So u payed 25 bucks to unlock the bootloader and theres not even any root, recovery or roms for it?

Hang in there
I remember the days over at android forums when the Samsung preveil came out and when the rush came out. We didn't have root or clockwork mod. Nothing ! And something or someone brought it to the attention to the devs and they came! We had quite a few over there teaching us all about root and recovery and kernals etc. The. Prevail made big news thanks to Shabby penguin hroark 13 Kumaa, trenchcoat, and a few others.
I'm not saying that they will all come over here....but there is a host of great devs on this website some I think the chances that at least one might take interest in this phone might be pretty good.
Hang in there and ask for help is what we have to do.

Couldnt agree more, the new desire range of phones r really nice, some nearly on par with the htc one. Its just i woulda waited before paying 25$, and u never know by then there mite be a free way. Did u try htcdev to unlock the bootloader? Ur device mite not be in the list but u can choose all other devices, r its something like that.

Yes I did ....many times and many settings... errors all the same.....cid not allowed ! Lol I figure 25 bucks is a drop in the bucket plus these devs work hard to put out their work.
So the money helps them out.
I even filed a complaint with the fcc which made Verizon respond on this. It's a long letter way they feel that the security should stay on! Oh well the devs here love that kind of stuff....I've seen that stuff go down with the prevail and thanks to the devs we got root and recovery and kernals etc.
Good to here from ya!

Can't unlock AT&T Play
Just go the AT&T play, and can't unlock the bootloader using the instructions on here nor on the official sonyericson instructions. Basically, can't get into fastboot mode at all, using search button and usb plugin as instructed.
There are two dudes on there forums that can do the bootloader unlock. I think its like $24usd. I'm gonna do mine payday (Friday). Pretty sure once you unlock the bootloader, the root should be easy. Look in the general section those dudes are in there.

yes he can, he just did it for me last night. Was fast and easy, he even helped root it and answered any other questions i had.
Do i have to physically send the phone?
I am new to android (jumping off the iphone train) but i was under the impression that it wouldn't be hard to root the device myself.
I'm hoping to be quickly corrected here.

You don't have to send your phone. You install a few software needed for him to remotely do all the stuff in front of your eyes. And you open the back cover of the phone, link two points with a paper clip or something like that. A lot of people have done it and I haven't seen a single complaint (except for some people who think this is a ripoff and want it free).
The problem is that there are a few versions of "lock", carrier sim-lock, locked bootloader, not being able to use fastboot. But this method unlocks everything in a few minutes.
Jinx13 also does bootloader unlocking for like 15 bucks

although it doesnt say this when unlocking the phone, it does however say in their warranty statement that the warranty is still intact for problems not caused by unlocking the bootloader. feel free to check it out..
not to say you won't have to argue with them to get a free repair, but if you persisted you should be able to get it
i had to wait until couple of days ago to root (had hox since launch) as i've been waiting to get the phone actually fixed first from wifi issues etc so hopefully won't actually need the warranty now.. and IF the worst happened and there was no way i could get htc to repair without conning me, then vodafone would repair themselves under the seller warranty. failing all of that, then i could just claim on insurance i guess. but to be honest htc would probably end up reparing anyways.

yeah or unrepaired, took me 4 months and 6 different hoxs and 2 failed repair jobs, then the final repair job which finally sorted everything
shouldn't be this bad, but its the companies htc are contracting out to do this, not htc to be fair. htc should fire em and use someone else.
anyway, although you shouldn't have to, just persist with them, if they send it back in worse condition, then send it back to them again and again until they get it right.
most recent repair job for me, they had it for 2 days, and repaired several issues, both times before when i sent it to them, they had it for longer, and only reflashed software, so maybe over last couple of months they've sorted their procedures or somethign...

Just wanted to shed some positive info since it is most likely the case that only negativity is more ominous than positive results.
In my case I unlocked my phone, rooted , a week later I realised I have a WiFi issue. Couldn't help but think damn I'm screwed. Sent in my phone rooted with supersu and a custom ROM (ADHD) at that time, got my phone fully functional after two weeks. No warranty lost and all good and well. Not saying your experience will be the same. But up to you I'm the long run. I love taking risks .. part of my personality

[Q] Verizon HTC one root?

Saw this posted earlier:
https://twitter.com/TeamAndIRC/status/371047150056009728
Is there any news regarding this? I know with the recent HTCdev lockdown, unlock is not possible, but it sounds like root is easily achievable.
I really only need to root. I don't really use any of the features that unlock would give me. Heck, the only root function I use is Titanium backup. I get free tethering (share everything) and always stick with the stock ROM.
Is anybody actually working toward a root only solution? Or is all the effort directed to a s-off unlock solution?
Same. I want to know as well. This guy seems like if it's such a cakewalk he should do it but as long as someone can figure it out I will be happy

Bootloader unlock is sufficient for flashing ROMs and rooting. S-Off is kinda superfluous.

I spent 30 min setting up my phone only to have it wiped by the bootloader unlock. Then it hit me.
Jcase said it would be "easy" for someone to work around it but he has not offered to do it. If you look he ends up specifically saying he is not going to work on it... I'm sorry my friends with the one... Hopefully someone else will come up with a solution. We had to wait a few times with the DNA so I know how it feels

I honestly think if its THAT much of a cakewalk he should just be able to do it, or to basically hand it to a dev (which he kind of said he did) instead of hinting at all this and doing nothing.
But it's not my place, so hopefully someone DID get the info and will have it unlocked asap
Yeah but better he hint to tip someone off then say nothing at all you know... Plus he like all the rest of us has a life outside of xda and I'm sure he has good reasons... I mean he has already done so much for many devices

I thought you couldn't write to /system while booted unless you were S-Off. Has that changed? When the DNA was unlocked we weren't able to do so until Beaups (I think) found a workaround with the kernel.
Also, JCase, in a previous tweet, said his PREVIOUS exploit still worked on the Verizon One. I haven't searched, but maybe it's already been released?
I'm at work so I can't look up the specific tweet for you guys.

If you are careful you shouldn't have a problem. But if you flash iffy things then you can easily end up with a brick. That's why most developers stay S-On.

I think what thepolishguy is trying to say is that he would like to sell this to a developer who may be able to use it in order to help us all gain access to an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF. That would be the best case scenario anyway. Best of luck!

honestly for S-OFF testing from two HTC phones I was a tester for.. (HTC Rezound (included use of a paperclip..., and the HTC Inc4gLTE)
your MUST be willing to brick your phone and it's your fault. not theirs..
best bet is if we get a team interested, we get a community phone bought using bounty thread and they have a phone to work off of.

This is still a good offer to any dev eager to build in which they either didn't get a chance to unlock or bricked theirs during testing. Of course not a large user base at this point but once a dev always a dev and they will get the itch!

I don't want to sound impatient or anything because I'm not I love my htc one as is but am just curious if any devs are getting closer to a unlock or root without the s-off tool. I've seen that there is a large bounty right now so I feel there should be devs at least trying to figure out something but it seems like I'm not seeing much info. anywhere and am only seeing people using s-off cards and stuff and I can't send my phone off. There are multiple posts scattered here and there that hint/speculate that an exploit has been found and the devs are waiting on 4.3.
If you don't want to wait then send your phone off for S-Off, but please don't rush the devs. The exploit will come when it comes.
Can we lock this yet?
Just hold on tight, it will be here soon!
There is an exploit floating around, but it needs work.

The OP is not rushing the devs, he's just curious if they are getting close.

Yea but in all reality there are multiple threads about this... A simple search would provide the answers.

Why would DEVs who are in a race to get a bounty TELL anyone how far they are?

Exactly why bounties are a horrible idea IMHO. Donating for people's efforts is one thing, but bounties are almost always counterproductive unless someone already has an exploit that they don't want to burn.
Its so funny after leaving iOS for my Gnex almost 2 years ago, I never thought I would be reading about "burning exploits" and "waiting for updates to release tools".
Oh well, the good thing about Android is, even "locked down" android is still amazing! The sexy hardware and looks of the phone take the sting out of waiting also haha

Why? Not "burning" exploits is a damn good idea. What happens when, lets say, the exploit was released now and then HTC took an extra week to patch it? Like getting insurance or warranty replacements? Too bad we wasted the exploit. Look what happened with the DNA and 2.04. It is literally the best idea to wait until the OTA comes out. This way, the majority of users get s-off and HTC will have a harder time patching it.

i remember picking the dna up in april and it immediatly took the update for 2.04 then it took the 2.06 one. only a couple months went by and they came out with moonshine on linux then a window's version came out. i returned my phone back to stock to get 4g back and then i used the window's way. it is great to wait for the ota like you said so many more android's can get unlocked or s-off!!! :good:

I think you misunderstood me. I was just making the comparison from iOS to carrier locked Android.
I completely understand why and how this is all done, but thanks for explaining to those that don't

Welcome to VZW asshattery, it's amazing how the AT&T and TMo owners don't have to deal with this nonsense

Of course, but at least there is a ready unlock solution, hopefully the devs will figure out the VZW obstacle soon
