ViPER4Android and Adaway on Lollipop? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried installing both apps, both apps install but they have no effect on rooted android 5.0 (stock LG rom)
So for Viper4android, first I rooted my phone, than installed viper as a normal app. The app installed but it gave no sound effect. Than I changed SElinux to permissive and tried to install viper as a system app. But I think /system/app is changed in 5.0 as I don't see apk's there but folders with apk files (see screenshot). Moving ViPER4Android_FX_A4.x.apk there doesn't work (it actually moves but nothing happens). How can I get viper working on Android lollipop?
The second question is the same question for Adaway. It installs but has no effect. How to fix this?

Hi,
I just resolved my issues with Adaway. My hosts file was updated but I had ads everywhere, none seemed to be work.
The problem was caused by unusual automatic APN config for my network (giffgaff), in APN configuration was proxy server, I setup new APN with official configuration and that solved my problem.
If you're on different network, try just delete proxy.

I have same issue with giffgaff network. A lot of ads are not blocked, but they are when connected wireless. @lukas77 what settings did you use for new APN?

Use giffgaff APN helper from PlayStore and setup new APN using this app, the app works as a keyboard, you need to enable it in language and keyboards options, then go to APN settings and setup new APN, unfortunately you can't edit or remove automatic apn configuration so set a new one and switch APN.

[Q] APN Settings not available?

After successfully installing the latest ARHD for my GNex, I noticed I had no mobile connection at all (I'm with Telus). The FAQ for ARHD said to check APN settings, which is fine I remember having to input them manually on a friend's Desire HD (Telus) after installing the rom. For some reason, APN setting aren't even visible in my mobile network menu. What am I missing guys? Any insight would be awesome!

[q] htc desire 816 (vm) mms....

Hey, I have a HTC Desire 816 (US) for Virgin Mobile. I like the Google Messenger and Hangouts app however I can't seem to send or receive MMS for either app. The stock Messages app works just fine. I've done some research and it appears I need to look into my APN settings. However, I have no idea how to get to those on the phone. The directions that are given lead to know where. Can anybody tell me how to fix this. Thank you.
You probably need to download an app from the play store, I think the one I used for CyanogenMod was called Change APN. Just opens the APN menu for you. Also, the one site I found with Virgin Mobile US APN details had it wrong. But if you're on CM 12, their pre-set APN for VM is correct, you just need to select it in the menu. For the Sense-based ROMs, they don't seem to have it by default.

Thanks for trying to help. I am currently on stock rom and it appears that Virgin Mobile has the APN on lock down. I have not found a way changing it and getting it to work. Everytime I try to add a new apn with CHANGE APN app it says saved but doesn't add it. The one that's in there has a locked symbol on it. It could be because I am on stock rom. However I am rooted and S-Off, I still can't change it. I haven't tried CyanogenMod because I want a fully functional phone. Anybody else have any ideas. All I want to do is use hangout or google messenger with MMS and it work. I think it stupid that its included on the phone and it's not even fully functional. I can get chompsms to work but it has it's own apn settings.

That's interesting cause I personally use hangouts and am also on stock and rooted with s off and it works fine for me. What kind of error is it giving you? Is it immediately failing or failing after trying to send for awhile?

Wi-Fi calling disappeared

I rooted my phone using the odexed method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3185274
The Wi-Fi calling option has disappeared and I haven't been able to find a solution while searching XDA. I have an Airvana at home but it requires that I switch from LTE/CDMA to CDMA network and reboot so I would like to try Wi-Fi calling. Is there something I can flash that will restore Wi-Fi calling?
Thanks!

Do you by chance have xposed installed?....if not then just reinstall ROM again, this wont change anything except for getting rid of xposed and sound mods, if you even have those, but reinstalling rom will make it reappear again without changing anything, besides those mods.
So by having xposed installed you lose Wi-Fi calling?

You must have installed Wanam Xposed module prior to the update of 1.2.2? (Wanam Module, not Wanam Xposed framework.)
Prior to the update, Wanam module was causing csc issues with default to missed calls rather than all calls in call log. Also causing Wi-Fi calling to drop out of Settings.
The update fixes that but doesn't reverse the existing issues prior to that. The fix is to go to make sure you've updated the module, goto /system/csc folder and verify you have both feature.xml and feature.xml.bak If so, delete feature.xml and rename the .bak as feature.xml and make one change in Wanam module to generate the new feature.xml correctly. Reboot and that should be fixed.
For sacs ROM, some have also reported Wi-Fi calling volume issues at max volume. Drop by one click of in-call volume to fix that. Odd but confirmed by multiple users.

Excellent.
I did have xposed and wanam installed. I uninstalled them, deleted them from my Titanium backup history, ran a new backup, then did a hard reset using the link from my original post. I haven't restored anything from the backup yet but still no WiFi calling option in the settings. The WFC Settings and WiFi Calling apps are listed in the application manager but no way to open them.
What should i do now?
I would factory reset if I were you.

See my post above. You should still have a /system/csc/feature xml.bak
If so, delete the original and remove the .bak extension which is the original. Reboot.
Unless you flash the ROM again, I don't see this fixing itself by the means you have taken. Factory reset wouldn't do that either.
That said, a clean install with Xposed module 1.2.2 or higher shouldn't induce the Wi-Fi calling dropping out of settings any longer. I think I'd avoid restoring old settings to Xposed module until you have normal function, then backup those settings to restore later.

Clean install the ROM again. If it includes Xposed make sure you update Xposed module prior to setting it up.

I've uninstalled all things Xposed, so Ill start from scratch.
After talking with samep some more, he suggested this...
Can you check your /system/csc/feature.xml for this line:
<CscFeature_Common_Sprint_Vowifi>true</CscFeature_Common_Sprint_Vowifi>
If it's not there, add it, save it and reboot.

apns-conf.xml location in LOS 16?

I've spent the last day or so looking here on xda and across the web for an answer to this, and I can't seem to find it.
I just freshly installed the Nightly from 2/20 onto my T-Mobile OP7P, and one of the things I always do first is edit the APN settings, including adding 'dun', so I have the option of tethering when I travel. You can't do it through the Settings, so you have to edit the .XML file if you want that.
However, I noticed that the list of APNs in Settings doesn't match the normal file that I would edit in stock. The one in stock being in /system/etc/apns-conf.xml, searched that file for some of the ones showing in the APN list in Settings, and they're nowhere in that file, including my own.
So, obviously Lineage OS is pulling the APNs from a different file, but for the life of me, I have no idea where that file is. Anyone here have any idea?

Hey man. I use T-Mobile. I'm good on editing it. I'm not good on actually locating it in the root file system. The APNs reflected in the settings aren't the same as the ones reflected in the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file, so they've gotta be pulling from somewhere else.

What i did to get around that was pretty easy on my end. I deleted the current apns in android settings so none were listed. Then i used fx root browser and copied my stock apns-conf.xml and then went back to apns settings and reset to default. I rebooted and my carrier was there, I am using LTE so i had to enable it as it was set by default to global initially. I also screenshotted my stock apn settings values in case i got lost in the process. I do have a master apns-conf.xml with t-mobile included for some of the ROM's i make. Let me know if you get stuck. Good luck!
