[Q] [Idea] SW2 Apps working on android wear (SWR50 in particular) - Sony Smartwatch 3

Literally the title. Is it possible to run SW2 Apps on android wear watches?

I don't think so sony's other watches used their own OS I think but now this watch is using android wear. I could be wrong but I think you would have an extremely hard time because of the framework differences.

Exactly. Impossibru. Android Wear uses APK's, while the SW1/2 use Sony's OS

Yeah, to the best of my knowledge SW2 uses a real time OS, more akin to the Pebble than Android Wear which runs a Linux kernel; hence incompatibility.

Google risks OEM wrath for unified Android UI plan

Conflicts of interest with Android supporters helped kill Google's Nexus One project, but that is not stopping the search giant embarking on another bid to keep Apple-style control of the Android platform. Google is reported to be planning a unified user interface that will be imposed across Android products, ending the fragmentation that dogs the system, but also restricting partners' development of their own user experiences.
Full story HERE
if the UI makeover is any good then I wont mind but I do hope they dont make it harder on HTC to make sense for gingerbread as I quite like Sense UI.
I'm not that fussed on sense to be honest. I could take it or leave it.
I just hope that Google don't start to push people away by trying to monopolise everything. I can't imagine that HTC would be happy if they were having their lives made difficult by Google.
HTC have made an excellent phone in the desire, and if things like this make them think again about a new release using Android then it can only be bad for all of us.
True.
Android is open source so Google cant ban anyone from making thier own UIs so in that sense should be fine. if they do start to monopolise then yeah I will get worried as thats going the apple way.
This depends on the implementation if we (at least I) should take it as good or bad.
Good: google unifies the UI but also allows others (developers) to make their own UI and doesn't make hard the implementation of personal UI. In the end, after Froyo, google needs a nice and unified UI. Froyo brings many things which are needed, now the only thing lacking is nice and unified UI.
Bad: google unifies the UI and doesn't allow nobody to make their own UI. Then they will become like apple and I will personally refuse to purchase anything that has to do with them. To speak the truth, I chose the Android (Desire) device only because of Android openness. If someone takes that away from me, I will take my 500 euro from them. Simple as that. That is the least I can do.
I know this sounds terrible but to be honest I have no problems with Google semi 'monopolising' Android. Unity is so important for a mobile OS IMO. Look how far Apple has got with theirs.
Unlike Apple however, I trust Google not to go too far with it all...
If the UI is good, I dont mind.
I hate everytime Google released a new version of Android and I have to WAIT to get it.
Kill that fragmentation ... please ... please Google?
Whether we like it or not, it seems this is the direction that all OS's (i.e. Microsoft WP7) seem to be going in although Google has under gone more radical changes with it's new versions due to being so new and having developed so fast. Despite what that article above said Microsoft with WP7 are stopping (having stopped development of WM 6.5) OEM's from adding custom UI's so that they can roll out OS updates without OEM's getting in the way or delaying them. This means they can have uniformed releases of OS updates across the whole platform and them not be device dependant.
It's not a bad idea as long as they do not completely lock it down and still allow 3rd party enhancements to be added to the core OS with custom launchers and widgets IMO, as we don't all want or need to have our devices all looking exactly the same. But if it means new OS updates reach users faster as long as the hardware is capable that has to be good for both us the users and Android or any of these OS's.
Also remember Google has said after Gingerbread their will be a slow down of core changes to the OS as it just won't be so necessary as it starts to mature and should only require minor tweaks or fixes from then on. That's not saying development will cease just that it won't need to be so rapid and if by then there are a minimum spec being used with less custom UI's any new features should be easier and faster to apply to all the devices.

i think that what should be done is a unified UI by google which many users like but it will be awsome if their way of customizing is on top of the main core files and can be customized bu 3rd parties too. so there will be faster updates and the possibility of customizing it. something like a folder with the customizations that will be used instead of the system defaults......
Yes....What should I say????......
If(google==apple)
cout<<"**** THEM BOTH";
else
cout<<"Long live google!!";
That has to do it!(c++ style comment)

Android 4.0 Kernel Help

Hi, I'm fairly new to android and spend most of my time writing applications rather then getting involved with the kernel.
I've been asked by my manager to see if its possible to have a version of android installed with limited functionality.
basically taking things like the locations and other commercial specific services, but keeping all the core things that android needs to simply run, and keeping most of the wifi/network capabilities.
This is going to be done on Android 4.0 on a tablet, which tablet has yet to be decided.
If anyone is able to give me some advice of where i should be looking and what i need to do, i would be very grateful.
thanks,
to be or not to be

find a tablet with kernel sources released/published by manufacturer also you need Android sources (AOSP) now recompile disabling some features/ options in theory it seems to be easy this is your starting point in my opinion
Thanks ruscan,
the starting point is appreciated, as before I had little clue to how to go about this.

Adroid Wear 1.5 vs 2.0

Hey guys,
My Huawei Watch arrived a few days ago so I'm pretty new to this community
I have already unlocked my bootloader, install TWRP and so on but I have a problem with the ROM, not a problem but a hesitancy about which version I want to use.
I don't like Android wear 2.0 because does not longer the swipe actions and you have to use the hardware button for navigating from one menu to other, although the ability to reply messages with a keyboard is a really valuable option for me.
Also, Android wear 2.0 is laggier than 1.5 (for me at least) but the menus look cooler too.
So, my question is; Can a keyboard be enabled on Android wear 1.5 or can the swipes/gestures be enabled on Android wear 2.0?
Thank you in advance.
I've looked into it and i believe the only way to use the built in keyboard is 2.0. 1.5 was not built to use a keyboard.
For me personally the keyboard is a must, and 1.5 imo is worthless without the ability to responded to texts without speaking.
you can have a keybored to reply messages in 1.5 using messages for wear paid/demo app but it is limited
Not moving to 2.0 means you're permanently locked in "yesterday". That said, 2.0 is still in preview.

Great battery life
Tried this ROM today. Battery friendly like the JDC. Only Camera interface looks too old-school to my liking. And using the Camera toggles the maximum brightness which could be inconvenient in darkest environment.
Other than that, Weather location could also be improved as it detects my neighbour town instead of my own. Besides these 2 issues, all other pro/cons are quite the same to other 7.1.2 ROMs out there.
Google play support present?

If I use this Rom it's because I don't want to use Google Play Store anymore. So I don't even check it. =)
Does this use microg?
If not, is the location provider better than the mozilla location provider in microg?

Uses original market "Apps". And maby downloaded cool store - aurora store.
Why did you choose android 7.1 instead of using 8.1 or even better 9.* ?
I appreciate the works focused on privacy and in contrast with google policy, but I don't understand why you based the software on an old version of android(Lineage).

this is planned, but a little later.
Nice one, but it will be great if you'll add OMS support to the firmware for Substratum use.
Just using this rom for 2 day and there is (many) bug and the way it looks (ui) just not something like any other android rom here(more like apple). But i really like the concept and i hope it will update the android version till at least 9 and maybe more.
If there is more people interested in this rom maybe the developer will update this rom faster :fingers-crossed:
Is much to work. Rom is good, but have many bugs. I will try it later, when it will work without bugs.
As for efficiency, I can say that it is the fastest and most stable. I tried all the existing rums. But as I said, there is still a lot of work to be done on this rum. It's worth investing in. I am sure that many will pass on this rum. Reminds me of Iphone 4)) microg often shuts down. Many applications are not downloaded from Apps, I had to search for them from the browser (WhatsApp, youtube, etc.) Many applications generally do not exist, which I again downloaded from the browser. It would be useful a built-in call recorder, it would be good for gmail account to be able to connect it to the existing mail application. I have a lot of information there, which I would not want to give up. The camera app should be updated. So is the Weather app. But as a very fast, smooth and stable core. Well done for that.

[ROOTED] Android 11; how to install older version of google maps?

rooted/magisk samsung S21+ ...stock rom
stock version of google maps removed with titanium backup.
trying to install many different old versions (in the 9.x and 10.x range) just says 'app not installed' ...what the hell is going on here?
Android 11 scoped storage perhaps.
Try coping it off another device running on R with ApkExport then transfer it to the victim device.
11 just sucks elephant balls bad
scoped storage? sounds like got some searching to do.. i also have a rooted LG V30 that i could maybe grab stuff off of. thatd be my only other play to make though..

You're stuck with scoped storage with/after Android 11. It's not fully active on Android 10, at least with older apps. My old copy of WPS office app runs fine on Q. I will continue to test my N10+/Q vs my N10+/PIE variant to see it's effects if any. So far it hasn't raised its ugly head on the Q variant, but I have played with it more then a few hours.
If you could use a rom version of Q or Pie that be best.
Workarounds for it on 11 exist to some extent but without apps coded well with special permissions it will make them useless. It's already causing issues with photo apps (even on Pixels), file explorer apps, any apps that needs access to large user databases.
Do a Google search for scoped storage sucks.
Let me know how Android 11 works for you, good or bad.
Typical battery life on my Pie variant are as follows with a 4300 mAh battery:
7-12%@hrSOT typically 8% for browser and 11% for web vids.
>.5%@hr with tap on AOD at night with cell/internet not disabled.
The Q variant seems to be better or similar but haven't ran it long enough to really know for sure. It's running cool though and not using excessive CPU cycles. Both are optimized almost the same including a package disabler. Q seems a bit snappier, but it's a fresh load vs a 1.5year old load with heavy use.
crap. that kinda sucks. honestly the battery life on my phone is doing well, granted i dont have much on it and the heaviest use it sees is watching youtube (vanced of course). maybe its time to look around for a good android 10 rom, eh..

If you can find a good Android 10 rom, flash it, not losing hardware functionality. That's a tall order. The cam and display firmware will likely be the most troublesome aspects as the stock rom was built on Android 11.
After you clean up the bloatware Samsung usually builds good stock roms. Problem is Google only gives so much leeway to vendors modifying whatever base Android version it's running on.
Android 11 is a mess, Samsung had limited options and couldn't clean it up completely without disabling major "improvements" that are core elements of that OS.
The base Android OS is off the rails, dragging down Samsung with it.
