Today I picked up my one x from store. It's a very nice phone but seriously what is wrong with HTC ? It's current firmware is so riddled with bugs, I cannot believe they release their flagship with this kind of ****ty firmware. I know it will be much better when the patches start coming.........
I am currently on 1.26.xx, has anyone started receiving any OTAs ?

If you find this phone that bad I'd return it right away and switch to another, although I get the impression you'll feel the same about that phone as well.

Agenda widget causes sense to crash
When I connect the charger the touch screen goes crazy and unresponsive. Goes back to normal when I unplug the charger.
Sense reloads every now and then
You cannot enable certain options in settings like GPU 2d rendering

Easy and naive answer can you come up with something more constructive
Your Opening post wasnt constructive at all and seemed a rant to me. That why you got such answers.
Rather than posting a new thread, why cant you just search the forum and find a thread where you problems are mentioned?
No ranting threads are allowed so this thread is now closed
A couple of months ago I decided to upgrade to the Galaxy S4 and now I'm just so insanely bored with it that I am seriously considering buying an HTC One mainly so I can flash roms again. With the S4, unless you were lucky enough to have the original firmware, then you cannot unlock the bootloader and flash custom roms. I've always loved the HTC One but went for more familiar Galaxy S4 thinking that it would give me the same freedoms as my older Galaxy, but I was pretty wrong on that assumption. So I have a few questions for you all before I jump in...
1) Is there a safe and reliable method to unlock the bootloader that works with all firmwares? Do any of the updates lock down the phone like what happened with the S4?
2) What's S-off and do I need it? I've only had Samsung phones.
3) In your own opinion how healthy is development for this phone? I was hoping to run a stable Sense rom. Not really interested in AOSP roms.
Thank you all for your time.
I actually jumped over to the One from the S4 last week. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up on hangouts, mine is [email protected]
I'm glad I mad the change. I'm s-off, boot loader unlocked, and running a VERY stable sense ROM. With the S4, I had to use aosp because touchwiz was awful to me. Bloated and laggy. Sense has been so great, I don't feel any need to flash aosp right now.
I can also explain s-off a bit to you if you'd like.
The only thing I really miss is the far better camera experience on the S4. If picture taking on your phone is something you REALLY have to have. You may find yourself regretting. The One is not bad by any means, but for clarity and sharpness, I'd say the S4 is hands down better. We're also talking about camera phones here, can't really complain much. Only so much they can do with limitations on size and what not.
Sense is actually quite nice and I find myself switching between CM11 and a Sense built ROM. I can't make up my mind some times...haha
Does the 4.3 OTA break the ability to unlock the bootloader and root?
It shouldn't. Currently you're unable to, but that's just until beaups updates his s-off utility. So far so good! And with us finally getting official source for 4.3development should pick up even more. Honestly, i'm really enjoying this phone, the screen is slightly smaller than the s4, which was my initial apprehension, but I actually prefer that. I don't have to do that awkward stretch to reach the edges of the screen.

I'm a fan of larger screens so for me it'll be a little annoying at first but the speakers will more than make up for it when I'm watching a video. To be honest I really like the S4 but it's just so limiting (unless you're lucky enough to have an MDK version). Also it seems like EVERYONE these days is walking around with an S4, where as almost no one has an HTC One. That's not really a good reason to choose it over the S4, but to me it kind of makes it special by being unique. I just really hate that Verizon doesn't carry the black model because if they did I would already have the One.
This screen in plenty big, don't worry. That was my primary concern, but I haven't missed it. I actually had an MDK model, since I got the s4 on release day. I do love these speakers on the One, too. The build quality on this thing is incredible though, it just feels so... Premium. No more plastic lol
I switched from a s4 as well. I miss the camera but that's it.

Anytime man, glad to help
I'm getting kind of paranoid now that I see there's no root method for the 4.3 OTA yet. I'm really hoping when I get it it's still on 4.2. Should I immediately put it into Airplane mode? I've heard stories of Galaxy S4s automatically downloading and installing the OTA without any user input...
You shouldn't have to. Mine has always asked me if I wanted to install. Wouldn't hurt to throw it in airplane mode, though. An update to rumrunner should come along soon, there wasn't much in the OTA that could've patched that all up.

I got a brand new one at a VZW store over the weekend and it came with the .8 update so it was 2 updates away from 4.3
Just got a one from Verizon mail order. It came with 1.10.605.10.
Much nicer than my galaxy s3! Now I need to read up on rooting and unlocking.

I guess I got lucky. My phone came with 4.2.2 software version 1.10.605.8
I should be okay to do rumrunner on that version right? I saw on the website it was listed. Does anyone have a good youtube video on using rumrunner (on Windows) to link me since I'm an HTC noob coming from Samsungland?
I'm not crazy about the button placement, lack of a menu button, and losing .3" of screen but I'm so far loving this phone and won't miss the S4 once it's gone.
Not gonna lie, it's super easy. You don't need a video. You basically hit enter a couple times. Just follow the written directions

I can't be the only one thinking about it with the lineup in 2015. The S6 Edge is sexy as hell but there isn't enough bang for the buck. HTC M9 is not even a contender this year (honestly HTC, you need to step it up). LG G4 sounds promising so far, although if LG somehow manages to screw something up in the specs/software, it's a long wait til the Note 5 and I'm not a huge fan of Touchwiz. I want to upgrade but my G3 is still pretty solid and I don't want to jump down below 5.5(ish) so I'm in limbo.
Anyone else thinking of upgrading? If so, which phone is tempting you?
No thinking about it, I will be getting the normal galaxy s6 next month. In my opinion you cant beat samsungs amoled screen and the exynos processor sounds amazing. Plus I like the idea of a fingerprint scanner over knock code now that it is touch not drag. I can live without removables, never needed to replace a battery and with 64 or more internal I wont need a sd. The G3 is a good phone but it already bores me, first phone I can say that about within the first year. I'll probably get some hate about this but my iphone 3g kept me happy longer. Sure that was my first smart phone back in 2008 but still... It was boring ios.

I agree on the G3 boring me part. My HTC DNA kept me interested longer than this phone did, for whatever reason. I was seriously considering jumping to the S6 or S6 Edge but I went to go check them out at Best Buy and neither of them amazed me. Sure their build quality is better than previous generations but nothing "wow"ed me and from what I hear, the battery life leaves much to be desired. Why Samsung went with 2500mAh, I have no idea. I can definitely live without removables too but not with a battery that small.
As much as i want to upgrade to the s6 edge i think i will hold off and see what LG has to offer. I like the G3 and have grown to like the buttons on the back of the phone as well as the knock to wake and sleep. Plus the g3 is the perfect size for me and the s6 is a tad smaller so ill wait for now.

The poor battery is from wake locks, the exynos processor Is 30% more efficient than the snapdragon 810 and the amoled screen takes much less power so after the wake lock issues are taken care of it should last just as long or longer than other flagships coming out.

The rumor mill is saying the g4 will be bigger. Personally the g3 is as big as I want to go with phones.
All in all we all have different tastes and the s6 is the flavor I'm digging right now. I guess we will see if I still think it looks tasty in a month.
Absolutely no Samsh_t for me whatsoever.
No root on Z3 stopped me from buying.
I may consider M9, but I'd like to see what G4 will be first.
Camera is a big thing for me and after having the Nexus 5, HTC M8, and a Samsung S5.... I am sticking with the G3 for a while longer. Lots of people talk about how great the Samsung S5 camera is, but I did a side by side comparison and everyone said the G3 pictures were the best. For the S6, I guess we'll see how that camera turns out. Plus, it's going to be hard to root.
Samsung is ****ing bloated all to hell and back. G4 looks like it could be much better than the s6.

You regret switching from the M8 to the G3? What do you like better on the M8?
And I agree with @dakpluto that the G4 sounds like it could be just as good, if not better, than the S6/S6E. Over-hyped phones in my opinion.

Honestly, my M8 was less laggy and just overall performed better. I know it's backwards, but in my experience, it was true. That and there's WAY more development for the HTC flagship phones on XDA than the G3.

I definitely agree on the development part. For whatever reason, LG G3 D851 had steady development but never exploded like my previous phones and seems to have dwindled now.
Thankful for what we got though!
Still loving my G3 on CM12.. Running great for me. As far as the S6 & M9 are concerned neither are worth the money (to me) to upgrade, and I even have an available upgrade. Ha. I bought my mint G3 non-contract with clean IMEI from a buddy for $275. He said it was too big of a device for him. I can't really justify an upgrade right now with the current offerings. S6 has Touchwiz (pardon me while I puke), antiquated home button & capacitive keys, no micro SD, and anemic battery. The M9 just didn't do it this year, and there's no word on a GPe version yet anyway. Safe to say I'll stick with my "Nexus 5.5" for now..

I'm actually grateful that it hasn't. Summer is coming and like many of you, I've spent more time then I care to remember flashing 3 different ROM's a day. I'm glad I don't have that issue anymore honestly.
I have the G2, and think I might upgrade to the G3. The G4 is the only other phone that has my interest also but won't be sold to probably late May. Plus, the G4 will be already on Lollipop and doesn't have an older KK bootloader to flash twrp on and might be stuck. Unless bump gets updated to work on the new Lollipop bootloader. What you guys think?

I would put down money saying the g4 will be bootloader unlocked on T-Mobile just like this g3.
It's no question for me. The G4 will be mine by pre-order. I have owned 1 Samsung phone and have had 5 Lg's including the G2 and 3 so it's only right to get the 4. Plus all of my other electronics are Lg so they sync up seamlessly.

Here's what I mean. The G3 on Lollipop can get root now. This allowed us to to modify the aboot with the previous kitkat version where we could bump the boot.img and recovery.img. This is only necessary if you want to flash custom roms, etc...
When the G4 comes out, it will come with Lollipop out of the box. It will probably be able to get rooted also with the latest exploit we have for root on Lollipop. But to get a custom twrp put on it to flash custom roms probably won't happen and will stay locked down on any carrier untill a new bump is developed that will work with the Lollipop aboot.img. The G4 doesn't have a previous version of Kitkat to do the hack that we do both on the G3 and G2 to make bump work.
My hunch is rom development on the G4 will not be possible until an exploit is found. Not sure we can put a G3 KK base aboot.img on a G4. Probably make it a brick.
I still cant make up my mind. Just not sure the M9 will be worth it over keeping the M8. I live by Pittsburgh pa, so meeting @dottat and do the javacard would not be an issue. The problem I have is that the with slight upgrade compared to the M8 and if we cant achieve root(sunshine) the support isn't going to be there with kernels, firmware, and devs. Im sure ViperRom will do its best to keep verizon support but as we all know verizon tends to be on the backburnner. With every device being more and more locked up and verizon to refuse htcdev, plus since it seams GPE's are dead I am thinking the way to go would be is to switch to the new nexus phone if I dont get the M9 but who knows if verizon will decide to do nexus again so jump ship to att or tmobile. If I get the Verizon M9, I will be stuck with big red for 75% of the cost of the phone(unless I pay off early). All that being said I love HTC's started with the HTC Sensation that I still use from time to time then (got the S3 hated it and put sense5 on it lol) M7 and M8 and sense is the best. I would like your input, so should I get the M9 and chance the support or hold out and wait for exploit. Thank you for your time!

If you like sense like I do....there's only one answer. I love how this thing feels compared to the m8 now. Quite a few devs already have s-off so the support should be here.
Lots of new phones coming soon, including a couple of fancy Motorola and HTC devices. Sit right, hang on, then pounce on something.
My M9 is a great phone other than the Camera. I'm going to trade it in for the G4. I miss the larger screen size of the N6.

I think the M9 is going to prove to be the better phone, besides the new Nexus but that won't be til Christmas. HTC Sense is a force to be reckoned with! Lol. I know the camera is going to get better and for me, the call quality on this device is amazing. I think the "Edge" and the fingerprint reader are not worth ditching Sense and no external sdcard is a bummer for the wannabe iphone. With HTC Sense we do not need a whole lot of dev support, most of it is fine the way it is. But the support we do get from our great dev's turn the HTC into beasts. I know how great the HTC community is and the HTC phones so for me I am very happy with this beast. Now I cannot wait for the M10!
If my m8 didn't start giving me problems even after taking such great care of it, I would not have gotten the m9. M8 runs cooler with better battery life. I like the look and feel of the metal grey on the m8 better too. Oh well, root helps enough with heat and battery life to get me by until whatever HTC comes up with next ( if it's any good )

Just bought an M9, will see what it looks like. Been a HTC One since the start for years now. Don't want to bail if I don't have to. I'm a VZW customer currently, in that for a long time, so will see. Was hoping for a better camera and some better S-Off support without sending it to someone.
With the HTC stock price and beating they are taking...I guessing they might be coming up with something entirely new by the end of the year/early next year maybe?!?!?!
It is time for a platform/name/design change...and not like Samsung which is a direct Rip of iPhone and a poorer OS...haha..
Seems like the M9 is really dragging with support, and guys are jumping to the S6, but believe they are in the same boat. Plus, I really like Sense.
Guess we just need root/SU and a custom recovery anyway, and we got Viper and the likes and can move from there. S6 is still higher priced now if you buy cash like me, and there is even less support for that.
Just hoping for better camera support and VZW love DEV etc...

Yea man. Take a good look over the phone when you get it and then waste no time getting s-off lol
Have been lurking and learning an incredible amount from XDA which has prompted me to make my 1st post in a question.
I am shopping for a replacement for my HTC One M7- updated it to 7.1.1 RR ROM and works GREAT but the battery is toast and want to upgrade vice tearing the M7 apart. Have been looking at a number of offerings including the pending Samsung S8 as a replacement but it seems most of the major players have completely locked their hardware, especially the bootloader. While this is not terrible in the near-term, I would prefer the option to option to tweak even with my limited knowledge.
This brings me to the HTC 10. It seems HTC is more responsive to customization and supports the developers. Am I reading this wrong or is HTC as bad as the rest? My reason for updating my M7 to 7.1.1 is the lack of support due to obsolescence but have to admit, I enjoy tweaking stuff. I'd like to the option to custom flash whatever I get if I choose now and in the future to extend obsolescence.
Thoughts on the HTC 10 or other current offerings?
/r
Allen
I don't care about others because HTC still gives you your right of choice. You can still unlock your bootloader on the 10, via HtcDev, just like older HTC phones, and you can still s-off your phone via Sunshine. Or you can go ahead and skip HtcDev, and use sunshine for bootloader unlock and s-off at the same time. I was a little bit scared when I read all those posts about unlocking, but esentially, it's the same procedure as it always was for HTC phones. The only downside - Sunshine costs $25

Google Pixel is an option as well.
Or of course the OnePlus 3T. Essentially, for me, there are only 3 choices left for me when it comes to a new phone: HTC, Google Pixel and OnePlus. Why? Well, Huawei....never ever, there is always a lack of documentation, thus never any AOSP roms available. Sony? Quite nice phones, but too expensive, never convices me. Samsung? Of course, the S8 is great looking phone, but Samsung is not very developper friendly, that's a no-go for me. LG? I owned a G4, and had many problems, never again. ASUS? I have completely no experience about ASUS phones, but my girlfriend owns an ASUS laptop, and it's crap. Lenovo/Moto? Well ok, could be a choice. A friend owns the G4 Plus, and is very happy with it. But I haven't liked a Moto phone that much, that I would have considered to buy it. ZUK or ZTE? I guess not many developpers here on XDA own phones of these manufacters, so lack of support here on XDA, so would not get a a ZUK or ZTE phone (though the ZUK Z2 Pro and the ZTE Axon 7 look very impressive imo). So, what's left? The Google Pixel is a good phone, good dev support, but way too expensive imo. HTC is a bit....I don't know how to say it, but I think you can never be sure what to expect of HTC. For example, I only own the HTC 10 and had never a HTC device before. But I think the M7 and M8 were good phones (except of the cameras), the M9 was crap, the A9 looked ugly for me. In contrast to that, the 10 is a beast and I really love this phone! The HTC U Ultra is....nothing special. I mean, a glass back....really, HTC?! Then this "second" display, who needs that? A way too small battery as well. So this again didn't impress me. Now we have to wait for the HTC 11/HTC U or whatever. So, I'm a bit unsure about HTC. Last left is OnePlus. The 3T looks great, the dev support is exceptional, open source code, and the price is nearly unbeatable. Only downside I've heard of is the lack of service, but perhaps they can improve this in future. So, this is my opinion so far, I hope, this helps you a bit

Like the Pixel but at the price point, would have thought it would be waterproof. Since I am an AT&T servant, is the bootloader locked down with the phones purchased directly from Google?

My good man, you really summed up my thoughts!
I've had the G5, S7 Edge, and now have the Pixel and the HTC 10. I can tell you right now, you don't have to look any further than the 10. The Pixel is nice and also has a great feel, but still feels delicate compared to the 10. I personally like everything about this phone. Especially, especially, if you are interested in any type of modifications. There is more development/developers/XDA Members available for info/help than any of the others. Easy decision in my mind.

I just had to deal with this. No, phones purchased through google have unlocked bootloaders but devices purchased through Verizon or Best Buy had the bootloaders locked when they received the 7.1.1 update. And there is still no way to unlock it, so if you want to root, get the Google version.

Glad to hear :highfive:
Appreciate the input and confirmation on what I thought about HTC.
I admit I really like the looks S8 but after fighting (and quitting after frustrations) with unlocking the wife's S4 I am very weary of Samsung. I completely understand their thoughts but fundamentally disagree with it. Seems they would rather take the Apple business model. They want you locked in and I wouldn't be surprised if they try to develop an independent operating system altogether.
Not sure why I am not a fan of the Pixel- it is clean, fast and open. I guess it just looks too much like a iPhone; I'm not object to the iPhone (I carry one daily for work) but if that's what I wanted, I'd buy one.
Thanks again, perhaps I'll continue to nurse my old M7 along until the HTC 11 (or Ocean, or whatever) comes out or the Pixel 2...

That's what I figured. Since I'm on AT&T would go directly to the Play Store to purchase.... Thanks!

I bought my Pixel on eBay, brand new and use it with T-Mobile. Paid $475. The version I have right now is a Verizon Pixel, but for the similar price you should be able to find Google Edition.
