451134d07b:user/release-keys or lge/g3_tmo_us/g3:5.0.1/LRX21Y/15227151285fc:user/release-keys; this device has LG/omni-d851/d851:4.4.4/KTU84P/2:eng/test-keys."
Not familiar enough with the file system to know exactly what that is, but I'm guessing some file on my device is reporting I'm still on 4.4.4? Could that be a kernel issue? I did at one point have a custom kernel, but I went back to stock after that and re-rooted? Just hoping to avoid a full wipe and redo...
Guys,
Am I the only person who has a 10.1? I have a stock rooted, factory SIM unlocked V930.
I love the tablet, and am really surprised. I have scoured the internet for any bootloader unlock/custom recovery interest or dev interest in general and there's nothing. Is anyone else out there with any info?
Thanks guys peace

I first installed Titanium backup after rooting wit KingoRoot. Not to be mistakes for Kingroot!. After I froze the front-end for Kingoroot using TiBU, and installed SuperSU, I then made SuperSU a system app again through TiBU. Next step was to uninstall the Kinguser app in Its entirety. Finally, I rebooted and started Super SU, updated binaries and once again rebooted. After that SuperSU was the default and only Superuser app. I was worried and skeptical at first but it was flawlessly perfect and performed exactalr as it should have. I hope that helps.

I've also scoured the internet and can't find much on it as well.
The only thing that confuses me is the IR BLASTER doesn't seem to be turned on via the software.

Hello, I used Kingroot to try a long time, have not been successful, today, I found that China's 360root is very good tool. Incredibly successful. I feel very happy. Although there is no superusu tool, but now it has the highest authority, I am still very happy.

Can you put me in the direction of the V935 image that you mention? I've bricked my V930 by using the wrong version of Kingroot (don't use the new version 5) and there doesn't seem to be any V930 images anywhere on this planet. Right now I'd settle for anything that will give my V930 some wheels again. A V935 image would do the job just fine. Many thanks.
