So here's the thing: I made a TWRP backup of my 16GB nexus before I returned it yesterday (multitouch issues, dead pixels) but see now that people are reporting an OTA update that fixes the multitouch issue. I would rather not restore that backup since it is the JSS15J system, so is there a way I can get the data of at least a few apps and restore them individually somehow?

Ok, can it read the data in the TWRP folder? I have used TB a lot in the past but didn't think it might be able to use the TWRP data.
If it's not compressed (I never do), TiBu can do it perfectly.
In Titanium backup pro in it's menu is the option to 'extract from nandroid backup' .
Did it just last week, so I know the current version works.

Use Nandroid Backup Manager. It's free.
It can restore apps and/or data, SMS messages, Call logs and more from your nandroid backup. It can also decompress the backup if it's compressed.
Advance Restore and just click restore data only on twrp

TWRP backups each partition separately, thus it can also restore any single partition so also /data

Of course. TWRP has no advanced backup&restore features because it doesn't need them: you will be prompted before each backup&restore action about the partitions.
For data of just single apps use better Titanium Backup. It can extract them from your nandroid backups

I think some of the gapps data is flashed to system, so it won't be able to completely restore it but after flashing gapps, you should be able to extract google apps with data intact from TWRP backup

Exactly what I do.
marsmallow 6 will update apps + data from your google account. Not sure it's fully implemented yet but it's supposed to work. I've tried it yesterday with a Mm6.0.1 on nexus 7 2013 and many apps were already configured. Not all of them. Going from MM6 to MM6.0.1 might complicate it so maybe it's better to restore with google and do a little work by yourself, to make sure. I gave up on those restore apps. It also give you the opportunity to do a clean up

Forget Nan managers, tar.extractors & the insanely complex Bash terminal commands
1. Go to File manager on TWRP recovery, it can read the system data i.e. data/data/ file (while your other file managers can,only data files on SD or ext.SD)
2.Go to data/data and locate the data folder of the app you wish to extract; will be in the format 'com.app name'
3.Push 'Select folder' tab on the screen; it gives you option to COPY the file
4.Move up & paste the data/data file on your readable memmory: sd/ext.SD
And that's it!! Just connect to the PC & pull the file & there u have: your APP DATA FILE!

And believe me, I could repack the data into my new ROM just like that!
Not sure if this messes up with your system but I'm going great so far.
So you Upgraded to a higher OS and find some of your apps to be crashing on your new ROM & have a nandroid of your stock:
You are going to switch data files between stock & custom ROM!
1.Flash the Stock ROM & copy app data from the system files to readable memory, as mentioned above, just add a letter & Rename the copy(which again you can do with TWRP!) so that TWRP may not confuse with the new folder
2.Flash the new ROM, uninstall the app that crashes & install the compatible version from the store
3.Allow storage permission from settings; open the app & perform some action so that a storage directory is created,if not already, in the system storage
4.Boot to TWRP recovery in the new ROM , so now you have the data/data folder of the new app you just installed(which is empty) as well as the data/data folder from your stock ROM on your SD/Ext.SD
5. You know were this is going[emoji16] Delete the data/data folder on your running ROM & MOVE(again with TWRP only!) the one from SD ,after restoring its original name, to the data folder from were you just deleted the other.
6.Wipe Dalvik/caches & reboot
7. Other than receiving a pop up that there may be some trouble with your android system, on startup, everything works just fine for me & the App is fully restored!![emoji7]

I don't understand this step. I go to file manager, then navigate to /external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/... and there are files like data.f2fs.win009. Now what?

How can I restore only a specific game data with Lg Pc suite ?
I'm a new Lg G3 user (since december the 3rd)
Today, before updating my mobile with the official Lollipop 20e rom using LGMobile Support Tool, I backed up everything with Lg Pc Suite, and also the the fast backup option (contacts, Sms, calendar)
After updating, I did a factory reset, then restored my contacts, Sms, calendar data with Lg Pc Suite.
Then I installed all my apps.
In my Pdesktop backup folder, I get many backpup_xx.tar.gz.enc files - I cannot open them.
I get one PCSuite_FB_2014.brinfo file - it's a kind of xml file that I can read with gedit (Linux)
Is there a way to do what I want without restoring the complete backup ( 1.7 go)
If answer is no, I will uninstall this game, because I do not want to restart it from scratch !

Non Root Method
-Use LG Backup to backup user apps + text messages
-Copy DCIM folder from sdcard to new phone
Root Method:
I would suggest rooting your phone
Using Titanium Backup Pro to backup system apps + user apps + app data
Titanium Backup also allows the backup of call logs and text messages
Root other phone
Restore using Titanium Backup
Download and Normal Flash (using LG Flash Tool 2014) corresponding KDZ to remove root
Has anyone gotten Helium to work yet?
I've been playing around with it for the last hour or so and I'm not having any luck. I've tried PTP, MTP, installing updated drivers, just won't take.
Am I missing something? Or is this just not supported yet?
ClockworkMod Support says they are currently looking into the issues. Sounds like it just doesn't like the phone for whatever reason. Bummer
I could make the PC showing "Green Tick" mark and saying phone is connected, but the app in the mobile saying "waiting for the connection in pc" which is weird.
Thank god i was at the point of doing a fresh install of Windows because i thought my drivers where screwed up

Getting your new phone to act like the old one is the worst part of getting a new phone. Ugh, first world problems. Actually was dreading even receiving my G4 because of this and now Helium doesn't even work.
This is my first non Nexus in a long time. How else can I move all my apps and app data over??

When you get a new iPhone on the day of release, you log in, and wait while everything is restored.
How's the average non-XDA Android owner supposed to move to a new phone?! Even us XDA readers have to wait for Helium, for boot unlock, root to catch up with us.

I was able to still use Helium to backup, then did a manual restore with adb. I had a rooted Nexus 5 and used Helium like normal to do a backup. Then copied the 'carbon' folder from the Nexus 5 to my PC. What Helium is really doing is using adb to restore data, so after you have the Helium backup, you can connect your G4 to your PC (and all needed drivers) and use the command 'adb restore'. It is a bit tedious, as you need to restore each application separately, but it works. Example:
adb restore <path to carbon folder>/com.application.example/com.application.example.ab
Then follow the instructions on screen on the G4 and enter a password if you did when you did the backup in Helium.
I also used SMSBackupandRestore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en) for SMS, MMS and call logs, since adb can't do those without root.

There is LG Backup. Going from an LG G2, G3 maybe others, to the G4 it does a very thorough job of restoring sms/mms, call logs, apps dat/settings, etc. Coming from other Android phones it's only a matter of Google automatically downloading the apps/data and copying over the data. Contacts stored in Gmail is important. I've helped non techie friends do this - very easy.

That's what I thought too. I've got contacts, calendar, etc on my Google account, so no problem there. However, the only data Google restored was my Google sign in (that is, access to contacts, calendar, gmail, etc) - but not the app settings themselves, not even for their own Gmail app. The concept of Google backing up and restoring app data is fantastic, but unfortunately in practice, I haven't seen it happen.
if you just want to restore some backup from previous phone to G4, you could always use adb command to do that instead of helium app, just type
adb restore "backup location", where the "backup location" is the location that you put your helium backup, the file with the extension .ab

I was able to restore my Helium backups one backup at a time (a pain but at least I got the important stuff), but I was not able to do a adb backup of my old phone (something like this "adb backup -noapk -noshared -nosystem -all -f c:\backup.ab" and restore it to the G4. It would say restoring for about 1-2 seconds and then quit with no error and nothing restored. It would have been very nice to get it work using only adb and do it all with one file and one command...

try downloading adb over wifi and try again (if you need to)

Google backup? I've been wondering this myself, but haven't found anything but Google's backup/restore. :|
For apps and their data, i suggest SwiftBackup. You connect it with your google account for cloud backup (paid) or create a local folder that you can tranfer to usb drive (free) and use it to restore back to your phone or any other device.
It also backs up call logs and messages and wifi networks.

Google backup doesn't backup all apps just Google apps just tried it.

I bricked/un-bricked my phone last night and successfully restored all apps and data with Migrate (NG version downloaded from their telegram channel). Not sure about system settings... I prefer a clean start with those so I didn't try.

Migrate is also a viable solution. I had a problem with their sdcard enabler on another phone so used swiftbackup instead. Very satisfied.

The best I've seen(must be root) Swift Backup(Google play store). You can back up messages, call logs, and most importantly apps, app data, ext data, system apps, ext data. Awesome app and easy to sync to dropbox, drive, etc.

I had issues with Migrate on an older phone as well (OP 7Pro) , but so far on this phone it has been solid.
Does anyone know of any apps that can do incremental backups of only modified data? I've used Swift Backup but it doesn't seem to be an option. Swift has an option to back up only "updated apps" but I could care less whether the apk was updated... I'd like something that can back up only apps with modified data on a nightly basis, the way I used to do with Titanium Backup on earlier versions of Android.

Did not see any option for that in the app. You can do it manually by renaming theold backup folder and redoing existing backup option. I think that would work.

Yes, back up everything again but since you rename the old backup folder you end up with 2 incremental backup. At least that how i see it but it would be a pain to do that if you want nighly backups.
The only other idea may be to set a scheduled backup (paid). Just took a look, it say you can have customisable backups in premium (which i don't have) maybe someone can tell us what that contains?

You're talking about multiple backups, I'm talking about incremental/differential backups, where only modified data is backed up. The purpose is for smaller size and faster backups so they can be run daily or even multiple times a day. I save my backups to google drive and "all apps" is about 20 GB for me. It's insane to upload that much every single night when most of it hasn't changed, but I want my backups always up to date for the next time my phone is bricked unexpectedly. I do have premium, but the option to back up only modified data isn't there. I'm looking for an app that can do that, like Titanium Backup did flawlessly.
