Apparently my phone has some bugs after rooting now, so I'd like to get rid of it!
I used Redpoint73's way of rooting. Can somebody please help me?!
Hey guys!
After a few years of iphone, i'm back to HTC again! Now I would like to root my M8, but to be honest, I don't really get it.
I see so many different options and ways to do this. The only thing I want is to have root access, I don't want a custon rom.
Who can help me with this and tell me how to do this.
Cheers& many thanks!
1) Unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.com
2) Install custom recovery
3) Download latest (v2.46) SuperSU zip and flash in recovery
There are a few different options to root once you do steps 1 and 2, but what I suggest above is the easiest IMO.
AFAIK, steps 1 and 2 above are mandatory on Lollipop. Previously, there was the option to (using sunshine s-off apk) temp root, s-off, and unlock the bootloader (and therefore bypass HTCDev.com). But I think the temp root was since patched by HTC, and you need to now root before sunshine.
Thank you very much! This is what I needed!

Can you please also tell me how to unroot?
Somehow my phone is acting up strange since I rooted it.
I see in supersu the option to unroot completely, does that work?
Thanks:good:
Rooting should not effect your device in any negative way. If you're having issues, it's likely something you did after rooting.
Well, the battery drained quite a bit. I deleted some rooted apps and that problem seems solved. But still my phone is acting strange. And now I also have some line on my screen. That has nothing to do with the root, but I want to send back my phone. So can you please tell me how to unroot my HTC?

I had my phone rooted and decided to unroot to get the OTA update which I did, but I tried rooting the phone again and I can't no longer root the phone.
Has any one experience this before?
Can I use unrevoked?
i dont know about unrevoked. if you do the factory reset and reroot using toasts method, there is a stock rom you can flash that has the OTA update biult in that will allow you to keep the root. all of the info is on the first page where toast describes the rooting process. hope this helps.
I guess there is no way to revoked so I can root my phone again. I like to learn if this is possible I guess, I will miss the tether app that I enjoy so much.
Please any one
I am still trying to root my evo after installing the OTA and have not been able to root it again.
Can anyone help if possible?
I will appreciate any suggestions at this point
Thanks in advance
how to unroot
i tried rooting my phone last night and it messed up, i think.. i know the root didnt work. how can i get my phone back to stock? I am new with androids and not sure what im really doin
You can use the unrevoked method if you are just mainly using it for the tether app.
http://unrevoked.com/m/
then click the image to install it.
un root
i just would like to get my phone back to stock, i did the unrevoked root, then tried to do a ROM, and the rom part did take all the way. I still have the ROM Manager app still on my phone.. should i delete that
Just use this and it will bring u back to stock - remember google search is your friend

Hi guys,
I rooted my phone a few days back after I bought it and then just wanted to see if I can unroot it following the How TOs on the forums and I used one of the stock roms for Virgin Mobile but I didn't pay attention to the build of it. As it turns out, it was 1.23.351.1, so I am now on 1.23.351.1 and UNROOTED. I found a guide how to downgrade but it seems like it only works for ROOTED phones. I can't get past the part where I have to enter SU to have SuperUser access and I assume it's because the phone is not rooted and SuperUser Permissions is not installed.

Any suggestions?
Thnx
Unfortunately I don't think its possible to root from anything 1.22+

Tried a factory reset (after backing up your SD card, ofc)?
Yeah, I just tried that but that doesn't change the ROM or anything
Maybe, I'll call HTC and complain about something to get a replacement, what can I complain about that will get me a replacement
Hello,
I was having a lot of trouble getting s-off for my Incredible 2, I guess because of my Windows 7 64bit operating system. I eventually got it done on a desktop with vista. however, that computer had no internet access so it didnt automatically install CWM. I havent had access to that computer for a while, so iwasnt able to flash CWM on my phone.
Today I tried doing the old temp root method, and once that was done, I installed superuser and busybox from the android market. now, without a new rom, CWM, new kernel, etc, my phone seems to be maintaining root access even after reboots.
Is there anything wrong with this picture? lol... When I was researching, it seemed that most places said you can't have root without installing a rom that has it. But it seems to be sticking without installing a rom. Is there any downsides to doing it this way?
Thank you anyone for your help, and I apologize if this is in the forums somewhere, but I did do a legitimate search and came up blank.
What method did you use and did you have froyo or ginger at the time?

Why posting in the wrong forum .
Thread moved.
i used the alpharev x method, starting with froyo, I've never had ginger on my phone.
sorry about that =/ i thought since it was root/rom related it might go in the other forum.
oh, and for the temp root portion after s-off, i used this method--

I think there may b a problem, similar to people who used z4 root on other phones just to gain access to root apps without caring about custom roms and such. I'm afraid u will try to get pushed new ota updates, since ur still running completely stock, now I don't think that will take away your s off because of the high h boot version you now have, but it will take away your root, and I don't know how big of a deal that would b to you, but I would install clockwork recovery to prevent this. My brother had Droid x with z4 root, he left his phone alone for a while, and he came back to have gingerbread, it updated by itself cause he was completely stock with no recovery, just had Su permissions through z4, so now he's screwed and can't get root, or couldn't last time I checked. I have not even read how to install clockwork manually, I did it with the alpharevx tool, so I don't know of this would be a prob or not if u got updated to the ota gingerbread, hope this helps and makes sense, it does to me but that's a different story lol.

lol!! it makes sense to me too.
I didn't know that phones could auto update with OTA's without user consent, pressing an "okay" button type of thing. Dammit. is there any point to having S-OFF without rooting?
installing CWM manually isn't exactly a problem, I just gotta wait til i get access to a non windows 7 64 bit computer again. hopefully that opportunity comes before an OTA is pushed to my phone.
Thank you for your input!

I couldn't see an advantage to just being s off, unless it allows u to use different sim cards, but I don't know, I'm no expert. The only thing I can think of is maybe it will leave the possibility of rooting open to u at a later time, but I don't know. I like my set up, its pretty much stock with some of the Verizon crap removed but I have root and can use rooted apps.

thanks again for the input. i'll probably end up with that debloated type of rom too.
It depends on what you want. I'd say no problem if all you want is the root access.
Hello!
I bought a brand new HTC One M9, GSM factory unlocked and I'm wondering if I should root it already or are there any downsides other than voiding the warranty? I had Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 before it and I had it rooted for 3 years so I'm used to having a rooted phone. On the HTC I'm not planing on changing the ROM (which I did constantly on my previous phone), I want to root my HTC so I can use Xposed and TWRP or CWM recovery (Still uncertain which is better).
So should I go for it or nah?!
Nah. And this is my reasoning..
I was in the same boat, I9300 to m9, rooted to non rooted. At the time it was known to be dodgy to root and mess with an m9 and i also figured I'd wait till i could afford s-off.
I postponed it for about a year and a bit, absolutely no issues, didn't need to root for any specific reason except i had root on the samsung and missed messing with xposed.
Bought a new car and decided to upgrade the stock radio to a fancy pants pioneer sph-da120 for a reasonable £350. Then i found out about ARunchained for screen mirroring my phone on the pioneer and needed root so i could control the phone from said pioneer radio. Ended up sending the radio back as it kept overheating. No longer need root to control phone from the car radio.
THAT is the only reason i rooted and s-off'd.
So, xposed doesn't work with s-off phones and I'm not going to s-on again as it'll be a waste of money.
Xposed can easily brick your m9 if you use the wrong mods.
No other reason to root.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still a noob when it comes to HTC, but do I have to pay extra for s-off? And can't I just root it and keep security on?
Yes you can. But be careful what you mess with as it's super easy to brick the m9.
Unlock the bootloader, flash twrp 2.9.0.1, flash supersu 2.65, install busybox.
You can only flash roms that you have the base for. Marshmallow roms can only be flashed over a marshmallow base. Lollipop over Lollipop. To change roms as you please and not worry about base roms is where s-off comes into it.
S-off is only available via an app called "sunshine" which you have to get from their homepage. You must be pre rooted and it costs $25/£18 via paypal or credit/debit card. Very easy to do.

Thank you! I'm not planing on changing ROMs, I used to do it on Samsung because, well, Samsung's stock ROM is **** lol
Anyway, I think I'm gonna wait a bit until I root it.
Is there a clear step by step guide on here to rooting and flashing?

I want to root my phone (obviously) and normally I wouldn't hesitate but now I am.
1) is it possible to encrypt my phone back after rooting?
2) do I lose OTA?
3) will things like android pay still work?
I used to know most of it, but it's been such a long time haha.
Yes ou can encrypt after root because when we first got root on 10 there was no data signal if it was not encrypted.
You don't loose ota but you do have a few things do to for ota to apply successfully. Just follow proper thread.
And I might be wrong but I don't think android pay works on any rooted phones.

all the decryption problems are a thing of the past now when using the latest recovery. twrp-3.0.2-5-pme.img 20.4M and yes android pay will work when using the proper super user to root, Version 2.74-2 with forcedencrypt
as for OTA, its still possible but youll have to install the stock recovery by using the RUU for you phone, or if someone has pulled it. and then taking the OTA with a unmodified system. really though with the amount of support this phone gets, OTA kinda pointless cause a nice dev will probably put the update up and none of those steps are needed, just patient waiting
