Muffled audio with earbuds and screen off? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I have had an issue with specific Roms, mainly sense based but some cm /soap based as well. When playing any stored music ie. Music player or any player from the market, and turning the screen off, the music literally slows down about 30% and gets distorted. It does not occur when streaming music at all ie. Pandora, FM radio or google music. Seems to react similarly whether the file is on internal or external storage. Happens with all headphones and my headphones work normally on other devices, to rule out the obvious. I am currently running sd sense 7. Any ideas?

Did you ever flash hk mod?

Last year I did with a different rom. I believe it was one of vipers Roms. But not on my current rom no.

I think that you currently have BoomSound audio files in the rom and the HK adsp installed... I suggest you to reflash the stock adsp or flash the HK mod again... :good:
Edit: as you run sense 7 rom i suggest you to flash stock adsp instead of the mod because it might be incompatibile...

After trying a bunch of different music players, I found that PowerAmp works. Seems odd that even the majority of the apps on the market have the same problem. This still just seems like a bandaid to the problem and I would like to figure out why I am not able to use the HTC player.

You answered yourself you flashed hk mod and then another rom, so probably you have hk adsp and BoomSound files... You need to change your adsp back to stock or flash again the mod to get hk files... As you are on sense 7, i suggest you the first choice just to avoid incompatibilities...

Flashing hk-bs-switcher-4.3 and choosing bs stock seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks

[Q]Is there an after-market music player I can grab?

I know there's a couple of viable options in the Android Market. Free ones like Winamp and Tunewiki and paid ones like PowerAmp. However, the people around here do better work than those devs do. Is there any aftermarket music players on here somewhere? One compatible with MikFroYo 4.4?
If it matters, running all updated stuff, hardware 0004 and hboot 2.10 (not by choice, it came this way).
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say you named the big ones. For CM there is a custom made music app I think. Other than that, everyone uses the stock music app. If you do come across one, let me know lol. I really like PowerAMP cause its equalizer is better than DSP manager but for me, not worth paying for.

I hear the MIUI stock music app is pretty cool, but I don't know if there's a free-floating apk out there (the whole reason for the post, actually, lol). If you think your CM music player will work with a Sense rom, by all means please shoot me a copy. I'd love to give it a shot. The stock sense app isn't half bad but I don't have a full screen I can dedicate to it (damn foursquare).
When I first installed Poweramp my trial lasted about 2 months because every market update reset my 2 week trial. When the box did finally pop up just hit cancel. I never have to see it anyway because I plug in my earbuds and it starts playing automatically. I was ready to buy it because it is the best player I've found but then I heard 2.3 will come with more audio options including eq for all sound output. I'll wait and see how that works out.
You have been EVOfied.
I use Meridian Media Player. It works great.

Just pay for poweramp, it is the best player out there and I've tried them all. Don't be cheap.
MixZing is pretty nice, and the free version has most of the features one would need (but it also has ads). The full version gets rid of ads and unlocks a few things.

Best Desire ROM for playing music (FLAC especially)

Hi, I'm looking for a ROM that can play music very well and will also play FLAC files without interruptions or buzzing or any other distortion. I have been using MIUI XJ but I understand development has stopped and recently it seems it doesn't do the job anymore (weird buzzing during playback every now and then). Maybe its not the ROM, i don't know. Tried with 2 sets of headphones and it's the same.
At the moment I am about to install MildWild CM5.
Awaiting suggestions!
Thanks.
Maybe try this one: http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=2365
Also which music player are you using?
I recommend RunnyRom...trust me it's the best i've seen, it has beats audio and other stuff, dont really know if there is much of a difference but it sounds better than my pc...
Beats audio on Desire is just equalizer setting.

Well yeah...like i said idk if it is a difference but...it still makes it the best rom for music
The fact that OP prefer FLAC files over mp3, I would assume he listens to his music without any or with little use for equalization.
Thank you all for replying.

Well, I will take a look and maybe give it a try. I'm using the default player in MildWild, Play Music v. 4.1. Before that it was just MIUI Music. Tried PowerAmp a while ago, but it really didn't impress me enough to convince me it's worth paying for.

I had (still do) considered RunnyRom as an alternative. I had used a ROM with Beats Audio before and it was awful. Beats Audio did not work, everyone recommended swapping it on the installation for DSP Manager, the latter being present in MildWild as well. Beats is pretty wide spread these days, but it doesn't always function properly. It's just a brand gimmick anyway.

This is correct. I don't ever use equalizers, although there are a few exceptions. With the HTC Desire I think it's mostly the headphones that make a difference. Unfortunately I don't have good ones. Bought Sennheiser CX 280 and the cable noise is like someone is tapping on the damn thing with their fingernails every step I take.
So thank you all for the suggestions. I will be checking them out. I was really hoping for a ROM specialised in music, I guess there isn't one.

[Q] Google Play Music inconsistency with FLAC

i've just switched from i9023 to i9250. the crappy sound was a great disappointment but i've found some patched kernel with sound improvements, so it's acceptable now. it's still far from a voodoo'd crespo, but it's OK now.
the only problem i cannot tackle with is the inconsistency of flac playback. some albums encoded in flac play fine but some others are not even recognised by the GPM. so as to track down the problem, i searched for two albums i encoded with the same flac lib with the same encoder setting, exactly. But not; one is playing fine but the other is being constantly refused. as both albums play perfect on crespo, i must have concluded that it's something very specific to maguro.
both phones have the same player (4.4.811H), auto-updated from play store. on crespo i have 4.1.2 stock, on maguro it's just upgraded to 4.2.1 stock ota.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thx !
There's a few commits laying around in aosp/master about FLAC.
Try cyanogenmod.

the stock Google Play music player is a mess. So many lags in the UI, aniamtions are slow, the transitions are laggy and painful. The whole app is messy as **** and should be recoded from the ground and put on a new UI.

thx, but i don't think to install another rom just because of this issue. i've tried aosp in the meantime, but besides the flac problem i've got gallery desynched; one by one it crapped all the apps synched with it (camera, talk, g+, ...) so i wont change to have more problem than i have now
would you, please, direct/link me to those sparse comments. i've made several hours search, but i haven't found anything about to this issue.

i don't really mind how a music player looks like as i use it for listening to music. usually it's run in the background, so i don't really care about such issues. anyway, i tried several other players but the problem is persistent, so, again, it must be an inherent problem of maguro and not specific to GPM. again, exactly the same player plays fine the albums on crespo being not even recognised on maguro.

[Q] Playfulgod's CM11 Issues

I'm sorry if this is not the right thread to post it(I've searched extensively in this thread but to no avail), but I have 2 main issues with the KitKat ROM for my GNex.
FIrst of all is the issue regarding locking your screen when playing music. When I'm playing music and locking the screen, the phone will suddenly stop the music suddenly and then resumes. This gets quite irritating but I don't know if this is normal KitKat behaviour.
Secondly is that 720p playback with MX is very laggy. In my experience with stock, I've seen better peformance out of the player, and I'm kinda weirded out by this.
I'm using the stock kernel, and what not. The only app that I use that effects many apps is Greenify(Oh, and I don't greenify the music app).
Even I did a clean flash the problem persists.

I know that MX player was having issues with early builds of CM11 but don't know the particulars for Playfulgod's rom. I would try and flash another CM11 based rom and see if you have those same issues, if not you can boil it down to that particular build.

Harmon Kardon on ARHD breaking rocket player

When I enable Harmon Kardon when flashing ARHD 11.1, rocket player is unable to play mp3s. It can play other files, and other players can play everything fine, but rocket player can't play mp3s. The time bar tracks as if it's player, but there is no sound. Reflashing without HK solves the problem. This is on ATT one m8 with latest firmware.
I haven't found anything about this on the main thread or elsewhere, but if anyone knows anything about it, let me know.
Try version 6 from here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2827439

Are u s off?
if not chances are this won't work as certain sound firmware (nothing to do with phone firmware itself) needs updating.
You may be able to get it working on s on if you flash a sound mod like project era first but really need s off
No, I'm s-on, and I'm probably not going to change that just for this. Strange it's only one music player. Oh well, thanks.
