[Q] Camera Problems after Installation of Custom Roms? Bootloader Question. - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
this is my first thread in here, so please forgive faults if i made.
Question I:
Is it right, that the Camera will be much worse than the original rom's camera, if i unlock the bootloader?
Question II:
Is there a custom rom (android 4.4+) that will work good (camera, wlan etc)?

Yes, camera is poor on CM builds and if you unlock bootloader, you loose some low light quality.
Apparently there is a way round it.
You want any ROM that is based on stock and lets you keep a locked bootloader
DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM 5.0
RockZ1k_V-4.1.1 with RocKz1kkernel
Privacy Guard][Leds][UB LB] D5503_14.4.A.0.108
And my favourite KitSlim_AMG [Evo 9][02/08/2014]
Some people prefer the .108 firmware because it is better with battery, other people want all the whistles and bells of .157
Try for yourself and decide.

[Support] [FAQ] [BL7] working GB-based ROMs for green lens defys

Hi @ all.
I want to start a support thread for all those unlucky ones who flashed a BL7-sbf on their green-lensed defy.
NOT the Defy+ or red lens, because the green one is the one for real trouble.
I am aware that you can always install a CM10 by quarx, but I wanted to have a more smooth and stable solution.
You should verify, that you are on a BL7. If you don't know what that means, you should not be here, Do not use these rooting instruction unless you know, you are on BL7. If you're questionning here, what are advantages, or disadvantages, or how you can find out what BL you have, please leave NOW.
This thread is for those who know what's cookin'.
I cannot stress this enough - be sure. search the forums. Don't flood this with useless questions.
I'll try to keep the first posts updated regularly, so that there should be no reason to read the whole thread everytime.
Now let's get started:
1. As far as I know, Froyo is no longer an option.
So, your options start with GB ROMs plus the camera fix. Please comment if they work and how.
I am sure somebody already built such roms.
2. You can also use a 2ndboot-based CM7 build like ms2ginger.
I don't know how many of those exist.
3. What I need you for:
Please add your own rom, when you know it's working on BL7.
Please add the rom you're using, when you're on BL7 with working SOC cam.
Questions:
It would be really helpful to know if ANY GB ROM will work with the camera fix.
It would also be helpful to know, if we should use custom MB525 or MB526 builds as base rom.
Working Roms:
1. MS2Ginger
2. tbc.
3. tbc.
First try (all flashed via custom recovery):
1. I managed to get a working CM 7.2, from early may 2013 with GB Kernel. (cm72-20120506-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip)
2. Rooted via Defy+ BL7 method (sig)
3. Sndinit 2.3 (you should use 2.0, because some said they had problems with the 2.3 version) i am writing this a week later, so I hope this is correct
5. camera did NOT work
What I did NOT get to work (yet):
1. update-CyanMobile-eXperience-Defy-20130502-Release.zip
2. WajkIUI_multilang_3.1.27.zip
3.
Unfortunately "not working" means usually no more bootups, no way to get into custom recovery for restoring or reflashing, so you'll have to start all over again:
1. Flash first sbf (sig)
2. Flash second sbf for root (sig)
3. Install SndInit 2.0
4. boot into recovery
5. flash your new flavour
...tbc
for supporters
If someone managed to get a custom ROM to work, please provide following informations:
Build# of the "wrong" sbf
sbf's used for root (there are already 2 known combinations, CN & CEE)
used SndInit (should be greater than 2.0 i guess)
full flash instructions
which recovery used for wiping
which one for flashing
how many reboots
approx. duration of the process
ROM Version and build
Information about 2nd boot or 2nd init and when to set it
Does the camera work?
Please, ONLY BL7 stucking ROMs, this is a special thread for special cases.

Thanks, but this thread is GB-based ROM's only.
I wanted to have a snappier / more responsive / smooth ROM instead of feature-rich slow/laggy ones. - See OP.
To clarify: 2.3.x-based ROM's only.
Thanks anyway.

Confirmed working. :good:
Well, sorry for huuge delays, but I am now on MoKee 34.1 because Rom lags or responsiveness is no longer an issue on Android 4.3
(OK, i missed some features as well)
I might remove the restriction of GB based Roms, but basically every 2nd Boot Rom works so i might collect only Rom trees, no single versions. Any opinions on this?
Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
I have BL7 and i have blocked for few days in rom 2.3.6 4.5.1-134_DFP-231.
Then i have rooted it by install fixed sbf, and found a good sbf MistyOS-BL7-4.1.2.sbf (if any one want it i will upload it)
this fixed sbf install CM10.1 and u can make it a start point to install CM10.2 and CM11
Now i have CM10.2 work fine, just battery charger only with computer

[Q] What your favorite Custom Rom for xperia z1 compact?

Hi to all, my question is simple, can someone tell me what's the best rom for xperia z1 compact?
I just bought one, but i don't like original firmware: too many sony's app, i can't take video in 4k mode, the camera quality isn't so good.. ecc ecc, i want to try to install a curstom rom, but i saw that there are many.. Someone can help me?
thank's for any response
PS: sorry for my english, but i'm italian
There's no ROM with better camera quality (I guess you mean the photos you take) than stock (and ROMs based on stock), only worse. I'm using RomAur personally, with any rooted ROM, which is quite easy now, all apps you don't want can be removed and the system can be modded to hell with Xposed modules.
I ran RomAur from the moment I got my Z1C. When CM11 came out, I switched immediately. I then tested RomAur 3.0 to see if Sony improved the terrible camera performance from 4.3. It didn't, so I went back to CM11.
SLIMKIT EVO 5 for me is currently the best stock for improved battery and performance

Yes, sorry, i mean what's the best for you.. Im intrested about your opinion.. Why you schoose your Rom, and not another
Best ROM/Kernel threads are not allowed on XDA, we all have our own preference according to our usage so please find out the best for you by experimenting with different ROMS. Also, posting a ROM being best means a negative feedback for all the other ROM developers who worked so hard to make it. Thread is closed...

Just got a ZL - Recommended mods?

Hi there,
Just got me a second-hand Xperia ZL, first personal Android device in a while, have been handling Android devices for work so am not afraid of rooting, flashing custom kernels, etc.
Been doing a little bit of recon on my end and was a little overwhelmed at the amount of development this device has (which is a good thing!). Am going to try to unlock my bootloader later today, and was wondering what the recommended ROMs and mods are out there?
Thanks!

I recommend Dirty Unicorn.. It's a custom rom that based on omnirom.. It has a LOT of customization and tweaks... Also, if you want cm based, i recommend Carbon...
I'm using Dirty Unicorn right now because it has a lot of tweaks and customization... Cheers! :good::laugh:
Dirty Unicorn looks good, might try that. Do any of the KitKat-based ROMs have the battery drain issues I've been hearing from the official KK releases?
If your phone is a carrier phone you won't be able to unlock your bootloader.
I suggest stock + xposed, and nova Launcher.
Hi,
My phone is an unlocked unit and I was able to get the bootloader unlocked.
Went with Carbon since I didn't really like the customizations on Dirty Unicorns. Once the official 4.4.4 stock ROM releases I might try that out as well
I suggest you de-odex, install superSU mod and try some new Z3 apps on the Cross-device development section

"upgrade" z1 compact

Hi everyone,
i have a xperia z1 compact phone and i'm a newbie in the world of custom rom, kernels, ecc..
A few days ago i flashed a new custom rom and the phone is working pretty well, but i have a question here..
Can i use a stock firmware (let's say original lollipop 5.1) with just a new kernel?
I was thinking about not installing a completely new rom but just a new kernel and the xposed installer to change something on this phone, is that possible?
If android releases a new version of android and i upgrade my version, do i have to reinstall the kernel? And some apps from sony's firmware are quite useless (at least for me), could i delete them just like a new rom? (ofc with root)
I just want a stock firmware with a new kernel that can use less battery possibly.. I don't need overclocking or stuff like that, just battery life i would say..
Sorry my bad english though and thank you all for your attention!

There are at least a couple of custom kernel options in this forum. Check ' development' and 'original development' threads. You can usually tell if they work for stock if they have either 'stock' or a build number, (e.g. 368), in the thread title. Otherwise they may be CM based, and won't work.

Android 5.1 on this phone is .368.
5.0 is .270 or .242
The others are KitKat, (either 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, or 4.4).
For the first - as always - be 120% sure that kernel you want to install is compatible with remaining system parts.
Base thing - stock to stock, non-stock to non-stock, but it is not everything.
Changes between versions them may be too big to play together.
You don't put any tires to any car. You need to know that dimensions fit.
Same here.

Strictly stability - stock lp 5.1, (236). Use prf or Flashtool.
Several custom stock-based roms in the forums - lots of customization and a few bugs
Several custom CM-based lp, (CM12), roms in the forums - all pretty smooth, with maybe a bug here and there, but poor camera and battery life.
Several custom MM roms - all pretty nice, but CM13 roms have poor camera. AOSP and DU are the better choices for camera, and are currently being developed.
MX ROM is the best with lollipop 5.1
For stability, design, and features I prefer DstrikerZ1
For battery life, design i prefer MIUI v7
