[Q] Camera masters plz help - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I have one question. At night in low light condition, when I am turning camera app on, my HTC sees everything amazing, but as soon as I start recording video, screen gets too dark, also when my phone is not moving, so it doesn't have to refocus. Do I have problems in camera settings? I don't understand, why it shouldn't record video in same quallity as camera hardware can see, while not capturing?

I believe that's how the camera works . Your were probably in photo mode when everything was looking good. As soon you hit the video button, it turns into crap. It's not you.

AutoFocus issue

When I turn on camera in photo mode, constant autofocus starts and refreshes every 2 sec. Between these autofocuses it is impossible to enter any photo menu to see what's wrong. But when video mode is on- everything works as normal.
What can it be and how can I solve this issue?

Just notiiced on my stock HOX, that when I record a video in Full HD, it is fine in portrait position (held upright), but if turn the phone to landscape it still shows the playback in portrait mode.

Sometimes I have the opposite XD
I've noticed that the accelerometer won't always trip so I think I'm holding the phone landscape and recording thus, but it's actually in portrait XD
Make sure that the gallery icon always matches the screen orientation, if the problem persists try to recalibrate the G-sensor I think...
Settings > Display & gestures > G-Sensor calibration
Then follow the onscreen info.
Yeah tried that the same, seems strange, will check my other HOX, odd as the Sensor works fine for everything else.
I noticed that a Hard Reset fixed mine too when you hold down power for 10 seconds.
Got nowhere so contacted HTC and got the response below saying its normal ???

Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC One X.
My name is Carola and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
I understand when you record a video clip in portrait position then you turn the phone to landscape it still shows the playback in portrait mode.
This is a normal function in the phone, due to the original screen format in which was recorded, it reduces it's size to have the complete view in the other view mode you choose.

i've just noticed that you need it to change orientation BEFORE starting the recording, once its recording it doesn't change it.
it just depends what orientation you have it first, as to which way the video will appear when playing back.

See my post?
yeah, just your post doesn't mention that it doesn't change it whilst recording, even if the g sensor is calibrated properly. (which i could swear they used too, maybe not though)
Think this issue is that I was rotating the device after during recording.
That explains why on some clips there is no issue (where i did not rotate).
Guess I just assumed the device accelerometer was clever enough to rotate.
Thanks guys.
i reckon the reason they don;t have it rotating whilst recording, is that if for instance you played it back on a tv, i would find it really annoying if i the whole video frame kept swapping orientations through a video.

[Q] Camera Focus?

After using my new Note 3 to take some photos while hiking over the weekend, I found out most were out of focus. Looking at how the camera works, it seems that when you take a photo the phone takes it immediately without focusing first. It will try to focus as you move it around but if it did not focus yet, it will not do so when you take the photo. On my Relay 4G as well as Galaxy Nexus (and pretty much any other phone I used) the auto focus will kick in right after you press the shutter button and will at least try to focus the picture. Is there any way to force the Note 3 to work the same way? I went through all the camera settings and did not see anything.

I've been using the tap to take the shot feature. It's is the camera settings. It's a great feature and works well. I like taking a handful of different shots but it works well for up close shots and distance shots. Once turned on you literally tap the screen where you want the camera to focus and it will focus on the area and take the shot. But yes like you I've noticed that sometimes pressing the shutter button sometimes does not achieve focus. Hope this he's as kind of a work around for you.

Mine have all auto focused though I do prefer to tap to focus. The times when I didn't tap, it went through its focus cycle and was fine. Perhaps its focusing on something else in the image frame? Maybe there is a smudge on the lens and its focusing on that and makes the rest of the image blurry.

[Q] Google Camera issue

Hey Guys I'm having an issue with the Google Camera app on the Samsung S4 Mini. I can take pictures and videos fine however the issue arises when i want to take multiple pictures on the same focal point.
So if i touch the screen on the focus point, let the app find the correct exposure, take the picture then touch the screen again take a picture etc. it works fine and can keep doing that. The problem arises however when i want to take another picture without touching the screen in between taking shots. If i touch the screen, take a shot (the first picture is fine) and then try to take another shot without refocusing nothing happens. The focus circle will not respond to further attempts to refocus and the button to take pictures doesn't do anything.
Is there anything i should be doing? Any direction would be awesome.
Cheers.

[Q] Front Camera appears cropped when wanting to take a picture

Hi
On my G4 the front camera looks like it has become cropped and doesn't fit the whole screen, see attached image. I have tried restarting the phone.
Any ideas why this has happened, if I use the main camera it is fine and if I use dual mode it is also fine, it wasn't always like this, i have changed the ratio settings and that doesn't do anything.
Anyone else had this?
You have the flash mode on. Turn off the flash icon and it will go back to normal.

Ah, so the "flash" mode on the front camera is actually using the whiteness of the screen itself for illuminating your face as it faces the white screen? Clever...
Ahhaaaaa thank you was driving me crazy!
FYI it does this too if you lowered the screen DPI. The rear camera is fullscreen but the front camera is letterboxed.
