I've got a Tab S 10.5 LTE a few weeks ago, and I've been quite happy with the screen and everything. But there's this one problem where the battery gets drained to quickly; while it charges so slowly. While web surfing, the battery percentage goes down by about 1% every 2 minutes, which gets me about 30% down in an hour. This is completely different from the iPad Mini I'm having. It's probably because of the big screen it has.
Is this normal? Is there like a ROM or kernel or anything that can fix this?
Hi.
Install a battery monitor, GSam battery monitor is the one i use and does not affect your battery, it gives me a estimate of 16hrs of use on my 10.5" per full charge.
Install the free version of watchdog and set it in the setting to monitor all processes, then you can see which apps are using your battery the most, and then you can kill or remove the ones that are causing you problems.
Make sure to disable wifi, blue-tooth, gps and app syncing and alarms are disabled, as these all use power, or keep your tablet from sleeping when you are not using them.
EDIT: Also get an app that can monitor you tablets wakelocks, which means it shows any apps that keep waking your tablet up, instead of letting it go into a low power state while you are not using it.

Not sure which model of the 10.5 you have but if it is compatible, try the SkyHigh kernel. I switched to this a while back and can tell you the battery life is simply amazing. I can go now almost a week in standby mode without needing to charge it. When I do use it I can get up to about 6-8 Hrs of actual screen time on recorded. Depends on whether I am gaming or simply browsing the web. I am also running the IronRom custom rom, which is pretty debloated and comes with it's own kernel, but SkyHigh definitely gives better battery life without tweaking. I just took stock values and it's great. Highly recommend you try it.
Forgot to mention, I am still running KitKat. SkyHigh kernel is not available for Lollipop, yet.
It took me a while to figure this out but here is what I did.
1. Disabled WiFi when the screen goes off
2. Enabled the power saving option: disable background data
3. Screen timeout to 15 seconds
4. Enabled developer options and enabled the option to kill tasks as soon as I leaves them
5. Enabled the option: no background tasks
I am now on day 2 with 68% battery remaining. Previously the battery died in a day even without the screen being turned on.
No apps, no hacks, just simple tweaks
Try the Free Version of Juice Defender for a week, a lot of people swear by it.
You can only use the default profile in the free version, if you like it, then buy the pro version.

Ok, with all that said, I've tried most of them already. I guess it can't be helped as the screen's really big. But is there anyway to speed up charging?
Using Battery Monitor Widget and Galaxy Charging Current Free, the charge is only taking up around 1400-1500mA, which is 0.5 less than that stated on the adapter (2A).
My 10.5" charges at around 1800ma with the stock charger and cable, according to my "usb charge meter" see link, but only up to 80% which is normal for li-ion battery`s and then slow charge for the renaming 20%

Edit: using the GSam app and Samsung Charging Current app, I found out that it's charging at only 1100mA!!!
My 10.5" T800 has a battery life of around 16hrs according to GSam , I uses my tablet at mostly at night, so my runtime figures are with a low brightness level.
Please post your tablet model number when you give runtime figures, add it to your signature in your xda settings.
The 10.5" has an 7900mah battery, The 8.4" has an 4900mah battery.
Also the LTE models will have lower runtime as the cell/phone transmitter uses some power.

Is it possible to disable the cellphone transmitter? I don't use the phone at all.
Just activate airplane mode from the drop-down list, I use that on my GalaxyS3 that i only use for playing music, you can still turn wifi off and on in airplane mode, at least on my S3

hi guys,
sorry i'm noob and this is second time im posting on xda forum. I recently bought a Galaxy Nexus Made in korea by samsung. It's currently running on 4.3 latest update phone doesn't lagg or nothing happend like crashes etc but please see below major problems im facing.
Phone getting hotter from back side where camera is installed
0 to 100% it take 5-7 hours to charge ( I tried both wall and USB)
I charged the phone to 100% in night and i didn't use the phone night in morning when i check the phone the batter was at only 12% left. the phone eat all the battery in 7 hours the most battery was used by phone idle 57% and stand by 33% & i didn't put any sim card in the phone whole night and automatic wifi was on which was only 17% battery.
again i charged the phone to 100% close the automatic wifi and insert a sim card
The result is like
After 3 hours 57 mins battery was at 52%
Screen take 49% total screen on time 16m 1s
Phone Idle 22% 3h 41m 29s
cell stand by 10% 3h 54m 55s
Android system 5% (CPU TOTAL 1m 47s *** CPU foreground 33s *** Keep awake 1m 19s)
I don't know what was the battery time before 4.3 update becuz when i buy this set it came with 4.3 and i bought this 3 days ago. Is this a battery problem or the phone problem or its the android ???? any type of help is welcome
Thanks in advance
The Galaxy Nexus is known for its not so great battery. It also just depends on how you use it. If you are playing games, watching videos, etc. it will drain fast. If you just check a few things here and there, it will last longer. That's common sense. But yes, compared to other phones, the Galaxy Nexus sucks with battery. Theres not much you can really do software wise. The best thing you can do is get a bigger battery or a spare battery. I have a charger pretty much wherever I am so battery isnt an issue for me. But if you are someone who is on the move all day, I would suggest a spare or an extended battery.
EDIT: Actually, looking at your screen time, you are getting a bit above average on phone idle. Right now, my phone idle is at 8%

Yes i read that and i planned to get extended battery but the cell eating the battery while screen is off. I'm just confused about the OS 4.3 i read alot about that after updating to 4.3 nexus 7 user experiencing of slow charging and battery draining but as you seen in attached pic the phone eating battery without any usage the total on screen time is 6 min and in 3hrs 57 min 48% battery gone ?? so in your opinion what is the prob is it OS, phone or the battery ?

Well I see in your screenshots that it looks like you don't have any cell service. What could be happening is that your phone is constantly searching for a connection, which could eat up a lot of battery.
best bet

youre best bet if rooted and unlocked is to install a custon kernel and underclock it to about 1000 mhz ... install dark themed apps or theme chooser theme also us a black wallpaper .. turn off 4g . ... turn off nfc when not in use .. make sure youre using the oem charger to charge the battery .. use wifi whenever possible .. also turn off anything like hotword detection that is constantly listening

The mobile service was on but data service was disable i received 2 calls and some texts msgs 2 but they are not long or didn't took the battery. All syncs were off and location to. But the battery is going down very badly. Please see new attached files of last night. The cell was at 87% battery and in the morning the battery was dead.
Try using something like Better Battery Stats or GSAM and see what they say is draining your battery.
With the current info given, I would lean toward thinking it is a hardware issue. Perhaps your battery doesn't properly hold a charge anymore.

Few hours ago i left for office the cell was on 14% charging and turn-off the cell and put it in pocket. After 1 hour when i reach to office i was trying to turn on the cell but the battery was dead and then i put it on charging and it start from 6% and turned on. I think the battery is not holding charging . The battery is in made in Korea and have NFC details on it. I think its the original battery but its not use able any more. i will try above mentioned widgets before changing the battery.

didn't use the phone and it ate all battery. Any guesses what's wrong with the phone???

4g/3g are off and i ticked use only 2G network. Facebook app is deleted brightness is set to auto GPS every thing is off but mobile consuming battery without any usage.... im just confuse about that its the hardware prob or i have to flash some other rom?
bump! any 1 with solution ?
U really need to get better battery stats. It will tell u specifically what wake locks r causing the problem. Idk if using only 2g is a good idea, u may be burning battery with apps constantly searching for a data connection. Can u access wifi? That takes up less battery than data (3g or 4g). U may want to buy a new battery, they aren't that expensive. U can get one on amazon for like $15. If that doesn't work, I'd try flashing a different rom, maybe even a custom kernel.
I am still running 4.1.2 because I like it better than the newer versions and my battery life isn't bad. I usually get close to 2.5hrs of screen on time. More than a day of standby. Obviously, if I make a lot of calls I will get less battery life. I'm running eclipse rom with leankernel.

Today i flashed Cyanogen mode 10.1.3. i didnt flashed any google apps just to check what eat battery. When i flashed the ROM the battery was at 36%. I used the mobile for almost 1 hour and on screen time was 54min 37sec and battery left 16%. The cell eat total 20% battery in 1 hour continues on without mobile data network and 2G was on. Wifi GPS every thing was off and brightness was set to auto. At 16% battery i stop using mobile and after 30 mins i check mobile it eat 6% battery in 30 min without any usage. then i truns off the phone and after 30 mins i tried to turn on the cell the battery was dead. then i plugged in the charger and i turn the cell on. The battery charge start from 10% but instead of charging i start loosing battery. then i charged for almost 1 hour on 0% battery and took 5 hours to fully charged. My cell phone drain all battery over night under the usage of phone idle 73%. I'm just confuse about that its the battery issue or its cell phone problem. and my phone getting very hot from back left side. I just need a good developer advise if this is hardware issue then i'm gonna replace the cell phone and if its the battery issue and hardware is ok then i will get a new battery and continue using and 1 more thing my phone get little hot even its turned off from back left side and sim jacket side.
Bump! any suggestion ?
I doubt a developer can answer that question. Could be phone, could be battery. I would try a, new battery just cuz it's cheaper than a new phone. Maybe go back to stock and see if that helps. If not, call Verizon and complain, they may send u a refurbished unit.

i noticed this on my tab 8.4LTE too, the battery simply drains away, almost close to rendering the tablet useless as I use this as my primary phone. tried playing online games and 30 mins later, it ate 40% of the battery (no unusual warm ups) i had this tab for almost a week now and it's still the same. i'm getting worried that i have battery issues

I was getting worried as well. Every time I've used it for anything other than movies my battery percentage has dropped like an aerodynamic rock. Browsing, games, magazines, etc. Movies (assuming because of the typically large amount of black pixels) look fantastic and the battery does quite with them, but for everyday consumption it left me concerned.
An hour ago I asked Amazon for an exchange which they did no questions asked. Perhaps round 2 will fare better. If not, I'll shed a tear as I give up this amazing display for another device altogether.

Yes. Lte version as well. I noticed that when he do wifi file transfers and other stuffs. Batt will drain as well.
I want a heads on comparison with his tab but it's hard since we use the tab differently. This is my primary phone while his is for browsing only. Tomorrow. I'll try to transfer s huge file via wifi and see if we'll have the similar percentage of battery drain. I already did the calibration as advised from another thread and it seems to work. A few more charge cycle might do the trick.

Same for me.... It takes forever to fully charge it (10,5 in)
I use a 10.5 LTE and it takes about 5 hours to fully charge. I recommend to switch it off while charging because when it's on you loose about 500mAh (also if the screen is off) and with a 2Ah charger if the battery sees (optimistically) 1.5Ah it takes 5h 20' plus the time required by the slow charge when it reaches 85-90%, so more than 6h.
Anyway I charge it every time I can when it goes under 50%, it's a big battery and needs a special care. Nothing to say about batterylife, excellent.
Most tablets/phones fast charge to 80% and then slow down for the last 20% , so if you don't need a full charge just grab it after it goes past 80% , your battery will live longer as well, as the closer you charge to 100% the more damage is done to your battery, it`s very small but it adds up.
Have a read of the link below, if you want to make the battery in your tablet live longer, if you have the money to easily replace it then don't worry, charge away

is it just me or is the kitkat ROM really sucks----battery pretty well?
I also notice that the CPU usage does not drop to 20 percent idle but when I used other ROM (JB based) it becomes 5 percent.
RAM usage is good but I think it hogs the CPU. I used cpuz on measuring the cpu usage

Where can I get the JB rom for OGP?
For me, Android was best at JB and went backwards with KK.
Yes, I've noticed absolutely horrible battery life with KK. KK just feels like it is several different parts all just thrown together.
The only reason I think is that theoretically JB uses more battery is that the system uses more voltage than the kitkat. however, what's less voltage use if the CPU is always busy and wakeups are just everywhere.
Hi guys, maybe you could post in some battery stats so we could know more about whats draining your battery in particular and suggest some fixes. I've actually experienced the opposite with kitkat-battery life for me improved. There was even an instance that I got the phone to last 30 hours, with 5 hours, 48 mins. screen. On another instance I got 15 hours life and 5 hours 25 mins screen on. I just lost the screenshots as I had to reflash stock when i was doing some G3 mods., but nevertheless i could post some new ones.
I value batter life was well and i'm curious to see how yours could be improved too..

What a battery life. 15 hours screen time?
how can we accurately measure? because I only use CPU-Z and installed DS battery saver to save power. right now it only used 2% of my battery during the night. (from 1:45 - 5:50am)
I see. can you tell me what app should I use to determine CPU usage of each app/service?

No, my battery lasted 15 hours, and my screen-on time (total time i spent using the phone) was 5+ hours coz i basically used my phone then for gaming the whole day I suggest you download gsam battery monitor app (it also has a temperature_bat. Usage graph), as well as wakelock detector. Another alternative would be better battery stats. What you would need to observe would be the apps and wakelocks draining your battery both when you are using your phone, and also when its idle.
I also notice that battery capacity is 2A in which it should be 3.140A right?
this shows on kitKat but on jellybean, it's 3.140A again.
is there something wrong with the detection of battery capacity?

What happened was that in kitkat, the permisssions required to be able to access battery stat files changed. Thus, apps w/c could freely access the batter stats in JB cannot gain complete access in Kitkat. This is the case for some battery monitor apps w/c now have lesser accuracy in reporting battery. No worries though, as there are means to bypass this problem. If you have xposed you could install a module for this. Also, some apps like gsam battery monitor come with a separate root companion app. Once you install those batter stats will be accurate.
Here's a screenshot of my battery stats for today..might not be 5+ hrs of screen on as i did a lot of rebooting today (themed with g3 tweaksbox). Nevertheless, this is just to show that kitkat has the potential to provide good battery life. Also enclosed is a screenshot of one of the battery apps i use, gsam.
Hey everybody! I have some findings I absolutely must share so you can benefit as well.
I've been doing some tinkering and I've find a way to significantly increase battery life on the OGP.
First thing you'll want to do is put your phone into airplane mode.
Second, turn your screen brightness down as low as it will go. I mean, all of the way down.
Third, don't play any games on your phone.
Try those three tweaks and see what kind of battery improvement you get.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Just so you know, first my cell radio and wifi were both on the whole time. Second, i was on auto brightness the whole time. Third, i played clash of clans as you see in there.
If you have not done this already, adjust your cpu to save your battery juice. Set the cpu governor to powersaver or interactive mode if you just using the phone to send msg and make calls. I let my phone run on msm-dvcs and when I'm not plug in. Check out ROM toolbox if you're rooted. Seriously folks, instead of complaint about how much the roms suck the juice, try these different ways to see they make any difference for you.

I found a way to make my phone last a long time. I just turn my phone off and don't use it. I wish I would have though of this sooner.

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Lollipop. I've noticed I have been having fairly poor battery life over the last few days with Android System taking up the most usage. I purchased a spare battery for my Note 4 yesterday and I have been using the new battery with my phone. My android system usage is significantly lower with the new battery. Does this mean the older battery is defective? Or is it something else with the phone? Has anyone experience the same circumstances?
And yes, I have a SD card installed and I have factory reset my phone and wipe the cache after I installed Lollipop.

If I were you, I'd use the new battery a few days before jumping to conclusions. The Android System usage may start up again. Knock on wood that it doesn't.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it won't start up again. I just feel it's weird because a new battery shouldn't affect what is using the battery but rather how long the battery lasts. Isn't that right?

I think so. I mean, the only thing I could think of that might reduce ASystem with a new battery would be if the new battery didn't have NFC. Then MAYBE ASystem will go down just because the system wouldn't be detecting the NFC chip. But even then, I wouldn't expect a huge drop in %usage.
If the old battery was defective, I also wouldn't expect ASystem to run high. If the CPU were bad though, then it definitely would because the cpu may not enter deep sleep, so the phone is always technically on. (I had the happen with my old phone. Had to get it warranty replaced).
Just keep an eye on it for a few days to see if things continue to stay good.
Btw, what battery? OEM? Third party? Large capacity (like a 6400mAh battery)?

The new battery is just OEM. and thanks for your input.
So...with the new battery about 10 hours of run time and 4.5 hours of screen time (mostly YouTube). I am at 8% battery life? Is this normal?
Also here's my setup
- Bluetooth off.
- Location On - Power Saving Mode
- WiFi on and connected, look for WiFi network is On. Always connected to WiFI is on.
- YouTube @ 15% of Battery and Screen / Android System both taking up 14%.
- Screen Brightness on Auto
Is this normal or should I be getting battery life out of my phone?

I think many people report 4.5-5 hours of constant screen on time, so I think your getting normal battery life.
I usually get about 1-2 hrs screen on time, but my phone is in standby for tge rest of the time. I usually then get a day and a half of battery life (or 2 days).

My s20 Exynos is draining 1 percentage battery every 3 minutes when screen is on. Location , bluetooth, aod and all are off including Bixby. I'm using single sim and signal is very good. Using wifi for data. Can't understand what is causing battery drain.
Is my battery fault? I purchased just 2 weeks ago and it's really frustrating me.
Thanks a lot for your list. I'm going to do factory reset and check how it improves. Its a big pain moving all files to pc and copying back. I'll update my status in some days sure. My sot is very bad now, getting 3 hours only

For the moment it's normal let the phone learn your habits and your usage do the update and do 2 or 3 full cycle charge (20 to 100%) after that it will be good if not you can ask a replacement because you have a damaged product

It has completed learning habits already. When I put full charge it shows 1 day 2 hours left but it is consuming 15% when screen is on and doing web browsing with wifi.

Check for an OTA Update, some Exynos users are reporting lower battery drain after the latest update.
Its up to date. Yesterday I received wireless dex one ui 2.5 update. Battery drain is still worst. I have cleared cache also. Anybody help me to solve this please?

I had similar issue on my S 20 Ultra but even worse. After update to One UI 2.5 I had huge battery drain, overheating, can not even reach 120hz and had lags every 10 secconds no matter what I was doing.
I tried to: Wipe cache did not help, new function apps optimizer did not help, restart did not help.
I found that new "design" Edge panel ate approx 8% of battery over the night so I disabled it ,restarted my phone and everything went back to normal.
I never had such a problems with any phone in the past. This is embarrassing!
Hope this will work for you too!
May I know how did you know edge panel took 8%?
Because battery care does not show system apps power consumption. Accubattery and gsm battery also did not show system apps power consumption.
I struck on finding which one is causing this huge power consumption.

settings -> device care -> battery -> battery usage-> edge screen
edge panel is a part of edge screen "app" which I can normaly see in the list.
I've checked it. It shows only 1% was used for edge screen. Samsung has hidden the feature of showing system usage like screen , wifi, cell radio signals etc.
Why the hell they did this. If it is available we can easily find which one is causing issue
Any ideas?
Try running med power saving as a test, see what your drain is then.
What is showing as your biggest battery drainer? You can try grabbing galaxy labs and seeing what's going on via battery tracker. You can find galaxy labs in the galaxy store, if it's not there then someone posted the apks in the apps forum as it's only available in some regions. . It gives you a little more granular visibility in batt usage.
check out gsam battery monitor from google play store. You will need to enable permissions to allow it to collect enhanced stats. This is done via ADB ( Android Debug Bridge), which is quite a simple process. The app walks you through enabling it step by step. This may help to identify what is going on. I can't remember how much detail it gives on system processes. But it is free, so worth a try
Newest update has also tanked my battery. Have a S20 snapdragon.
welcome to the world of exynos
see my post #311 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/review/screen-time-t4010447/page32 it may assist with some options to tweak to help with your drain. I got the new update a few days ago and my battery use is still fine, around 3% drain overnight for 8 hours.
Battery and Lag
I have the S20+ and when the new software BTH5 was installed...it was a nightmare ...huge drain and lag was terrible...I wiped cache no difference then factory reset which I hate doing due to the reinstall........however it is absolutely perfect having done that. hope that helps
Install Better battery stats from plays store, give it all the required permissions, do a full cycle and check what is draining your battery there. It's a very good app, perfect for troubleshooting battery problems.

There is no app causing battery drain because I have put all apps in deep sleep mode. Accubattery and Samsung labs battery tracker showing apps power consumption only and not hardware power consumption.
I've charged for 92% and it went to 82% in half an hour of sot and 2 hours of screen off.
This is very annoying me to find out where is the problem
No issue here. Do a factory reset may help
