[Q] URGENT, please help!!! LG G3 can't get into download mode. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I literally tried everything. Here's what I did that led to this:
I tried rooting my phone with Stump, but it said it failed because my phone was updated
I went into download mode and flashed the stock firmware using LG Flash Tool
I rooted my phone with Stump
I downloaded TWRP
I flashed CM12 onto my phone but realized for some reason the cellular data wasn't working (Wifi and 4G worked).
I tried a lot of different solutions but nothing worked.
I tried to get my phone back to the stock firmware, but for some reason I can't get into download mode.
The TWRP recovery works, but when I press up and plug in the usb, it just skips download mode and boots regularly.
I tried doing different button combinations, adb reboot download in adb, and other things I read online but nothing worked.
I was stupid and forgot to back up anything before I downloaded the custom ROM.
I got into download mode at the start of all this so something from this list caused this.
PLEASE HELP. Now my phone has no cell data and I can't get it back to the stock firmware. I'm stuck with a useless phone until I can fix this.

Are you sure you dont have a bad usb cable? You have a D855 right?
Usually when laf (the partition that governs download mode) is damaged or blank it goes into fastboot mode instead
in your case it doesnt go into fastboot mode which means you have a bad usb cable
Try selecting reboot bootloader in twrp and see if it boots into download mode

I have a VS985. I lost my laf file so I tried downloading someone else's laf file (also a VS985 phone) but it didn't work. I used this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-please-enter-download-mode-t3044688
I'm having pretty much the same problem but nothing I try is working. I'm desperate at this point. I tried doing reboot bootloader in TWRP but it does the same thing, it just skips it and boots normally. I tried different USB cables but the same thing happens.

Wouldnt recommend you do that. The version of their laf has to match with your original stock system version or its not going to work
What was the system version that your phone was running before you installed CM12?
Download the 12B KDZ for VS985 from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934537134
Extract using this tool (WindowsLGFirmwareExtract-ver.1.2.5.0): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575
It should have a laf.bin.
Rename to laf.img and you can write it but first answer my question above

you solved the problem? try flash the laf.img and aboot.img for restoree your donwload mode.......

Hard bricked VS985 after ROM flash failure

Sorry, I'm relatively new to rooting and I looked through the threads and found similar problems, but none that seem to exactly match mine.
I have a rooted VS985 that I was trying to flash with the AndroidNow HD 6.1 ROM using TWRP and I guess the flash tool crashed. It was stuck on a black screen for an hour or two so I hard reset it and after that, the phone will only flash the LG logo for a second before the screen turns off and the indicator light alternates flashing red and blue. As far as I can tell, the computer does not detect it when it is in this mode (seems similar to the secure boot issue that some people have been having). I cannot enter download mode (the LG logo flashes on and the indicator light flashes blue once and then both turn off) but I can still boot into TWRP Recovery. When I try to boot into download mode, even while the screen is off, my computer detects the phone as QHSUSB_BULK. Also, when in recovery mode, my computer can detect the phone as a G3 and I can access it with adb tools but I don't know where to go from here. I have tried using the LGFlashTool but I can't seem to access the phone because it will not enter download mode and I've tried reflashing AndroidNow HW 6.1. The flash completes and says it is successful, but the phone still will not boot properly.
Luckily, I got the phone a few days ago from Costco, so there is a good chance I can still return it, but I would like to fix it if I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you have adb working.
Did you make a backup of your stock download mode at anypoint of time? (Iaf.img)
I guess it can be pushed back using adb, but am not very sure. Even if not, maybe you can take the stock Iaf.img from someone else and try pushing it via adb using this command:
Code:
dd if=/storage/external_SD/stock-laf.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
Then you can boot into the download mode using the command:
Code:
fastboot boot stock-laf.img
It doesn't look like I have the stock laf.img backed up. I'll try to get it from someone. Thanks, I'll let you know what happens when I get it.

Follow this: http://www.androidexplained.com/lg-g4-how-to-boot-into-download-mode/ and then when in downloade mode open lg tool as admin.
Select kdz and click on Normal flash, change language and region (in your case other country and English) Lg Tool should now process kdz and reset phone back to stock.
I'll be back on here @ 3pm GMT and see how you have got on

I thought it was better to use the CSE flash if you wanted to revert to full stock. I've never tried the Normal method; only had to flash CSE once haha

follow the guide attached earlier to get download mode, you do not need apps just tools that guide states. I have used kdz method on my own H815 and it worked fine.

I didn't use the app so I don't know what did it, the only apps installed on phone out side of stock was supersu pro, tb, so I'm lost and it goes in trash....good thing I have backup nexus to use...
if indeed its the chip will lg/tmobile know its been rooted
not if it is corrupted because data is lost on partitions.
Have you tried putting your phone into Download Mode and doing a full flash of the KDZ for your variant? You just need to hold Vol_Up and plug phone into computer to boot into Download Mode.

About the update from 5.0 to 6.0 bootloop. (Genisys Rom 2.6.zip)

I want to ask that it hasn't any solutions yet??
I have flash Genisys Rom 2.6.zip than reboot that have a bootloop problem....
Will it be a solutions then?
Any idea??

Yes I flash it back those v20a bootloader, boot and modem after I got into the twrp, then I reboot it, it is stuck on the LG logo screen now...
and now I can't go back to the fastboot mode and the twrp...that 's the problem...
any idea to go back the twrp?
i'm stuck on same thing.
What I've tried.
! flashing back to stock rom using lg flash tool. Crashes at 9%. Tried flashing 20A file not allowed
both adb and fastboot methods don't work as adb doesn't detect phone and fastboot get's stuck on waiting on device
Basically the phone is stuck on boot logo after upgrading to marshmallow which all went fine and phone booted as normal after I then reinstalled the twrp recovery as before so to install supersu after boot that when the problem started. The phone can get into factory reset the two yes methods which I have tried still no luck and I can also get into download mode. basically am I waiting on a update to lg flash tool or have I ducked my phone any help would be appreciated
You probably ****ed the security flag added into marshmallow and it didn't like it one bit, that's why its better the flash newer versions of a rom when you have a recovery then an official ota ,that's where they get ya locked down .is there any devices in the device manager at all? Just checking if its hard bricked.if its labeled as q9xxxx something like that then its definitely hard bricked.like not even a jtag can get er back

No its listed as two different devices as LGE andriodnet serial port com4 and also LGE andriodnet usb modem. I have noticed that if i uninstall these two from within device manager that it then goes back to an lgmobile phone with a i on the phone icon in device manager. I have tried to find the proper driver so to make the computer see the lg phone again without error via extracting driver install exe but no joy it goes back to the above.
I wonder Is it possible to flash the .img files that are boot. system etc using lg flash tool the one with the tot methid via a script and the files I wonder. Or even convert the files needed to do a complete flash of system bootloader etc to bin files so to be read by the lg flash tool used in the tot version. or is there any other software that can convert kdz to bin.

Same
I had the same problem. They recently reposted the download to a fixed 2.6 so try to redownload from the genesys post. Also, flash the marshmallow kernel and supersu right after, then followed by genesys theme if you choose to use.
Retry and retry to start twrp at boot with sleep button and volume down button.... I had the same problem with marshmallow because i forgot to flash v20a bootloader, and i had finally access to twrp after a lot of times...

Stuck in boot loop and can't get into fastboot mode to use adb, need help

I followed this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-t3128241
Here's what I did:
Unlocked bootloader
Booted into TWRP (version 3.0) (didn't install, just booted into)
Flashed SuperSU
Rebooted into system
Now whenever I boot the device I'm stuck in a boot loop.
So I can't boot the device up or get into fastboot mode (what should fastboot mode look like? I got into download mode at some point), not sure what to do?

I had the same problem.
If you can get your phone in the download mode, than try this.
1: Install LGBridge,
2: Boot your phone in download mode & start LGBridge,
3: Than on Software Update tab, on the bottom right corner, you will see an option saying "Update Error Recovery"
4: Click on it and your phone will be flashed to latest firmware. Make sure you are connected to net as it will need to download it.
Once the update it complete, Your phone should reboot normally.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Today's CM14 bricked my H815 (no bootloader, no fastboot, no recovery)

Hi,
My H815 always suffered from this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/fastboot-download-mode-problem-t3466649 - the only way I could have fastboot was from an adb shell.
Well, that was not a problem until today: CM14's nightly broke (booting just loops at the moving logo) and now I have no way to go back to fastboot. And if I try the recovery mode, I just have a blurry circle saying "erasing" for a few seconds, then a looping CM logo.
Anyone has a way out of this mess ?

Sorry, it's nearly the same issue though, CM14.1 broke phones today.
Today's update broke mine as well. Looking for solutions. Will follow your thread and progress.
Same for me. Tried download mode with lgup to flash stock which worked once - but I kind of bricked it again by trying to install cm14.1 again. Then i tried to go back to stock using lgup again, but now lgup it just crashes. The phone now goes automatically to download mode after turning it on, the progress bar stays at 0%, the phone says "633A B100" and lgup crashes after 9% "prepare dlmode" or something similar. any ideas? :/
Some people seem to have fixed this issue by flashing the official Cyanogenmod Recovery.

After flashig the CM Recovery via TWRP, i can't use the recovery anymore. If i boot into CM-Recovery the display shows "Ereasing" and start the system. After that i got a bootloop.
Is it possible to use fastboot??
You guys should also check CM14.1 thread because people there are talking about the same problem. The latest post says the only solution was to flash an official kdz with LGUP.

Yes, it was with cm recovery 20161130, if i remember correctly.
Sadly now, i can not go into fastboot. The phone goes directly into download mode. My windows vm detects the phone, and tries to flash a recent kdz, but lgup crashes at 9%. The phone still shows "0%".

Already tried like 3-4.... Its always the same. If the tool would at least give me a little bit more information, but it just stops.
I don't know then. Some users seem to have had the same problem (stuck at 9%) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/search/forum/4233?query=lgup 9%
I had the same issue, tried several things, my final solution was:
- Start in download mode (Volumen up and then plug in cable)
- use "LG Brigde" on Mac to install stock Rom ( Software update tab in APP ) guess should also work with Windows
- Boot original android
- enable usb debug
- Start bootloader via ADB
- fastboot flash recovery to twrp 3.0.2
- Boot in recovery via power and vol down (first factory reset from stock appears but after this twrp is starting)
- install cm nighty of 1 DEC via ADB sideload
- reboot and done
In the meantime i updated to twrp 3.0.2-1., installed gapps etc. everything is now working fine again.
Hope this is also working for you.
Which version of cm14 did u download and install? Can u please post the exact version?
Mmh ... LGUP is the Windows utility right ? How do I do if I only have a Linux machine ?

I'm trying to get to it via power+down, I get to the double "do you want to factory reset ?" question, but then :
- sometimes the CM recovery just says "erasing" for a few seconds and reboots to (non-working) CM
- sometimes it just plainly boots to (non-working) CM
I used to have TWRP installed but it didn't work with CM update, so I let CM install its own recovery.
