Is there an app available that can be used to find the watch using GPS? I would like to use the watch and app to locate my bike if stolen.

Sadly, this is not possible until WiFi is enabled on the watch...
Right now, the watch's only connection to the outside world is via bluetooth connected to your phone. Once you leave the range, the watch has no connection to anything out there; it has no way to beam its location to another device (unless you come back in range). Now, when WiFi is turned on, it MIGHT be possible, but your watch would have to be connected already to a nearby hotspot, which is very unlikely away from home or the office.
Your best bet would be a GPS tracking module - basically, a GPS chip and cellular radio (and battery) that can be easily attached to the bike, and connected to remotely via cellular broadcast.
Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking by thought I would give it a shot.

OSMaps for Android wear will give you offline maps for wear! Just download the city to your phone, then to the watch and now you can see where you are on the map, look around all while being offline, without any phone! Great app and just request a new city if yours is missing and dev will add it in like 2 days!

As a new DVP WP7 owner im seeking exciting apps that I would actually use. I have Dish network and noticed that they have an App for Iphone and Android platforms that allow you to have remote access to your Dish receiver and watch TV on your mobile device.
I emailed them about this App coming to the WP7 platform, I have yet to hear back from them. But if anyone else is interested in this App I would advise emailing Dish to what the progress is.
But in the mean time I will update this thread with new information I gather from Dish on this app they have to offer for other platforms.
Great news!
You are now able to view TV, watch your recorded shows, and manage your DVR from your iPhone or iPad or any smart phone. The app is a free download in the app store and all you need is an internet connection and a sling adapter connected to your DISH Network DVR receiver. Being an employee I have been very excited for this, if I forget to set a timer for a show I can make sure to do it on my iPhone. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

well for one this is a windows phone forum section... so how about a windows phone application?
Yes the app is called DISH Remote Access, it is available on the Windows phone.
no its is not i cannot find it anywhere on windows phone marketplace what do we search for exact name. i tried JUST DISH, i tried DISH REMOTE. on thing that shows up close to it is the SLING app but that cost 29.99. i have android and wife has windows phone 7. one on android works great, but cannot find the app on the windows marketplace any ideas???
I'm interested in this app as well. I had emailed Dish back in November and received the below reply basically stating they don't know. Its pretty disappointing that Directv had a WP7 app ready at launch, but Dish doesn't even seem to be moving.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your inquiry and we are happy to assist. At this time, we do not have any information as to when we will be expanding the Dish Remote Access application to the Windows 7 phone. We are always looking for ways to improve our service and we appreciate your input. We will forward your comments and concerns to the proper department. We cannot guarantee this will be implemented. Thank you again for choosing Dish Network and please feel free to contact us again with any future concerns.
If you have any other questions, please visit dishnetwork.com/chat to start a live chat with a technical service representative for additional assistance.

The app is not available on the Windows 7 phone just yet, for any other smart phone the app is called DISH Remote Access.

Uhh...no. The Slingplayer app is THIRTY BUCKS! I'd rather wait for an official free Dish Network app than spend money to buy a Slingbox AND the app.
That is correct the Sling app is 30$, but the DISH Network app is completely free. If you have DISH and a sling adapter then you can install the DISH Remote Access app in the iTunes store or the Android marketplace.

Hi.
I would like to know how I use Wi-Fi Direct on my One X to transfer files to another One X or an Asus Transformer Prime.
I manage to connect the devices through Wi-Fi Direct Settings, but I can't find a way to send files to the receiving device.
When I use file managers like Astro and select to send a file, I only get options like Bluetooth, Dropbox, Facebook, etc. but no Wi-Fi Direct option.
How do I do?
Best Regards
Jorge
+1 wtf is wifi direct?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
WiFi Direct - it is only WiFi connection between devices. You need to use some applications or services like FTP, NFS, Samba, etc. to transfer files over this connection.
Better read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model to understand communication system.

Sadly WiFi direct and NFC are so poorly implemented in today's devices.. I have barely been able to transfer anything between devices.
for now it's a P.O.S me too can't even use the feature for HTC one X sux
Htc online chat support told me that you can only receive files atm with this but they might do an update later to enable it to send files too. Wtf!
Try this:
Connect devices via WiFi Direct.
Pair via Bluetooth.
Try sending via Bluetooth.
From what I have read, connection is made via Bluetooth but the actual data transfer should happen via WiFi.

Any progress? I've got a connection going between my Asus TF201 transformer Prime and the One X but after that, nothing. Connection drops after short time. I've read that mp3's on a working connection are sent almost instantly. 800 mb takes 60 sec. Would be great to have this working?

wi-fi direct
Hi all.
Acc to the below info After the both android device's wi-fi direct is enabled, configured and connected each other, a file transfer is supposed to be done share/ via wi-fi.
But when I select a file and wanted to share, it does not appear "via wi-fi" option under share ..
Why ?
"Step VI: After the connection is successful, you should try to transfer a file through Wi-Fi Direct, for this either you go to your file manager or gallery. Choose any file and click on ‘share via’ and choose ‘Wi-Fi’. It will directly start sending the selected file to the connected device."
Wifi Shoot app on Google Play store uses Wifi Direct
I found an app on google play store and apparently its the only app which utilizes the wifi direct capabilities.
The app name is "Wifi Shoot (beta)" You can checkout the demo video in the app page for how to use this app.
The app still in beta. I was able to send a file using this app over with wifi direct from my HTC One X to my friend's Galaxy Note. However i was unable to do vice versa. that is, i was unable to receive files from other device to my HTC One X. I used this app on my HTC One X and my friend's HTC One X and tried for hours to send and receive files but without any success. Only success was, i was able to send file to my friends' Galaxy Note. I believe on HTC devices, the implantation of wifi direct itself is not stable.
I searched for many apps in play store but found this app to be the one which actually uses the wifi direct technology. Looking forward for the stable version.

if you are still interested in options of sharing thru wi-fi direct, i developed an android app "PeerDeviceNet" which supports sharing over wi-fi direct and traditional wi-fi net. it runs android2.2+ and has been on google play for a while. you can share web pages, contact, photos, videos and other docs with it. unfortunately i cannot post the market link here (too new to post external links). you can find all the links at my web site: peerdevicenet.net ; or search for it at google play.

Hi I am using app called Software data transfer, managed to send files direct so far between GSi9000, galaxy tab 10.1. N7000, Galaxy beam and HOX.
So far its the only app for me that is simple to use without the hassle of setting up.. however although its free on google playstore, it seems a bit over laden with useless permissions. Till another app comes along i think currently its the only app to transfer file via wifi direct with different devices. Hope this helps cheers

yes, it requires other device have peerdevicenet installed because it run in peer-peer style.
it is a free app at google play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xconns.free.peerdevicenet
it works with wifi, and wifi direct (so you don't need external wifi net).

hi...
I know it's a ish old thread but the WiFi Shoot app it was commented before (I'm the developer) just went to v1.0 and from all my tests it's running very stable.
It works integrating on the Share menu of the apps (gallery, file manager), and the thing you launch from the launcher it's to receive only.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
there will always be issues between different hardwares and some manufacturers that implement WiFi direct poorly, but....
I've tested between SGS3, GNote, GNexus, SGS2, TF201, N7, ..... but I've never had a HTC One X to test... so if you guys want to give a shoot and let me know.
JB 4.1.1 -.-
HI guys, im just wondering...is this problem solved on JB because mine hox wont send any file via wifi direct...im running latest maximus rom...regards
wifi direct working like a charm in my htc one x...!!
After jelly bean update ,WiFi direct works perfect ....installed an app 'WiFi direct,' from app store nd file transfer through WiFi direct is easier...

I have been using Samsung Tectiles and Ultralight C tags. Both work fine for most NFC uses, however, the tectiles are 1k in size. You can use the Samsung Tectiles app to program the tags or NFC Task Launcher. Both are in the Google Market.
Good thread on Android central to get you started with ideas.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...anyone-using-nfc-tags-their-galaxy-nexus.html
BTW, I have used NFC Task Launcher plus Tasker to wake my PC via scanning a tag. I setup the tag to turn on wifi, then setup tasker and a WOL app to wake up my desktop when wifi connects.
How to setup tasker and WOL app http://tasker-profiles.blogspot.com/2011/03/auto-wake-on-lan-when-returning-home.html
I also use them on my bedside dock to toggle between custom modes I setup
Sleep: Wifi Off, Ringer Volume 3, Notification 3, Brightness Low, bluetooth off, and background sync Off
Wakeup: Wifi On, Ringer Volume 6, Notification 6, Brightness Auto, background sync on, bluetooth on
Car Mode: Launches "Car Mode"
I have one setup that turns on your wifi, enters my WiFi network name and PW, and then connects you to my network (assuming you have never been over before).
I bought a 5-pack of TecTiles when I upgraded to the SG3, they work great! If you want to see them in action check out my video of them below.

I appreciate all the info everyone. Bought me a 5 pack yesterday and going to play around with them. Hoping someone comes up with a way to program other activities on either these tags or other ones. Really wanted to use the tags for my store to trigger some videos for releases and hobbying how to videos. (Games Workshop)

I bought mine from tagsfordroid (http://tagsfordroid.com/tags/Home.html), they are a little cheaper and they work the same. Also, androidjosh you can program them to open a website or videos on youtube. The app I use to program my tag is NFC task launcher.
Wonderful thanks for the heads up!

I just bought a 5-pack of the Samsung TecTiles off Amazon, should be here next week. Can't wait.
ebay seems to be the cheapest today. Found a 5 pack for $9.99 shipped. Trying to find cheaper ones, but these will do for now.

Depends on how many you're buying. tagsfordroid.com has 10 for $15.99 shipped and a free NFC keychain.
My desktop computer is also my HTPC. I use one tag by my computer to trigger unified remote to send a key combo to switch displays to my monitor. Another on my coffee table switches displays to my HDTV, boots up XBMC on my PC then loads the XBMC remote app on my phone.

Hi,
I'm using Tablet Talk on Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 tablet installed in my car dash. The application works totally fine except for one strange issue: it appears to cut off internet to other apps installed on Nexus 7. Internet connection is shared by the phone via Bluetooth.
When Tablet Talk is connected, Youtube shows connection error, Waze navigation cannot reach its servers most of the time (though not always), Chrome browser either works extremely slowly (loading google search results for about 3 minutes) or don't work at all.
Everything works fine as soon as I disconnect Tablet Talk.
I was unable to google similar issue reported by other Tablet Talk users, so maybe I'm doing anything wrong?
Any ideas are most welcome.

If you are using Bluetooth to connect to tablet talk, and to share internet.... Then there is your problem, I think u can only have one device connected with Bluetooth at a time.
Try setting phone as mobile hotspot, and connect the nexus 7 via WiFi. Then use tablet talk in WiFi mode. And forget about Bluetooth and its narrow bandwidth.

I would agree if there is no internet at all - either Tablet Talk or internet. However, there are two things that make me believe that there's another reason: first, there is internet connection, yet somewhat flaky, in Waze navigation app, and some others, while Tablet Talk is connected. Next, Tablet Talk uses the same bluetooth connection - no extra [virtual] device or BT profile appears in the bluetooth connection list, as far as I remember.
I've asked the Tablet Talk developer about this; still awaiting their response.

Yup its still one connection but 2 data feeds, therefore 2 connections through Bluetooth. it makes sense to me this issue. That's why I never ran tablet talk this way. I know Bluetooth don't have much bandwidth.
I would be curious of the answer too. I use tablet talk just not in this configuration.

Sure, but yet it's always been sufficient for any youtube video and other tasks. I don't believe that Tablet Talk in standby mode consumes all the bandwidth... but who knows, maybe you're right. I'll try to find a tool that'll allow to monitor BT bandwidth/load, if it's technically possible. Thanks for the clue!
