Running stock 4.4.4 on my AT&T Note 4. I have about 5-6 gmail accounts on it + 1 exchange account. Somewhere down the line of using it, my favorite contacts no longer display. All my contacts are viewable in the standard contacts list, but just not showing up in Favorites. I have confirmed that my favorites are indeed starred. I'm hoping to find an answer rather than wiping the device and setting it up again.
Thanks!

Settings>applications>application manager>all>contacts > clear cache.
If that doesn't work mane sure your contacts are backed up and also do clear data

I love my Evo but one problem I seem to have is getting my pictures from my people to match their current Facebook picture. When I originally linked all the contacts in my people it was correct to their pictures at the time but that was 2 months ago. Now, everyones picture is still the same as it was back then even though I go to accounts->sync every day and have it on auto sync for every 4 hours. Does anyone know how to fix this bug on my phone? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
I've done it by selecting settings, applications, manage applications, all tab, then select contacts storage and clear data... now your contacts must be backed up on google otherwise you'll lose all your contacts.. and just sync, sync sync
sorry for the noob response but how do i back them up with google?

If your contacts are created in your google account, meaning if you can log into gmail on your computer and your contacts are there, then they are already backed up.
If you create contacts on the internal phone storage, you are sol.
Go to people and hit menu and choose import/export. Back up the contacts that are on the internal phone storage to your sd card. Open up gmail in your pc browser and import those contacts to your gmail contacts, using the file that you backed up to the card.
Or what you can do is go to settings, accounts & sync and select facebook for htc sense, remove account, the add the account back

okay i did that and now only like 1/4th of my people have the little FB icon on the bottom left and only the people with the icon have statuses under their name. Also, when I try to link the people without the facebook icon, that person's name will not be on the list but if i choose someone else to link that first person's name is there. sorry if im confusing you guys haha I know its something small I just like to have everything right on my phone.
Wow people here are doing this the hard way. There is a facebook picture app that syncs your FB contacts picture. The other way is to just log out of facebook AND AND AND AND AND facebook for htc sense. then just log back into them both. easy as pie.
Hi there.
I have a rooted S4 mini Duos (GT-i9192) running I9192XXUBNB1 Android 4.2.2. I added my work's Exchange mail, and a personal pop3 account. The mail app looks like it went and rooted around *everywhere* and found pictures for some contacts, and added dozens of other addresses which appear to be fake senders of spam that had at one point been in the pop3 account's inbox.
Now whenever I start typing an address it comes up with lots of results which are just garbage which I cannot seem to remove.
I cleared the cache and data on:
Favourite Contacts
Google Contacts Sync
Samsung Contact SyncAdapter
I've logged into my gmail account (which I never use) and deleted all the contacts there, and told it not to sync contacts but still they remain.
I cleared both my mail accounts from the mail program, readded just the work Exchange one and it's still there.
The only time I ever see a reference to these addresses is when I'm composing mail. If I click/hold the address to try and get an option on it I don't. I can add it to contacts but of course I don't want that, I just want to delete them.
Any advice? I'm raging hard.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? Please?
Have you clear data and cache from the mail app? I think those ghost contacts are in your phone the contact app or were synchronized to your exchange account check there

I'd cleared all accounts but the mail app doesn't have a "clear data" option, it's greyed out. I had a look on Exchange but no contacts for these users there, not even in the "suggested contacts" box.
I'm getting close to nuking it and starting again. I'm sure as heck never buying Samsung again. It's as if I'm borrowing a phone from them and they're trying to determine how I can and can't use it.
I also noticed another issue: I have an app that requires a password to be entered on logging in, but the keyboard shows and even *caches* this password. I can remove it, but it'll automatically re-cache it unless I turn off all the learning features. Is this just some idiocy from the Samsung keyboard? And if so, is there a better one I can install?
I use a calendar program called Jorte. It allows me to either save my events on my phone or sync with Google Calendar. I refuse to deal with Google anything (except GMail) and Jorte saves the day.
What I cannot find is a Dialer with Contacts List that DOES NOT sync with Google Contacts. I really do not want my contacts residing on someone's server. I know it is too late and they now have the data, but new and future contacts I prefer to keep private.
So, a Stand Alone Contacts List that will link to the dialer and reside all contacts either on the phone or SD Card (for XT1045 owners). Is there anything out there that already exists or could one of our fantastic developers throw a simple apk together for us?
Thanks for reading.
I don't like my contacts to be on server, too. You just don't sync. Furthermore, I also use standalone calendar which doesn't sync with Google.

Jazzh, if I don't sync, or disconnect from my gmail account, my contact go away. Did you find a work around for that? I wonder if I were to put them in the favorites they would be basically saved to the phone. Hmmm...
Which rom do you have?
On every rom I had I could do what I described. And my contacts are not being deleted in any way...

Well, I thought I had done that before but did not work. I just tried it again (per you recommendation) and now it worked. I cleared out my Google Contacts list and the phone still shows the contacts. Thanks.
Glad it worked out for you . Cheers !
I synced my contacts from an Exchange account (365), but along with all my actual contacts in Outlook it's synced the address of just about everyone I've ever emailed or received an email from.
How the hell is this happening?
It's definitely syncing ONLY Contacts from the Exchange account.
Anyone else get this problem?
This happens to me sometimes.. go to contacts>three dots on top right> contacts settings>Contacts to display>Customize.

Thanks uly, I have tried that but it doesn't work. The only thing that is half-decent is to show only those with a phone number.

Nope, they're not. I start from nothing (none of the options checked) and Contacts shows nothing. Select my Exchange account under Customize, and it all comes back, all that crap.
Weird.
Had the exact same problem on 2 G4's (Long story...boughy first G4,thought it was too big, swapped for S6 Edge, battery sacked, back to 2nd G4).
I couldn't find any way around it. When I had a G2 and Xperia Z3, it would only sync actual contacts I had in Office365. But for some reason the G4, in your words, captures every contact I've ever sent an email to. Additionally, the native contact list, when synced with Honda's 2015 HFL system via Bluetooth, lists contacts by company name and not last name...no way to change this on the car or the phone...truat me, spent 2 hours trying.
My solution...downloaded Nine and now use it for email and contacts, but still use native for calendar. It only syncs actual contacts found in my Office365 contact list. Nine's calendar doesn't have the ability to check free/busy in corporate server, but native calendar does. Additionally, Nine also syncs seamlessly with my car, listing contacts by First Name, Last Name.
I'm happy with this solution and it wasn't all that hard to set up.
i was insanely annoyed by this as well. here's how i fixed it:
contacts > . . . > contact settings > contacts to display > customize > unselect Other Contacts.
these are the contacts that Gmail automatically creates when you email a person one or two times. i would assume doing this for exchange would also remove the frequently contacted contacts that are auto created. i had over 1000 contacts showing before this change. after? ~250

I guess you mean "Other Contacts" under the Google account? That's unchecked as well. EVERYTHING is unchecked, literally, except Contacts under my ActiveSync account. I cleared the Contacts Storage as well and they all came back. Feckin annoying.
TX - Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying it out now, but it's a bit sh1t having to spend £6.50 cos LG can't get it right.
No worries!
The strange part to me is that LG had it right with the G2, but clearly changed something with the G4.

One other thing I should have mentioned...disassociate your Office365 Exchange sync, power cycle the phone (this clears all the contacts), then install Nine.
Hey, so I've got this problem where I have added my work exchange account so I can view my world calendar and emails, but it's also showing the contacts I the phone app, I have checked and contacts are set not to sync. If I remove the exchange account, then the contacts go, then add the exchange account with contacts sync off they still come back into the native phone apps contacts, anyone know if this is a bug or if I'm missing a setting?
Go into contacts app, settings, contacts to display, customize, and uncheck your exchange account.

I don't have that option, I've looked for it several times today, each time baffled by it not being there... I'm using a pixel xl.... Are you?
I went into every option I could find and couldn't find it
I have it on my Verizon Pixel XL... Contact app (not the contact view inside of the phone app), settings, contacts to display, customize.

Don't worry found it now... I was looking in the phone app rather than the contacts app. Thankz
I'm also having the same problems. Even when unchecked in settings the contacts display. Using both native mail app and external app. Using pixel 5"
I like the outlook on my phone. The problem is I can see the contacts but I can't edit them. And when I do, it has to be from my office 365 account. I created my outlook account, unchecked the contacts sync and calendar and txt, then let it check mail. I don't think this made a difference but,
I force close the outlook app, went to application manager and cleared the data from the contacts, and contacts storage. Created a Gmail sync and only used contacts and calendar and disabled the email. So now when I change a contact. It actually saves. I also did what the previous post suggested and changed the view in the contacts app after I did all that.
