I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 with the original charger, although I had to change the cable to my shorter Nexus 7 cable since the connector on the end of the cable must have been damaged, I couldn't use my phone or it would keep changing and unplugging. Anyway, I bought a longer cable ages ago, at least 3 metres but the charging rate was rubbish. So I'm just curious if anyway has bought aftermarket USB to Micro-USB which has kept the same charge rate as their stock cable?
Thanks.

The cable doesn't really matter, as long as it's not some cheap eBay no-brand cable. Stick with OEM from a major brand, or Amazon Basics.

Hi,
Does anyone know of any good quality USB 2.0 Micro USB cables for use for charging the Galaxy S2 and also for connecting it to PCs?
Thanks,
James
Errr I use a variety of micro usb cables for my soon-to-be-expelled-into-space Galaxy (i7500)
- Nokia
- Blackberry
- Generic
and guess what...they all do exactly the same thing. Get the cheapest.
Cool, thanks. I had heard that some don't take a full charge...
I have had quite a few issues with thin, cheap micro usb cables not charging properly. Had issues charging HTC Legend, HTC Desire and LG Optimus 2x. Even when using a 1amp wall socket usb charger, they took forever to charge the devices. Bought a handfull of HTC and LG cables and now no more charging problems.
Loving the Amazon Kindle charger. You can plug in any micro USB cable and it charges just fine.

Sorry to contradict you but this is not entirely true.
Yes, they all get the job done but in terms of charging it can take you up to 4 times longer with a low quality USB cable.
To prove this to myself, after buying a cheap USB cable on Ebay and noticing a much longer charge time, I used a 1 Amp USB wall charger and measured the output current at the micro-USB end of each cable (cheap and original). The oiginal HTC cable gives around 700-800mA whereas the cheap one only gives around 250mA.
Conclusion : It takes 3 times longer to charge the battery using the cheap cable that the original cable.
Get's even worse when connected to a PC cause USB ports usually only give out 500mA. If you divide that by 4 when using a low quality cable, charging takes forever.
They are both USB 2.0 cables so the data transfer is probably the same, but the the cheap cable is much thinner which is probably why there is more loss in current.
I stepped on the phone end of my oneplus-one charger and I need a replacement I found a link in this forum but it's dead. The og charger would be great but now I need one for today. What should I be looking at as far as numbers go to be sure I'm getting a compatible charger for my OPO.?
Please describe it more clear, did the AC230V to DC5V usb broke or just the data cabel?
Charger
The wall charger that came with my phone. The end that I plug into the white wall box. So yeah the USB end of the data cable.
You can use any usb cable just search "usb cabel" on amazon and you will find millions.

a zillion oneplus one chargers on ebay--your opo is probably 5v 2 amp, but will charge very well with 1 amp, so you can borrow or use just about anything for a while.
don't know if it was a single case but someone here used a cheap cable and his device melted at the mini usb connector, so I would choose a cable which has the same specification as the original one.
Hello guys. I own the P605 model for 2 years now and since then the tablet runs smoothly like butter. Now the only problem i encountered is that the delivered USB cable is showing some signs of tearing at the side of the micro-USB pin after becoming suddenly yellowish in color after the last charges. My question is which USB cable should i buy now for the original charger of my note tablet to have the same power supply as before, considering that it has to provide 2A and 5,3V. I hope you can help me out on this task and i m looking fwd to your answers.
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, any micro USB cable will work with your charger. Some companies advertise gold plating, cables specifically made for charging, or faster/optimal charging speeds, but any cable will work. I've used about 5 different cables with my tablet and my phone. All of them were just lying around the house.

do yourself a favor and don't cheap out. those 5/$5 cables have crappy connectors and fall apart quickly if they even charge at all and usually dont carry data. Anker's cables are great, and not overly expensive. I haven't had luck with nylon braided cables either, stick to rubber i would say
Is it possible for the Nexus 7 to burn out chargers and cables? I've never known of a device to do this but my daughter's tablet has burned through at least chargers and cables in about the past six months. Each time the charger stops working on her tablet, it also no longer chargers any other Android device. I'm not quite sure what's going on here.

A permanent N7 fault can damage poorly designed chargers but not cables. As the problem is intermittent and both cables and chargers fail, it is most likely that N7 is used while being charged. Constant bending and twisting results in a cable short circuit which also damages the charger.
Might also be a short in the mini USB connector on the tablet.
You might want to try wireless charging and avoid using the port entirely.

It is actually a micro USB connector - what could be occasionally shorting there? But more importantly, is it possible for a short in the connector to repeatedly burn out USB cables (the OP's question)?
Let's check it out. I experimented on the weakest USB cable I could find - from a wired mouse, which is very thin because normally it needs to carry only a few mA of power supply current. I cut a single wire strand from the red, power, multi-strand cable (#1) and connected it to a regulated 3A power supply (#2). At 2A it was slightly warm, at 3A it was warm (#3). I suppose it would burn out at 5A and let's assume that 2A is the max safe current. As the red wire has 7 strands, then the max safe current is 14A and projected burn out current is 35A.
The 2m long cable has power path resistance of around 1ohm, so the max possible current from a 5V source is only 5A - well below the safe limit. A 1m long cable, shorted at the N7 USB connector could deliver max 10A - still below the safe, really conservative 14A cable limit. And we are talking about a lousy USB cable from a wired mouse - you can double the limits for quality USB power cables.
Can you see the implications? It does not matter how powerful the charger is because the cable's internal resistance prevents it from burning out - EVER (@5V of course).
Can you imagine what 10A current could do to a shorted N7 connector? The heat and smoke would surely be reported by the OP.
Finally, the original N7 charger delivers below 2A and most cheap replacements below 1A anyway.

Actually, the OP's question was "Is it possible for the Nexus 7 to burn out chargers and cables?"
Your analysis of the heating of USB cables, while interesting, isn't really applicable here. I'm betting that it's the chargers that are being overloaded and burned out. I'm also betting that the connector on the tablet is damaged and might be damaging the connector of any cable pushed into it.

I had this exact problem with a Lenovo tablet. The pins on the connector got bent out of shape and burned up several chargers until I discovered it. I messed up the connectors on a few cables as well.
That's why I specifically searched for and purchased a tablet that offers wireless charging capability. Those Micro USB connectors are quite fragile and easy to break. The less use they get, the better.
I've charged my nexus 7 wirelessly since day one. Wireless chargers can be found for cheap, certainly cheaper than the combined cost of your burned out cables.
In my two years of owning the tablet, I've physically plugged it in maybe three times. Usually if I'm traveling and didn't feel like packing the wireless charger and opted to just use my phone charger instead.
Hi.
Two questions:
1. Where should I look for one?
Found this on Ali-express but wanted your opinion:
http://bit.ly/2ze7U2U
2. Regarding the cable: are all cables the same? Or is this (in link - the one that comes with the OPO) different (can move more current)?
Trying to save where I can
Thank you!

Thank you for this.
I have been using a 5V 2.1A charger (from Belkin) but with a "regular" old Samsung micro-usb cable and it took 6 hours to charge till full.
I can't imagine it's right.
Perhaps a new, more powerful cable?
Also, how long should it take to fully charge the One?
Thank you!!! :good:

if you use cable that support fast charge you can charge your phone less then 2 hour...just get a cable that support fast charge or support quick charge 2.0 and you will see the difference....
getting a good cable makes all the difference. I'm not sure if it is due to Lineage, firmware or the kernel... but my OPO has been very picky with the charging cable for at least the last 9 months. I first noticed this when my Jaybird Bluebuds X flat short cable charged significantly faster (then i lost the cable). then on some cables, it would say it's charging but the percentage would remain constant or even drop at a slower rate! I then tried different cables and charger combinations using the the AccuBattery app and OPO Charging Current app to note the ampere.
the xiaomi fast charging micro usb 1.2m flat cable is cheap and charges "fast". I highly recommend the xiaomi cable (i even bought like 4 of them for the office and for home).
paired with new-ish samsung quick charge chargers (which came with the S7 and C5 Pro that i had lying around), i get about 1.58A (screen off).... i also get comparable results with an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 charger from like 2011 and an ipad 3 charger.

Thank you all for the great information!!!
Are you guys approve of this cable:

well I went with blitzwolf ...I don't use my original charger as blitzwolf is faster(just a tad but still) ...BW-S5 is my main and I've ordered an BW-S9(I'll make BW-S5 a second to charge my phone in my shop and also charge clients phones/tablets if needed - I fix them too)
BW-S5 has an extended review from a dude with all the pros and cons ...great review if you want to look at it(he'll do the S9 as well but didn't receive it yet and I couldn't wait, I needed a good 2nd one)
P.S. Using custom cable made by me to avoid getting slow charges(only power cable, no data - for safety too)
I'm on this charger: http://s.aliexpress.com/qeaIfIrE and reversible micro USB cable from the same manufacturer (reversible micro usb seems to be not available to buy any longer though, I can see regular micro usb only)
Both are excellent.
Reccomend a Anker Charger
Anker makes good chargers..

Chotech SMT0008 5V/2.4A charger
Hi anybody who want to use a longer cable (1.8m -3m) without losing the charging speed, I would recommend Chotech SMT0008 5V/2.4A charger. You would be able to increase the charging speed up to 10-15%.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/CHO...er-for-iPhone-Samsung-Xiaomi/32742790687.html
This charger can supply up to 5.5V to compensate USB cable resistance (especially when using a longer cable).
https://lygte-info.dk/review/USBpower Choetech usb 5V 2.4A SMT0008 UK.html
Don't forget a good quality cable as well for fast charging. Up to 1.5m 22AWG is OK, but over 1.5m get a 20-21 AWG cable. If you want to learn about cable resistance during charging the below article is helpful.
https://goughlui.com/2014/10/01/usb-cable-resistance-why-your-phonetablet-might-be-charging-slow/
I myself use Chotech SMT0008 5V/2.4A with a Tronsmart 20AWG 1.8m cable. I have tested some cables: Mageek 21AWG 3m, Blitzwolf 21AWG 1.8m, Ugreen 22AWG 1.5m all of them are OK. Avoid VoxLink cables !! their "fast cable" uses fake 24-28AWG!
