I just got the Note 2 in October of this year. I have always been amazed at the battery life. With regular use, texting, emails, internet and phone calls (nothing crazy), I easily could go 2 days on a charge. Now for the past few days, I am already at 71% and it's just 11am. I can't figure out what is going on. my battery meter shows the Screen as first then Android System next at 22%....Easily dropping 5-10% per hour. Help!!

It is running on Android 4.1.2. All of these things I am reading about rooting and stuff are foreign to me. I just want my battery life back. Any help would be appreciated.
Have you adjusted anything with your brightness? You may have accidentally turned off auto adjustment if you were using it previously. If that's not it I'd suggest a hard reset. If that cures it you can most likely chalk it up to a recently downloaded app.

When you get a chance run the battery down to 1% then power off and let charge for at least 20 min after light turns green. ..you'll probably see immediate improvement
i've had to move google play services as a user app with titanium and then greenify it. all my devices started getting big time standby drain last month from google play services.
i do have the donation version of greenify, but i didn't feel like installing xposed to use it.
OMGosh...I updated to 4.3 and did a factory reset as well and it is not helping! What does it mean to "root" your phone? Will rooting the Note 2 nullify my Samsung warranty? Someone please help....

yes rooting will void your warranty but there are methods you can do to unroot it and have it go back to stock rom. I, as well as most of the people in this community get better battery if you root your rom and install a custom kernel, you will get better battery life.
one app that I found that I use daily is 2x battery pro. it's not free though.. there is a setting on the app that lets you turn off any background data while the phone is idle; you will still get calls and texts though. this will give you longer battery life. when you turn your phone on data will come back on. I get around one day and a few hours from the charge. check it out man. might help you..
Just to put this context, I bought the Wifi version, which at this stage has no root that will NOT trip KNOX. Additionally, I found that the battery life is poor (bloatware? Unknown since I got no root) and the back of the tablet gets really hot in normal use (browsing Reddit, going to Chrome, etc.) which makes it very uncomfortable when held in Portrait mode.
So I want to get the LTE version since it is rootable without KNOX trip (towelroot) and I can disable most of the bloatware. But want to get the opinions from those who have the LTE version if there is any problem with this version, like overheating, lag, etc..etc..
Hmm, no reply so far after days. So looks like the Note 2014 just have this issues, regardless of the version. I really like the tablet, but too bad Samsung mess it up.

My p600 doesn't have heat issue. It's possible that one of the process/app/sync stuck in loop mode which cause your device to heat up. I would disable wifi and remove all accounts and see if the heat went away. Not everyone heat issue is the same as others.

I already reset the tablet 3 times already, setup no account and try to use it normally = heating up. Maybe it occured to specific batch, like this:
Galaxy Tab S heating up and deformed the back
But the heating up is just one of the issue with the Wifi version - battery life is also crappy due to Android OS keeping the tablet awake. See my posts here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799874
So I have the LTE and a Samsung Note 3 (all Verizon) and the WiFi sucks on the LTE 10.1 tablet. Side by side doing the same functions the phone wifi is far better than the tablet and the speediest app over the wifi for both the tablet is bad on results...the cell does great.
So I I turned off the tablet wifi since I have great LTE coverage at home download speed of 35mbps on the speedtest app... from what I read the wifi drivers on the tablet is the issue...
My only negative outside of a locked boot loader

I can't comment on the root angle since mine's currently unrooted - I need to run some root-checking apps, but my tablet seems responsive, including with chrome, & doesn't get hot or laggy. Battery life also seems very good. It's the P600 wifi only exynos model.

How good is the battery life? 1 day with 3 hours screen on time? I checked Settings --> General --> Battery and "Android OS" always Stay Awake.
The heat is on the right of the camera, if you are facing the screen of the tablet. It is more profound when I held the tablet in portrait mode, but not so in landscape.

Hmm. tricky to say since i've only had it a week, but today the tablet has been off charge for 6:40 and is sitting at 87%. The screen has been on 35 minutes so a very light day. Android OS has kept the device awake 1:21 (which is bad!) and google play 36m (I was doing some updates. My average drain is 1.8%/hr from this mornings work
I'm running 4.3 (UK BTU) - I'd be on 4.4 if it was out (for BTU)
I don't like that "android OS" keep awake figure personally, though it's not as bad as yours! From reviewing wakelocks it appears "sec-battery-monitor" was 1:07 (not sure where this is accounted for) ,app wakelocks 0:44, but with wlan* activity adding another 1:21 - this is usually network broadcast traffic. I think some kernels/drivers filter broadcast most of the time, others dont. You might want to see if "gsam battery monitor" or a similar tool gives you a breakdown?

I have installed GSAM, but it only show that "Android OS" is the one that use the most battery. I think it is tricky to figure this out since I am not rooted.
I am running 4.4, though, so not sure if thisis the culprit.

No problems here. I accidentally updated and there were no issues that I noticed thereafter.

It was about the same, but I didn't have stock very long. No lag either. I always close all my recent apps daily to keep as much ram free as possible to avoid slowing down the phone. I ended up getting root about a week after updating to NK2 and running Xnote which is real zippy with a little better battery performance. I started at 100% at 6pm yesterday with moderate usage up until I went to bed and had about 50% around noon today . I've got Battery Monitor Widget Pro installed and it went from 86% to 85% between 11:43pm and 1:23am. Not sure if that's a glitch, but the phone temperature was at it's lowest at 77º. Fast Charging still works great with Xnote so I am able to juice it up quickly just as when I was stock.

Awesome blossom! I'm going to try to update this thing
I received my S6 Edge on Wednesday and rooted it the same day via Ping Pong. I'm on G925TUVU1AOCG. Is that even the latest version? Anyways, battery life is literally ****. I can't get more than 2 hours of Screen on Time. Even my Galaxy Nexus from 2012 gets at least 2+ hours.
Is this because I'm not on the latest version, rooted, or something else people have experience with?
I've had horrible battery life since I've rooted using ping pong this week. I don't think my phone is going into deep sleep but haven't checked it yet. It drains fast when not being used.

Yea so I flashed the stock ROM with Odin and unrooted. I didn't wipe data however. But battery life still sucks. For anyone that cares .
I read a trick about disabling google now and it seemed to help drastically.

I went through this issue with my first S6. Re-root and download better battery stats - or CPU Spy. See if your phone is going into deep sleep. Mine was constantly kept awake by lli_pm_wlock. I couldn't find ANY information about it on the internet - but it was keeping the cores active and burning through battery like crazy. It would occasionally enter deep sleep, but only for a few minutes at a time.
I ended up returning the phone and getting my new S6 Edge. I tried everything - factory resets, flashing stock firmware via Odin, basically everything possible without tripping KNOX with a custom kernel.
My battery life has been awful. Specially after rooting with Ping Pong and specifically last night. 100% at 10PM, and at 11AM with 58 minutes of on screen time, the battery was at 13%. That is just horrible. Worst battery life I have ever gotten out of the phone.
Pains me to say it, but if the battery doesn't improve by unrooting it, and waiting for a future update to 5.1, I'll most likely change to a LG G4.

If you have it rooted install Better Battery Stats and figure out the problem. If it's a wakelock, the problem is it's just not going to sleep. Something is keeping the CPU active even when the screen is off and nothing is going on. It's a common problem on the rooted phones - but usually PingPong Root doesn't have the issue. Enter recovery (turn off - then power, vol up, home at the same time) and clear the cache. Reboot and run BBS for a while.

I also have the same experience but instead I just keep my phone on Ultra Saving mode
It's been really difficult for me to try to drain my phone to see my average screen on time.
But is this normal? I'm not sure what is a decent Deep Sleep percentage.
Btw: This is after I unrooted without factory reset.

Yea we're having very similar issues. I would try the G4, but the Edge is too beautiful!! This is the first time I've gotten a phone so soon after release, so I'm probably gonna stick it out for a month or 2 and wait for bug fixes.

That is not normal. Backup your data and flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch then restore what you want. See if that makes your battery last any longer.

I had horrible battery life when I got it out of box. It wouldn't last more than 5 hrs with very little use. After I flashed stock firmware with SmartSwitch, Battery+ RAM Usage issue got solved. Now I get whole day with single charge. I take my phone out from charger by 7 AM and by the time 10 PM in night, Phone would still have 35-40% battery left. I get many emails [50+], 2hrs of GPS+Music streaming + random facebook & Instagram and even after this, I get good battery life. So I would 1000% recommend that you do a flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch.

I tried using SmartSwitch and unfortunately, battery life was only a tiny bit better. However, I started getting a bunch of force closes, and the phone became laggier than before. I would try it again, but it's so much work resetting up my phone! ...especially without root.
So I ordered the G4. Hopefully I'll be getting the Note 5 in a few months .

Do you have adaptive battery turned on? Maybe that helps for you.

It's well known but may have been fixed, only other thing I could think of is if he used to smart switch to set up the phone
@skinza
It has been fixed in recent updates.
However drain is still significant but not caused by WiFi now.
As you can see Android+Kernel drains over 30% of my battery. Is it normal in recent Android versions?

Tbh it kind of came out of know where
I updated to the xxv Vietnamese firmware for may update as it said it had stability fixes (AVDF) where as mine xsa Australia (AVDD) said only security, I flashed my csc though
Did a battery recalibration and it hit abother level
Adaptive battery on
All apps to sleep except fb, messenger, and emails etc
Got rid of all the bloatware I don't need
Used the galaxy app booster after updating
Manual brightness at roughly 50%
Adaptive display but 120 - 30hz instead of 48
A heap of bixby routines so I can keep location bt and nfc off till needed etc
Galaxy max hz app so phone sleeps as soon as it's off as well as changing Adaptive display while powersaving mode but changed it so 96hz - 30
I'm contemplating rooting but scared I'm gonna lose my good battery life after resetting
