Hi,
So I have a GSM HTC One M8 that is rooted and running a custom rom and recovery.
Due to the 4.4.3 update, I need to update my firmware. From what I have read in the forums, I first had to go back to the stock rom and recovery. Which I did. The nandroid back up process went fine, but the stock recovery wouldn't load up for me. And also, the stock rom is already at the latest 4.4.3!
When I tried to go to settings and check for updates, it says that I already have the latest version installed....
Few questions.
1. Do I need a stock recovery to be able to get the OTA update?
2. Is this the only way to update my firmware?
BTW, my device is S-ON and Unlocked.
I just got my HTC One m8 after my last one was stolen. I had unlocked, flashed custom recovery, and flashed a custom ROM to my old one. But now it seems there is some firmware obstacle to flash custom recoveries now?
So far, I have unlocked my bootloader and flashed a custom recovery (TWRP). Now I would like to flash a custom ROM. I am running the stock obviously and there is an update available. I downloaded the update (which I'm assuming is this updated firmware?) and it is saved to my phone. Now, do I just flash the zip file through TWRP?
I hope you understand and thank you for your help.

no you can't flash the update with TWRP. you need stock recovery, you should have updated the phone before unlocking it
now you have to start over from scratch to take the OTA.
you need stock nandroid + stock recovery for your phone ... look here >>

I've work Root to my phone M8
I installed formal Recovery, but have not succeeded in installing the update
Device status s-on
I think the bot Lauder is open because I tried to re-lock but did not Restart device
What should be done to install lollipop on the device
Bootloader being LOCKED or RELOCKED is not a requirement for OTA.
You need stock ROM, stock recovery, and that is all. Root is okay, and unlocked bootloader is okay (but LOCKED or RELOCKED will also work).
You sure LP has rolled out for your version of the M8? What version is it, and what region are you located?

No, you do not want to do that (install a 5.0 stock ROM with a current 4.4.4 setup). Reason being, your firmware will not be updated to Lollipop firmware.
What you want to do, is go to the stock backup thread, find the stock 4.4.4 ROM and stock recovery for your CID. Restore stock ROM and flash stock recovery, then OTA to 5.0. OTA will update your firmware. This is assuming your CID has rolled out Lollipop.

Hi guys,
I'm not sure exactly where to look for the steps because I'm in a unique situation or atleast I think I am. I need help on installing the LOLLIPOP firmware (N900TUVUFOB6) with a custom recovery and root. I am currently on a rooted note 3 v4.3 with the N900TUVUBMI7 baseband version.do I need to update my bootloader to a newer version? Should I atleast do a stock update to 4.4? Should I be using which custom recovery?
If I'm correct, I can't just flash the latest custom recovery and then flash the newest lollipop (for example the newest TEKHD like this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393
Or can I? What If I just did a normal software update to upgrade me to lollipop, will the bootloader be blocked, disabling me from installing a custom recovery since I would want to root as well. And then would I be able to resume the steps from TEKHD instruction?
Thanks!
Hello guys,
following situation:
Long time I had a 4.4.something Rom installed. Before I flashed a custom Lollipop rom, I followed the advice to just go back to stock and let it update to Lollipop so that the firmware will be updated accordingly and I won't run into problems when flashing a Lollipop Custom Rom. Everything worked fine. Now I had to send my phone to HTC for display repair and just to make sure they won't nag about the custom Rom I reflashed some older stock rom via TWRP backup I found here, I think it was a 4.0 or so. The question is, does this also affect my phones firmware or is it still on the current newest level? So when I get it back, would I need to update to stock Lollipop again before flashing a custom rom or can I go for it straight away?

It won't affect your firmware.
Okay thanks, so Firmware should still be up to date and I can flash a Lollipop Custom Rom. I don't know what they do at HTC repair, if they only reset it or if they also update it, well I'll see.
