HTC Camera on Note 3??? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The title pretty much explains it, I moved from the M8 to the Note 3 a while ago and side loaded the blink feed launcher because i hated touch wiz so much. I'm looking to side load the HTC camera as well...Anyone know where to get it?? Thanks!

I'm using the ported HTC One M9 Camera on my Note 3. It takes great pics but can be buggy at times. It has been tested on AOSP and CM roms. I'm using CM12 nightly's my self so I can't comment as to if it is working on Touchwiz.
Might want to make a nandroid backup.
The link I originally used I believe was from this web page.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/mod-camera-aosp-htc-one-m9-camera-port.282063/
(edit) It looks like it might be a no go for Touchwiz roms. People are saying it crashes the phone.

Camera's aren't like typical apps. They're designed and built for a device's specific hardware, so trying to use one device's stock camera on an entirely different device is just pointless. Either use the camera that came with your device, or a universal one from the Play Store.

Cameras

I have a question. Does anyone know if you're able to run the stock camera from the Incredible 2 rom on CM7? If so, can someone running rooted stock Incredible 2 upload the APK? If not, can someone suggest a better camera than the CM7 camera?
Thanks

You cannot. The framework is different from an AOSP Rom vs a Sense Rom. Many people hate it because that vanilla camera In CM7 is ugly lol
Sent from my Rinky Dinky DInc2
I was afraid it was a sense based camera. I guess the only other option is dealing with MIUI or this ****ty CM7 camera. It's fine except I'm one that hates random flashes of different colors come across my screen so when the green flashes, it bugs the living hell out of me lol.
How are you liking the Sensation 2.0 rom and the dirty chad kernel? Also, your 225 radio you have installed, does it work better than the 622 radio? I seem to get no reception on mine and I live close to a tower lol.
Yea, that camera IS the reason I do not use AOSP roms

I love it, the smoothest so far for me. And the kernel is one he posted for another ROM, it just happens to work fine for this one. Charges faster and has profiles you can change as far as governors and voltage modifications.
The radio I'm running is still the stock radio by the way. I haven't messed with that yet. Haven't ran into anything major. I live out in the boonies and get 1X so I don't really care, I gots WiFi
Lol I live out in the boonies too and I get 0 bars and intermittent 3g/1x, thankfully I have wifi too lol
I'm thinking of flashing the stock radio. What would be your input as far as that goes? Yay or nay? lol

The radios vary depending on where you are located. I'm going to try one of the GB radios when I get around to it lol. Its pretty much play around with em and see which one works best over a day or two (per radio)

MIUI camera isn't too bad and there's a flashable version of it floating around here somewhere (compatible with CM7). My question would be around photo quality. Would a picture taken with a stock phone look the same as a photo taken with the MIUI camera (in 8mp mode) if printed out? It seems the sense camera is optimized for our resolution, but is overall picture quality any worse with MIUI? or does it have to do with the hardware?

It's an APK file so that means it is either installable or if that's not the case, you place it in /system/app and set the permission correctly
Permissions: can be set with root explorer
Owner - read, write, execute
Group - read
Others - read
The APK one should have working FFC capabilities. I've tried it out before starting this thread and it works great and looks very similar to the stock camera, except for the fact that when you take a picture, the screen flashes green which I can't stand. It's annoying but it does take pictures of the same quality as the AOSP camera. The other issue with the camera is that when the camera shows whatever it does, it is stretched, yet when you take the picture, it fixes itself and takes a normal picture. Quirky, but still works.

I'm worried that if I try to flash the stock radio that I would brick the phone because the stock radio is for Froyo FW and CM7 is Gingerbread. lol
Update: just flashed the stock incredible 2 radio and it doesn't seem to have done much of anything lol

This is the Miui camera I use with CM 7.
Since I couldn't really see any need of wanting to use the stock camera, I renamed the apk to "camera" and replaced the stock camera app in the system folder, changed the permissions/ownership and good to go. (I did make a .bak of the stock CM 7 for a just in case moment)
I like the Miui camera app. I didn't have FFC with it though. I do though now using the latest Miui Rom though...

I assume your referring to camera's? If so, I prefer the Miui camera over the CM 7 camera.
As far as rom preference, I like both, but currently I'm using Miui.
When taking photos using the Miui camera on the Miui rom, the only thing that flashes green is just the viewfinder box. The actual screen just goes black.
I'd have to flash back to CM 7 to see if the camera flashes the screen green or not. I don't remember now if it did or didn't. I don't think it did, but I don't want to say that it didn't without checking...
I flashed MIUI earlier and it seemed nice, a little different than what I'm used to in CM7, but what I did notice that I absolutely dislike is that 1) I tried to restore back to CM7 and when going through the ROM manager, it said that my phone was essentially not rooted anymore (more specifically that superuser permissions wasn't giving ROM manager the permissions and I went into SU and checked and it was installed, updated, and was supposed to be giving permissions where it needed to be), and 2) Whenever you drag an icon off the screen to remove the icon, it only wants to uninstall the app. Other than that, it seems like a decent ROM.
Yup, the last couple of updates to Miui has had to have the permissions set on SU. Don't know what happened that it has to be that way. It didn't used to be that way.
I also don't care to much for the Miui Launcher, and it's unremovable apps (you can make folders though, and place the apps in there, but still not quite what I like). To Iphone for me... I use the Adw ex launcher (same that I use on CM 7)
Really, my version of Cm 7 and Miui are almost twins... Basically the only diff is in the menus and a few cosmetics.
CM 7 on the left, Miui on the right...
Holy ****! Finally someone else that has this same problem!

Camera app - old vs ics new

Hi guys
I originally asked this in the Q&A section a week ago, but I wasn't sure if it belong here in the apps section instead. Since I didn't get any replies, I'm thinking maybe I should have posted it here to begin with. I hope someone in this section might be able to help.
If I'm not supposed to put this in two areas, I apologize. I'm not too forum saavy; just looking for help for my issue.
Thanks a lot guys
--- Original post ---
Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm not sure if this should be here in Q&A or in the App section but here goes.
I really love my Epic 4G. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was still running Dk28 with midNIGHT rom 3.1. Then I finally switched over to the wonderful CM9 Beta1. I am loving it so far, but there's one thing that bothers me. The camera.
One of the things I used to use on the camera very frequently was the panorama/wide shot function. I really hate the sweep panorama of the ICS camera because with the crafts I make, it's just horrible and it's always distorted because sweeping and me don't get along. The camera that was on my leaked Froyo had the feature where I would click the first picture, and while moving to the side a green box would guide me and then automatically take the next shot when it lined up, then I'd move again and it would take the next shot. It would then put the images together for me.
I really need that feature back. Is there a way that I can install that camera app back onto my phone in addition to the updated ICS camera? I really like the smoothness and speed of the ICS camera for normal picture taking.
I can pull the camera.apk from my original install, but as I said, I don't want to overwrite the ICS one, which I fear because they have the same name and I don't know if renaming it will make the difference. I want both. If someone could guide me in getting both on my phone, that would be great. I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know how to do it. I've read a lot on these boards so I figure if anyone knows how to help, the great minds here do!
I hope I've explained this ok. If I'm not clear, please let me know. Thanks much!
p.s. I've tried a number of camera apps from Play. I don't like the wide shot ones where it has a ghost image for you to line it up manually either, so please don't suggest that.
I'd love to see the old TW camera on CM9. The ported TW apps thread a couple posts down mentions this, but i haven't seen anyone post a successfully working version yet.
Hopefully someone who knows what they're doing can figure it out for us. *crosses fingers*
Wishlist? Anyone?
Lol....I was running the peoples rom last week and was wondering the opposite. If there was a way to put the ics camera on that tw rom. That's an awesome rom and has the tw camera (obviously), but maybe just flash that and try it for a while?
On a side note.....Not sure if its just me, or does does the ics camera take much better (normal) pictures, even when zooming in quite a bit? I've been wondering if something was done in ics to better utilize the camera hardware.

I find the ICS camera to be really nice for just normal pics. Definitely faster and does seem to be on the clearer side. But I'm really needing that old auto panorama/wide shot feature. (non sweeping motion or ghost line up).

[Q] One x usb mass storage and slow motion camera???

Hi all.
I was wondering if there is anyway to get the best of both worlds with my one x?? I need usb mass storage mode at work for using the phone as a usb drive to transfer files as and when i need them. Also use it at home. To achieve this i flashed the cm10.1 4.2.2 rom. Its a nice rom and I was a happy bunny to get usb mass storage back up and running. Only issue is that I (and my kids) used the slow motion camera on video recording quite a lot and its now gone.
My question is: Can I have both of these with a different rom? Can I flash a camera apk seperately to get the slow motion back? I have searched and searched on through the forums but its either one or the other. I love the one x but im up for contract renewal next month so it i cant get what I want out of this phone im going to get a different one. My wifes galaxy s 3 can do it all so might go back to samsung but I liked the quality of htc slightly better than s3.
Any help will be most appreciated.
Cheers steve

Sorry but those mods won't work on cm ROMs.

Seek the market for 3rd party camera apps that come with slow mo video.

I've had a look. Can't find any decent ones. Might have to just wait and hope cm gets it. Would love to start playing with android roms and start developing but haven't got enough time to learn it. That way I could help sort out my issue and mauve help the community also.
Might start looking at upgrades for now. I tried the sense 4.5 camera mod for one x but it did nothing. Think it's not for cm Rom. Just aosp 4.2.2

Note 2 - a few annoyances (coming from a Nexus)

I only just recently got my Note II and it has got ARHD on it, which I installed because it's a rom based on samsung software with no comptability issues and great battery life.
I also have a Galaxy Nexus and I noticed a few "problems" the Note 2 has and the older Nexus doesn't:
the browser on the Note 2 looks okay but the pointer precision is just very bad. To give an example: if you swipe your finger up or down vertically for a few centimeters, and then you start sliding diagonally (without having lifted off your finger off the screen in the meanwhile), it will only continue to keep scrolling vertically, it won't "follow" your left or right (or diagonal) movement. When you lift off your finger from the screen, retouch it and then scroll diagonal right away it will follow the movement. I find this very annoying, it prevents me of having a smooth browsing experience. My older Nexus with stock android 4.2.2 and stock browser is smooth as butter and follows my swiping movements 1 to 1..
I tested Dolphin browser, Maxthon.. all still bad pointer precision.. Chrome seems to be the least bad of all the browsers, but then on the other hand I find it very choppy.
PS. I already tried an AOSP/CM rom (Sentinel ROM), and there the browser was smooth, yet, non-touchwiz roms are not bugfree and the battery life is nowhere as good as with a samsung based rom.. And especially that last factor is really important to me. (Unless anyone can advise me a bugfree AOSP rom with batterylife that is as good as a samsung based rom).
SOLVED, SOLUTION IN POST #15
Then something else that annoys me quite a bit: when the screen is off and I press the wakebutton, it takes like 1 to 2 seconds until it actually wakes.. I've read I'm not the only one with this problem but I find it kind of unacceptable for a quad core phone with 2GB of ram.. Same problem when you are in an application and you press the homebutton to go to the homescreen, it sometimes takes like a second or more too.. Once again, stuff like that on my simple dual core nexus with half the amount of ram doesn't happen.
UNDERLINED PART SOLVED, SOLUTION IN POST #3 (thanks Kremata)
Then the good stuff has to be said too: homescreen-scrolling is insanely smooth, watching videos is awesome, the camera is great (so is the samsung camera app) and not to forget, the battery life is a revelation to me, I get through the day easily with hardcore use of the phone (that cannot be said of my old Nexus..).
I really like the Note II, but these few problems really crash the party for me.. Also I never thought I'd say it as a Nexus-fan but I generally find Touchwiz pretty cool and suiting on the Note 2.. So I'd prefer to stay on a samsung based rom like ARHD if possible.
Hope there's some experts here who can give me advise on how to handle these little problems.
For the record, I managed installing the AOSP browser, and the bug is still there. So it must be rom/kernel related, not app-related..
The HOME button problem is not a bug. It is because you have set your S-voice to open by double pressing the Home button. So the lag comes from TW waiting for a second press before doing anything.
Just uncheck "Open via the Home Key" in S-voice setting.
For the browser thing I don't know. I never felt it was a problem for me.

One problem solved already, thanks for that!
I placed a video of the pointing precision problem on youtube. Btw I checked if the touchscreen is ok by using "show touches", and it followed my touches 100% perfectly, so it's not the phone, it's definitely some software problem..
This is the video
Could anyone with a samsung-based rom try to reproduce the above problem and see if it happens or not ? If not, could you tell me what rom + kernel you are using, would be much appreciated..
I repeat that when I tried an AOSP rom on my Note II, this issue did not happen.
I'm on DLL4 and before this was on 4.1.1 and do not have this issue.

Stock Android?

Long shot here, but is there a stock android either Lollipop or Marshmallow (way unlikely) that I can flash to this device once it is S-Off?
Nope. Closest you would get would be CM, but the camera is not fully functional yet and I don't know if it supports advanced calling on Verizon either.

Neo, thanks for pointing that out. However, I was referring to stock android along the lines on what you would find on Nexus Devices. On my One M8, I was able to flash stock android like was found on the google play edition. I couldn't quite tell whether the link you posted when I first browsed it yesterday was bone stock, or was still customized by HTC (HTC dialer, HTC help, HTC clock, etc).

Oh, so you're looking for a form of AOSP then ie: vanilla android os with no sense gui or other gui.
As the previous member stated, we have it, we can build it, but for now the camera is broken and wake gestures don't look to be working. Everything else appears to work ok. Actually, CM recently just pushed some changes to the device which might fix camera. I or flyhalf may put a build together and try it out soon.
The link I posted just now is the stock factory shipped sense rom (most updated).
Thanks Neo for your effort in attempting to put that together, I look forward to it!

Neo,
Sorry to revive this relatively old thread. CM has nightlies for the GSM M9 (himaul). From the bits and pieces that I've found around XDA and the web in general, it seems like it's working well with the potential exception of some bluetooth issues (which I don't really care all that much about right now). It's not built to run on the Verizon m9 though.
I know there's CandyRom, which is based on CM, but I'm looking for as close to AOSP as possible. Sense is actually okay, but I don't want any of the VZ specific stuff that's found on the stock ROMS I've seen. I know I can disable >>most<< of it, but definitely not all.
Is there general guidance out there on how to build CM from the himaul source, but make it compatible with the m9 himawl (verizon)? Any other suggestions for vanilla-ish ROMs?
The m8 version was compatible with all and worked well. Don't know why the m9 version isn't Verizon compatible (yet?).
Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving.
