Is there any way (app or otherwise) to disable 3g but keep on lte? When I'm at work (a lot) I would rather have the option to use just those 2 but no 3g . Is there any way this is possible? I'm on slimkat so this might be a question to ask in the general android, but I never get answers when I ask there, so I"m trying here.
whenever I go from 3g to 2g it drops signal for a second and drops calls, but when going from lte to 2g it doesn't (and without 3g the calls should default to 2g and I wouldn't drop them on campus) so if anyone knows why the signal drops that could also solve my problem

Hi..
Anybody knows how to switch manually to use 2G or 3G only?
Because sometimes when I am on the 3G coverage area, the phone still use the EDGE data connection rather than the 3G/HSDPA data connection. It really annoy me because the speed is slow if I use the EDGE connection.
In my old nokia, it allows me to use the 2G/3G connection only, so I wonder if desire can also do that.
Settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network mode. The auto is however set up quite well. The reason you keep finding edge, is that the edge signal might be stronger that the 3G. 3G will always be the preferred option for the phone, but keep in mind that a strong signal on edge will beat a poor signal on 3G where download speed is concerned. Therefor your phone tends to pick the fastest/strongest signal in your area.
Hey,
I've recently got my DHD. Although i still have that call drops like i had it with my HTC Hero.
At home we have a bad 3G signal. That's why i set my DHD to GSM Auto (PRL).
It still uses 3G and there are no more than 2bars (signal strength). However i also see my DHD on 3G with no bar (signal strength).
Sometimes when i make a call (1 of 5-10Calls) the phone starts on 3g, after some time it hands over to 2g and the call is dropped.
Do you know is the call drop at 3g to 2g handover the providers fault or is it the handset?
My best solution would be to adjust the GSM Auto (PRL)-3G-Treshold , so it would require a better 3G signal and would'nt switch to 3g at home at all. Is this possible?
Another solution would be if i make a call, phone should switch to 2g automatically. Seems more realistic!?
If those ways are not possible i can just use the workaround to use WIFI at home and use "toggle 2g if wifi"
Thanks in advance!
Have you tried to fix it to GSM only without PRL? This is how I've gotten rid of my phonecall dropouts on 3G.

Ya ofc, but the coverage is only bad at home.
That means once i leave home i want to use 3G.
Switching everytime i leave home is no solution.
But thanks anyway!
Is it possible that the iphone 5 has better 3g reception than our arc(s)?
This is especially noticeable indoor, my friends iphone 5 can download at 800kbps where my arc has difficulties even connecting with the 3g network on the exact location and time and carrier, so it forces me to download over 2g and even this is slower than average(5 kbps).
Also when in settings i choose (3g(preferred) / 2g) my phone is a lot of the time without signal, so the switch to 2g isn't working that good. Often calls from friends are directed immediately to voicemail. Sometimes when my phones comes out of standby, then it connects to 2g, so the rest of the time it was constantly without signal.... frustrating! That's why I put it most of the time on 2g only.
Yes i've got the correct carrier apn settings. (outdoor my 3g can download @ > 1500kpbs)
same issue on different basebands, first on 77 now on 83, no difference there.
not rom related: first on jj'shybrid now on uhd 2.0.3 (locked BL).
Someone with the same issue?
You know what will be a good solution if the setting would be "2g(preffered) / 3g", so only when mobile data is switched on and a decent 3g connection is found it would switch to 3g and the rest of the time it would stay on 2g. This is probably kernel related, but does custom kernels have this feature?
Thanks
Yes. Lol
IPhone is newer.

iPhone might have stronger antenna than Xperia phones.
ROMs have nothing to do with it. If your phone is rooted, you could try using some 3G improvement tweaks.
I have a LG G4 H815 Eu on EE, under "Network Mode" it is generally set to 2G/3G/4G Auto, on a call it goes to 3G often 2G, when it drops to 2G I cannot then access the internet at the same time.
I've taken to leaving the setting on 3G only, which works fine and allows both calls and data at the same time, but obviously missing out on 4G.
My only options are 2G/3G/4G Auto..... 2G/3G....... and 3G only
What I really want are 3G/4G, is there any way to get this, I'm without root as of now.
Thanks
Gosh. Please educate yourself about cell networks. Your phone has to drop to 3G when making a call (yet) . There is hardly any 4G network capable of transmitting a call. Yes, the invented, released, published and implemented a cellular standard WITHOUT the possibility to make phone calls. You can eavesdrop on 4G so perfectly it makes the NSA guys jerk off, you can not make a phone call. Isn't it great how the needs of the customers are met? [emoji35]
When you only have 2G then your connection is simply so bad that you just won't have enough bandwidth to make a call and surf at the same time. (How the hell do you do that?)
Your phone should however go back to 4G when the call has ended and 4G is available.

I don't think you read my post correctly.
I can have default 2G/3G/4G Auto but when on a call and it sometimes drops to 2G, data dies so I have to end call to use data.
I've now set it to 3G only and for the last few days it works fine on a call and data at the same time if needed, but obviously no 4G
Only other option is 2G/3G which is useless as 2G is where the problem lies.
I want a 3G/4G option, is this possible?
Are you in weak coverage areas? Your phone should only be dropping if you have weak 3G.

That's the thing, if I set it to Auto it frequently drops to 2G.
Since I've left it solely on 3G the signal hasn't dropped once even using it in the same places when on Auto it dropped to 2G.
I would like a 3G/4G option, any ideas how to get one? Thanks

So I'll ask again, are you in a weak coverage area?
No need to ask again, I've just explained when i lock it to 3G it's perfect, why it drops to 2G when on Auto is anyone's guess
Hi all, I hope I can get help here since I'm getting crazy trying to have my p8000 with Rogers connectivity.
I've tryed on both Stock and Eragon roms with same results.
The phone seems to only be able to find 1 network - ROGERS 4G. It registers it, but then I can only get the messaging to work... both calls and internet are still down.
Also important to say that the reason why I can't see the LTE might be related to my old sim card. I'll be replacing it soon.
Anyways, in the mean time I could use some help with:
- assuming I can only connect to the 4g, should I be able to have calls at all? are calls delivered through 4g? 3g? 2g? all?
- Any reason why I can only see 4g? is the phone not capable of connecting to 2g/3g?
- anything else I could try? different modem drivers, some app to assist on this?
Thanks
update
I partially solved the issue...
few notes.... since I leave in canada, the 3g frequencies do not work...
So, I can only have internet with 2g or 4g....
no this brings one other issue regarding receiving phone calls while phone is in 4g... it does not know the calls are coming since they are transmitted using 2g... any way phone monitors 2g incoming calls while using 4g internet?
Hi
Any progress on this. I have the same issue (p8000 and rogers) Have you found a solution?
I'm on Rogers with the P8000. When it is showing 4G, I'm surfing away fine. Making a call, it switches to 2G because like most carriers (other than Wind/Mobilicity), voice calls are on the 2G network. I dont believe the P8000 has 3G bands that we use in N.America so you are only going to get 4G or 2G.
According to willmyphonework.net, the P8000 is able to use all of the frequencies. Therefore, you should have 2g, 3g and LTE.
Is this not the case?
