Suggestions in buying this phone

Hello guys, I am really interested in buying this phone and I don't want to make a mistake, as this maybe will be my phone for the next 2-3 years, maybe more.I want to know your opinions, does this phone worth to buy? Does it have that annoying bloatware that slows the phone alot(I have a s3 now and I know what I am talking ) and in everyday usage does it work smooth, how is the multitasking and the battery in normal usage (fb, calls etc)?
Also I am between this and the LG G3, I can see a lot of negative thoughts about M8 camera quality,is this true?

1) What bloatware the phone has, depends on what variant you buy. But I think the Euro version are pretty clean (at least compared to some of the bloat-ridden US versions). In any case, the phone is very smooth and fast. Some folks complain about lag on Lollipop (known issue on LP in general) but I don't see it. In any case, the phone is not plagued by OS lag like the Samsung GS5 and tablets.
2) Most folks that complain about the camera don't know anything about taking pictures, and are just looking at the MP number, not the actual image quality. M8 camera loses some detail in daylight. But probably only important if blowing up or cropping the photos. The camera excels most other smartphones (at least for its "generation") in low light. Which is particularly important if you take a lot of pics indoors.

I get around 6-7 hours of screen on time with 4g/3g and 1 hour of gaming. I can't finish the battery in a day on normal use. I don't have the time. Refer to this post and thread for screen shots. I don't run with gps or location on when not needed or auto sync.
Most bloatware from carrier I could uninstall (I'm on vodafone, not sure about orange or telekom) and bloat from HTC (useful stuff but if don't need it is bloatware) like kid mode, dot view mode and such can't be uninstalled. Stock Sense is fast, the fastest I ever seen on android and the speakers will blow you away first time you hear them
Rooting and flashing roms is easy and you don't need S-OFF for that but make sure you do a nandroid on your stock so you can revert and take the otas when needed.

The above response from TempesZ is better than I can give on this; as I'll have to admit I'm personally not a heavy user on the phone most days (on work computer all day, than mostly use my tablet at home in the evenings). But with light usage, I can get up to 48 hours on a single charge. If my kid uses the phone to watch movies or play games for a couple hours, I can still easily make it through the day with some charge left by the time I put it on the charger before bed.

It looks to me like HTC tried to cheat on benchmarks (by turning off the thermal throttling) and it backfired! And most of the smartphone manufacturers do cheat on these.

How do you manage to get such good battery life? I get 5.5 hours of screen time at best. That may be due to me having horrible service in my area. Still running stock Lollipop.

Depends what you are doing with your phone. 7 hours I hit in wifi and without using chrome too much (read hours) and instead relying on things like tapatalk and apps and no games. I am using Maximus HD with stock kernel. I have good signal (always 100%) and brightness usually is low enough and at night is at 0. I can tell you brightness makes a massive difference. I don't use auto brightness but manual and never use gps and location unless I need it. For example if I browse XDA through the xda developers app I get around 11-12% per hour drain on wifi and around 15% on 4g. (check picture, 20 min screen, 4% drain)
Keeping wakelocks to a minimum helps a lot to conserve that extra juice for your screen time. I use my android tools to disable wakelocks and greenify on stuff like facebook. No auto sync either since that would be only my mail and I don't need sync for that.
If I game and have WiFi on I usually hit 6 hours with 1 hour of games or so and that's my average sot.
I don't use Google apps except Google newsstand that syncs only when I want to read it and Google play services which is mandatory. No Google+, no maps (I use waze), no gmail ( ok maybe I use inbox with no auto sync). In Google settings I disabled location history and of course I don't use Google now (another useless drain) though you might use it.
I don't use blinkfeed, I use nova launcher.
Oh and power saver kicks in at 15% and it helps for the last hour or more. It reduces your CPU from 2.3 to 1.2 ghz but I think it's worth the performance impact at that point. 5% is extreme saver time but I never let it go that low on purpose

Very disappointed to buy a HTC 10, and some questions

Good afternoon to all, I hope you can help me with this situation.
I have 20 days with the HTC 10, and I can not be more disappointed of its performance, and coming from a galaxy s6, but we go by parts.
1- the phone, it gets very hot, very fast, especially after updating to nougat 7, I mean, with 15 20 minutes of surfing on the web, it reaches temperatures between 40-44 C ° (104-111 F °) , At this temperature it is uncomfortable to hold. Is this normal ??
Taking into account that I do not play, I only watch videos, I listen to music and web, because I just did a hard reset, which brings us to point 2.
2 - It is the first time, I update an android version, and a big error appears, once updated to android 7, the keyboard stopped working (swiftkey), so I could not access it because it was protected By password, and the keyboard in the start section, never displayed. I had to do a hard reset with only 15 days of use, seriously WTF!
3- Due to the warm up, the battery life is quite poor (between 3.5 and 4 hours of screen, no play, or take pictures all day, turning off mobile data at times and wifi, is this battery drain normal?
The battery come to exhaust quickly, especially when the phone is very hot, when restarting the phone, it eats 3-5% of battery every time.
When taking photos the same, the battery drops very quickly.
4- I normally play on a PC at 60 fps, the phone when playing video on youtube, has a slight lag or "stuttering", this jumps out at me very easily, although there are people who do not see it at all, I do by The same as I mentioned earlier.
When playing video youtube on the phone, the camera movements are not smooth, there are micro-cuts to the FPS, and it is very annoying.
5- before upgrading to android 7, just install a game, "realm defense, hero legends", a very popular game on android, and felt like it was under 30fps all the time, my previous galaxy s6 handled this very smooth,
6- Points 4 and 5 are solved by activating the "high performance" option in the menu of developers, the lag in the videos disappears completely, and the games feel very good, but with the consequent increase in battery usage and Temperature, seriously WTF again.
The phone according to CPUZ has a load of 15-35% all the time without loading any application, this is normal in andrid 7 ??
The phone is in stock status, with the update of the operator, I have no ROM installed, and I have no idea how to do it, because I would not like to lose the warranty.
Any recommendations to this situation ??

No these are not normal. Obviously something is running around causing the CPU usage and eating the battery. Given how many problems you're having I would do a factory reset, see how it goes without installing any apps. If things get better that'll help your pinpoint the troublesome app(s). If not, a replacement is in order.

I do not know what to have, I have a hardreset for 4 days and I have not installed many apps yet, and it has these problems.

I'll second that, although I've only used mine for about six months. I do admit that running Android 6 the phone did seem to get hotter than it does with Android 7.
That being said, when I'm running a game battery life does suck, and it does get warm. I think I'm about 5 to 6 hours of screen on time, but I'm also bone stock with a bunch of extra apps in the background.

I admit HTC storage r&w speed is slower than S6 because of emmc5.1, but mine is smooth enough.
I also recognized the battery life is shorter on Android 7.0, but it's a general issue for phones upgraded to this version of Android...Not just HTC10, Sony, Samsung etc also has this problem.
As for SwiftKey stopped working, I have no such an issue, in fact I'm a mod of SwiftKey.
At last for the temperature, mine gets 38 °C while fast charging; 42°C is max while playing heavy games.

Mine gets 40°C Without doing anything, and playing reaches 44-45 °
And it seems ridiculous, that when doing this app can not with the 60fps, for a little ball in 2D.

Sorry, I should clarify...
I've had the phone for about 7-8 months now (longer than I originally thought, got it back in September of last year...) and got the update to nougat about 4 months ago.
When the phone was running marshmallow, it would get warm while working on tasks that aren't CPU/GPU intensive. With the update to nougat, it definitely helped with the heat production. That's not to say it doesn't get warm... If I'm playing Rayman Classic on full brightness, that phone gets really REALLY warm. But when playing Deus Ex - The Fall, even on high brightness, it doesn't get uncomfortably warm like when playing Rayman. Also, basic tasks don't overheat the phone like they would on MM.
I should note that I typically leave power saver turned on as well. I've found it doesn't affect performance noticeably for myself. I've also had Boost+ optimise all foreground apps from the overheating nightmare on MM, and I hadn't bothered to turn it off... These could play into the heat production of my phone as well...
My time with this awesome phone has been so short due to my contract with my former service provider...

I think most of your issues will get resolved after installing Custom Rom. Infact I am in similar situation like you. I can't root my phone due to warranty. As i know for fact that in my country HTC charge huge amount of money even for small issue. After spending that much money on repair, there is no guarantee that phone will work fine cause engineers are not capable enough, maybe cost cutting by HTC. Meanwhile i would suggest select SRGB instead of Vivid display, it will surely reduce heating problem to some extent.

Battery problems?

I know, our device has really great battery life and I don't have anything to complain about that, but a friend of mine just got himself a new phone and his values make me a bit jealous and most of all: surprised and stunned.
He got himself a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (SD 625 variant, MKT variant really sucks), it has the same processor, same display and not even 700 mAh more (4100 mAh) and he got with some "dev rom" (made by Xiaomi, seems to just be the beta of that ugly MIUI 9, based on Andorid 7.0) 6h of SOT, doze seems to haven't really kicked in in that time. in their forum in the SOT thread I see people getting normally about 8-10 with up to over 12 h of SOT, most of them on stock ROM without any additions. And I'm quite irritated about that huge of a difference with not that much more battery. And he seems quite convinced that it's not on the cost of performance, you should notice that quickly on such a heavily skinned ROM.
Now my question is: how in hell is that even possible? I mean our devices seem quite comparablewith just a slight bump in battery but near-stock AOSP Android against pretty much an iOS clone. Does anyone have any idea what could cause that big of a difference? And if it's software based could that be done on our device? Because my experience and from different posts our device lasts about 5-6 h normally.
I mean I'm already lucky about my 2 days of usage with up to about 2.5 days on some weekends where I have a lot of stuff to do. But I wouldn't mind a bit of extra. But my biggest problem with that is as simple as: how? I could really use some explaination right now...

I don't have issues with device.. stock 7.1.1 with dec.patch, unlocked bootloader, with latest magisk. Also installed greenify.

Then you are one of very rare cases. My experience is about half of that.
And I also meant on stock ROM, without any modifications. So I don't know which apps you greenified, but that was not the point. I use Greenify too but more for apps that aren't supposed to run constantly in background when I only use it very seldomly.

The norm for this phone is 8+ hours SOT. Sometimes I get 10 and a few have had up to 12. Unless you're gaming 8 should be easy. 5 hours means something is wrong with your phone hardware, you have a rogue battery eating app or you're gaming. I rarely charge my phone over the weekend even when I use it a lot.

Well, neither of that is the case and I rarely see people claiming more than 6h of SOT

So the answer to your question is, it's the wrong question. The question should be, why does my battery not last very long and what apps or usage causes me to have such poor battery life? Compared to the Redmi Note 4 the Z Play is exactly where it should be.

Well, gsam isn't detecting any app that's off even with root so I don't think there is any. I installed that AccuBattery app, let's see what it has to say

Oh, and another thing I noticed: I get very randomly reboots, and every time the battery percentage drops massively. Just had a 30% drop. And after the reboot the battery percentage seems like frozen. Now I rebooted and plugged in the cable and got 44% again... No fast charging. Do that detection seems very off
Motorola forum isn't helpful at all. Clearing cache and dalvik didn't change anything and running around for a week in secure mode (that's how random they mostly are) or even doing a factory reset without restoring apps is out of question for obvious reasons.

That's pretty weird. Did you try a factory reset and after restore your apps? There's not a lot you can do if you're not rooted, but you shouldn't need to do much anyway on stock rom.
Only other option is full RSD lite OS restore as a last resort.

I am rooted for long, that's why I use Greenify. I know it also works without but then it's a joke. As RSD lite is, it just refuses for everyone to detect anything on Windows 10.
Factory reset is out of question for the moment, it takes way too long to do it properly (with titanium and NANDroid backup first) and I won't have that much time probably for the whole of this month. Otherwise I would most likely already have went off to the next best custom ROM since Motorola just can't get their **** together and still work on 8.0 in test for 2.5 month with searching testers for another one.
I think the next thing I'll do is to try the good old battery calibration, just have to find the file storing the statistics. I know many say that won't work but that's rubbish, it worked for me already a few times

Update: no, no change. Don't know if that funky battery percentage bug on random reboots still happen since I haven't had any again yet, but they come too random and unpredictable.
And that AccuBattery just proves to be worthless. It tries to estimate the rest capacity, but then it even fails to detect original capacity by 500 mAh. The battery sucker stats are also unrealistic. It puts chrome first with 10%, while GSam with root puts it 5th at 4.6% after kernel, Spotify, Android system and fight services. Android itself even puts it 9th with screen, phone idle, cell standby, Android OS and Bluetooth in-between.
So let's see what happens first. Motorola releasing 8.0, which I will flash through the .xml.zip, this time using flashfile.xml which should force a factory reset... Or me finding the time to switch to a custom ROM
Edit: so I got another one, bit this time no crazy battery drop. But the other times I killed of the soft reboot sequence because Magisk can have some problems with that. This time I didn't

Yesterday I was finally able to do the factory reset since those darn random reboots became too annoying and Moto's support is had just the most ridiculous ideas... In the worst way.
Either way, now OTA looks better, let's see how it will turn out in the next days

Painfully bad wifi reception on HTC 10

Hi, I just got a new HTC 10, but I've encountered an issue with it - the wifi signal reception is a pure clown fiesta. My room is fairly far from the router, but even then I managed to get near perfect connection with my ~5 year old Samsung. With my new phone, I can't even open google play most of the time. Same router, nothing changed there
I've googled it up a bit, and some people suggested to force the 2.4Ghz band, but it's already the one I'm on. Do you guys have any other idea what to do?

Can't give feedback on 2.4 but i am on 5 Ghz and that is working fine. It still could perform better in my opinion but it is surely fast enough everywhere in the house to have a solid stable connection.
Did you try 5 Ghz ?

I'm not sure if my router allows that. Tbh I couldn't even find the band settings in the wifi settings - I'm on stock Oreo update :/

Well the 10 isn't very well known by its awesome Wi-Fi reception, it has been a discussion from the beginning but as far as i can see it it should be more than fine in standard conditions.
Another possibility is that it can be better on nougat than oreo but with an S-ON device it involves downgrading firmware by a pretty complicated tutorial (at least if you don't know anything about flashing, fastboot commands, basic android flashing)

Well I've played around with the phone for a bit and found out a different problem - the battery is absolutely pathetic. With data/location on I get under 1 hour of SoT, which is waaaayy less than what I get with my current 5 year old 2600mAh device.
So I figured I'd actually try some of the custom ROM as people seem to like it - is there any 'easy tutorial' out there how to do the whole thing step by step? I've seen some tutorials how to do root, or how to flash, how to install stuff, but never quite all together... Even though I'm very anti-technical type, it seems like it's a last possibility since with this battery, the phone is borderline useless to me

The first 2 video's explain basically how to unlock the bootloader and how to flash TWRP recovery. But check for updated files, the ones used in the video may be outdated by now.

So if I understood it correctly... I must follow these three steps (unlock bootloader, Root the device, install TWRP recovery and "S off"), and after that I just download and install the things that people share on the forums, such as this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...lineageos-16-1-unofficial-builds-pme-t3851614 ?
Also do you (or anyone) have experience with some of the custom roms? Does the battery get significantly better? Right now I lose more than 1% per 1 minute of watching video on youtube which is a bummer

You do not need S-OFF specifically and you do not root the device, you give root access to the running OS ! Don't mix that up. A custom rom has root access 99% of the time.
Do NOT expect wonders to your battery, if you get less than 1 hour screen on time either the battery is bad or you have a massive drain on an app. The OS won't likely improve this behavior. So dont get your hopes up that it will be 2 or even 3 hours after flashing just a custom rom.
Getting more battery life is a combination of running the proper custom rom and a custom kernel with usually the according app to customize it. Don't expect it all to be good with one press on a button, this is all pretty advanced.

Hmm I don't really see any app draining it... As for the battery, the phone was apparently checked sometime in 2016 and left in the box ever since... I know it's rather specific technical question, but do you suppose it's possible that the battery degraded so much from just sitting in the box?

Well yes everything at this point can be a possibility, i see many reports lately about bad batteries. I must say mines still oke, i get around 4 hours SOT and it get's me through the day easily without charging it.
In my opinion, 1 hour SOT or less is pretty sure a bad battery and a custom rom and kernel might stretch that but 4 hours you will never reach.

wifi works well at my home on 5ghz and 2.4ghz
usually just use 4g though outside of home network, since im now on unlimited data plan
accubattery is a pretty sweet app.
says my battery is at 77%, which seems about right. I can also get around 3.5-4.5 hours SOT on Nougat crdroid.

Yeah I was warned that battery life is a poor on Oreo update, but I couldn't quite figure out how to avoid the update when setting up the device... Yeah I actually got Accubattery myself, it shows that 1/3 of the battery is gonezo (2,069 MaH out of 3,000) straight out of box so it explains a lot.
I figured I'd try my luck with some of the custom ROM, but since I've never done it before I'm afraid I'm just going to brick my device... Still worth trying I guess :silly:

Nah, bricking is more on an ruu or messing with the aboot.img
Flashing a rom you should be fine. But I understand man.
I'm on AOSP N and getting decent battery with 77% battery, and this is from 80% charge. It's rare I charge above 80%
I've had my phone since release day.

WiFi is nothing to write home about, I gave up on 5ghz and use 2.4ghz as it reaches farther (more stable from 40ft distance to router).
I used to get up to 3hrs expected SOT (70%health) on the original battery per Accubattery, device was new, but sat on a shelf for a couple of years.
With new battery, expected SOT went to 4.5 hrs (100% health). It was worth the pain of opening it up and changing it (I also had to change the charge port, was causing ‘otg_default’ and ‘ohio_wakelock’ wakelocks eating into Sleep mode and reducing SOT indirectly.)
Check wakelocks with Betterbatterystats app, maybe you have similar issue.

Just curious, but do you have a link for the battery that you bought? I'm thinking of buying one but with all the ching brands to choose from I'm afraid I'm going to pick one that's going to explode and burn my house down with me in it :silly:

Battery draining like flies dropping dead on my brand new S20+ 5G Exynos..!! Any Help?

Recently bought a brand new S20+ 5G Exynos and it's running the latest March Security Patch update for Android 11. Problem is, after successfully rooting and killing off some of the ****ty bloatware that Samsung is obsessed to ship with it's Smartphones like Bixby, Samsung cloud, samsung games, pass, and much much more, my S20+ is losing single digit after every few minutes of just bare minimum usage like Browsing through apps, opening a simple utility or app or just wandering through the Settings Menu. I said it BARE MINIMUM since these activities do not cost so much pressure on the battery as running videos, games, installing and deleting and things alike. As I said, I turned off all the unncessary things like GPS, Display Brightness set to almost 20-30%, using BREVENT to keep all the background memory clear off of the background apps. I am not running any games, videos for that matter but my battery consistently losing a digit after every 8 mins I would say on these bare minimum activities. Sometimes even opening the screen and just scrolling through the app drawer drops 2 digits within 10 minutes. I set the display pixels to the lowest minimum and also disable the 125 Hz display smoothness effect.
I read in some posts that since Android 11, many users complained about constant and persisting battery drainage across multiple smartphone brands including Google Pixel users..
I am thinking of reverting back to Android 10 for my S20+. What do you people suggest?

As I said, nothing special in the Battery Usage as well. All the main components like Display and other multiple core system services are hardly using 2% and below.

if you used a backup to setup the phone (smart switch etc) this can cause battery drain. this is my personal experience. if you dont have 5g in your area disable it aswell.

I did not use Smart Switch. It came fresh out of the box. My brother sent it to me from Saudi Arabia. I just reflashed it with the Android 11 KSA Stock Rom and simply rooted it. Also disable Bixby **** and other unwanted Sammy Bloatware.
Yes, I do not have 5G currently in my area and my country as a whole except some 5G Trials.
How to disable 5G???
BTW I charged my Phone and I turned WIFI OFF. It just stayed there and I picked up the phone and just opened it and just used it for a couple of seconds and the battery came down from 99 to 97% on just simple Unlock and simple APP DRAWER browsing with WIFI Being off all this time.
Then I just opened the camera and took a couple of selfie shots and battery came down from 96% to 94% in just 2 mins. WiFi is still off. Only Sim card is active.

has to be some service that you disabled that is needed for some other sh** from Samsung.
If I were you, I would start all again, flashing the rom, test it without rooting it... see how much is the battery drain like that.... Try that method for removing the apps thru ADB connection without root, it works (search it here in xda)
