Hi all,
I like to acces my phone via WIFI to upload & download files to it . I use the Websharing App to do this and this works quiet well via a browser on my computer.
However when trying to write a new folder to my external SD-card in my phone, i get an error. I Tried this with different filesharing apps, but i seems like i don't have persmission to do this because i always get the same error.
This problems occurs only when trying to write something to the external SD. Reading & copying is possible.
Does somebody knows how i can fix this problem ?
When connecting the computer via usb-cable , it's possible to write directly to SD card.
(Samsung galaxy s4 mini LTE, android 4.4.2)
Cheers.
On android 4.4.2 3rd party apps can't write on SDCard. You must root Your phone, install Xposed Framework and then download and install module KitKat SD Card Full Access. Also better way to browse and manage files directly on Your phone is SambaDroid, You can even manage system files.

Okay thanks for your help. Will try sambadroid, otherwise will check the xposed framework. Phone is already rooted.
I'm afraid that You also need this xposed module for Sambadroid to work. As I remember it was some build.prop modification to make it work if You don't wanna play with xposed.

I dont see that option in settings/application. Can you be more specific?
i found this solution by googling, this may help someone drop by this thread
connect your device to your PC and manually delete the “smdl2temp1” file. The file is likely to reside in 2 locations:
1. /sdcard/.android_secure: this is an invisible folder on your SD card, which you can access with any file manager, like ASTRO
2. /mnt/secure/asec/: access to this folder requires root and a program like Root Explorer
it works for me.
is it solved now??
Under 5.0.1 Lollipop, how do I (or, can I) make external SD writable? The TWRP installation app claims to make that change (I think), but it didn't work.

Go to the playstore and search and download SDFix by NextApp and follow the instructions in the app. That should fix your external sd card problems

Yes you can. In recovery (twrp) go to wipe/advance wipe/ select sd and press change file system/ choose fat. When done reboot to system.
Through play store, download sdfix. This will surely help.
I was kinda wondering the same thing. I haven't tried twrp but I have used the sdfix tool as SuperSU and it says it worked. I was wondering if users like myself could get some more information on the whole write issue. Specifically! Getting a torrent program to write to the sdcard. After all why would I need root for any other reason? Please help with step by step instructions. Any experience at this is much appreciated.
So far I am luck y to have root. I am getting more familiar with adb command interface. I have been reading about rebooting and installing apk's from the boot menu but, this is all overwhelming for someone who just decided that google is a b.i.t.c.h. and it's time to jump on the xda ban wagon. So far my torrent programs either only write to internal space perfectly, or write to sdcard with small file sizes, stopping prematurely or even stopping only to refreash and start the torrent all over from zero percent. The torrent app ability is all so sketchy at best when it comes to using it with lollipop 5.0.1 lg g3.
Let me know if this is not the place for this discussion and I will delete this post and follow your link.
Hi everyone,
Quick question, I've got a T700 with last update 5.0.1 from HK.
I've installed uTorrent to dld some files, but I cannot make it write on the external SD card.
Ok I get it it is a lollipop restriction.
My question is : if I root with Cf-Autoroot my T700 will I have automatically writte right access for all apps to the SD external card ? I really don't want to install a lot of "****wares" on my Tab.
Thanks
After root you need to run an app that enables write access.

What app ? A free one ? I am quite tired of modding all my samsung product and I promiss myself to let this tablet clean and with an official ROM
Just look for sd card fix on app store.
I have Pro 8.4 with KitKat 4.4.2 . I have a full access of SD card on system's file manager, but like on WinZip or 7zipper, I don't. Same for other programs. Now I wanted to download a torrent with app uTorrent and it failed with error "Permission denied. (ReadToDisk)". Maybe somewhere is like on Windows "Run program on Administrator mode"? Or maybe something that will give that permission. Not rooted, and not going to do that (maybe when warranty ends).
Unfortunately you need root, it's actually a bug in the kitkat android sources that blocks sdcard write access (though it is fixed in Lollipop, unfortunately Samsung hasn't release LP for our device yet), the only way to fix it is with root since the file that needs modifying is on the system partition...
But, if I would to upgrade to Lollipop (if we ever have it) then it will fix this thing?
yeah
Check my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/write-data-to-external-sd-card-kitkat-t3248220
In most cases (with many apps that write data, like downloads), you can, in fact, write to the external SD card in KitKat, without root.

MM and Samsung roms fully support reading and writing to the sdcard. All that is required is for the app to ask for authorisation.
If it doesn't ask it's a bad app.
ADM also works fine with MM and sdcard.
