I've had m9 for a week now and at first thought it was great but as the week has gone on I've notice the performance of the phone been a bit lacking, so I benchmark the phone, and to my shock the performance was a joke on the benchmarks ( I know benchmarks or not the world)
I all so own Sony xperia z ultra, I all so benchmark it and m9 just beat it, but every day use the Sony seems to wipe the floor with the m9 apart from high graphic games but web browsing and YouTube and opening and multi tasking my Sony wins easily.
Just want to know what people are experiencing with there m9 and do they find the performance the new 64bit falgship from HTC.

It's very fast phone and UI is smoothest and fastest I've used coming from an LG UI.
My M9 score over 60927 in AnTuTu so it is really the cheapest and fastest Android phone I've had.

Iam finding the m9 fast but now and a again theres tiny little lag on the UI and on web browsing the phone has little lag, it's nothing major but for a 2015 64bit flagship phone from HTC maybe I was expecting a little to much, iam even finding my self missing the the m7 which I replaced with the m9.

Only thing after a while of use now that annoys me with this phone is the battery life. Performance is good enough. Most lag free phone there is.
The HTC Internet app is faster and smoother than chrome so I use that for browsing.
Same issue here. No problems at all until about 2 days ago, and now in some apps (Up, Play Music, Mint) scrolling through lists is not smooth anymore. Sometimes opening the app drawer stutters a bit too. Sometime late in the day yesterday the issue seemed to almost go away, but not all the way. It's driving me crazy.
Totally stock. Guess I'll need to factory reset before I decide something is for sure wrong.

?? The M9 doesn't come with an Internet App. HTC went with Chrome for the M9.

Ah, you downloaded it, that explains how it got there.
The performance does suffer due to throttling as system heats up, which it tends to do when running benchmark.
For example I ran Basemark os II and scored a not very impressive 1116
Then after cooling phone (placed in freezer for a minute)
I run same benchmark and got 1561
Which is quite respectable.
All Android phones I have owned have code that will slow down soc and gpu by dropping clock rate when temps rise.

I ran antutu yesterday on mine. With the power save feature OFF it was around 52000. It was almost exactly 10K less with the power save enabled.
Essentially, it is as fast as the M8 while using power save.
Don't know if you've seen this video. Shows GalaxyS6 vs S6 Edge vs HTC One M9 vs G Flex 2 Antutu Test! He runs it 4 times in a row and the m9 does not throttle. It gets the same score each time. It also finishes first in all 4 tests, but has a lower score the the Samsungs. Just thought I'd share. I have my m9 waiting at home but I won't get there until Monday night. Can't wait.

No, and I was hoping that in the couple Sense Home updates that've rolled out since I said anything in this thread there was going to be a fix, but sadly, still sutters the first time I open it in a while. If I open it within like a minute or so of the last time I did there's no stutter. It's a tiny detail but it drives me CRAZY lol. M8 didn't have that stutter.

Yea I have the exact same issue too. I thought I was the only one. I still think its more of a sense home issue because nova launcher doesn't seem to have the issue. I thought maybe it was related to the power saver mode on but that wasn't the case either. Not sure why it stutters but would like to know a fix for it for anyone knows why.

Hello
After flashing, re flashing and re re flashing so many times.... now atleast i have gone bored of the HTC Desire. This is mainly because there are not many good quality apps specially games. I am no Apple fanboy but the app store is something that android doesnt looks like achieving pretty soon.
The main things i like in HTC Desire are as following:-
1) Wifi Hotspot. WOW! thats so cool
2) being able to customize it as u want it to with widgets.
3) FRIENDSTREAM WIDGET its simply awesome
4) weather animations
Thats all.
The major things i dont like are:-
1) Camera. its just ok, not that good.
2) battery.... it drains battery as if its hungry all the time
3) no good games/apps
So what do you have to say? Are you still happy with the Desire or are you planning to go with something else?
As far as i am concerned i have decided to sell it very soon.... but wifi hotspot feature is what i love the most.
If you want to play games get a DS
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Abducted, Alchemy... they are the best games I've installed on my phone
Kept me busy for a good while!
On top of that there's all the emulators - now they aren't so hot for action (but probably better with wiimote add in) games, but for some others they work just fine!
I love my Desire - before that I had the WM HTC Touch HD, now that has a serious lack of games... the best I found was solitaire or ScummVM...
I have to agree, there are not so many really good games in the market right now. But I'm sure this will change. Many surveys etc. suggest more and more developers of mobile application and games are considering developing for android, and seeing as the number of android phones rises continually I think the growing market will attract more and more developers. So I guess you just have to hang in there untill then
Yes I agree there are few game the ones u listed. But they completed and then what after that? Same boring things. When will we have more stuff. Android platform is awesome but.....

good point, but as you said its a multimedia phone, emphasis being on a phone, you say there are no good games but what are you comparing this too? a ds? a psp? these are dedicated gaming machines and therefore will always have the upper hand, as other mobile platforms go the games on android are quite good, just check out the gameloft HD series and others like NFS Shift
Rooting and installing a custom ROM is the answer, that is what makes the desires one of the best PDA's on the market nowadays even better than the iPhone I would say.
I have been an iPhone user for the last 2 years I just love how many more things I can do with my desire.
And if the battery issue is a problem try custom kernels, they work great
have tried custom roms... almost all good ones. but the battery problem still persists. actually by reading at various sites like engadget i came to know that the battery drain problem is actually of android os itself. hmmmm....
I was happy until the random reboots started and I cannot send it to service so I am stuck at using it as rare as possible since every time I use it to much it reboots and then gets stuck at the white HTC screen and I have to reinstall the ROM to be able to boot again.
I like(d) it alot, and am thinking of getting another Desire. Or getting a completely different company device. Still confused
Battery drain is not a problem at all. Just compare to other os and you'll see that the situation is better on Android os due to custom kernels and cpu dynamic speed adjusting.
I agree with the battery drain issue, and the touch feeling of screen is not better than IP4
lots of nice games on android you just need to know how to hunt them
with froyo the touch responsiveness is equal to the iphone 4, SLCD desire is pretty close to IP4 screen quality too, a little less density but better colors, the IP4 screen is also much closer to the surface which is nice but ours is a little bigger
my fav game is asphalt 5 but i keep loosing my save game due to messing with my rom
another very impressive game i'm hooked at is panzer panic
also minisquadron, hyperjump, meteor blitz, heavy gunner, backbreaker, need for speed shift and hero of sparta all very impressive

I am atm using Deforst with 1113 HAVS kernel and setin SetCpu to 1113 MHZ and I can tell you my battery life is much much better than when running stock froyo
one more thing i'm taking great pictures with the default camera app, you just need to know how to handle it's settings, for example i set sharpness to -2 which removes all the digital treatment ie over sharpness, also set colors and brightness + 1 and of course choosing correcting ISO at night
people are often just blindly impressed by the iphone 4 pics but compare them side by side and you will notice horrible performance at night from the iphone 4 and horrible of noise even at indoor daylight, even the colors produced by the iphone 4 camera are unreal
only two wins for the iphone 4 cam for me, the flawless 720p and HDR

oh REALLY!!!! i dont get more than 1 day... even i have to charge 2-3 times a day. well... very soon, maybe, i will get a new phone. maybe windows phone 7. but it has lots of limitations just like iphone....
lets see.... what happens
I really like 95% of this phone but I can't get one with no major issues. These are the things that are making me considering switching to an S3
- battery life still isn't great on the latest update. S3 should be much better
- inconsistent wifi - I don't have the hardware problem on this one (previous ones have) but staying in the same spot, I still a signal which fluctuates alot, where other devices recieve a consistent strong signal
- Chrome browser - really like this most of the time but I frequently just get a blank white screen and no amount of reloading works - it affects any website and all open tabs.
- overheating..especially when on charge (playing games) it flashes red/green or even just browsing (on low brightness) it gets very warm to touch (high 40's degrees C shown on Batter Monitor Widget)
I'm on stock BTW and am not a root-er so I'm not considering other ROMs. Had an S2 previously, liked it but not too keen the gingerbread look which the S3 seems to have stuck with on their ICS touchwizz) Any advice appreciated.
The S3s wifi is awful I have both. The S3 also gets very warm when playing games and charging. The issue with chrome is the app not the phone. Mine does it on the s3. The battery life would be better of you had more than one battery. As far as a single charge goes they are about the same.

Fair enough on the Chrome thing. I thought the s3 battery is meant to be a fair bit longer lasting (it's more powerful for starters). Guess these phones will run hot, just didn't expect it to stop charging as it's overheating when just browsing etc.
Which of the two handsets do you prefer?

Flash siyah kernel, it.has.excellent battery life.and.extended wifi.range and you can undervolt or.overclock with.the.built.in.app. on average i.get just over 4 hours screen on time, some report even.five hours, i guess it depends how much you.under volt. Longest battery lasted with moderate use was 36 hours

I prefer the one x myself & I know you can mod it but I was basing this as if it was stock no mods. & the s3 lasts a bit longer but not a major difference. I was plugging them in the same time.

Have both s3 and hox. I use the hox over s3. The pros far outweigh the cons. Especially if you dont intend to root and use custom roms. Stock cheezwiz on sgs3 is just pathetic. Sense is miles ahead and with the latest update it rocks. Stay with the hox.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have the htx one x my colleague has the s3 we don't notice any significant difference in the battery life. The HTC does not last playing sonic for the tigra. Also if wifi is intermittent the battery drains fast.
I get a day easily under normal use though.

Just because you dont have to change many times to get a defect free handset doesnt mean you can rely on that to claim that HTC has done a good job w the manufacturing process. You're HTC's customers, not their employees. NO need to get worked up when somebody complains about a real issue.

Make sure it's not a WiFi antenna disconnection, make sure that your router is not on a channel where there's loads of interference, make sure that your phone is on 2.17.

1. S3 isn't, AMOLED EATS battery compared to S-LCD2. Unless you get another battery, in which case you'll blow the One X away.
2. Make sure there isn't any interference on your router, and make sure that the fluctuations are not affecting actual use of WiFi.
3. Chrome does this for everything.
4. Overheating will happen if you charge while playing games. Don't do it on these phones unless you really want to destroy it early from overheating. If you're going to charge it, leave it alone and stick with light use. Undervolting can also help with these issues, but if you go too far you will cause the phone to randomly go into bootloops that require a power button hold down to fix, or having the phone fall into a sleep of death.
WiFi signal fluctuations may also just be the phone's signal indicator actually being more representative of true signal. The only way to really know is to look at something like WiFi Analyzer and compare the dBm.
It's the same problem I've had with all three phones, when I squeeze the top right of the phone the reception goes full, but the first few weeks of using the phone the WiFi is perfect.
I'm pretty gutted that I'm movin on because I really like this phone, I'm not the biggest fan of Samsung but its the only other equivalent at the moment, I've had the hox from day 1 and its been great while the WiFi works, that's the only reason I'm changing, other wise I'd be HTC all the way

So I recently purchased a bargain priced g pad here in the UK. I am currently an Ipad air owner(boooo) but wanted to get an Android tablet and this seemed like my best option. But I have to say that I am really disappointed as it it laggy as hell and the battery life is pretty poor.
Is this normal or am I the proud owner of a dud? The lag occurs in stock launcher and apex. It also happens in browsers, namely chrome, Uc and dolphin. It even lags when browsing threads on tapatalk.
I have factory reset it and no joy. I am outside the 7 day return period and so kind of need to fix the issue if poss.

I'm usually at 600-730 free RAM and the only time it lags is when closing out a game and quickly launching email or Chrome app from home screen.

Is there any other app that lets one fix the black levels? The G Pad without any fixing of the black levels isn't that great for watching shows, movies or playing games where details often can be found in the darker areas. And trading better black levels for more lag (or having to use the Performance governor isn't great). I even noticed watching shows with Screen Adjuster made the FPS a bit jittery (like it's missing frames here and there).

That is not a lag, that is either defective digitiser or drivers within software. Ive got exactly the same issue on mine, suddenly it just stops responding when dragging my finger across the screen like it was not touched.

New one is definitely working better, however it still feels like it misses touches every once in a while. That could be a software issue though, it was with my Nexus 7 2013.

I just had digitizer replaced by LG service center. New one works great, no problems at all. So it was a hardware issue after all, like michal_alton suggested.
I tried many tweaks found in the forum to reduce lag, lower heat but my G4 still keeps crashing while playing 3D games. Is it hardware problem, lollipop 5.1 problem or I got a defect phone? Am I the only one experience this?
Same here, but only some game

My old note II even never crash!
Anyone knows how to fix this?
Works fine here. H815 model

Same here, vs986 if it matters.
Not sure what's happening because if it was widespread we'd be hearing about it in every blog.
Mortal Kombat X won't load without wiping data and praying. Others crash on start but will normal run next launch.
I sent WB Games a logcat but I'm starting to think it's the phone.

Crash happens on playing for 5 to 10 mins, becoz cpu or gpu get too hot? I'm not sure...
@kelvinick, Not for me. It's always crashes right away.
On loading a game I noticed the phone immediately starts logging something having to do with the "thermal engine", changes the "wlchg_monitor" alarm to 42c, and the "LCD_management" alarm to 44c.
This phone software is not ready yet for release. Phone is a beast if running cm.

Do you have a case on the phone? I've had devices in the past that would overheat with heavy use in thick cases.

Hmm well no problems here. If it's happening in more than one game I'd lean towards a defective phone.
First I'd try a factory reset before returning the phone.
Asphalt Overdrive works great here..

So I have the 10 for about a week now. Awesome phone, but I really dislike the speakers and video camera
Speakers sucks with both boomsoud mods. Hope it's gets better with updates and Audio mods.
Video cam focus is slow and why it's not 60 FPS like my 2 years old iPhone. Common HTC.

Stutter and lag: yes I am shocked. I have about 80% of my typical apps installed and the phone has slowed exhibiting jank.

Maybe you have a dud. That certainly doesn't seem to be the norm.

I haven't tested a lot of video, but I thought I read the video would be 60 fps at 1080p and 30 at 4k.
For me the biggest drawback so far has been the screen quality. The resolution is nice, but it has this weird shine effect that is bugging me. You can only see it when it's text on white, and it is more pronounced when you tilt slightly, but it is also there when you're looking straight on.
Didn't see it at first but now I can't look without seeing it and it's killing me.

I've noticed a bit of red tint here. Hopefully this can be calibrated by software in the future(like sony). But the viewing angle is pretty average though.

Hmm I'm also experiencing alot of stutter in apps and even in settings (did several wipes, always the same). It's not that bad but it is definitely not 100% smooth. But nobody mentions it in the forums. You're the first one.
I'm comparing it to my M8, which is nexus-like smooth, with almost no stutter at all. The only app where 10 is smoother is chrome.
I think we have to wait till custom kernels pop up. I was hoping the stock experience would be 100% smooth like the nexus phones.

According to reviewers Galaxy S6 and S7 are also stutter-free. Main reason I returned my S7 is because it was so laggy. But I guess most people really don't care. Doing a little search on google I only see people who used a nexus phone complaining about stutters on devices like S6, S7, etc.
Btw I did a little test here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66729920&postcount=226
Odd: my S7 Edge is very fast and barely has any stutter etc which has surprised me. I was expecting the opposite go figure.

Really? Could you do a test with your s7 with the graphical bars option turned on from dev options.
Btw my S7 was indeed very fast, but just stuttery in chrome (with ads blocked) and apps like YouTube.

Are you keeping both the edge and 10?
I noticed that by default Boost+ will "automatically clear memory in the background", which I had disabled since day one. Perhaps it causes stutter?
Boost+ -> Settings -> Smart Boost

Probably give up the 10: the edge is the better phone for me and I don't mind not having root believe it or not. It does what I want it to do quite well.

It's pretty strange more than one people report this problem since my HTC 10 is very smooth in settings(most of time it's 60 fps by looking at GPU profiling). Would you like to upload a screenshot of settings with GPU profiling turned on?

This is my result. In settings and youtube, the stutter is less often than yours (it happens), however Play Store is a lagging hell(sometimes worse than the screenshot below).
Not sure if it's a hardware fault or what.
As far as I know htc got their own cpu scheduling implementation, maybe that's the problem.

For what it's worth, my phone came out of the box with Smart Boost disabled.
I played with one today and im not impressed. felt semi slow and i dont like the capacitive buttons. ill keep my nexus 5x and wait to see if and what the htc nexus is all about in the fall.

Yep it's definitely not stutter free. Once you've used a device where the bars stay below the line, these micro stutters are very noticeable.
I hope custom kernels gonna fix it.

Considering I couldn't find any reason that this phone will perform worse than the competition, with same SoC and same DDR4 memory, the only logical explanation is that htc have a stricter frequency control (persumbly GPU) for a better battery life.
