Specifically Double tap to wake up & sleep.
I realize I am supposed to hold onto the phone but it still does not work.
It's seemed a bit finnicky to me. It seems to work when I need it to, but if I'm just messing around it sometimes doesn't. I just calibrated the G-Sensor in display settings. Maybe that will help?
I did actually, twice, each on different leveled surfaces.
Phone must be held in portrait mode, or with the top slightly elevated when you double tap. I think it also doesn't work in power saving mode

my friends htc one m9 is having the same issue.... gestures aren't working when the screen is off. Auto rotation isn't working either
The calibration sensor moving left to right isn't working...
This was after I updated the firmware to 1.32.401.17.. Anyone else having this issue?
I've noticed that my M9 only double taps to sleep if its in the lock screen. Is that what its suppose to do? It won't sleep if it's not in the lock screen.
If the phone is on the desk I nudge it slightly so it rotates a tiny bit to the left or right before double tapping to wake. You have to be in the lock screen to double tap to sleep.
Double tap works fine for me. If you don't move the phone beforehand, triple tap will wake it.

So peeps, I was having the exact same problem as op, narrowed it down to the latest HTC lockscreen update from play store, go back to stock version of the lockscreen and try it out, mine works now perfectly, left some feedback on the play store for HTC on the update. Try it see if it helps any ?

I am having the same issues. My auto rotate does not work even though it is turned on. Also, my double tap to turn on and off does not work. They both worked just fine for the first couple days and then suddenly no longer work. I can't think of anything I could've done to cause this.

It just started working again, we updated the firmware and assumed it was that. But it wasn't it seems... see if you are updated to the latest HTC service pack, etc
I have the same issue, it has started when I updated to the last AT&T Software from the HTC website and I tried reinstalling, resetting to factory setup but it still not working
Same here, it stopped working when I updated to latest AT&T by RUU.
It was working fine without any issues when I was using a custom ROM ViperOne.
Auto-rotate works fine, it's just the double tap to wake and camera launch (landscape + volume up) don't work.
I tried calibrating g-sensor twice, still not working. Factory reset didn't fix.
I am 100% sure it's a software bug. Hope they fix.
Edit: HTC Released an update on the Play Store and has supposedly fixed it.
Same here After update
I am having this problem as well. Gestures stopped working when the screen is off as soon as I installed the newest AT&T firmware update. All of my apps are up to date and the phone is not rooted. I purchased it two weeks ago. I performed a factory reset after I updated firmware to make sure everything was in order.

That is not the latest AT&T update. It should be 2.11.502.18. Have you checked the Play Store to see if you have the latest version of motion launch? Search for HTC Motion Launch. If you do, I would look into updating the AT&T software to the latest to see if that helps.
on an international phone i had the same problem on first boot, but after a reboot, everything worked fine..
I also..my new m9 (since now stock) wake gesture fail frequently !!!!
In power saver mode totally....incredible!!!
Any solution?
Double tap to wake seems to look at the proximity sensor too to check it isn't in your pocket. Make sure nothing is covering it, such as your case if you use one.

All of the sudden my screen wouldn't auto rotate in both apps and normal interface, i haven't downloaded any app recently so i don't think it is caused by an app.
Things i've done to try and fix it: - turn auto-rotate off\on in quicksettings notification bar, did the same in screen settings and again in accessibility
- calibrated g-sensor, which doesn't give any errors
- rebooted phone after calibration or auto-rotate setting change(multiple times)
- downloaded phone tester app and it can't find the g-sensor
I'm on the last update of Suprimou rom with titanium kiss kernel and have been on this rom for a few months now.
Any suggestions?

Hope ur g sensor starts working and this s*** doesn't happen with me and other HOV users..
Thanks, im trying some methods out now, really want it to work again because i don't think htc would like it if i'd send a phone in with unlocked bootloader and this kind of problem.
Update, It's working again! not sure how long it will work.
I rebooted several times while holding down volume up button, then turn it off and let it sit for 10 min.
Now it's working
happened same thing to me so returned to the stock then it was fine now again I'am rooted

Hi Guys,
So I got my M9 yesterday and its awesome. The ony problem is that it does not auto rotate.
I have turned auto rotate on and off, no diffrence.
I have done the G-sensor calibration tool in display settings. The top bar does not move (Guess thats the problem one).
I have loaded the phone up in safe mode and done the G-sensor thing. Still not working.
The only time the screen rotates is when a app forces it to rotate. like in a game, camera app, and youtube.
I only noticed this late last night.
I have yet to do a factory reset as I am at work. Once home I will give it a try.
Any one got any ideas?
Sense never rotated whilst sober..
So I have done a factory reset. No change.
Got it at 3 (UK), they said I can do a swap.
Hopefully 2nd device will will rotate...

Not fully true, i think Sense 3.5 had it, but they removed it again after.
Could be 4.5 too, tho i'm not 100% sure, but i remember back with the Sensation that eventually a new Sense came that allowed rotation of Sense itself.
You're talking about Manila yeah? it was modded i.e. not that much sober..
I've got exactly the same issue on a UK SIM-free model. The Motion Launch gestures don't work either.
Did you get the issue sorted?
I got it swapped for a new device which works.
From what I understand the sensor was just broke. Don't know how though. It didn't seem like it was a software problem but more a hardware issue.
3 did the exchange after they had a little play with it. Was a quick swap.
That's good mate, I'm glad Three sorted it out for you.
Hope Amazon can help me out!
What a shame, sham
I have the same problem only I bought a privacy screen from Otterbox. I really dont want to swap for the Auto Rotate and G Sensor problem only to purchase another screen (Which I applied flawlessly). I have the Verizon HTC M9 Brand out of the box I had these issues. Its annoying when playing a game or trying to take a picture for it not to auto adjust the orientation. I've done the factory restore as the HTC rep suggested after I told him this happened out of the box I really feel like these support people don't listen to what the users are saying. Now I'm supposed to go back to my Verizon carrier and swap phones to setup again for the 3rd time... ridiculous!
Sidenote: this phone gets way too hot and the picture quality/stabilization is worse than the M8

This may sound funny..I had the same issue with my new M9. Had it for about 3 weeks then the problem occured. I tried these steps to no avail:
1. Restart
2. remove installed apps
3. Calibrate
4. Calibrate on Safe mode
5. Reset phone to Factory
I was about to call HTC until I saw another dude posted an unusual solution.. I didn't pay attention to him because it was silly but it did fix mine.
During calibration, I noticed that the top sensor is not moving, only the one at the bottom.. WHat I did, While on the calibration page, I dropped my phone about 6 inches to the carpet..did it twice until you see the top sensor also move. Then do the calibration..I have a dot view case so I would prefer u to drop the corner with a protective case on it...
If you have warranty and you have timne, then call warranty support...
Cheers..

u make my day, i was one week thinking i can't fix it and will use it without auto rotated because it works only in one direction and then i read about here to hit my phone and boom it works in all direction!!! :good:
thanks!!
With both the M7 and M8, I could swipe up on the camera (stock ROM) and the camera would launch right away without having to do the pattern unlock. With the M9 (which I just got 2 days ago), when I swipe up on the camera it does not launch the camera app, but it delays for ~3 seconds, then tells me to do pattern unlock. When I do the unlock, it goes to my home screen and still doesn't launch the camera app.
Is this behavior consistent for everyone else on the stock ROM/launcher?
Still investigating what launchers/ROMs I'd be most interested in for this new device or whether it's even worth keeping. Having quick camera access is pivotal and the motion gesture holding the phone in landscape and pushing the volume button is a complete joke (works 1/3 the time... maybe).
I have both m8 and m9 and no software differences at all in this area . try to factory rest your phone and I think the problem will be fixed .

It couldn't be the same software.
A) M9 is 64 bit OS and M8 is 32 bit
B) Sense 7 hasn't even been officially released for the M8, so if you're using a Sense 7 rom on your M8, then it is a port from an M9 rom.
So...stock it's definitely not the same software and even if you're running the "same" custom ROM on both, they're not really the same, just similar.
I am able to launch the camera from the lock screen with no issues and always have. I agree, do a wipe and reflash; something is borked on your phone.

Let me see if I understand...So you have camera icon in your docked icons? How are you turning on the screen? Power Button? Then you pull up the camera icon from the lock screen? Then you get a 3 second delay and then you have to enter your pattern unlock? And after you enter your pattern, you get the home screen and not the camera?
That doesn't sound normal. I'm not on a stock rom right now, but when I put the camera icon in my docked icons, turn the screen on and swipe it up, I get the camera immediately (but I'm using smartlock right now and I don't have to enter my pin when I'm in the office).
Good (?) to know I'm just uniquely seeing bad behavior. I'll try factory reset phone under backup & reset. Loving the ability to search settings fluidly now.
Thanks everyone for the info!

Just tried that to no avail. Even with the setting at "Lock Screen" but no pattern/pin lock, it still delays then goes to home screen regardless of app I attempted to launch.

What about other apps? Like mail or messages? Do they have the same behavior? I assume they would, but I really know know why that would happen. Did you check in the Sprint forum to see if anyone else is having that issue?
After getting a new device with 5.0.2 that worked fine, I upgraded to 5.1 and saw the issue again. That's when I looked more thoroughly through the Play Store for app updates (probably skimmed through on first device). I'm pretty sure after updating "HTC Sense Home" with its proclaimed "bug fixes" the issue was gone. Camera and other swipe up apps on lock screen behave as expected now.
Updated to 6.12.401.4 last week, and double tap to wake isn't working any more. I checked its enabled in settings. Unlocked, and previously rooted, but currently stock firmware.
Any clues?
Tried factory reset?
Check if changing the kernel, for example to elementalx does anything.

Well, in my case its not related to voice calls - not made one for 3 weeks. Actually, it has started working again without any intervention (other than a reboot due to battery drain). My impression is that the motion part is now less sensitive (as in lift phone, then double tap - the lift is the gating point) and sometimes I still fail to wake the phone. Its very hard to tell if the behaviour has changed, or if I am now just better adapted to working with the feature - certainly there was a change on upgrading to 6.
I have encountered this bug where I'm unable to use ambient display or wake up the display without the use of power button. Everytime I lock the screen it becomes unresponsive even the quick gestures don't work.
I have performed a soft reset but the problem has persisted.
Many other users seem to be suffering from this issue.
My device is full stock, no root or 3rd party apps on it.
Can anyone help me this this issue?
All users are facing this... It's because of battery optimisation.
No issues here. I am able to use the gestures just fine. Even the tap to wake and pick up to wake is working fine. I am 10.0.3 build.
I'm also having issues on tap to wake.
Happens to everyone. It's a hit or miss. Battery optimization makes the phone go into deep sleep and cause this issue is what i too understand.
Ya i did happen couple of times for me hope this bug get ironed out soon.

Same issue here also
Started encountering the issue recently - 3 days into ownership of the phone ?
The only peculiar thing I can remember is changing the override force dark toggle yesterday. And now that I recall, I don't remember seeing the ambient display since then. ?
Confirming I also have this issue. Very frustrating
I can trigger a black screen by holding the phone in landscape and launching the stock camera app. Then I have to hold Vol+/- and Power to reboot and it works again.
