[Q] ATT OTA update fails around 25% - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I had CM12 installed with root, But i took it off and installed a stock 4.1 ATT firmware so i could update it normally again, And i took root off through super su. But every time i try to update it, The 700mb file downloads and goes to install with stock recovery (i reinstalled that back on there because i though TWRP was messing with it) and when it gets to around 25-31% area, It fails and when my phone restarts, it says failed to update. Does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

What is your end goal here, completely stock? If so check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261153
Tutorial: How to use KIES Emergency Firmware Recovery (EFR) ....
Or get your stock firmware from sammobile.com and odin it into your phone. Done properly ypur phone will be completely stock again. <--just did this the other day with my phone and worked flawlessly. I did back up all pics and such to pc first just in case. Stock everything was flashed.
Not sure about data loss or flash counter trips. I've been out of the game for awhile.

[Q] Wanted NEW UPDATE... Anyone with Untouched STOCK ROM, try to get OTA Update!

I have 4 SGS3 TMobile cells, 1 is STOCK 100% (not Rooted) ..when I try to get software Update thru OTA...it says
"Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later"
Wish they would let my Legit Cell Download it... My 3 Stock Slim ROM's won't receive update obviously since they are MODified!
It's not letting me request it either. (whatever that means, I'm trying, just get msg)
from California, USA (it usually says "your up to date" but not now, so there must be one out there!
T999UVDLJC <- Info about it here!
EDIT :4.30 MB file downloading now ..had to Update KIES and use that somehow!
MY STOCK ROM downloaded 4.30 MB update, trying to retrieve it and decrypt it eventually...
Anyone know where it's goes when u get OTA update (i've post poned install, i know it's on cell somewhere)
but it's not rooted so i can't get into deep SYSTEM files.
so I might have to odin back stock ROM with Supersu injected to get to file....Working on it now... (assuming it thinks it's not modified ROM)
this should work.
I got that message before I rooted, tried a day or a week later and it started downloading.
Try using kies

[Q] I think I might have softbricked my phone.

I've rooted my S3 before when it was android 4.0.3 but when the OTA for 4.1.1 came out, I updated and my root was gone. So now, I wanted to root my phone again, so through odin I tried to root with CF-Root. However instead of Odin saying root successful, it said FAILED. So now my phone is stuck in this screen saying Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
What do I do?
My phone is a telus 4.1.1 S3.

I got that once on a failed Odin. Pull the battery, reboot into download and try again. Make sure you're flagging the right file.

I had a similar issue a while back. The 1st thing I did was make sure that my phone could be detected via USB thru Odin. I deleted all drivers on my computer and reinstalled current up to date Sammy drivers for the device to my computer. I then downloaded a current version of Odin, along with a stock .tar file Of the previous version that it ran(I.e I.C.S) and downgraded back. Afterwards I was able to boot my phone up. Receive a software update available notification, and re-update the phone.. I then found a alternative root method.( I believe I used skips kit) and re-rooted with no problems. This happened to me before with a S3 and a epic 4g, this was my issue both times. I'm at work I wish I had more time to post links, I'm positive you can find what you need on XDA. I did I hope this helps
***mskips*** not skips.

[Q] Can you flash with odin after ota update?

I just got a s3 the other day and was gonna root and install some roms. My s3 has been updated to the 4.1.2 ota. I was simply wondering if I were to root it and install a rom and decided to go back could I simply flash the odin 4.1.1 image for it and then go ahead and update ota again? Had done this with my note 2 before and was just wondering if anyone else had any insight. Thanks
****EDIT****: i decided to just try for myself seeing as my s3 is just my play around device and i always have my s4. i flashed the latest android 4.1.1 before they had the ota update UCDLK3. Odin went great and then when i booted back up i stuck at the samsung screen. but to fix just went into stock recovery and factory data reset and boom my device booted up into a clean fresh state. no problems with wifi or anything. so for those of u wanting to unlock your device but had updated to 4.1.2 or maybe just want a clean slate (my position) then i can confirm it works just fine. and then you can just do the ota again if wanted (doing this as i type ). hope this helped.
You can flash with Odin. I used the all in one. The WiFi will stop working on stock ROM. When you flash new ROM WiFi will work again. You may have a couple of bugs to work out but it is worth it. Just google to find solutions. Good luck.

[Q] S3 locked after 4.4.2 OTA

Here is what happened, i downloaded the OTA from AT&T, unrooted my phone and installed the update. It went all the way through, rebooted and that's where it stops. As soon as the AT&T welcome screen comes up the phone just freezes. When i plug it to my PC the phone is not recognized. Kies says it can't connect to the device. I'm able to get into download mode and odin seems to find the phone. But in download mode there is no option to reboot or anything. It only says "custom" on all options.
Can anybody help?
Factory reset usually solves most boot hangups. It will wipe your internal sd if you have stock recovery though.
i can't find any option to do a factory reset. I flashed Philz touch with odin, it said it passed. Tried a factory reset but it still freezes at the AT&T homescreen.
Any other way to do a factory reset?
Why'd you re-root BEFORE installing the update? Is there a particular reason? From what I've read on here, towelroot will easily root it afterwards.

I took root off the phone since most of the time root stops OTA updates. Then i downloaded and installed the update. I had plans to root it again after the update.
Hello there. I also attempted the 4.4.2 OTA from stock 4.3, and now I'm having this exact same issue. The device had TWRP recovery installed, so I re-installed the stock recovery. It was also rooted and a few system files were edited (lock sounds, hosts file), I reverted all the changes, did a full unroot via SuperSU and proceeded with the OTA. It seemed successful until it tried to boot.. it now freezes on the AT&T logo, as the OP mentioned. I installed TWRP recovery again via Odin so I could back up all the data from the phone and do a factory reset. Unfortunately, this did not fix the freezing. I've attempted reverting back to the latest official Odin .tar (4.1.1), which I've now learned is not possible since the 4.3 update and its locked bootloader. It would seem that the only thing that would do the trick now would be an Odin-flashable 4.4.2 tar. For now, I've installed CyanogenMod as a temporary solution.
I dunno if it has been tested yet but this is a TWRP/CWM flashable zip which also preserves root.

It didnt work. I am currently uploading two more attempts now and will post the links in that thread as soon as they are ready.
this worked for me
Hi All, Just wanted to share a solution that worked for me. I was in the same boat. OTA update locked phone on ATT screen. Used steps 2 and 6 from link below and now have 4.4.2 running on my phone. Happy flashing.

Update rooted Note 4 to work with Gear VR?

How would I go about updating to this new update that was release Today. This is the patch that adds the Gear VR functionality and my Gear VR is set to be delivered on Thursday. When I go to the update on the phone itself it says my phone has been modified blah blah blah and to try to update with Kies. I downloaded Kies but it says I already have the most up to date version.
did you get the update through OTA? Otherwise flash it with recovery. Let us know about the Gear VR when you got it working.

warnin on kies update!!!
Charging problem after update
Hello. I cannot use fastcharge the box is checked. even regular charging takes forever since update.!!! It literally takes 8 hours to charge on fastercharge plug.
I had rooted device with stock rom. I got word of an update weeks ago and tried but didn't realize the root would not work. It failed. said I have unauthorized software.
I did install teamwin bootloader.
I was able to update the phone in kies like it suggested and now the battery will not charge. I tried to boot into recovery and it does a little droid with error sign and gives me a few options I can try or reboot.
I guess my phone is messed up now? is there any way to recover? I tried factory reset and it didn't help. Do I need to flash the entire rom somehow to overwrite the teamwin bootloader? Please help.
will odin stock tar fix this? using odin and image from sammobile?
Thanks
Idk what u did but return back to unrooted stock then reroot then flash recovery and make sure u r using the right software to do all this stuff

update to my issue
Ok I downloaded the stock NK2 tar rom and used odin to flash this time. Had already did factory reset but still didn't work. I then did a factory reset from droid interface (not recovery etc) and now when it reset it asked me if I wanted to use fast charging with box checked on startup. I clicked next and it works. Hope that helps
