Thanks mate, but It's not that I don't know how to root etc, its just that I don't want my phone going wrong and then having to pay for it because I "rooted" my phone, even though the whole point of android was meant to be "open-sourced".

although it doesnt say this when unlocking the phone, it does however say in their warranty statement that the warranty is still intact for problems not caused by unlocking the bootloader. feel free to check it out..
not to say you won't have to argue with them to get a free repair, but if you persisted you should be able to get it
i had to wait until couple of days ago to root (had hox since launch) as i've been waiting to get the phone actually fixed first from wifi issues etc so hopefully won't actually need the warranty now.. and IF the worst happened and there was no way i could get htc to repair without conning me, then vodafone would repair themselves under the seller warranty. failing all of that, then i could just claim on insurance i guess. but to be honest htc would probably end up reparing anyways.

Yeah thats the problem, my HOX has the WiFi issue, but I don't want to send it off for fix because they usually send it back in a much worse state than when you send it them.

yeah or unrepaired, took me 4 months and 6 different hoxs and 2 failed repair jobs, then the final repair job which finally sorted everything
shouldn't be this bad, but its the companies htc are contracting out to do this, not htc to be fair. htc should fire em and use someone else.
anyway, although you shouldn't have to, just persist with them, if they send it back in worse condition, then send it back to them again and again until they get it right.
most recent repair job for me, they had it for 2 days, and repaired several issues, both times before when i sent it to them, they had it for longer, and only reflashed software, so maybe over last couple of months they've sorted their procedures or somethign...
Are you having issue's in Europe or the USA returning your HOX ?

Just wanted to shed some positive info since it is most likely the case that only negativity is more ominous than positive results.
In my case I unlocked my phone, rooted , a week later I realised I have a WiFi issue. Couldn't help but think damn I'm screwed. Sent in my phone rooted with supersu and a custom ROM (ADHD) at that time, got my phone fully functional after two weeks. No warranty lost and all good and well. Not saying your experience will be the same. But up to you I'm the long run. I love taking risks .. part of my personality

We need to wait for a tool to allow us to S-OFF, so we can reverse it if going back to stock. Then it's similar to galaxy we can flash via CWM.

It could take a while to get s-off. Someone needs to find their way through the new security protecting the radio to change the flag. It is possible, it's just a question of time. I also am waiting for s-off. Not rooted yet.

Yeps rooted ..
if i dont root my phone i cant do anything
As other poster says it just allows us to go back stock for warranty etc and it makes the process safer as such. Then its exactly like galaxy cwm and roms
ahh cool thanks guys...to be honest so far phone is running smooth and already disabled most of the crap from the phone anyway...although i must admit i am already missing my TB and other rooted apps. oh well this is like a whole new adventure.
Better wait and be safe than do something stupid..What about the htcdev.com is no one thinking about doing it that method?
Forget that method as there are certain warranty issues arising if you use the tool, read the thread in development with user comments which go into detail. Wait for revolutionary

Still no root for me... and personally I don't see any issue to unlock my device with HTCDev's online tool.
HTC can anyway recognize if an eventual problem is an hardware fault or something caused by custom software ran on the device.

Send it back, rattling is never a good sign.
I wouldn't unlock/root my phone with the HTCDev, they can use that against you if you ever encounter issues. Even when the rooting isn't the cause of the problem, if they say it is: are you going to start a lawsuit because of it ? No. So you are practically defenseless.

As much as I hate to say it I agree with Xmoo, theres been e-petitions, signed letters, huge letters to the CEO's etc. They aren't going to give it us, too much of a risk. Atleast not until theres enough new devices around that the HOX isn't so popular.
But I'd give it 2 years + before they give S-off to HOX.
Would love for this to actually do something, but I'm with Xmoo.....
The carriers just won't stand for it. I reckon HTC would do it if it weren't for the beating they'd get from the carriers.

S-On makes it hard to brick a device.
S-Off makes it easy to brick a device.
I don't think HTC want to deal with the warranty issues of people who cant follow simple instructions. Many of them don't even know what phone they have.

You have to think as well htc haven't thought it through. With s-off you completely loose your warranty so if there making cash of fixing s-on phones they would make more with s-off,as people would send the phone in with no warranty. So to me it sound like htc didn't think there whole security through in the 1st place.
Or am I not right, btw I'm all for s-off and want it bad I don't care for my warranty at all

I'm curious, do HTC have any reps on XDA? You'd imagine they'd be picking up on the mood if there were.
I'd bet that anyone on XDA etc, is the type of person people ask about phone recommendations. Power users may not directly be the biggest piece of the pie chart, but i could almost guarantee they are the type to make recommendations to their friends and family.

erm...? i really dont know what to get, im using my really old samsung wave right now haha. but i was thinking last night and i love flashing roms and messing/learning soo i thought whats the point in buying the latest HTC One or SIII? i mean the whole point in flashing is to upgrade a phones software to something new and u cant if u already have the latest.. the only thing u could do is root and flash a tweaked version of what u already have, so il pass on the HTC One and SIII. so what i want is a HTC but slightly older but have the hardware to handle sense 4.x etc etc, iv always likes the HTC Sensation XL so mite go down that road, its sense 3.5 (which i love) plus it can be upgraded to sense 4 so i can flash away mad on it. Well, this is a bit of a "crazy" question - I am unsure if I have successfully fixed my Wifi. I used THIS Guide to fix it (used alu foil). But my question is: is this a permanent fix or just a temporary?
I can give my HTC to a service center on friday and maybe they can repair it (if they dont discover that I have opened it before of course )
What do you think? Leave it like it is now? Or get it to HTC?
Thanks

It should be permanent.
HTC won't fix your phone because it has been opened.

I sent mine directly to HTC. Most people seem to get theirs back with 4.3, but 4.4.2 is readily available now. I am hoping I get it back with 4.3. I did have S-OFF on 4.4.2, but I RUU'd back to stock 4.2.2 after hearing HTC denied the warranty claim on a user who was S-OFF.
I hope my next device that HTC is mailing out to me will not be on 4.4.2. The one I got that had the terrible purple/pink tint came as 4.2.2. Hopefully another exploit is found as 5 months on stock would be torture .
Does this mean S-off vulnerability as well or only root without S-off?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 2
By itself it means root only. But once you have root that means firewater will then work for s-off, as temproot is what is failing for firewater on our bootloader.

Hey everyone, I am a complete Noob to the One and HTC devices in general (I've been using Nexus devices for a while) so please bear with me. I picked up a HTC One that should be here shortly and I was researching rooting and ROMs, which brought me here. It sounds like 4.4.2 cannot be rooted due to the new bootloader lock, but I came across two links that say that the One on 4.4.2 can be unlocked at HTCdev.com, and another that says the rumrummer tool now works. So I'm just looking for some clarification on what I can expect when the phone gets here. Do those methods work at all?
No at the moment no current method available works on 4.4.2. However a new exploit is set to be released in early august.
Don't wait to root. You may lose the opportunity. Root isn't guaranteed. Especially with every update.
