You can root it using the T-Mobile S6 chainfire auto-root tar that you flash in ODIN, but I wouldn't recommend it right now, there's pretty bad battery drain after rooting because it's not the right recovery for our device.

I don't mind a battery drain. Its that I have a note 2 and am gonna upgrade to a new phone because I am selling my phone. I use my phone for my internet for computer and watching TV at home so if I don't get it rooted or custom ROM with WiFi thether or mobile hotspot I am gonna be internetless and forget that. I am sure someone will make a custom ROM I just need to find out where to get tar files for root and tar files to unroot aoni can get them and root phone and when they figure out phone better and ROMs etc I will switch it. Can you provide me with info links etc please? Thank you soo much for your reply

Just download this and extract the zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/731/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-zerofltetmo-zerofltetmo-smg920t.zip There will be an ODIN exe in there, flash the tar file in ODIN with your phone attached via USB in download mode and it'll be rooted!

Also TWRP for the T-Mobile S6 might work as well, I assume you can flash it just fine, I haven't tried though

All it flashes is a recovery and cache file and supersu apk and binaries then goes back to stock recovery. Battery has nothing to do with it..

deep sleep fix

Does this mean it's "safe" to root using the T-Mobile Chainfire method. Is the No-sleep issue the only one?

That may be true but I find it curious that there is only one post in the Development section and no custom ROMS. Frankly I can wait until Chainfire or whomever makes a good root and unlock. Call me cautious.

Fair enough, i waited to hear some feedback before trying. But everything works i promise :good: can at least remove everything not wanted, in the mean time while dev is making its way.

Hoping to put up a deodexed rooted base this weekend.

I got the hotspot / tethering working perfectly without rooting. Besides since there is no root available I read it will permanently disable Samsung Pay

Another I think I'm bricked thread

I have looked through some of the threads on bricked phones and none have seemed to help. Right now all that shows up is Samsung. I found a video that said to get a file from samsung-update so I did. I used Odin to flash that and everything seems fine. This all started after I decided to try and go back to stock from liquid smooth. I just wasn't a fan of it and wanted to try tomorrow for a touchwiz rom. When I tried to flash back it didn't work so I thought if I used the tool kit to unroot it would put the original stock back. All it did was unroot. Any help? When I check my flash count it is around 4. If they check that at Sprint will I be able to have my phone fixed or will I just be SOL?
Hello shazo85,
If you can get to download mode (which it sounds like you can, seeing your flash counter), you can flash a stock ROM via Odin.
Try this thread and here download the package for your device.

Its shows if you have flashed a custom rom and another way for carriers to know if you have rooted your phone. So every time you flash a custom rom rom your phone counts it. But you can always reset the flash counter with triangle away.

It is exactly what it's called it counts the number of flashes you do lol you can see it by going into download mode(volume down +power) it will be in the top right corner.

True however I'm the type of person that has to make sure I know what I'm doing to unroot also. So now that I'm rooted again I want to unroot and make sure I do it right. Then find a touchwiz rom that I like that is fully working.

Ok, look for the "ODIN 1-clicks" thread, it takes you back to stock, stock recovery, and resets your flash counter in one
As for good touchwiz roms, I would recommend either MOAR (Mother of All ROMS) or TPR (the peoples rom)
You can find both in the "Android development" subforum"

I will check them out. I'm currently trying to use the toolkit that was posted to unroot. I'm sitting at the TWRP ADB Sideload screen now. All I have is a bar at the bottom and above it cancel. I'm guessing it is installing adb sideload filename.zip? Not sure how long this will take. I will look for the ODIN 1-clicks thread later. To help narrow it down any idea as to what forum it was posted in?

Just saw your other post in my thread and it sounds like you didnt do it correctly. Interested to see the output from the box on the one click, with that said load this onto your sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099

Also I just noticed your OP says you came from liquidsmooth. That is CM10.1 based. CM10.1 does not show the galaxy S3 screen when booting. Which tells me that u still have that kernel and a touchwiz based system. Whatever you did to return from liquidsmooth didnt flash a new kernel. You also have to wipe before switching back to a touchwiz rom like stock, my zip above is a fix for all that

Thanks, I will give that a shot. The link was posted above by someone. I didn't know that was the same one you were talking about. Seems like it isn't as easy to root, flash and even to unroot the S3 as it was the EVO 4G. I only had issues with some roms on that.
This is a samsung. Its easier than any HTC to unroot and go back to stock. Your just not used to it yet

Agreed. Samsung bootloader is unlocked by default. That means rooting is as simple as an Odin flash of a recovery. With HTC (locked bootloader), you had to use a program such as unrevoked to gain access to it. And each and every update HTC tried to re-lock the bootloader, so it was difficult to know if you should update (this is one reason why we get so many threads on here that say "how do I root with MB1?!?!?!").
As far as I'm aware, rooting with GS3 has been accomplished using the same method for quite a while.
Now, rooting using the Odin method is a bit more involved than it was with unrevoked, but really the only steps are clicking through a couple of files. The steps are stated clearly. It's just new and feels different. I was really wary of using Odin (still am, if I can be honest), but I was much more uncomfortable with unrevoked.
Samsungs seem harder because everybody and their mother has a tutorial on how to root it and nobody uses the most quick, clear cut 30-sec root possible, CF AUTO ROOT is easy and quick as hell, yet people treat it like the redheaded step child and ignore its presence. I dont get why
*Not lying when i say 30-sec either.
FInd me an easier method than that

More information on CF Auto-Root:
Website (look up d2spr in the big table).
XDA Thread. Has instructions and further clarifications.
I had honestly never heard of it before, but it seems like a good (and quick) option for getting root from stock.
Could be that I'm just not used to it. I only ever had to root the EVO if I was coming back from Sprint. If I remember right the unroot was just load up 2 zip files. Nice that this is just one to unroot. I will have to look into that CF Auto Root.
I too was one of those people looking for how to root MBI. I didn't know it was all the same. Chances are I would have never donated to the toolkit if I would have known. I also would have never used the toolkit. It would be nice if we had just one thread on rooting instead of 3 or 4 that we have. Might be less confusing that way.
EDIT: Forgot to say that the zip file for the unroot and counter reset did work. I had my phone back up and working just as I clocked in for work. All night I have had apps downloading.

[Q] Please Help with softbrick

I have T-Mobiles Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919). I upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 yesterday, rooted, and was removing bloatware when something I deleted screwed up my gallery so I decided to re-do everything (go back to stock) and start all over. Of course that was a fail and now my screen says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." (didn't work)(cannot get into download mode or recovery) tried restoring through Odin (did this with an Galaxy s2 before and it fixed the problem) But did not work either!!! At the top of the screen it says:
Odin mode
Product name: sgh-m919
Current Binary: custom
System Status: custom
Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0
Knox Warrany Void: 0x1
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enabled
eMMC BURST MODE enabled
START (224, 1440)
SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 4 , Binary : 1
I had originally thought that Knox was just a app, but know better now. I am downloading the 4.3 firmware (6 more hours to download) to flash through Odin, but expect the same results. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or do I own a new paper-weight??? I have read through many forums and cannot find a solution.....

Yeah, with large downloads like that sometimes they mess up. You can run a MD5 hash/checksum to make sure the file you downloaded didnt mess up. But download it again from somewhere and give it a shot. No reason why you won't be able to Odin

Once you are back to stock 4.3 and not rooted all you need to do to root
the phone is to download and Odin flash cf-autoroot.
Here is the direct download link for cf-autoroot in case you want to root your phone:
http://download.chainfire.eu/328/CF...jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.zip?retrieve_file=1
Unzip cf-autoroot into an empty folder on your computer's desktop, use
Odin which is also included in the zipfile to flash cf-autoroot in pda slot.
Once you are rooted you will need to flash a custom recovery like cwm or twrp.
Good luck!

[Solved] Rooting 4.4.2 official

I know there's plenty of posts on this already. ..
But I seem to be running into a problem....come on guys don't flame me lol I've been around the block with all the S phones and rarely have I asked such a question. And yes I've been searching for 3 days constantly while home and at work all day and night trying to figure this out.
I've got a note 2 at&t on official 4.4.2 that I want to unlock to tmobile but my issue is rooting it.
I've read towel doesn't work so I went to cf auto root and that seems to be where my issue is.....
I flash it thru odin and it passes goes thru with the whole updated rooted recovery....reboots and then SuperSU says "Unfortunately SuperSU has stopped working"
SuperSU is installed as a system app as its supposed too but I'm not rooted.
The market does not give the option to update. ...only open.
I sure could use a helping hand...thanks in advance
Also when I go back into recovery I'm back to the stock recovery....I've tried multiple times flashing cf but the end result is the same....nowhere

I can't seem to get a custom recovery on it yet and odin doesn't recognize the file you sent me to in the link.
I'll continue sitting here till 9:00 till I have to leave for work ....
If you or someone can continue throwing me bones I will surely appreciate it

After you do the cf auto root and the phone boots up and when you look in your apps does supersu show up or do you have to download it?

Should I just flash a custom 4.4.2 rom? And that will take care of all my issues?
I have every intention of doing so anyhow but I was just trying to get to the point of unlocking to tmobile first off then Goin to town with custom rims lol but if flashing a rim with solve all my issues with su I'll do it....I'm dling a rom now so...

(ODIN) Stock 5.1.1 System, Recovery, Cache, Bootloader (IMG & TAR.MD5)

I was able to grab the restore Zip from SmartSwitch. Not sure what we can do with it, so I am posting on here to see if anyone has any Ideas.
ZIP Name: SM-N920A_1_20150818195900_nkscszoj53_fac.zip
Files:
AP_N920AUCU1AOGG_CL5389823_QB5704490_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
BL_N920AUCU1AOGG_CL5389823_QB5704490_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CP_N920AUCU1AOGG_CL5389823_QB5704490_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CSC_ATT_N920AATT1AOGG_CL5389823_QB5704490_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
The zip is about 1.84G so its a full OS
I will be experimenting today to see what I can do to modify the files and repackage them. Maybe fool SmartSwitch into restoring the Modified files in a restore. To remove bloatware and add tweaks to the OS.
If you have any ideas or want a copy of the zip, please hit me up.
UPDATE:
I now have the Stock 5.1.1: System, Recovery, Bootloader, and Cache IMG's ( AT&T NOTE 5 )
Pulled from the restore Files.
UPDATE:
Well the file work in Odin, so as of now we have a way to go back to stock if needed.

Files will be up in a few mins. Also to note that this will trigger the BL count as I noticed that it is now showing .1 in Odin mode. Will post a pic in a min.
Also this is stock and has all the Bloatware and everything else as of now. I am working on a clean System.img, which will remove all of the unneeded files and bloatware. If anyone wants to jump in on this project, feel free to shoot me a message.
Well this is a good start! It would be amazing if there was a way to make a pre rooted Odin flashable. Gotta take some baby steps first though. Lol.

There are multiple ways to wash a cat. You don't have to throw them in a tub of water to get them clean. Sometimes a more subtle approach, while not as completely effective, is good enough (or better than nothing.)
I'm not saying that it'll happen, only that if it does happen, it will likely be in a somewhat unconventional way...
Look at the older Motorola phones when you had to use Safe Strap. It was kind of a pain in the ass, but it worked.

As far as I know safestrap is only to replace a cutom recovery to circumvent a locked bootloader. Root is an entirly different beast. I hope I'm wrong, but I've had the AT&T note 4 for a year and no root love yet, so I may be a bit jaded. I will say that it is not as necessary as it use to be, but I can't imagine how fast this thing would be with root and custom ROM. On the same token I'm excited to use samsung pay so I'm currently happy rocking stock, albeit super debloated.

I'm not a noob, but I guess I am in this regard.... BL count is different than tripping Knox, correct? Any ill effects from adding to the BL count?
I dont care about ROOT or custom ROMs anymore. If we could get a safe cleaned stock ROM with all of the AT&T junk pulled completely out it would be amazing. I use package manager to get it all disabled now, but having the space it all steals back would be a nice bonus.

Even if you could root and delete that stuff (instead of just disabling it) you wouldn't gain any space. The "free" space would just sit unused in the normally read-only system partition.
In order to gain space, you'd have to repartition the device... which is rarely done.

I didnt think about that. So it still isnt any better than just using package disabler pro to get it all out of sight. It would still be nice to not need to depend on a 3rd party app to get rid of it all.

What do you mean you've "tried kingroot, pingpong root, and every other one out there and still nothing"? So you have tried them all and were unsuccessful? Which S6? Which firmware are you running? What happens when it fails? Which recovery? You're not going to find anything that will crack the firmware without flashing something through Odin or recovery dude.
You will need to learn how to use Odin. Here is a tutorial on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv0BnfpNxEs
Download and, using Odin, flash the TAR file from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=44922
Your phone will reboot and you will have root.
You can also install TWRP through Odin.
You need to use Odin for this. If that is too complicated for you, then you are out of luck.

There is absolutely no app that will reset Knox on any Samsung phone S4 and after. Triangle away never reset Knox, it reset the flash counter on older boot loaders. Once Knox has been tripped there is no way to reset it without replacing your motherboard.
