Hello ppl, i recently got a desire for uhh, 100 bucks
and now i see that this device has lot of ROMs.
(i'm now doing the roots and installing the recoverys)
I was looking for something simple, because this is for my brother and he is not such a geek, i just want a rom that does not have freezes or reboots, that works smooth
Does the ICS ROMs already stable or i should go for GB?
thanks ppl!
CM7 no questions asked.
Make sure to S-OFF and flash cm7 hboot to get the most space for apps
used CM7 a long time, but the ROM i used the longest is InsertCoin v1.1.4 on Stock HBOOT.
It's fast and stable, just had one issue in over 6 months which could be resolved by flashing a kernel without two way call recording.
Cyanogenmod, or Oxygen which is more barebones. Or stock Sense ROMs should be stable also. Personally I dont care for sense that much.
ICS is not stable, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out.
Stick to GB, I would recommend any of Roalex's roms, they're fantastic, even his ICS rom, which from my experience is the Best ICS rom on the desire at the moment.
Thank you everybody, now i gonna try your suggestions!
I really also liked Roalex's updated Oxygen, but it has one problem, if you move an app to sd, you can't move it back to the phone. This is using the standard apps to sd function of android. Roalexe's Cyanogen based GB rom has this issue also. I also had to restore apn's from a backup to get 3g working on the CM version. So they might not be as rock solid as original cm or oxygen.
I'm used MildWild V-4.0 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 for about 2 to 3 months, I didnt faced single issue. This was my best ROM I have used..
Hi, I would tend to say Mildwild based on oxygen too. It is very stable. Mildwild CM is also nice but last version has bugs.
First, I would say, that it's ur choice.
Everybody says Oxygen is quiet good, but in my opinion, it's very ugly.
So CM will be nice, too. But u have to choose by ur self which rom is better 4 u.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.7) version of MIUI_Au (v. 2.1.13, which you will have to google as newcomers are stupidly barred from posting outside links) is also very stable, fast, and quite aesthetically pleasing, so you might want to give it a go.
Dont want to seem like a broken record but this is my post on another thread.
I know it's still in beta but Im using ICS .10.1 by Sandvold, very stable, no issues with the mass of apps I have installed and battery is great, better than stock I find. The ROM is fast and responsive again better than stock. Tried a few GB roms and sense roms but this is the best so far.
For various reasons I have gone back to these ICS roms, battery life, BSOD's and FC's. I've tried Runny roms and MUIU though still have serious issues on my phone. Running the current rom I could pretty much not update or change it and would be happy with it. Very stable, smooth and no BSOD's since latest update. Worth considering IMO.
Insetcoin is great, I'm on that ROM very long and its smooth and stable.
People claiming ICS ROM's at the moment are the most stable are seriously brain damaged..
3 biggest issues with all of them = broken video recording, no usb tethering, sluggish (unless you use only few apps and dont need a dalvik 2 ext scripts)
Also the "Full HWA" is still a hack.
I'm not saying they are bad, but they cannot be considered as "most stable" by any means.
The most stable ROM's by now, are the AOSP ones based on Gingerbread. (CM7, Oxygen etc.)
Ok maybe they are not "eye candy" out of the box, but if you spend some time to theme it then you'll be surprised, and you actually dont need Sense or ICS ROM's to achieve it.
Some examples. http://mycolorscreen.com/popular/
Hi,
I've been using mildwild V4.0 oxygen since it is out and I'm very pleased with it.
It is stable and fast. Sometimes I miss some sense functions like rolling numbers when setting the alarm clock. But when i use a sense rom, i realize how fast mildwild really is
The best is to try some Roms. Everybody has his own preferences.
I suggest mildwild v4.0 oxygen too
Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition or MildWild CM 4.8
If you want ICS, BCM 3.7U0 but of course it's not the most stable ROM but I'm telling you this ROM is great although it says your sd-ext must be less than 1.5Gb but I'm using it with 2Gb sd-ext 4 on a class 4, 16 Gb sd card with no problem at all. Trust me on these if not the most stable only because of the usb tethering and 15fps video recording, this ROM is the most performance sucker I ever had my benchmark on quadrant advance is 1708 with this ROM and I didn't even overclock my cpu but on a stable gb ROM my benchmark was 998 with the same app.let me point out that I have 132 apps installed on the ICS but I only had 87 apps on the gb ROM.
And with mods I have made it too look like this:
I might be a new XDA-Developers user but it doesn't mean that I'm new to using its stuff, it only means that I have been dumb enough to just use and never comment!!
Hope I could Help

i ussed RSK 7.4.3 is pretty stable and guick...
MildWild V4, based on Oxygen
I don't quite understand why 3D graphics in custom rom is better? I mean, it is better obviously... But what did the developers do, to make it better. Because i'm trying to make myself a ROM, so i was thinking on how to make it better like the custom ROMs. Any suggestions or help?
Been having a lot of trouble. Being new to android and this forum. Its hard to find a stable release. Messed my phone up bad. Did a RUU and its better, but not much. So many outdated and broken files. How's a guy to figure it out, when he cant even ask whats the best ROM? And Im not asking for the best, just a good Kernel to run with stock HOV, Just to unlock Overclocking and tweaks. I have Titanium 7.5 HF. Which other good sense ones are there? Any ones that are just stock with unlocked OC? I basically gave up on trying these roms. I was wanting to try Suprimo v30 but I cant get it to boot. Tried all the Kiss/Sense kernels I could find. And no ones willing to tell me exactly what version to use. So stock it is.
Thanks.
For sense based roms use titanium kiss kernel.... The one u r using now is ont supported... I mean the titanium 7.5.... &myonev rc 9.5 is cool in ny opinion... U can try it... For stable aosp rom, go for cm10 or pa 2.99 with hellboy kernel....
Hey ppl ! My friend has this phone ! And I just wanted to help him get the latest android version ! So what's the most stable ROM out here ? I don't want to create a partition in my SD card for the ROM to work ! Or if the ROM is real good I don't mind creating a ext4 partition

You'll probably want to create an ext-4 partition because of the limited internal memory. You won't be able to install many apps if you don't.
Try VJ's CM10.1

You don't want to create a partition but you don't mind creating a partition?!?
Anyways, best ROM threads are not allowed on xda. Everyones idea of "best ROM" is different, so you should try a few out and see which one suits your needs. With that being said pretty much all of the aosp gingerbread ROMs are quite stable. My personal favourites are milwilds.
@Chromium I never used best here ! I asked for a stable and usable ROM ! And if I do create a partition which ROM performs well ! ?
The links to the ROM would be appreciated !

Mildwild 9.5
I use An-Droid for year and a half or so, and I'm always nitpicking about stability and I'll be using it for two moar days
If it is a favor u r doing for him, avoid Jellybean.
Tell you what, Evervolv's ROMs are the most stable and fastest. Slim them down, use jmcclue's smaller system-size hboot, and you are awesome
Im liking MildWild 5.0 for smooth and stable everyday use.

Suernova 2.4.0.1 is the one, and it also provides a memory extension, throuhg flashing data2sd.
MildWild MW 14 (Redux), super smooth, fully woking camera and userfriendly aps2sd implementation.
I am also using MildWild 14, it's stable, fast and smooth. Totally recommend it!
Mildwild rom are the more usable with android 2.x if you want a nice and simple rom with the ability to use a lot of apps and almost bug free.
For android 4.x ROM I think it's best to wait the evervolv team (aka Nikez) with kitkat which seems to be the fastest rom with all the latest improvements.
For the stability Mildwild rom rocks. But its gb. So you can not install some apps or you can not use the latest version (gmail etc.)
If you wanna 4.x rom on htc desire, for now 4.0.4 ics roms are is the best solution i think.
Give a try marius.a's qissme port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095658
or directly the qissme rom (without a2sd, intext support but u can use link2sd from market) http://desirecustomrom.blogspot.com/2013/04/qiss-me-rom-404rc-21005.html
Roms stock launchers is not good enogh but u can install nova/apex/aviate/milauncher etc. from market.
Edit: 210 mb hboot will enogh for qissme rom
Hi everyone
i've tried all the Roms for the Desire, but i'm a speed fan, so i suggest absolutely the Mildwild MW-14.
I use Miui-XJ for everyday use and i think it's the best GB NONSENSE ROM for this phone.
Then i tried Mildwild-ROM = clean, stable and powerful and RSK Sattelite 3.5 = Sense ROM very stable and full of utility on it
The ROM based on ICS and JB it's heavy for the hardware. but the authors like evervolv team, vijendras and chromium make an excellent work for the life of this phone.
Greets!
Now, the most stable roms are the stock ones. So you can try that or most of GB roms. If you want to newer ones, try Chromium's or VJ's. But problems of these roms are camera and soft reboots.
For me, now it's most stable Evervolv KitKat rom (Nikez 4.0.0p2). No soft reboots or such things. No of JB roms is so great.
*Stock*
As with any thread of this type, each user need make the choice on their own. While this thread has survived, many end up in arguments claiming "this is the best".
As always, it's best to try some out and find which is "most stable" for you.
Thank you and thread closed
Hello friends. I am on MIUI 10.2 . I just want to ask if it is better to change to a custom rom? or there are no much differences between stock rom and custom roms?
If you prefer switching to custom roms, just give your reasons, and if you prefer stock rom, mention why stock rom is better
I would also like to know the answer. Currently I'm on Masik 1.5, but its becoming a little bit sluggish. I want to know if custom roms have full screen gestures like in MIUI and if the camera quality is compared to stock.
Are you from the future? There is no MIUI 10.2 ?
So far the best ROM is stock one. Custom have lots of problems and bugs. You wont find any perfect custom rom. There wil bel always some problems.
I've tried Pie ROMs, for now MIUI is enough, pretty stable and with a lot of features, our device is supported from Xiaomi, maybe a custom ROM will be a good idea after 1/2 years (in my opinion)
