I have the same problem. At first I thought the flash was delayed or that the shutter was laggy I.e. one was firing before the other, but then realised that the white portion of the dual led wasn't firing at all. Neither does it work with flashlight apps. However the white portion of the led works just fine when videoing. It makes no sense as this would indicate the actual hardware is fine and could be software related. I've tried different ROMs to no avail inc CM12. At the moment I'm running Cloudy 2.2 and don't really want to flash back to stock just to fix this. I may just RMA the handset though, so I'd have to reflash back to stock it anyway.
There are quite a few posts about this now, so its certainly not a one off problem.

Hi!
I got a rooted DZ with several rom's tried out.
I believe that in the Stock OTA-ROM everything worked fine.
Now I'm at the Vision-Desire-HD-Sense 3.0 .
The light sensor is working a bit, but shows at darkness 10, at daylight 40 and in the sun 160. Another Handy shows 160 at daylight and 360 in the sun.
The proximity sensor always shows 9.0 ...
Is the sensor damaged or can I replace some library's or config files in the ROM?
Thx!!!
Domi
maybe is the rom. Try reinstalling it.

Did you find the solution?

If it's anything like my Desire Z, your phone will be permanently affected by this. My light sensor just stopped working one day, and never started working again.

so, the only way is service center?
Hi guys.
Here`s my problem.
The camera LED on my hTC Desire won`t work in video camera recording mode(recording with LED ON), and also won`t work on the built in Flashlight.apk from Sense.
However, it does work on photo camera mode(if in dark places, it take photos using the LED - all ok).
I`ve tried different ROMs, with a full wipe(bot cache and Dalvik cache) in between the ROMs, and the LED acts the same in all of them(works only on photo camera mode - darkened places). However, I`ve installed the ICS ROM found here, on xda-developers, and this certain ROM has a small widget called "Torch", which uses the LED for a flashlight, and IT WORKS.
Now, if there was a hardware issue regarding the LED, it shouldn`t work on any ROM - basically it`s not a software issue.
I`m pretty much stunned here.
Has anyone encountered this before?
Thanks.
Hi,
I have a similar sounding problem. No camera, no camcorder, no flashlight, no led's. However the flash flashes when the phone is being booted. Thats it. I will try ICS to see if the flashlight etc works and let you know.
I have tried sense roms, AOSP roms to no avail.
regards

I`ve had the exact same problem in the past, regarding the LED, which didn`t work in any applications(flashlight, camera etc.), but strangely flashed by itself when the phone booted, and sometimes flashed randomly while simply browsing through phone(internet, games,) - without a certain pattern. I had to send the phone back for warranty, and they told me that there was a problem with a certain hardware circuit band which connects the LED and Power Button to the phone`s motherboard. I think you have the same problem.
U can try with ICS, but my guess is, it won`t help you.

Hi,
you were spot on. Got the beloved desire back from HTC (excellent service by the way). Thanks for your help.
Hello,
My led flash has been giving me problems for like 3 month now. The led flash sometimes works with the camera app and flashlight apps but most of the time it does not.
I tried diffrent roms and kernels and nothing helps. I changed yesterday a kernel after 3 month and i tried a led app and it worked once and thats it.
Do you think its a hardware or software problem?
Thanks.
I have a serious problem on my HTC10. Pressing on the bottom center of the display, this randomly flashes in white and sometimes it makes a slight hiss. I already tried a restore firmware stock , viper old but had no success.

The high pitched sound was fixed in 1.53 and 1.80 firmwares. Make sure you're updated if an update was out for your phone. If not you can convert your phone to either US unlocked or world wide edition and flash the appropriate RUU.

Sounds like a hardware problem unfortunately, i do not have this problem, no amount of software will fix this.
If it does I'd be extremely surprised..
Back to the shop. [emoji30]
I don't use my camera flash much, so I'm not sure when this started, but all photos taken with the flash have an orange cast or tint to them. In the flash preview before the actual picture, it looks fine, but once the final flash/photo is taken, they're orange. I tried several other camera apps, and they all behave the same way. The only way I could get a proper picture with the flash was to install camera zoom fx, and put the flash in torch mode, then, pictures turned out looking ok.
I was thinking it might be a hardware issue, but the pre-flash is ok, and the flash light is ok. Looking at the flash when the picture is taken, both LEDs light up.
Has any one else seen this issue?
I have an Unlocked US HTC 10 with the stock software (1.96.617.20), and HTC Camera (8.10.779478).
A bit more testing, it seems to only happen when it's fairly dark. And looking at the room when the flash fires, it's very obvious to the naked eye the flash is actually orange, so I don't think it's a camera white balance issue. When there is some additional ambient light, the flash pictures seem to come out ok, the flash itself does not have the orange tint to it.
Do you have a case on the phone? If so, try it without the case.
Had the same issue and like Rolo42 said above, I took off the Ice View case and tried it with flash in an almost pitch black room. No orange tint this time.

This is with no case.

So, I've played around with this a bit more. I think the issue is when it uses a not full powered flash, that it gets the orange tint. In a completely dark room, the flash is fine. The initial focus flash is fine. It's just the flash with some ambient light that is the issue. For what it's worth, I only see this issue when I have the flash forced on. If it's on auto, and it selects to not use the flash, and I then set it to force the flash is usually when I see this. I've tried on both MM and now Nougat, with the same results. I was kinda hoping the upgrade to Nougat would fix this.
So I was looking through my past pictures looking for a specific one, and I noticed that this orange flash issue has existed since I got the phone. I don't think noticed since I usually only took flash pictures for things like the state of the plumbing under the sink before I tried to fix something. I hadn't taken many flash pictures, and when I did, it wasn't something where I much cared what it looked like, other than that I could make out what was going on.
As a result, I've done a chat with HTC, and when through all troubleshooting steps sans a factory reset. I doubt the factory reset will help it, but if it doesn't, the HTC rep said the next step was replacement under the Uh-Oh protection.

Yes and no. I ended up getting a replacement 10 about a year ago. The new phone didn't have the same problem. So I have a phone that works, but I didn't actually fix the phone that had the issue.
