If I uninstall TVMC and install KODI can I restore all addons and repos? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right now I have TVMC on my fire tv. I would like to install KODI on it instead of the configured TVMC
Can I just backup my addons/settings/ uninstall TVMC, install kodi then restore my addons and every thing so that I will have everything I had before even the repos?
Also what are the advantages of kodi vs TVMC?

Yes. Download the backup addon. Backup -> uninstall TVMC -> install Kodi -> reinstall the backup addon -> restore.

I always do it the easy way, copy the addons folder and the userdata folder to a different directory. Uninstall, then install another build, open once, then overwrite the addons and userdata folders with the ones I copied from the last build. Also, I highly recommend SPMC on the Fire TV, cause its the only variant of Kodi that I can find to play all streams smoothly. I kept getting streams that were buggy/jittery and never played smooth, so I decided to try SPMC and have not had one problem since. The difference in playing streams was instantly noticable from using Kodi to using SPMC.

[Q] Copy one FTV to Another, possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to Copy over my flash drive from one FireTV to another one. I am buying 2 more for my house, have my first one set up perfectly with all the side loaded apps, XBMC and all of its settings. For XBMC I do have XBMC Backup - it doesn't remember a few things when I use the backup but it gets it mostly right. But loading all of this took me 1-2 hours.
Just wondering if there is an easier way to get my setup onto the other 2 new boxes.
Might be possible to do what you're trying to do with Titanium Backup, I know it runs on the FTV but I haven't used it for backing anything up yet.

1.) Download and sideload SSH Daemon http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=web.oss.sshsftpDaemon on your configured amazon fire tv box
2.) run ftp client and connect to fire tv, using IP
3.) navigate in the android folder and copy the xbmc folder (SPMC com.semperpax.spmc, XBMC org.xbmc.xbmc) to your computer
4.) sideload SSH daemon on the new fire tv, install the same xbmc or spmc version that is one your first amazon fire tv
5.) use ftp client to connect to the new fire tv box and copy the folder from step 3 into the android folder of the new box.

He wants to backup everything, that could be slow as hell to do over again for every app he has. There are also much easier ways to backup XBMC settings. Titanium Backup should be able to let him backup/restore all his apps and their respective settings at one time.

Thank you! I will try Titanium Backup and let you know how it goes. Thanks for responding!
Hi - did you manage to do this with titanium?
I'm looking at doing this myself also. I've got one FTV set up exactly how did like it and want to copy apk's and all xbmc settings in one.

[Q] Web interfaces for Kodi

I've unistalled Kodi by mistake. I've been able to reinstall it and restore my settings but I don't remember how to install web interfaces on it? When I select "Get more" in the webserver part I get empty list of web interfaces. I was somehow using AWXi before, but can't install it now (I tried installing from zip but it got me "wrong structure" error). I am using kodi nightlies.

Maybe they are considered broken in the nightly builds. Broken addons are filtered out of Kodi 14. If you install a repo and it has broken addons it will no longer show the broken addons in the list of addons, cause it now hides them so that you can only see working addons. My advice would be to manually install the addon. Meaning to manually put the addon folder inside the XBMC folder. I am using SPMC and they show up so they are not considered broken on my build. If you go to settings/addons/get addons/all addons/web servers and they are not listed, they are probably flagged as broken in your build. If they are not listed maybe you should think about moving to a stable release of KODI, cause nightly builds are not supposed to be used as your daily build and they even tell you on their site that they are for testing only. I recommend SPMC 14.1, cause its the only build of XBMC that I can get to play all streams smoothly. It seemed like every other version of XBMC I tried would play some files smoothly, but not all, depending on the fie type. I stopped using nightly builds of any program when I realized they were more of a headache than stable builds.
Thanks. I will try adding them manually.
Latest nightlies have rewinding for network sources fixed which made up for the lack of web services for me though, so I will stick to them for now even if the web interface won't work. (PS. For me Kodi plays smoothly everything I throw at it on FIre TV apart from HEVC of course, if you have trouble check if the hardware decoding works - for me it stopped once and I had to reboot the device for it to start working again).

Updating to Kodi is easy just google: kodi android , download the APK. and install it using ADBFIRE and bam. You are updated to kodi 14.1.
About updates it's up to you no one knows.
thanks very much . if i want to upgrade to kodi , do i have to uninstall the version thats already on the AFTV or will the new install overwrite xbmc ? thanks

Make sure you backup your addons and userdata folder before you upgrade. If you are comfortable doing that, nuke your current XBMC app and install KODI as a clean install and push your backed up folders back to your FTV. Irrespective if you do that or run adb install with "-r" option (not sure with different folder structure of KODI from XBMC, you might have to manually clean your old install of XBMC), it might be in your interest to get familiar with backup/restore of KODI for future reference. You can use adb pull or ES Explorer or probably a gazillion other options to pull/push folder to FTV. Maybe ADBFire has it as well, I don't use that app.

Download the Xfinity repo source (Google it), then install the Sdcard Usb wizard, make a default location for your backup then launch the addon, pick full backup, & if you send the backup to your stick then follow the instructions again, now push the backgrounds, you now have it working on your stick. Now download the Community Portal source (Google it), go into settings/maintenance & select "Turn to Special", now press that thanks button on Xda
Note
after you install if it don't work properly first time do reinstall the full backup again cause sometimes it takes 2 try )
Great thanks!!! I will try it later today.

Banging my head--WHY is AFTV automatically moving data?

I'm really confused so I'll try to provide details I can recall...
My AFTV gen 1 with OS5 kodi install was a little glitchy so eventually wound up doing a clean install.
This came AFTER MANY attempts to preserve my data.
The last 2 times I tried this I completely wiped every bit of kodi data I had on internal and USB. I installed kodi Jarvis.
The 1st time I scanned sources and it populated fine. But when I exit kodi then relaunch it I'm greeted with what looks like a blank install!
To sum up, it appears like when I exit Kodi it sends Kodi data to my usb BUT there are no settings in place to actually read that data so Kodi is blank.
Last time I made certain to remove everything. Then I took my sources.xml from my other aftv (same setup) and moved it to the problem aftv. I start up kodi, all seems fine--my movies and TV shows are there. I exit and POOF! Its gone again. If I delete my kodi data from usb drive Kodi works again but when I exit it repeats the cycle.
I'm stumped. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
***I think the issue would be resolved if someone could just tell me why data keeps exporting to my usb drive. I keep deleting it but Kodi winds up back on my usb once I exit.

This took 5 seconds on google.
Backing up Kodi is as simple as copying over the userdata folder, btw. If you don't know how to copy files, learn to use adb and get to know the filestructure of kodi a bit better using a file explorer on the Fire TV. Or just use a File explorer and copy the userdata folder to a networkdrive (Total commandar f.e. has a lan plugin), or a usb stick, or... If you don't know what a folder is... Try to learn that as well...

I appreciate the help but Ive been using Kodi since Frodo and aftv gen 1 since June 2014. Ive been through numerous kodi versions and never has the aftv just defaulted to moving all the data to usb...
In fact Im pretty sure it doesn't because theres methods available specifically for aftv to properly move data to usb.
I have to take a closer look at my other aftv. Its running the same kodi version.
***Btw my bandaid was to remove my usb stick and copy sources.xml from my other aftv. It works fine but of course not having external storage isnt a good option.
