[Q] Nexus 7 touch Problem. - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I was recently given a Nexus 7, I am interested in repairing it but need a little help in knowing exactly what part(s) i need to replace. I have little to no experience with cellphones/tablets
The nexus 7 was given 2 me with 2 problems.
1. the USB no longer charged so i replaced the USB/audio mini jack component inside and it is now charging.
Upon powering the device on I can see there is a crack down the center of the screen.
2. One side of the crack the screens touch sensor responds. on the other side of the crack there is no response to touch. or at least seems to think i am pressing in the same location no matter where i am pressing.
the display picture is still sharp and clear, So i am assuming i need a new digitizer?

You will need a new digitizer and also make sure to get some Aluminum foil

[Q] Huge crack across screen!Need some advice.

Dropped my phone on asphalt today and got a big hairline crack across the screen . (Attached pics)
It really hurts cause i always baby this phone and just the rush to get to work and in my car, completely missed my pocket.
The screen is still responsive to touch and seems to be working normal thank god the lcd screen wasnt damaged and the digitizer didn't shatter.
Got a few questions t
1) just wanted to clarify that the digitizer lies ontop the LCD screen?
2) and that is all that needs replacing?(from damage seen in the pics)
3) also mine is branded just HTC(no carrier, so it's international GSM version?)
4) would it matter if i bought a replacement digitizer meant for the at&t version or not?
5) should be getting a one x that had some water damage and is no longer working. would the digitizer from this phone be a viable option for me to use as a replacement or should i just order the part online.( I really want it replaced fast and if i have to order the replacement it will take about a week to 2 weeks to arrive in my country
so apparently i can't attach any urls until i make 10 posts or i'd show u guys the part i wanted to order but its basically just a screen digitizer from ebay with tools needed for about $17.86.(is that cheap, good or expensive price considering the item + tools)
can you guys please search for it on ebay?the title of the post/part is Touch Screen Digitizer Glass Lens Replacement For HTC One X S720 + Free Tools
the link above is the item i'm looking to order for replacement. is it the right part i'm looking at?and would that be all i need or is there anything else i should add?also quality wise would it be top pick or are there any better options available?
Attached some pics also.Advice would be greatly appreciated.
You are unlikely to be able to separate the digitizer and lcd without damaging the LCD.
A water damaged phone may have a water damaged screen.
Search one of the other broken screen threads for more information.
I've replaced several screens on captivate.easiest way is get replacement(LCD+digetizer) from ebay,Google procedure.watch or read as many times as needed to feel confident to take apart phone.the hardest part is seperating LCD from phone(they use adhesive to secure LCD to phone).I used razor to carefully cut adhesive.
Most components are plug&play.just follow guide completely,u should be fine.
My LCD was $85 on ebay.good luck.

[Q] Screen Repair - Motherboard doesn't fit right

It looks like I should have done a little more research!
I have a Sprint Galaxy S3 and I dropped it on pavement and cracked a little bit of the corner of my screen. This is where I should have said "okay, the touch screen works, just don't mess with it any more because you know how this ends."
But I didn't... I got replacement glass first and totally screwed up that repair and left the phone in worse shape than it started. Now with the LCD and digitizer it became a slightly more expensive repair but still something I thought I could handle.
So I bought a whole LCD assembly off ebay and installed it with few problems. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 R530 Metro LCD Screen Touch Digitizer Frame. I stripped my phone down, moved all of the parts to the new frame and started to install the motherboard. Then's when my problems begin...
The new frame has a slightly different placement of the motherboard screw and doesn't seem to fit quite right in line with the power button. Everything else is fine and fits just right, it's just that something isn't fitting quite right. Any suggestions?
Also, my home button doesn't work any more (that's the only thing, though, so it's still a vaguely successful repair).
It sounds like I should have done some more research and I would have found that a black frame can't possibly work fully for a Sprint phone because Sprint S3s are unique for whatever reason. I'm just hoping maybe someone has a solution? A part of the frame to file down or other suggestion?
At this point I would suggest taking it somewhere to be repaired properly. Especially if you are not comfortable with the process.

[Q] Everything but the display works - Nexus 7 2013

This guy has the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/help/nexus-7-screen-replacement-black-screen-t2811453
Hello, Everybody! One day I took my 2013 Nexus 7 on a walk and fell, resulting in a large crack across the screen. Half of the display was not touch-responsive. Recently, I obtained a digitizer replacement, pulled the tablet apart, and replaced it. I later found that I had removed a layer of black glass which appeared to be vital. Today I received a screen + digitizer assembly that contained the black glass. After removing many screws, I replaced the screen. After waiting about thirty minutes, I attempted to turn it on. At first, the screen stayed black. When I connected it to a computer and tried again, the speaker made a notification sound.
The tablet is running Android, but the screen is blank.
Thanks,
Thomas (D3C0D3)
You can confirm the tablet had life? As in when you "turned it on" and connected to your computer via USB, did you computer recognise it?
The Digitiser (top glass layer) when cracked over the screen will make the touch fail, my nexus had a chipped digi on the bottom which spread to the middle... The LCD however was fine.
When I replaced the Digitiser by heating it off the frame and swapping over. My repair went fine and my nexus 7 flo is good as new.
In short, if you are saying you have power and sound but no display; your LCD is either (a): Loose, I do believe it is the orange coloured ribbon cable. Or (b): Damaged, either by yourself when fitting or while it was in transit.
If it is B; simply buy a replacement again.. Make sure you do the entire repair on a flat surface, heat the glue and pry carefully with a tool such as an iSesimo; as to keep your frame intact.. Replace the glue or adhesive tape THOROUGHLY as to ensure the new digitiser stays attached to the frame, as it is only stuck by what you put on.
The LCD is very fragile, be careful.

[q] please help screen needs replace

Hey All.
Been using nexus 7 2013 since last 2 years. My nephew dropped it and the screen cracked from the side. The device is working fine. The touch doesn't work at the the area of the cracks on the top right, and a few other places. But works everywhere else on the screen. My question is what has to be replaced, the digitizer or the entire LCD. My personal diagnoses is only the upper glass needs to be replaced. Please advice further!
Digitizer is for $15 and the whole thing is for $50. What has to be replaced and how to find out?
Please see the pictures and help me please
Unless you have a way of separating the glass/digitizer from the actual lcd you need the whole assembly. It's all glued together you can't just lift off the glass.

You'd be much better off replacing the whole assembly. Separating the digitizer from the lcd can be done, but the problem is with locating a digitizer that works. I've tried this for about 5 times, and each time I had to return the digitizer to the vendor.
Also, since the bezel (frame) is designed so the digitizer back always touches the lcd surface (they are glued together on the original assembly), you'll have those strange "rainbow" spots on them when the device is turned off.
Not to mention that if you use an adhesive that's too thin, there's a chance the digitizer might be bent, not enough to crack it, but enough to distort touch sensitivity, resulting in some spots being unresponsive. In short, too much of a hassle for a 30-buck saving.

No Display after dropping phone

Hi,
Unfortunately for me i dropped my phone and cracked my tempered glass in several places. gladly the screen underneath was perfectly fine after drop however, it has developed a fault as the screen won't turn on at all. I tried turning it off and restarting and although i can hear the boot up logo sound i see no picture at all. i can receive calls but cannot answer due to screen not displaying.
The screen had four main pressure cracks.... one is top left, one on the ear speaker, one bottom middle and one bottom left of phone. hopefully you can see it in picture.
Can you give advice on what to try or do to resolve this? will i need a new screen or disassemble to see what the issue is?
I've only had the phone for 2/3 months at most
Thanks in advance
looks like i will answer my own question....
i bought a replacement lcd & digitiser, one complete unit and swapped the necessary components over to new screen. all is working and good. not sure if the screen is repairable but there are other parts inside this screen worth selling on. it still has a non cracked immaculate screen along with the charging port and other stuff inside old screen.
at a cost of £70, i consider this an expensive fix
Thanks for the input kakawak
cheers
