Newb help going to KitKat - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Tab 3 with a data plan from T-mobile. If I root it and upgrade it to KitKat will I loose the data plan? It's one I don't have to pay monthly, it just has a amount of data I can use each month for the life of the device. So please let me know if going to KitKat would stop this data plan. Also, if it wont, please direct me to the best article for doing this.
Thanks

Tmobile $5.99 Plan? Tzones?

I have a question for anyone that can be of assistance. I am looking to upgrade myself and my wife from our old antiquated HTC Wizard finally. The problem is I dont want to lose our grandfathered 5.99 data plan through the upgrade. I'm looking for 3g phones that people have upgraded to without problems. This also has to be done with a plan ( I know it would be easier to by a phone outright but unfortunately I don't have the money for that now.) So please any suggestions? Thanks for all of your help.

3g on g2

I just bought a tmobile g2 off ebay but it won't. Let me use my 3g it says I have to upgrade my plan is there a way around this so I can use my orignal 3g or do I have to upgrade now. Thanks

You have to upgrade. Generally speaking, TMobile gives the first 12 hours of Android usage for free to "new" Android users to suck them in.
They do IMEI validation on their end periodically to make sure the phone you are using lines up with the plan you are on. Sucks, I know.
that's kinda weird. Before I bought the phone I talked with a Tmo rep and he said that if you already have a 3g plan but your device is 4g capable then it will just use 4g. I asked if it required a new sim though. He said no but gave me a new one because mine was a little beaten in from wear and tear. I suggest going in to a tmo store and asking if they can trouble shoot you if you're already paying for the standard "unlimited" data.
Ya already unlimited data and its cheaper then the 4g unlimited data so I don't want switch. I can't even 2g which sucks. Ill go talk to tmobile I hope I don't have to switch
I guess it really depends on which data plan you were on. I was "assuming" you were on something like the $10 Web2Go or another cheaper smartphone data plan - which are both technically "3G".
If you were already on an Android plan and then you shouldn't have to switch.
i talk to the rep i got him to keep my data plan the same price and switched over to android data plan i had an hd2 running android so i had to switch it. He said it takes 2 hours to kick in so im still waiting
well its been about five hours and all does is go to web2go and tell me i need to upgrade so im guessing im screwed and now its time fork up more money for 4g

Why did you HAVE to switch it? I had an hd2 on android with the unlimited data and didn't have to switch my data plan when I got my g2.....

It depends on which data plan you were on with the HD2.
I was on the HD2 with $10 Web2Go (which worked) and had to switch.
You can do what I did and buy a AT&T android phone and unlock it and use your T-mobile Sim and still get data but you might not get their full 3G (something about being on different frequencies) but you will still get there data.
I did that but umm vice versa lol.
Since T-Mobile does not keep track of AT&T's IMEI's they can't charge you for having a droid because they don't know. At least that's what i did with AT&T

T-mobile Plan Issue

This is not really the phone issue but it seems to be the plan issue. If anybody knows why this is happening, plz tell me why
So the situation is that I've been using the wifi hotspot feature on the Jedi Jelly for a while and had no issue! I have 4g Unlimited plan and should have no worries with data usage whatsoever. I've used 1.94Gb so far and whenever I use the internet/browser, it takes me to a page saying that I've exceeded my included service allotment which makes no sense to me. It wants me to upgrade from a Value Unlimated Data plan to a 4.5Gb of High Speed Data with Smartphone Mobile Hotspot plan, which makes no sense. I should really be posting this on the T-mobile Forum, but I want to ask you guys first and see if you guys know anything about it. Plz help!! I want to use data agaain T.T
Jedi must not be fooling tmo. The unlimited plan only includes 500mb of tethering.

I'm a 3rd party Tmobile vender, are you on the 90$ classic plan, 50$ value plan, a prepaid plan or which plan?
I think that the other user got it right, that the hotspot from Jedi Jelly is not fooling Tmobile. They can see that it is hotspotting. You probably drew attention to yourself using almost 2 gbs.
I had a thought. If I VPN into my home from my phone and use that tethered connection for internet, wouldn't that guarantee that tmo couldn't see what's up?

Try changing your browser's user profile. you'll have to do a google search on how to do that. I had that your problem once and thats how I was able to get around it.

[Q] Unthrottled tethering on T-mobile?

Hello all,
I tether with my phone via hotspot to my tablet about 5 times a month. Mainly when I am on the road to answer emails and the like with a device that I have a keyboard with. I have noticed that with the newer version of software for this phone, I can bypass the the check on my device but it gets throttled down to 128 kbps. I can work on email with this but it is very slow. Does anyone know a way around this at all?
I know people won't be happy and this doesn't seem like something people like anymore, but it is something I do need on rare occasion. I don't even use over 4gb a month on my plan even when I had the unlimited method before. On my plan which I have 4 devices for about 120 a month with unlimited data on mine (since I do stream a lot to the phone) I don't have the option to add tethering service to my plan. They want me to go to the new plans but then I will need to pay over 50 a month more for other services I do not use and I can not afford that. Any help or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Possible 2 bypass t-mobile hotspot/tethering 14GB limit on my plan for root/unroot?

I have a t-mobile plan that includes 14GB of tethering.... Is there a way to bypass this limit or to have tethering not count towards that allotment for either a rooted or not rooted pixel xl?
i dont think the bypass subscriptions checks would accomplish what i want because i can already activate hotspot as it is part of my plan.. i want to bypass the limit tmobile places on the amount of data i can use... i want it to use the data as if it were my phone; unlimited 4G LTE data bucket...
Id be curious to know this about verizon also. I don't want to switch from grandfathered unlimited with ''unlimited'' tethering to the new unlimited with a 10g tether limit.

Just to clarify, youre saying someone on the NEW verizon unlimited plan with only 10g of tethering is able to bypass the 10g tethering limit by being rooted? Please provide a link. Thanks.

Don't really know. I'm on the old UDP. Your post said you didn't want to switch to the new unlimited so I didn't take that into account.
