my lg g3 is stuck on a boot loop on start up i got this after upgrading to lollipop and didnt even try of flashing custom roms. i flashed it back to kitkat stock rom but this didnt solve the problem. the interesting fact is that the phone boots without any flaws when connected to the official charger but not with other android chargers with lower capacities so i'm really tempted to replace the battery i want to know whether this is happening due to a faulty battery

Is it not normal for a battery to malfunction while being charged with the incorrect current?
Why are you discussing the same subject in two threads? Was it necessary to open another?

It does sounds like a bad battery and having a lower capacity charger would indeed not work if your battery isn't giving out enough power.

The other thread wasn't his, he just posted in it.
Same subject but he had to create another thread, of his own. Priceless justification.
Turn off the phone. Charge it to 5% at least and then try to boot without charging. If it does not work, your battery is faulty. If it does work, stop using that crappy charger for booting on an empty battery.

well it shows 85% charge but still in a boot loop
i recently had the same problem where my phone randomly rebooted. It got worse and worse until it just looped on the reboot sequence. However the phone worked perfectly while attached to the mains. I took it in to the phone shop and they did a factory reset which made no difference. They said it was a software issue and to send it back to LG to get fixed. I thought that if the phone worked while plugged in then it must be a battery problem so i ordered a new battery from amazon and that has fixed it. I am now trying to get LG to repIace the original battery as it must be faulty and is only a few months old.
if your using a wrong charger with a different power output than the one suited for the phone then the battery might malfunction, and might not start the solution for this problem is to get the battery replaced and use the charger that came with phone in the future.

Couple of weeks ago my gnex fail to start a boot after my battery used up to %0. I used a wall charger but it did not help, I mean there were no charging screen, no boot animation, no vibration that indicate start boot. I assumed battery was so low, it would not boot enough to charge, so I used an cheap battery charger to charge the battery, then everything worked as expected. this happened one more time, that made me think there was a issue about the rom or some software, but I did not act on it. Then a few days ago my phone rejected to try to boot even with full battery.
I search the forums, and find out connecting to wall charger then inserting battery will trigger a boot, and it really did. Then I flashed official google image to see if it fixes the issue but no luck, then I tried odin flash with repartitioning, still no luck.
Currently I am on full stock on my gnex. If I shut it down, no matter which button/combination I try, it won't trigger a boot. If I connect to a wall charger while battery is in, screen does not turn on and charging does not start. If I remove the battery, connect to wall charger, then insert the battery, charging screen came up, then if I press power button for ~5 second it boots to android like everything is okey, and after boot starts, I can disconnect the charger, no issues about battery.
I have no clue what might be causing this. Power button works, battery works, rom/software works, are there anyone with some ideas what might be causing this?
it is very interesting. may it be battery problem?

I tried a friends battery on my device, and my battery on his, mine did not boot, but his one did, I don't think there are anything wrong with battery.
It boots now but unstable
Hi again. Not booting issue seems to be fixed (without doing anything) but now it reboots when I try to download anything. I used stability test to check if cpu or gpu has any issue, the test did not found any issue.
I am suspecting my internal storage causing this issues, but I could not find any tool to check/fix it. Are there anyone that knows a way to do so?
I wanted to report back my last status. The phone is working normally know. I tried out flashing different kernels, and at some point, random reboots stopped. To verify, I downloaded several GB of files, tested with antutu and 3dmark, everything looks normal.
Long story short, I have no idea how it got fixed, but it did. I suggest anybody with my situation to keep trying, I bought a g2 thinking it would not be usable, I regret that decision now.
Hi guys, I'm experiencing some power issue with my ZL. I have recently updated via Seus to .283 firmware....once I reboot, it gets to the Sony screen and then it shuts down. If the phone is plugged in it boots fine and remains on. The battery charge shows 80%. Afterwards I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the KK advanced kernel to see the battery percentage in recovery and it also shows 80%. Is there anyway to check if its the battery without replacing it?

There is a battery testing app for Sony devices (you can find it here), but, obviously, it requires your phone to be able to stay on battery power for the time of the testing...
What happens with your phone if you unplug the charger once fully booted? Does it immediately shut down, or is only happening during startup?
The phone shuts down immediately after I remove the usb cord. Offline charging looks as though it's working. I'll see what the app says, thank you.
* btw the phone stays on when in recovery which is odd
* the battery app requires you to remove power which I cannot do
* help me!..using a Z Ultra at the moment...things huge!

Well, yeah, that's what I meant saying the phone has to be able to stay on battery...
I think (just an uneducated guess ) that the recovery doesn't have a mechanism to analyze battery health/status, but the Android OS does (and so does the bootloader). That's why it stays on in recovery, but when booted (or in the process of booting) into the OS, the system somehow thinks that the battery level is too low, and shuts down as a safety measure. I have seen multiple times that the battery levels shown in recovery and in Android are drastically different, which kinda confirms my thoughts...
All in all, it looks to me like your battery is acting up. Just to save you an effort and expense of getting a new battery, at least until you know for sure the battery is the problem, I can suggest something to you... I am expecting a replacement for my battery in a day or two. My old (current) battery still works, it's just old and doesn't last very long, that's why I am replacing it. I could send the old one to you (Vancouver to Winnipeg is not a big deal), so you can try it out to pinpoint the problem. If it works, then you know it's the battery, and you can either buy a new one, or keep my old one for the time being. If you are OK with the idea, just send me a PM with the address to send it to.
I think I'm just going to buy a battery of ebay. I really appreciate your offer to send me your old battery, but its probably best I go new since I don't want this issue arising again. Thanks again for all your help.

No problem! I was just thinking you could use my battery to confirm the problem before buying the new one, not to keep it for the long term, of course (that would be silly). But I am pretty sure it's the battery, anyway... Good luck!
I was wondering if the battery ever fixed the problem, I am having the same issue
really mad, I'm going on a business trip and this started happening. this week I updated the firmware to 293.
I didn't know you could replace the ZL battery.
After 2 years of use, my phone suddenly just died when I was playing a game. It won't boot without the charger ever since. I'm so sad because I expected this phone to last longer
Hi guys
My Optimus G is dying on a slowly and painful way...This time I have the following problem:
Phone was working perfect except for its battery life (lasting 5 hours at max), but it started to turn off by itself randomly.
Then, I started to bootloop, when I decided to flash another ROM, but now, everytime that try to flash ANYTHING the phone turns off while flashing. I can perform full wipe, but when I try to flash, power goes off.
Is there anything that can do? Is it completely dead?
Thank you guys!
i think i have the same problem, but mine shuts down while booting, i can flash roms normally.
still have to wait for my battery to arrive, going to change it to find out if it fix the problem

my phone is also off for last couple of weeks. when i put phone on charger it powers on and then shut downs automatically after lg logo. Phone remains on if i put phone into recovery mode but it didn't allow to flash any rom because whenever i try to flash rom after wipe it power off itself.
I also tried remove and put battery back trick but it also didn't work don't know its battery issue or something else

It seems very similar to what is happening with me. Tomorrow I'll try to put the phone back to the stock rom and see if it works.
As soon as I do it, I post the if it works.
i have tried flashing stock 4.1.2 and it work a little bit better. but i need to boot it while plug in. when its booted it stays on. the phone shuts it self down when receiving calls. Did not try any other apps while it's on still have it stock.
I don't know why this is happening, is it so that now a days you can't keep your phone longer than you expected, problem came up after a few years,so they force you to replace your phone once a while.

Yeah...When I bought this phone I was living in Korea and couldn't use due carrier's problems. Then I moved back to my homecountry and that phone, after 8 months of usage almost exploded while charging (an absurd overheat)...Since that, the phone started with battery issues and ghost touches problems. The ghost touches stopped and I replaced the battery but now it doesn't work at all. How the hell LG makes a premium device (highend in 2013) that couldn't last a year after unboxing???? That's why I've decided to move back to Motorola, Samsung and HTC...My Galaxy Nexus could resist the meteor that killed the dinosaurs, and this crappy Optimus G can't even CHARGE without destroying itself.
Another LG device? Never!
i just replace my battery, and my phone is work like new again. For now my problem is fixed
new T-5 battery saved my phone. Replaced it yesterday. Phone is back on Sling rom
I know. I've seen the threads for battery drain and such, but I don't think there's a problem with "drain" so much, as perhaps a bad battery altogether.
I'm using my old M8 for my daughter, but after RUU, and setting up latest TWRP and all, then trying to install a custom ROM whether Stock or AOSP, when I boot into recovery, it goes from 100% within the ROM, to show 80% in recovery.
If off the charger, there does appear to have some battery drain, but I chalk that up to normal first usage.
However, it then shuts off @ 30%, but when I put it on the charger, it says @ 60%.
I've done the calibration method (hold all buttons for 2 minutes) trick, but there appears to be no help for the erratic battery readings.
Does anyone know if my suspicion is correct?
I'm on Sprint's last RUU.

Ive seen so many posts now that refer to the exact thing you mention. Phones turning off at 20-30%. Its claimed that this is due to a faulty battery and a replacement has fixed it. I do not have this problem, however, I did get a replacement 12 months ago.
That's what I'm afraid of.
Did you replace it yourself, or have a tech do it?

AND the battery temp always shows 25C, but besides that everything is ok, waiting for the battery yo settle.
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this the right place to be but I have had my robin for about 1.5 years now.
I think near January I started having issues with battery with the stock firmware (like instantly dying at 15% and such)
So I had decided to unlock and root my robin.
I've tried three different Custom ROMS:
Resurrection Remix
Hexagon
Another rom which I don't recall.
They are all 7.1 or 7.1.2.
Currently on Hexagon.
But all of the have the same issues.
My phone dies at 50% battery (or sometimes less if I'm lucky) for all three roms and I wouldn't be able to boot the firmware.
But I would be able to boot to recovery and see that there is still 50% battery and the battery would be able to discharge until 0.
Can anybody please help me?
I tried battery calibration apps, but it didn't help.
*edit* Also wanted to add, my phone lasts about 30 mins before it reaches the 50% threshold (while reading articles and such) before it crashes sometimes at 50%, 40% or 30%.
Thanks!

This also happens to me under the same conditions. The phone will power off around 30-40% for no reason, though the phone won't power off until 0% while in TWRP. I'm currently on Omni but I'm going to flash AOSIP soon. This issue also happened on LOS and LOS based ROMs such and Hexagon and RR.
It can't be a hardware issue can it? Unless voltage is the issue. Not sure
Oh yeah!
the other ROM I had used was OMNI.
Yesterday I tried factory resetting and installing stock ROM.
But the same thing happpened.
It's either software OR somehow our battery is old and has a flash drop in voltage causing the OS to shutdown.
I had another occurence yesterday.
After the shutdown at 50%, I kept it running to about 45% in recovery and then it would be able to turn back on until maybe 30%, where it would shutdown and no be able to boot anymore but had 30% battery in recovery.
Got tired and right now using my Nexus 5 back up phone.

I am quite sure it's voltage yes, that can only be fixed with a new battery sadly. Might have to buy a new phone D: Honestly can't be bothered replacing the battery as I don't want to damage the phone.

Thanks! I was hoping it wasnt :/ lame.
So then now the question I'm wondering is how come the battery for nextbit degraded so fast when my 3-4 year old nexus 5 battery is still pretty good. :/
I was a kickstarter backer but now I think I'll be off Nextbit/Razer unless, I get the phones for free I guess.
I've been thinking, would there be a way to trick the phone into thinking it's being charged but in fact it isnt?
maybe a USB solar powered patch...it would not be enough to charge the phone but it should be enough to trick it into no going into 0 voltage.

Same issue with my phone. It's so bad now I can get it to power off even at 90% depending on what I use like record video. And I mean power off and not a force close as it will give me the pop up stating as such.
Anyone know of a third party company that will replace the battery or some trick to where my phone doesn't to do this anymore? I was also a backer and would like to enjoy my limited edition phone a bit longer.

Oddly I can get the phone to last longer by watching YouTube or Netflix, I have no idea why. Once or twice I managed to get the phone all the way to 0%, only then it turned off.
I've tried many things from battery calibration and flashing all sorts of roms and tweaks, even flashing older roms based on marshmallow. Nothing seems to work.
I seriously doubt you can find a third party company that'll replace the battery for you (Though if you find anything, LET US KNOW), considering that replacement batteries on themselves are pretty scarce. Plus the phone isn't the easiest of phones to tear apart without damaging it, sadly.
I hope you find a way to keep this awesome phone lasting a little longer.
I've tried Lineage, Carbon and just loaded up Paranoid. They all die at around 40%. It's been demoted to a tinker toy now. Maybe Nextbit can push out that almighty battery software upgrade they announced months ago...

It's not a software problem. And Nexbit/Razer no longer push out updates or give support anymore AFAIK.
The only way you can fix this problem is to replace the battery, or buy a new Robin.
I had the same problem. My Robin started to shut down at around 45% suddenly. Unfortunately, I can't find replacement battery on eBay or Taobao...

I ended up purchasing a new phone and it's doing well. My old midnight robin and my Mint one now have the same issue. My midnight robin doesn't even charge anymore. I looked for battery replacements but even if you did find one there is a high chance you'd break the phone taking it apart/putting it back together.

The battery issue is so annoy and it lead me to buy a new Pixel 2 instead. It's just a shame that I only own Robin lesser than a year.
I too recently started facing this problem it would shut down between 20-30%. I am on Carbon ROM.
UPDATE :
Something very odd happened.
I flashed OmniROM last weekend.
Its been a week and my battery issue i.e. shutting down randomly between 20-30% has gone.
I plugged in the charger at 2%.

Nope always did a clean flash, total 100% wipe through TWRP.
I was on AOSP, clean flashed to Carbon and now clean to Omni.
While on AOSP, all was fine never had sudden shutdown at XX% it would only shutdown if I try to check twitter or read on pocket or text or maps below 5-8% which I think is normal.
On Carbon it was working fine at first, 2-3 days later at 20% it just shut down in 2-3 minutes of just texting (no images, no videos, just text) This happened for few more days then I cleared the cache & dalvik and it didn't help, later it became worse. Instead of shutting down at 20% it started shutting down anywhere around 25%.
Most people said its the battery issue and it needs replacing. Some said its battery calibration issue. I assumed the worst and thought its battery issue and stayed cautious.
Now I switched to Omni and suddenly its all fine. So I assume its the battery calibration issue? Clean flash did that too maybe? I don't know but I am just assuming that happened.
Update, @/root? Has your battery remained functional under Omni?
