Stuck with At&t so not what... Note4, M9, or?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I would really like to use CM but of course will settle for rooted, I think I might lose my mind with out some of my root abilities...
So if I am going to get a HIGH END phone right now... what should I get?

No opinions

Sorry there is no root for the Note 4.
But as to being stuck with AT&T you can unlock your phone and use it with Tmobile.
I have done this, I had to may to get it unlocked but it works fine on Tmobile.

I haven't gotten the note 4 yet, going in about an hour.
M9 rootable?

What's the debate about? Why not just get the N6 and be done with it?

Had M9 unlocked and rooted the first day I had it. Development seems slim on XDA and it was very similar to M8 so exchanged for Note 4. No complaints the M9 is a good phone. But was just ready for a change.

Don't get it.....silly people
I guess I don't understand why everybody says that you cannot ROOT the SM-N910A? I guess you have never heard of ChainFires new program called flashfly. I highly suggest checking him out on Google+ enough said!
Personaly I'm running a AT&T Note 3 on lollipop 5.0 rooted without safest rap as well as AT&T SM-N910A rooted on lollipop 5.1. ....
But you don't have to take my word for it, checI out ChainFires on Googleplus!!

Wrong! Do your research. Chai fire on Google plus flashfly otg and Odin mobile pro equals rooted Note 4 no safestrap needed and on lolipop 5.1!!!

Pics or it didn't happen, just saying.... note 4 still isn't rooted in att permanently and chain fire doesn't work, else we would all have root so if you wouldn't mind, screen shot of lp on note 4 att

I see you was on Brians DKX. If you havent purchased the AT&T phone yet, get the T-Mobile note 4, take it home, get code from unlockocker.net in 30 min, slide AT&T sim in, put unlock code in when it asks, odin lollipop, ill see you on DPop in the T-Mobile note 4 thread. Call and cancel the T-Mobile plan.

at&t employee phone..risk to root?

Hey guys. Just got my new company phone after my skyrocket shattered. Can't stand the LG ui ... I want to root. My phone us owned by at&t..as an employee am I at risk to root you think? I'm familiar with root just not sure if it's risky since this phone isn't mine technically
If you know what you're doing and can back up everything for restoral later (CWM can help with this, of course), I don't see why you'd get in trouble for playing with your company phone. Just don't create more work than necessary for support techs and you should be fine lol. Also, you probably don't want to flaunt crazy customizations to your coworkers
Or you could always use Go Launcher Ex and other Go products
Sent from my Motorola Photon 4G (MoPho) on Sprint, the Now Network using XDA Premium.
Ya I'm using adw right now with go locker. Still doesn't help me with the LG ui in every core app as well as the nasty notification icons. Any suggestions on how I can get those looking a little better?
As for rooting..I asked a coworker. He said I'd get fired Haha. Not sure how they would ever find out..
AT&T are parasitic leeches, they will find out. Trust me. They monitor the phones. I'd buy a Nitro off contract with a clean ESN and load it onto your account, that way you can say that it's your phone.
---------- Post added at 09:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ----------
BUT, I would not risk getting fired. Try using a personal AT&T account.
Ya I'm gonna get a personal account when my sprint contract runs out. Anything I can do for notification icons? Or how hideous LG makes everything

No not yet as there is NO roms or ASOP stuff out for it yet. So rooting or not rooting ur still gonna have it
FWIW, I've worked for At&t for a year and a half, and I've rooted every phone I've had. They can't tell when your phone is rooted; I even have a couple coworkers that have flashed MIUI on their GSIIs.

Where do you come off with saying that AT&T will find out if your phone is rooted? Firstly, u don't seem to be on AT&T but instead on Sprint. Second, there won't be hundreds of forums dedicated to AT&T android phones if AT&T knows immediately if you root the phone. Third, millions of users Root their phones, and even unlock the bootloader. I just sent my unlocked Atrix back to AT&T due a damaged 3.5mm port, and they didn't even say anything. So please do not provide false information to those who wish to know.
Oh now I'm tempted.. thanks for letting me know. What are the advantages without custom roms? And did you Work retail or does that even matter. And is there a recovery image just in case?

There is a recoverory image I think. BUT theres nothing for us to REALLY do to our phones yet. no roms or anything
it seems to me that since you came here inquiring about the risk to your job, that there is indeed some % of chance that you could lose your job over rooting your phone, is that fair to say?
if that's fair to say, I think this is not the best place to seek job security advice + the answer seems obvious.
Ya its not worth my job. I'll just wait for my personal phone in a few months. Thanks for the help guys. That Guy who said he roots all his COUs got me thinking though

[Q] AT&T ROMs on the T-Mobile S4

Hello there! This is my first post here on XDA... Have a bit of a question that I couldn't quickly find an answer to... I'm currently running on an AT&T S4 on AT&T...with a locked bootloader. Needless to say, I'm want no part of this since I'm no fan of Touchwiz and would love some AOSP goodness, so I plan on selling my current S4 and purchasing an unlocked one on T-Mobile. I know that I should be able to change IMEI settings to get 4G and full data within any ROM, but I'm more curious if I can just flash a ROM built for the AT&T S4 on the T-Mobile to skip having to do that.
Thanks for the help!!

Actually, the way things stood 2 weeks ago, you sort of had to if you wanted 4.4.2 because ATT 4.4.2 ROM is working better than the ones made for TMobile. I am currently using "|ROM| |★GOLDENEYE★| |►VJUFNB2◄|4.4.2|KK| |4.3|JB| |►24◄|Mar.9.14" with ktoonz kernel for TMobile. I get better LTE speeds compared to the M919/I9505 specific ROM made by the same dev. I have no idea why that is.

6 months to achieve root?

Hey all. I am looking to upgrade to the Note 4. I have used my Note 3 T- mobile version on AT&T for the past year which had an unlocked bootloader so it got root and custom recovery almost right away. Did it really take 6 months to just get root on the ATT version of the Note 3? And if so, what are the chances it will take that long again?

No one will work on it. Even with a bounty no one really seemed to care about getting root on the N3, we all just gave up hope when suddenly GeoHot swooped in with towelroot totally surprising everyone, but this was months later. There are still no custom ROMs and with safestrap development going away it just seems there is little incentive to root, especially when it's possible we may get the L upgrade in the spring.
But we won't know until the phones are released. Maybe there is a simple exploit and we get lucky, maybe not and we wait months or forever and it never gets rooted.
Oh wow. I didn't realize the ATT version didn't get root till towelroot. Man, that was forever. I am debating getting the Note 4 on T mobile, but to get it right away may be a pain, plus I don't think I will be able to get the 200$ off from Samsung if I go that route. I kinda want to just buy the phone outright and 200$ off is pretty nice.
Maybe I will just go with the ATT version and see how it goes and if development sucks and I really want to root or run custom ROMS I could always sell it in the future and get a T mobile one later....

I believe it did have Root when it was first released. But the update to KK fixed that root exploit, that's when we waited 5 or so months before towelroot came out. So the smart guys didn't update to KK, of course I was one of the stupid ones who did upgrade and I remember painfully waiting for root. Most of us had given up and assumed it would never happen, then literally one day GeoHot released towelroot with no warning at all.
I had the Tmobile one preordered, but I am pretty sure I'm going to cancel it and go with the ATT one. I'm reading here and there of reception and LTE issues with the Tmobile one on the Note 3 and really don't want to deal with that as my phone actually working is much more important than being rooted. I'll miss root greatly, but if I want to stay with ATT I guess that's the price I pay. And maybe we get lucky and a root pops up. Otherwise the only things I'm missing are titanium, and xposed which I mainly use for the multi windows module. I don't bother flashing custom ROM's so don't really care about that.
It did have root at launch and even with the first update. However for those who took the KK update, they were stuck until towelroot.

Ok, that makes more sense. That is kinda what I remember now. Had forgotten all that and didn't pay too much attention cause I had the T mobile version. That was with that Root De La Vega or whatever.
Yeah, I am pretty sure I am gonna go with AT&T version at least at first. I can do it through Best Buy that way and get the 200$ instant credit with turning in a phone. Then on top of that hopefully sell my Note 3 and come out pretty good. At least that is the current idea. Will see for sure. At least now I know I don't want the iPhone 6+ after seeing the Note 4 in person.
As to reception issues, yeah, I don't think my Note 3 T mobile version ever got quit as good a signal or data speeds as the ATT note 3 does on AT&T network, which makes sense really. You don't have the ATT modem installed.
I initially had the Note 3 ATT phone too, and then the t mobile one which I got off ebay. I had both at the same time and did do some initial testing. The db signal was close, but not quite as good as the ATT version one was. That I do recall for sure. Not that the t mobile one was horrible, but just not as good. I am not sure about the data speeds however. I guess if you really want to be sure the phone is working the best it can, then better to use the one designed for the network you will use it on.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
The way I figure it is the Tmobile version is almost always cheaper on swappa/ebay. So if I really get sick of the locked bootloader, and also read reports on XDA that there are no reception issues I can always sell my ATT Note 4 and pick up a Tmobile one. Samsung phones seem to drop a bit in value at that 2-3 month mark, that plus the $200 rebate will mean I will prob make money off such a trade. That's the worst case scenario, realistically I'll probably just adjust to no root and keep the ATT one.

Rooting is evolving

This doesn't sound too good for our Note 4.
Now that it may only be possible to root by modifying the kernel, it seems that unlocking a device will be a requirement going forward.

Chainfire has already said his CF-ROOT method won't work on our Note 4 because the bootloader is locked.
That post was referring to devices with Android 5.0 or Lollipop. It cites the difficulty of rooting Android L due to Android closing up some security holes that allow devices to be rooted.
The takeaway from this that Note 4 users should adhere to is; ensure that you don't install any OTA updates from At&t if you want to root in the future with limited difficulty. At least that's what I believe the post boils down to.

I'll stay of 5 if that means I can root this device. Honestly once rooted 5.0 roms can be developed and flashed so taking the Ota doesn't make sense for an xda community member.

To be honest, flashing a rom on an AT&T note 4 seems very very unlikely.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Yeah I know. It's looking more likely that this device may never be rooted. That is sad only because that is the main drawl to android for me is the ability to fully customize my device. I've never cared about the warrantee or tripping counters, I always know the risk I take. Maybe once I've paid off this phone I'll switch over to TMOBILE,that is as long as Google/Samsung haven't completely locked the phones down by then.

Hell, if that's the way it's going to be, might as well switch to the iPhone 6 Plus....Yeah yeah I know....but at least with the iphone, NO BLOATWARE! I'll just overpay the $500 for the 128gb, and stick with that for at least 3, maybe 4 years....I know I'll be giving up widgets, and custom ROMS, but Hell, if we can't Root or unlock the bootloader, we're not going to have custom ROMs anyway. And all this bloatware is unacceptable. Oh well, I knew before I picked up the NOTE 4 yesterday, that ATT had locked down this phone, so it's my own fault I'm going to have to go through the tedious return process in less than 14 days from now...but at least Apple keeps getting away from dictating to ATT that they will NOT be allowed to put bloatware on the iphone.

Face to face, the note 4 decimates the iPhone. Root or no root. If you want root and don't care about the note features (which in assuming is the case since you're considering an elongated iPhone) why not get the nexus 6.

You know, you have an excellent point. IF ATT doesn't try to lock down the Nexus 6, I think that is exactly what I'll do, though I'll miss the s-pen, but not like the iphone had that either. Better make sure I get the 64gb version since it has no microsd card slot. Or I can wait for Sony's enticing Z4 rumored for a March launch....don't know if ATT will be locking that one down either though...
It's a shame too, because I could give up custom ROM's, but NOT Root! I need my Titanium back-up!
I doubt they would lock down the Nexus line. The whole point of getting a Nexus device is for the open source features ie root and unlocked bootloader. I can understand why they lock down Galaxy devices. They are aimed at productivity and business so it makes sense they want them to be as secure as possible. What I don't understand is why people still complain. This has been going on for years and we have known that ever since the GS4 all future Samsung phone on the AT&T network would be locked down so if it's anyone fault it's the user who buys the phone expecting things to change. It's insanity at its heart. I'm not dissapointed because I bought the Note 4 knowing full well it'll probably never get root or an unlocked bootloader. Besides doing so voids all warranty anyways and I wouldn't wanna risk pretty much a 900 dollar device. Also Samsung has made great strides at appeasing people who like customizing there phones and cleaning up the UI. Still there is always that slim chance someone at Samsung will leak the unlock keys for the device. It's happened before and with how popular the Note 4 is getting, this might very well happen. If not, nobody to blame but ourselves.

If you root on 4.4.4 and safestrap works to flash roms, you'll only be able to flash 4.4.4 roms, never a 5.0 rom.
That is, of course, unless the bootloader gets unlocked.
Right. To get to "L" with root you would either need an unlocked bootloader, or a root method that works on "L" after install.
4.4.x root + Safe strap won't ever get you to "L" by itself.

Hell, I'm not that desperate to flash a custom rom anytime soon. I'd settle for Root so i can use my precious Titanium for backing up app/game save data AND to freeze Samsung and ATT's damn crapware.

About the only reason, right now anyways, that I would want root is so I can turn off a few more of the "bloat" apps. Right out of the box I was able to disable many of the offending apps. Sure- they are still installed but at least they are not running.
for my average usage, I am easily able to get through the day, (off charger at about 6AM and back on for bed around 10PM), with about 25-30% left over.
If we get root, GREAT! I'll dance a little dance around a campfire at midnite. :fingers-crossed:
If we don't get root, I'll be ok. TB will be lost to me but there are alternatives.

Actually it means that if you want a Note 4 on lollipop with AT&T you will not be able to have root.
Well at least without finding a way to unlock the boot loader. The only way to get root on lollipop is to modify the kernel. Which you CAN NOT do without an unlocked boot loader. So if root is a must have for you then you will be stuck on KitKat.
Unless some genius out there finds a way to unlock the boot loader having root on this phone will only last a short while.

Wanting more is normal but asking for something that's already been confirmed to not happen and for valid reasons is absolutely asinine and immature. There are ways to return to stock but there are not ways to fix KNOX from a voided phone. Seriously you make no sense. The Galaxy line has been indeed aimed more for business. Business is actually where the money is at. I'm not talking a couple small businesses buying a ten line bundle, I'm talking about corporate contracts, which is what Samsung is aiming for. You can't compare Blackberry to Samsung. Blackberry completely ignored the everyday user. Samsung aims at both but keeps business in mind first, hence why they are pushing KNOX and it is indeed working.

[BOUNTY] Root for LG X Family

I am interested in buying LG X Screen (K500Y). Apperantly there is no root for it and also for other phones in this family. And there won't be any if someone won't have motivation to look for it. So here is the thread and the first donation. From me, 15$.
So if you own a phone from this family and want root, this is your shot. Don't ever give any number here if you are not gonna pay. I don't want to be responsible for bringing such flagrant acts. I can't run after people asking what they've promised.
But of course, I don't think this thread will even get replies yet alone amount to something. But you have to try in life even though the result is obvious.
I'll plop $50 down for the Boost Mobile X Power LS755
This phone is great... very much worth it!

Indeed. That's why I am interested in it. But seems no else is. I won't be buying it if I can't root it... Shame. Such a beautiful mid-range phone.
It's ONLY $59 bucks on eBay and FREE SHIPPING.. well worth it with its 1.8 gigahertz OCTA Core processor 2 gig ram mediatek chipset the Boost mobile version which scores twice as much as the GSM Cricket model in benchmarks.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/131981455410

[/COLOR]It's well worth it even without Root I mean it's a quick little phone man and the battery lasts a long long time so well worth it even without root
Actually here says the app can root LG X Screen. Can anyone verify that?

........ the report adds that LG will wait until the Mobile World Congress trade show in late February to officially reveal the X power 2 phone. It is supposed to have a 5.5-inch display, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP wide-angle front camera and a 4500MAH BATTERY!

If you want a root for it I could do it if I had the device or a way to emulate stock ROM on PC. Or if you wanna try to find a similarity list? I have extensive experience with these devices.
LG gpad v410, Gpad vk810, LG vs840 (Lucid), LG vs980 (G2) (Verizon)
LG exceed and all the like devices.
Also rooted an LG Lucky on Straight Talk :silly:
I could more than likely manage it haha.

Like put whatever $$$$$ you want towards a device guys between me and my bro upstate we would ABSOLUTELY manage it at some point, there is no way its totally impossible, even ZTE bricks from WalMart can catch the flu haha.

I don't have the device. I want to buy it that's why I started this thread. But like the phone itself its unpopular. Shame, such a nice phone. Sorry I couldn't help supplying you anything.
Might wanna wait and get X Power 2 supposedly coming out within next couple months which will come with a bit higher specs and 4500MAH battery

If not, still great phone without root and that is a very rare thing for me to say... I picked up the GSM version and it's just as nice and smooth even though antutu Benchmark is half of the Boost mobile versions score of around 23000 GSM Cricket model versus 43,000 Boost mobile version
I understand the whole (fine without root) thing that is exactly how I feel about most HTC devices, however I would go insane just because I know how LG's work the easiest lol, am currently on an s6 edge+ and I feel like im in another country, touchwiz sucks!
is the bootloader can be unlocked , fastboot available ?

I would assume they replaced the Fastboot.img with a download mode -.-. & anything over Lollipop on LG is bootloader strapped down hard, I remember my Gpad v410, having to restore to KK just to root with KingRoot, then Loki patch twrp install, huge loop that was totally unnecessary
Sent from my SM-G928F using XDA Labs
