"Unknown baseband" only with custom roms - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Have a i9192 and I having a problem with baseband, I have been use CM12 and after an update I start to get "unknown baseband", I change to Pac-man and it stop, but I day using the problem start again, I change de modem and the problem stop but a day using and it start again, I flahs samsung firmware and the problem has solved, I try to use Ressurrection Remix and a day and half the same problem again, I come back to CM12 and it happens, so, just with custom roms I get that problem, and now I have it again using CM12, any tip of how to solve it don't flash every time a stock firmware?
My wifi signal is ok, no problem with that.
In the second picture, that error occurs if I try to enter in the Status

What version of stock firmware did u flash? Is it kitkat or jellybean.
Also what recovery do you use?
I recommend TWRP as it has an option to backup modem. So you can restore modem part of the backup when cm12 or any custom rom says
"unknown baseband"

I downloaded that two there, but I have installed the first (TTT) and both are a KNOX free version posted by SilviuMik, I update it from samsung and after that I flashed Ressurrection Remix (5.0.2), I'm using CWM 6.0.5.0 and Philz Touch 6.
Exist the possibility of any app that I downloaded from appstore doing this?

You are on the old bootloader with jellybean system. Try to update to latest stock kitkat. If your phone has no warranty now then no need to fear knox.
Also @SilviuMik please help @flipeicl . I think there is a way to update to stock kitkat without bootloader. Try that.

I have installed the 4.2.2 but updated to 4.4.2 via "samsung update", today I tried one more time to clean the custom rom to install a stock firmware, I entered in the CWM, I did a factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache, but Odin don't recognize my phone via USB in donwload mode, so I tried to restart the phone and install the USB driver, so for my surprise, the phone get a CM12 instalation (I don't know how), and now everything is working with modem i9192UBUCOB1, I will do more tests in these days.

Stock to Stock manual ROM update

Hi.
(First I would like you to bear with me since I am new to this. The more I read on this topic the more questions popped up.)
So here it is:
I need to MANUALLY update from stock firmware:
Model: GT-N7100
Country: Baltic
Version: Android 4.1.2
Changelist: N/A
Build date: Mon, 04 Feb 2013 09:47:52 KST
Product Code: SEB
PDA: N7100XXDMB2
CSC: N7100SEBDMA1
MODEM: N7100XXDLK7
Kernel 3.0.31-679347 [email protected]#1 SMP Preempt Mon Feb 4 09:47:52 KST 2013
To stock firmware:
Model: GT-N7100
Country: Greece
Version: Android 4.1.2
Changelist: 1071214
Build date: Fri, 31 May 2013 02:18:10 +0000
Product Code: EUR
PDA: N7100XXDME6
CSC: N7100OXXDMF1
MODEM: N7100XXDMF1
Downloaded the file from Sammobile. 1.1gb in zip format.
Prerequisites:
1. Binary count does not increase.
2. Be able to do future updates through OTA / Kies.
From what I read it is done through Odin but some say that it will increase binary count and then I have to flash stock kernel, wipe cache etc...
I have no idea what that is.
Will you please guide me step by step on this or post some links to follow.
Thanks
P.S. The device is never used, so there is nothing to backup.
Stock rom flashing doesn't raise counter.
You need not to worry and just flash straight way.
Downgrading can cause problem (corrupt imei) and needs backup, you are upgrading and so have no issue.
For detail guide you can find all in one N7100 on my signature and read installation instructions at end of first post.
If your device is non rooted then there won't have issue in update. But remember you will get updates of country depending on rom you going to have. Not from country you are living (if both are different)
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Thanks Doc
So after this, the device will be able to do future updates through OTA / Kies.
AND
this stuff "...then I have to flash stock kernel, do factory reset through recovery mode, wipe cache etc..."
is rubbish?
No need to flash any extra stuff, stock rom do have everything inside package. And all components kernel, modem, recovery, bootloader, cache, and system also will update by simply flashing a rom.
Yeah sometimes you may get stuck at samsung logo or may device get bootloop after flashing a rom. At that time you needs wipe cache and wipe data (factory reset) from recovery. But this can happen with kies too. So i recommend to make backup of your important data before any kind of flashing.
Yes you will get update on kies and ota.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ok.
I have successfully flashed the update via odin and *#1234# confirmed the values given above.
(Before I continue I just want to verify that the above procedure will KEEP settings and apps downloaded up to before the application of the above. Y/N)
However,
Going into recovery mode, I get the following (in yellow beside the droid icon):
#MANUAL MODE#
--APPLYING MULTI CSC--
APPLIED THE CSC-CODE: SEB
SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED MULTI-CSC
note that SEB was the CSC before the update.
How can I get rid of this? (Did factory reset and wipe cashe through recovery).
Furthermore, Kies (OTA too?) concerns are raised reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186410
P.S This device has a hard time get an IP off my router, the first time I had to power off / on the router in order to connect, and now (after the flash) is not connecting again. I have 3 other android devices connecting to the same router no problem. (DHCP range is sufficient for all, even though they are hardly connected all simultaneously)
Help please..........
I just connected it to kies, it says this is the latest firmware but it lists BTU for CSC!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go figure

Phone not booting up after installing Omega rom v29

Hi all,
I just downloaded and installed v29 (4.4.2), upgrading from v19 (4.1.2). I followed the instructions of formatting /system, /preload and /cache and the Dalvik cache. Now the phone turns on but is stuck in the booting screen. I can still access CWM but reinstalling v29 hasn't helped. Hopefully I can recover from this situation? Thanks in advance for your help!
Update: I just formatted the /sdcard and reinstalled the rom, but phone is still stuck on the booting screen.

I am downloading a custom ROM from sam mobile. Version:
Model: GT-N7100
Model name: GALAXY Note II
Country: France
PDA: N7100XXUFND3
I am planning to flash this on top of the v18 (4.1.2) that i have now to get 4.4.2. I will then install v29 on top of that. when would i require to flash 4.2.2 root file?

Don't flash 4.4.2 Stock, this way you will get Knox counter.
Which means once rooted, your phone's warranty will be void.
Flash the 4.1.2 stock. Then flash a custom ROM and MJ5 Bootloader.

There is.
This is not what I ment
4.4.2 has KNOX 2.0, which has a nasty warranty void next to it, that cant be nulled.
Unlike Binary Count on 4.1.2, or 4.2?
I found 4.1.2 on Sammobile.
Said counter is in Download mode.
i have the same problem, i flash 4.4.2 from 4.3 omega rom. but it keeps on boot screen with omega guy walking. what did i do wrong? how can i solve this? i am trying to flash rom from my external sd card.

[Q] Want to be sure this rom matches the phone and searching for a arabic rom

Dear
For the firsttime I installed enhanced236_06.08.2012 on the Phone.
I first had to provide root access to the device, ( superuser v2.3.6.1 added c database version 5 )
then I had to replace the recovery by a custom recovery: cwm-based recovery v5.0.2.6
I backup up the Original rom, then rebooted, but the system keeps booting (samsung text and the blue background kept coming up).
So I just flashed it to enhanced236_06.08.2012.
Phone is now working again.
Now I found another rom that include arabich language, but according to information on the internet, this rom could be a bad one?
Model: GT-S5660
Model name: GALAXY Gio
Country: United Arab Emirates
Version:
Changelist: N/A
Build date: Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000
Product Code: XSG
PDA: S5660JPKT7
CSC: S5660OJPKT5
MODEM: S5660XXKT6
the information on the Phone after flasing to enhanced236_06.08.2012 is :
android version 2.3.6
baseband version: S5660XXKPA
kernelversion: 2.6.35.7-px-based-kernel [email protected] #20120607
buildnumber: enchanced236_05.08.2012
the orginal infor is/was:
Android versie: 2.3.3
baseband versie: s5660xxkpa
kernelversie: 2.6.35.7-perf-cl561624 [email protected] #1)
I noticed that the MODEM number (S5660XXKT6) of the arabisch rom, differs from the baseband version ( s5660XXKPA) of the Original and the installed custom rom.
Is it maybe that if the baseband are not the same, te rom will not work?
Also to install this arabic rom, I was told to use Odin v3.09. and reboot Phone in download mode, ... . I have to search how to do this as I never have done it before.
But when I installed the enhanced236_06.08.2012 I just booted to the recovery mode, and installed the zip file that I saved on the sdcard.
could I also use this method to installe the arabic rom?
Are there other alternatives to install a arabic rom? I prefer a rom that is fast and doesn't take a lot of space, as the intern memory is very small (after installing enhanced , 47MB is used and 132MB is free. or maybe another method to have arabic as a language on this Phone?
the next step will be to make sure the apps install on the sd card, so I hope I can find a rom that allows this and has arabic language, next to other languages (engllisch, maybe also Dutch and Spanish?)

The modem will not cause the phone to not boot up. The only difference flashing a different modem might cause network issues and gps not to work(atleast in my case it happened when I flashed UAE Stock ROM). Also I have a question did u flash cwm ext4 or cwm rfs? For stock rom you need to flash cwm rfs+ext4 instead of ext4 only.

Ok, If I try it out, can I still go back to my backup and the gps issues and network issues will be gone?
About your question, I'm not really familliar with al these concept, it's my first time I flasheda android Phone, but I'm a quick learner... .
This is what I have found on the internet to be able to install the cwm:
NOTE: Your Phone Must be Rooted and must be above 2.3.3 to Install ClockWork Recovery
.
Download the CWM 5.0 v2 and copy to the Root (not in any folder) of your SD card
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select the downloaded file from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
the name of the file I downloaded is: px-cwm-v2.zip .
There is nothing said about cwm ext4 or cwm rfs on this forum, I'm not sure If I'm allowed to put the link here?
So If I want to install Original rom (= stock rom), I need to flash cwm with the properties you named? Can you show me the thread on xda forum that shows how?
How can I see if I used both or not? (cwm ext4 or cwm rfs?).

If that backup is a custom ROM then no since custom ROM's have a ext4 filesystem while Stock ROM's have RFS filesystem.
Secondly if u want to flash stock ROM then you'll need Odin 4.42 and gio pit file. And if u want a custom recovery for stock it should be CWM ext4+rfs. Look for MoltenMotherBoard's(MMB) CWM.

Now I want to be sure I can go back to my original ROM before I try the arabic ROM. How can I see it the cwm I used ( cwm-based recovery v5.0.2.6) can support RFS filesystem, so I will be able to put back the original ROM?
I already flashed stock ROM on this smartphone, ( enhanced236_06.08.2012 ), without using Odin 4.42 (still have to see how that works). I just used recovery mode and put the custom rom on the sd card.
I will check MoltenMotherBoard's(MMB) CWM on google.

1.You can a restore Custom ROM backup. What I meant was you can't restore back to stock ROM recovery backup after you flashed a custom ROM.
2.If you backup Custom ROM(the one your using now) using recovery you're basically backing up all your apps and data with the system. Ofcourse you can download another Custom ROM flash it.
3.May I ask why are you using such a old recovery? You can find the newest recovery by checking the index thread in Android Development and flash the ext4+rfs.

Well, like I said before, It's my first time I flashed a android phone. I found a forum that has how to's, very easily to follow , about how to root, install custom recovery and flash a custom rom. Straight to the point.
I will check the thread.
I cant find the thread. I think im not looking on the right forum. i went to the head of this forum of this model of the phone.
Can someone maybe give me a step by step to do list on how i can make sure i have ext4? how to check it on the stock rom I backed-up and on the custom rom?
I read about it. It seems that ext4 filesystem is faster then rf filesystem. So if i can win speed, then i want this filesystem. Or is the speed difference not that great?
I did not quite understand the backup restore :
Stock rom uses rf file system. So there are no stock rom with ext4 filesystem?
If i flashed a custom rom that has ext4, i cannot go back to the stock rom because it has rf filesystem? Do i understand this correctly?
So i want to be sure if I try the arabic stock rom( or is the UAE rom a custom rom?) and wifi / gps are not working well after flashing, i can go easily back by restoring to the original rom i backed-up using cwm mentioned in previoses thread.
Or do i have to use another cwm?
But if its not by any way possible to restore the original rom, i can always flash a custom rom to solve the gps / wifi problem that might be caused by the arabic rom?
Dear
these are my latest findings.
After doing some research about the basics of flashing a android phone, using the terms that were used in this thread, I have some more understanding about how it works.
So I went to give it a try to install the arabic ROM:
Model: GT-S5660
Model name: GALAXY Gio
Country: United Arab Emirates
Version:
Changelist: N/A
Build date: Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000
Product Code: XSG
PDA: S5660JPKT7
CSC: S5660OJPKT5
MODEM: S5660XXKT6
It works. With Odin 4.42 and a file named GIO_v1.0.ops the GT-S5660 was connected. As you said I had to use these to flash a stock rom. can a backup of an original ROM be flashed ? you said no.
But I wil save you the problems I had when I was flashing the stock ROM. So it is possible to install back a stock ROM after a custom Rom is installed.
I did not install the orginal stock rom of the smartphone, but went directly to the arabic to see if gps will work great.
But as you said and as I see it for myself: gps is not working. I tested it with an app called 'maps(, from google). gps signal could not be found (it keep searching for a gps signal.
I want to try something:
I found out that with Odin you either flash a one package rom or seperate files. one of those files begins with MODEM. So If I could find the the same ROM but not one packaged but several files. And I also find the MODEM file that matches my original stock rom (or any other custom rom that has the same modem number), I would then switch the MODEM file and flash my GT-S5660.
And I always can fix the smartphone using Odin 4.42.
Does someone knows where I can found these seperate ROM files?

I'm currently using philz_touch_6.15.4-d2att and have also tried current versions of CWM and Twrp with the same results. CM11 and CM10.2 were both tried as well as editing the updater-script in the Cm11 zip file and removing the "assert checks".

6.15.4 is too old to flash kk roms. Status 7 errors can be caused by an outdated recovery.
Try the latest fir the d2lte from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/

I did try the latest CWM and Twrp with the same results. I flashed AOKP just fine. Something strange about my phone. Maybe it has something to do with me replacing my motherboard recently? Relaced my Sgh-T999 with the Sgh-i747???
Anyways, it's back up and running
Thanks,
Robert

[Q] Why IMEI is different when installed android 4.1.1 than installed 4.4.2

I'm very sorry for my bad english...
I bought a new galaxy note 2 N7100, it comes with android 4.1.1
When I try to upgrade to 4.4.2 via 'Software updates' menu I receive a message 'your device has been modified software updates are not available'.
At the 'Download Mode' screen I see CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM & SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM.
So I installed a Stock ROM 4.4.2 from here: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/38904/N7100XXUFNJ1_N7100OJKFNJ1_ILO.zip/
Now when I try update via 'Software updates' menu I receive a message 'Connecting to server > the latest updates have already been installed'
At the 'Download Mode' screen I see CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official & SYSTEM STATUS: Official
Fantastic!
But now the IMEI has been changed (normal valid number no generic) and the 3G network works well.
I want return the phone back to the seller therefore I need to restore the previous version 4.1.1
So I did 'Reset to factory' and I installed a Stock ROM 4.1.1 from here: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/7562/N7100XXALIH_N7100OJKALIH_ILO.zip/
After the installation had occurred magic! the original IMEI was restored!
When I try to upgrade to 4.4.2 via 'Software updates' menu I receive again the message 'your device has been modified software updates are not available'.
At the 'Download Mode' screen I see again CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM & SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM.
Now I don't want return the phone back..
I upgraded to the latest version via Samsung Kies and after upgrading I see that the IMEI was changed again, now it's the same number as the previous time that installed 4.4.2
It is very strange this story.
Why after original Stock ROM 4.1.1 installation the 'Current Binary' and 'System Status' are 'Custom' and why can not update via 'Software Update' ?
Why when the Stock ROM 4.4.2 is installed the phone has X IMEI and when the Stock ROM 4.1.1 is installed the phone has Y IMEI (X is always the same Y is also always the same but X and Y are different, also they both are valid - 3G works well) ?
I only want install the latest official ROM - Android 4.4.2 and keep the original IMEI
Someone can help me how to do this?
Thanks very much in advance.
How could you return to 4.1.1 after flashing 4.4.2 via Odin.. the bootloader won't let you boot 4.1.1.
Check again, was it 4.4.2 or 4.1.2?

Thank you for answer.
I'm sure that is 4.1.1
I have installed the 4.4.2 from: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/38904/N7100XXUFNJ1_N7100OJKFNJ1_ILO.zip/,
and the 4.1.1 from: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/7562/N7100XXALIH_N7100OJKALIH_ILO.zip/
You can look there.
The Stock ROM 4.1.1 from sammobile contains boot.img file, I think that is the bootloader, this is true?
But why is this fact: when the Stock ROM 4.1.1 is installed the phone has X IMEI (original) and when the Stock ROM 4.4.2 is installed the phone has Y IMEI (X is always the same Y is also always the same but X and Y are different, also they both are valid - 3G works well) ?
