Is anyone aware or the physical way to fool the desire to go into car dock mode either by rewiring a usb cable, or does it use the same magnetic sensor as the nexus, I currently use a boadit iPhone cradle that fits perfect and i have a charger mini usb cramped and srewed into the bottom, I would like to be just be able to drop it in and it go into the Navigator app and switch on bluetooth automaticly and kill both when i remove it ..
thanks

The droid/milestone used magnets to detect the dock, but the google car dock uses bluetooth and doesn't even use the usb cable (it uses the gold 3 bits on the bottom of the phone). I too wished you could do the same, but my brodit holder fit the phone so badly, I've decided to shell out and try the original car dock - just waiting for it to come.
Thanks for the reply, so the million dollar question is how does the desire's dock sense when its dropped in the cradle, any ideas people ? I read somewhere forgot now doh !! that it might be a case of grounding one of the data lines in the usb cable, can anyone confirm this ?
I'd like to know this too.. Dockmode/Cardockmode
Look at this thread - probably the id pin, but i need someone with the same charger and a multimeter to check some things
I have 2 chargers (work & home) that I use that plug directly into the wall, the one at home brings up Navigator where the one at work doesn't, so it must have to do with the pins in the USB connector.
Can you do some measurements with a multimeter on that charger that opens the navigator???
oh this sounds like what we wanna hear, my betting is one of the usb data lines gets grounded as ive mentioned before !!! plz test to see if more than one of the pins in the usb plu is being grounded .... pretty plz !! heh
Hey Guys,
yes it looks like the Desire can be fooled into thinking its connected to a car dock, my car charger seems to do it when the usb is not properly inserted.
I suspect HTC might release a car dock for the Desire. If not some one should really monopolise on the fact that this can be done.
I will be experimenting with it soon but currently have way to much uni work to finish for the end of the month
Ok went into the workshop and stripped the desire usb lead, I tried every combo of pulling the data lines to ground even both together, the installed navigator.apk didnt kick in , but looking at a reatime system dump i could see usbconnected and type(0) , type (1), type(2) had been triggered, on the differnt combo's i tested, why its not kicking in is anyones guess, maybe cas the Incredible navigator.apk is strictly configured for that device, guess the Incredibles navigators.apk has to be recompiled with new settings !!
I will try it with the cardock.apk tomorrow ripped from the nexus we might have more luck with that me thinks !!! fingers crossed !!!
Keep up the good work! I FINALLY get my Desire delivered tomorrow (after waiting 4.5weeks for stock!!!), so I can have a look at this too... let us know how you get on.
I'm interested in a homedock/multimediadock trigger as well as the car dock trigger. It should be included in the Desire as well as the cardock.
Here's an emulator that could be helpful in the process of developing a dockapp or finding out what's really happening..
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.net-geekherd-dockenabler-pBmD.aspx
I'll try to find the homedockingtrigger if there is any to use in my homemade dockstation
Hi
Wonder if there has been any progress on this? I'm keen to hack my Brodit active cradle to be a fake real dock!

Same here! Any progress?!
after upgrade to froyo, i pluged my car charger in my desire and the car mode icon showed up, even when the other end of the charger is NOT pluged in the lighter. I use a charger for my old HTC Diamond and added a little thing that convert a mini USB port (wich is on diamond) to a micro USB. And the cable on my charger is too short for me so it has been moded (extended) by my self, there is only two wire in the cable for power, so there must be something in the plug itself that triggers the car mode. if only plug the converter into Desire, nothing happened
It's the ID pin that needs to be connected to ground, as indicated in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744636
I moved to the G-Nex from the Charge. I drive a truck and have the Charge cradle. It's a nice cradle with suction mount and locking swivel. Like many, I was really bummed to see the one piece molded mount Verizon has for the Nexus.
Much to my delight, I've found that with a very minor 5 minute modification, the Nexus fits the Charge cradle beautifully. The Nexus is the same width but taller. Take a Stanley knife or similar razor knife and cut the top left protrusion off of the cradle, where it would snap onto the top left corner of the Charge. Just trim it flush so the Nexus back rests on it. Then take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out the micro usb plug from inside the charging slide lock. Slip in your Nexus, slide the charge slider closed and presto !! A nice swivel mount cradle for the G-Nex.
Yes, you do have to plug the cable in the bottom, it doesn't plug into the cradle, but that is small potatoes IMO. It makes a real nice cradle for the Nexus.
Can you post a picture of the dock and the way it is mounted. Also, a link to the dock you have would be great as I am not familiar with the Charge accessories.

It's the cradle for the Charge they sell in Verizon company stores. Not a 3rd party retailer.
This is the mount ==> http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=refineByPhone&phoneId=5642
if you expand the picture, the corner I am talking about trimming would be the lower left. I only use it in portrait position so that makes it the upper left. I've twisted it to landscape and the phone is still in there firm though.
It is the only mount on the Verizon site that is device specific for the Charge
Edit: oops ... that link just goes to the Charge accessories page. Under the category tab far left click on mounts and it will appear.
I came from the Droid Charge as well. I use my Charge car mount for now without any modifications. It doesn't look pretty because, as the OP said, this phone is taller and without modifications to the dock the phone sits at an angle. It seems fairly secure though; better than a crummy universal dock that I tried out anyway. I would not recommended buying the Charge dock over the Galaxy Nexus dock though because at the end of the day they are both just a chunk of plastic when used with this phone and the only reason I am using the Charge dock is because I already had it.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
So, I bought the Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM car dock, for my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, from Google, and hollowed out the area surrounding the volume buttons just as recommended. All went well with no problems after just a few minutes of work. The volume up and volume down worked perfectly with no hang-ups. I even tested the on and off button several times. Everything worked great.
Then, I brought the car dock to the car, stuck it on the windshield, plugged the 12v power USB in, snapped the phone in place (Pogo pin side first), but the phone would not go into Car Mode, nor would it indicate that it was even plugged in the charger. I popped the phone in several times, (Pogo pin side first), but nothing. It wouldn’t even turn on after snapping it in.
I removed the car dock from the windshield with the phone snapped it place and the power still plugged in the car dock. I then started to apply pressure to the phone and car dock in the location of the Pogo pins and, BAM! It came to life in Car Mode and with the charging indicator on!!
Well, it turns out that the 3 Pogo pins were not making contact with the phone’s 3 contacts. It looked like to me that the phone was not seating far enough inside the car dock for the Pogo pins to make contact with the phone. Please note: I do have the extended battery and cover from Verizon on my phone, but I did try the original battery with the original cover in the dock and it still had the same problem.
My solution was to get my cheap computer repair tweezers and pulled straight outwards, (towards the front of the car dock), on each Pogo pin, ever so slightly, a very little bit at a time until the phone would turn on, go into Car Mode, and charge all at the same time without any problems, every time.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, if so, this was my solution. If you do this, BE CAREFUL not to damage the Pogo pins.
I'm searching for an Active Car Holder (Cradle / Dock) for the ACRO S.
with the DK200 Charger Cradle Dock it is easy to Charge the Acro at home.
So do I stick the DK200 into the car. or there is a better possibility.
I would need exactly the same. Only problem is that the desktop cradle holds the phone vertically, but I need it on my dashboard horizontally. For watching TED, navigation, etc.
Options I found so far:
- buy another desktop cradle ($10 on ebay), cut it into two and modify it so the connectors come out from the bottom --> would be ugly I am afraid
- buy a cradle for another phone from KIDIGI , and try to push Acro S into that. For example Xperia S or HTC Incredible has very similar sizes, but I cannot test if it fits unless I buy one... and then I would need to hack it as well to put the connector pins to the bottom
I don't like either options... if anyone would have any other ideas, please let me know

Sorry for being out of topic, but for the cradle, do we just pull out the phone, cause it seems like I am going to break either one every time I do it.
I built my own active cradle ...
I bought a cheap hard case from ebay and I modified it so the phone will get in and out easy, then I glued on it some springs for the power connections and I also installed a micro-usb port so I can use any regular car charger with a micro-usb connector.
I also attached to it a suction cup with a multi-angle orientation leg.
I used epoxi resin to put everything together and the final device is extremely functional. I still have to build a case around the springs and micro-usb connector in order to have it "like from the factory".
I'll attach some photos tomorrow (currently the holder is in the car and outside is raining ... not to mention is midnight here )
yeah please please photos - can not sleep before
The photos, as promised
As I already said, is still work in progress (regarding the finishing of the case around the springs and the microusb port) but it is 100% functional.
VERY GREAT WORK :good:
From which Telephone is the cheap hard case?
Which Material are the springs?
This is the exact case I bought (but you can find even cheaper): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300795656907
As for the springs, those are from a battery holder. you can use even the spring from a mechanical pen.

Nice! Would like to mimic that.
I have a USB cable wih plug that I could glew to the back of a cradle, like you did. But what wires from the cable should be connected to the phone? And also, does anyone have any thoughts on the voltage and current that the Acro S expects on that connection? Regular USB values or a bit more?
Frank
Good
Very great work
I know the stock charger is 5v 1.5amp

only a passiv holder. No active car-holder. You must put the USB-Charger extra.
active car-holder:

Cant believe this is the top hit on google when looking for a acro S car holder. Jeez, Sony - dont need our money or what?
Hi, I've recently bought micro USB slot - the same as in the picture, but I can't connect it, I do not know which pin is the power supply. I tried 1 and 5, but it did not work. :crying: Does anyone can help me?

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive dock for Nexus 5 with built-in USB charging? I need one for my office where phone stands most of the time in dock unless I need to use it. I currently have a cheapo dock for Samsung Galaxy Nexus (bought for like $5) but it does not fit N5 and USB connector on N5 is turned around.
What I would like is something similar - form-fitting, affordable, unobtrusive, stable to use phone while in dock and with built-in charging.
Any recommendations would be welcomed.
It's too soon for bespoke docks and the universal ones don't work for the reason you mentioned. I'm checking every day for the Kidigi dock that will come to market but it's not on sale yet.
An alternative is to buy a desk stand and plug in a charging cable as normal.
I hope Kidigi know it too... Look at the Dock, the USB Connector is not in the right direction.

I'm sure they'll get it right. That's the one i'm waiting for btw. I really like the look of it so i hope it's out soon. I did drop them an email asking when we might expect it but haven't heard back yet.
