M8 EYE Owners - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We have any eye owners around here? I thought the dev community would pretty much be the same but it doesnt seem like I can flash the same ROM onto it from the M8.

[Q] "Standard" edition to Google Play

I just have a basic question. I'm considering the HTC M8 as my next phone, (waiting on Nexus 6 unveil first ) but was curious about how the Google Play edition and "normal" will work. Is it possibly to just transform the standard Sense phone to a stock android with OTA, and vice versa? And if not, are you simply able to flash each new build pushed to the Google Play editions on the standard Sense edition since it's the same hardware?
Thanks for the help!
Obviously I can't say how it's all going to happen here, but with my S4, I was rocking out a nearly stock GPE rom. It did have some visual and performance tweaks, so I never got to try the OTA updates, but as best as anyone could tell, the two devices were identical. With the GPE M8 apparently shipping out, I'd expect similar roms to hit the forums in short order.

Oooh glad to hear, thanks! I'll probably end up back here if we don't get a sexy metal bodied Nexus, and I really doubt we will
Can someone help me please?
I have bought a HTC m8 sense 6 version in the UK and want to make it GPE. How do I approach this?

i think that we should wait to have s-off... i suppose that conversion will be available soon after we get s-off, as here there are a lot of skilled developers that will prepare a convertion kit

Developer Support (lack thereof) for the HTC One E8

Hi XDA,
I had debated buying a m8 vs e8 and ended up buying the e8 due to dual SIM necessity for myself .
However, after buying this device, my biggest gripe is that there is absolutely near zero developer love for the e8. [emoji31]
The e8 is basically a m8 stripped of the IR blaster and camera changed. THAT'S IT.
Can the devs at m8 forums please show some mercy to us folks and release a tweaked version of their roms for the e8?<---once again this is a request or plea for some help, and thanks if you took the time to read.
Thanks and please let another xda lover or developer know if this can be done.

It will come eventually. Devs need to actually own/have access to a device to work on it. Most devs have the M8, not the E8.
Patience is needed. There will be something eventually.
Also, google is your friend.
This is what I got from a simple google search (e8 roms).

Thanks for the hopeful words!!
I'll wait for support to build up eventually.
I did a fair bit of googling, and I found ROMS (the precious little available ) are for the China Unicom version - m8sw and these don't work on m8sd. Just my luck eh??
Developers please make ROMs for e8 also...please
Please devs ... Please support m8sd ... We need more roms for this device

I thought every snapdragon device has development. But e8 eventually proved me wrong. No development so far .Not even cm.Even HTC desire 816 got unofficial cm.I m feeling screwed by choosing this device by selling off my canvas 4 which device got cynogenmod (though it is mediatek) and tons of roms.
Devs please have a look on e8.Device is gr8 in all terms but lacking development.
I posted all over xda and official Cynogenmod forum but no response yet.

Because most devs have the M8 and aren't interested in getting the e8 cause it's just not really any upgrade.
So yeah, as said development I'm sure will come, but I'd expect it to be fairly quiet. Won't be near what the M8 development is anyway.
Patience. ?
Any progress guys?

This won't help. We need to be noticed by the awesome developers on m8 development threads. They won't bother to look into a 'help' thread unless we post on their dev threads and beg them for mercy.

Take it upon yourself and make your own ROM
If you're after a stock rooted ROM then you can do that yourself easily. Then you can add tweaks with sense 6 toolbox and xposed.

Now a days E8 only serving purpose of playing high end games.
As well as their are 2 variants of same model. We have m8sd.so we have to find an Indian developer.:sly:

Begging likely won't help either. If a dev is not internally motivated to make a ROM (usually since they own the device) they usually won't just do so because you beg or request it. You can try to start a bounty to create a monetary motive. But really, your best bet is to make one yourself, as previously suggested.

The only way that will work is you buy and send to them an E8. They can't develop for a device they don't own or have access to.

Unless you're out for the most advanced thing in the world it will be easy. It takes patience but its something worth learning. I tried my hand at it, and since I was helpful around the forums I got help from countless devs (mostly from Team Venom) to learn to do what I wanted.
Although my main interest is themeing, I wanted to make something unique to my device and be able to say yes I did this myself.

Nice. Good luck. Its something I've always wanted to try my hand at, but my personal life (2 kids, including one new baby) just doesn't presently support it. There are a number of good guides on XDA, easily found by searching. This one caught my eye in particular, as it refers to MIUI, and is also very current and updated:

The only thing I called it my custom rom is to root it and delete some bloatware. LOL
Any E8 rom please? :C

ROM Comparison for MarshMallow

Hey guys so I've been doing a bit of research on the differences between many of the popular ROMs available but there doesn't seem to be much discussion on the most recent versions which are based off Android 6.0 MarshMallow.
So I ask that all of you that have used Android Revolution HD 20.0, ViperOneM9 4.3.0, LeeDroid V8.0.0, MaximusHD 7.1.0 or/and CyanogenMod 13 please vote in the poll BUT also provide your reasoning in replies. I'm not looking for the most popular ROM but the best ROM in terms of performance, battery life, stability, tweaks and customization, optimization. Please don't use the look of the ROM as a factor in voting since that is merely opinion.
So yea vote and reply guys, looking forward to seeing what people think about the different ROMs.
Rom comparison threads are generally frowned upon around here, and the answer will vary for everyone. Why not just try them all and see for yourself?

Because I've already customized my phone quite a bit on the ROM i am currently on so if I wanna go a different direction I have to be quite sure it's the right decision.

Then do a nandroid, and restore if you don't like the new one. That's actually best practice anyway.

Unfortunately this is a bit too time consuming for me at the moment. If I had more time, believe me I would try all of them. Don't forget to vote tho, you're on ARHD 20.0 right? Any particular reason(s)?

I've been on it since the M7. Its stockish, and I prefer the stock look rather than heavily tweaked.
So how does everyone elses opinion form yours, or are you one of those sheep that cant make your own decisions?
Just because one person likes something doesnt mean the world will follow uninhibited..

I'm am not looking for people OPINIONs, rather their experience with as little opinion/bias as possible. That is why I specified that people just talk about the difference in performance and options and not looks or how much they liked the ROM.
Thanks for your constructive reply though.
In that case, stock rom all day.

Compromise in terms of what exactly? I've seen people say that ARHD is one of the better performing ROMs but isn't ViperOne's added tweaks worth being a bit lower performing.

Unlockable bootloader?

I'm going to explain my situation from the start so no one gets confused. I bought an LG G4 h818p not knowing it wouldn't have an unlockable bootloader so I'm basically stuck with LG's horrible horrible UI. But I know a guy who's looking to exchange his HTC one m9 for my G4. His model number is 0PJA100. So I'm doing this just for a raincheck but does this model have an unlockable bootloader? If so, is development good for it? Custom Development is one of the things that matter most to me when buying a phone. So I don't know why I bought this LG.
Every variant except the Verizon one , can be unlocked with htcdevs website.

Regarding development: it depends on what you're looking for. We have many talented developers and development teams in both original Android development and Android development (ie, AOSP & stock based). HTC is neither the most or least developer-friendly, so results can be mixed.
Things that are currently hang-ups for non-stock ROMs include IR blaster, double-tap to wake, encryption, and some sound issues. You can get an idea of how that all is going by browsing the top threads in those forums.

Thank you for your answer. One more question, do you think it would be unwise to move to the m9 after having owned a g4? Camera isn't a big deal to me but I'd still like a decent camera. Is the m9's at least that? I just don't want to rush into another thing that I might regret later on.

I'm afraid I can't help you much in comparing the two: I've never had a LG G4 and don't know much about its camera. That said, I'm very satisfied with the HTC M9 camera. I use it occasionally and have no complaints.
