Sorry, I'm relatively new to rooting and I looked through the threads and found similar problems, but none that seem to exactly match mine.
I have a rooted VS985 that I was trying to flash with the AndroidNow HD 6.1 ROM using TWRP and I guess the flash tool crashed. It was stuck on a black screen for an hour or two so I hard reset it and after that, the phone will only flash the LG logo for a second before the screen turns off and the indicator light alternates flashing red and blue. As far as I can tell, the computer does not detect it when it is in this mode (seems similar to the secure boot issue that some people have been having). I cannot enter download mode (the LG logo flashes on and the indicator light flashes blue once and then both turn off) but I can still boot into TWRP Recovery. When I try to boot into download mode, even while the screen is off, my computer detects the phone as QHSUSB_BULK. Also, when in recovery mode, my computer can detect the phone as a G3 and I can access it with adb tools but I don't know where to go from here. I have tried using the LGFlashTool but I can't seem to access the phone because it will not enter download mode and I've tried reflashing AndroidNow HW 6.1. The flash completes and says it is successful, but the phone still will not boot properly.
Luckily, I got the phone a few days ago from Costco, so there is a good chance I can still return it, but I would like to fix it if I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you have adb working.
Did you make a backup of your stock download mode at anypoint of time? (Iaf.img)
I guess it can be pushed back using adb, but am not very sure. Even if not, maybe you can take the stock Iaf.img from someone else and try pushing it via adb using this command:
Code:
dd if=/storage/external_SD/stock-laf.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
Then you can boot into the download mode using the command:
Code:
fastboot boot stock-laf.img
It doesn't look like I have the stock laf.img backed up. I'll try to get it from someone. Thanks, I'll let you know what happens when I get it.

I literally tried everything. Here's what I did that led to this:
I tried rooting my phone with Stump, but it said it failed because my phone was updated
I went into download mode and flashed the stock firmware using LG Flash Tool
I rooted my phone with Stump
I downloaded TWRP
I flashed CM12 onto my phone but realized for some reason the cellular data wasn't working (Wifi and 4G worked).
I tried a lot of different solutions but nothing worked.
I tried to get my phone back to the stock firmware, but for some reason I can't get into download mode.
The TWRP recovery works, but when I press up and plug in the usb, it just skips download mode and boots regularly.
I tried doing different button combinations, adb reboot download in adb, and other things I read online but nothing worked.
I was stupid and forgot to back up anything before I downloaded the custom ROM.
I got into download mode at the start of all this so something from this list caused this.
PLEASE HELP. Now my phone has no cell data and I can't get it back to the stock firmware. I'm stuck with a useless phone until I can fix this.
Are you sure you dont have a bad usb cable? You have a D855 right?
Usually when laf (the partition that governs download mode) is damaged or blank it goes into fastboot mode instead
in your case it doesnt go into fastboot mode which means you have a bad usb cable
Try selecting reboot bootloader in twrp and see if it boots into download mode
I have a VS985. I lost my laf file so I tried downloading someone else's laf file (also a VS985 phone) but it didn't work. I used this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-please-enter-download-mode-t3044688
I'm having pretty much the same problem but nothing I try is working. I'm desperate at this point. I tried doing reboot bootloader in TWRP but it does the same thing, it just skips it and boots normally. I tried different USB cables but the same thing happens.

Wouldnt recommend you do that. The version of their laf has to match with your original stock system version or its not going to work
What was the system version that your phone was running before you installed CM12?
Download the 12B KDZ for VS985 from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934537134
Extract using this tool (WindowsLGFirmwareExtract-ver.1.2.5.0): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575
It should have a laf.bin.
Rename to laf.img and you can write it but first answer my question above
you solved the problem? try flash the laf.img and aboot.img for restoree your donwload mode.......

Accidentally hit the OTA lollipop update and phone would not get out of twrp. Have been able to download TOT and KDZ files and back and forth from KitKat to Lollipop. I can even download using the LG utility to update. The problem is that after the phone boots it restarts. I have no chance of pushing TWRP or any image for that matter. I can do hard reset I can put it in download mode but flashing does not fix the issue. I've spent all day looking on the web and all related forums to no avail. Any suggestions?

You said it wouldn't get out of twrp mode after update. You most likely need to clear fota and misc because they are corrupted since you took an OTA with a custom recovery. You do not need TWRP to do this. You can use adb.
Ok, so if I put the phone in download mode then adb "should" detect it? With root gone this should do the trick? I ask because I have put the phone in download mode but adb won't communicate with it and the phone doesn't give me enough time to put it in debugger mode. Thanks for your time and advice. I don't wish to buy a new phone when this isn't even a year old.

You need to use the adb commands listed in the link, not the zip. You do not need to be in download mode. You'll probably have to connect and reconnect multiple times because of boot issue to get adb to recognize and lock on it. Try first with pulling the battery also
"Code: adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc bs=256 count=1 conv=notrunc
reboot"
It is also possible to push a zip and install. I recommend reading up on adb if you are unfamiliar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266638.
I will say it sounds soft bricked and is recoverable. Perhaps, someone with more expertise than I can help
maybe you can take the external sd out transfer the zip-- maybe name it update zip-- put sd back in use download mode. But honestly, I haven't used a stock recovery since htc g2
Thanks for all your efforts but the two issues I'm having is the phone doesn't stay on long enough and the mtp drivers are not load applying. Tried on four computers with eight different cables. I give up. I can connect in download mode but then adb says dd is not a recognized command. I guess this is why other threads with this issue are still open.
Update. Sent the unit to LG and they were able to fix the issue and also replaced the usb port which sometimes wouldn't charge unless a new cable was used. Again, thanks for all the help. This should hold me off until I can get my hands on the G4.
Hello everyone, need a little help if possible .
The say curiosity killed the cat, well… it killed my phone. To be more precise I wanted to know if my 550ml (with unlocked bootloader and running cm12.1) could run a 551ml firmware so… I did install thru TWRP the superzen firmware and after that the screen turned black. Can’t see anything . Not even in fastbootmode, no logo, no nothing. If I turn it on and plug it to the pc it shows, I see the internal memory and the sdcard. It’s gotta be from the different resolution that 550 and 551 have but how do I change it since I can’t see anything?
I did a userdata reset thru fastboot, wiped cache , reinstalled stock recovery ,boot recovery, tried to install stock firmware, still no change. I even managed to enter stock recovery and did an adb sideload of the latest firmware from the asus site.
As for now the phone boots, the capacitive buttons respond, the led indicates that it charges, the pc sees it but no matter what I do the screen remains black. Most likely I’m on the setup wizard but like I said I don’t see anything.
So… What can I do now? To the Asus service with it or …?
I'm not much of a forum user so go easy on me. Thank you.
Not sure if it's going to make a difference but here is an idea, try sideloading a cm recovery and flash a cm rom and see what it does...

Unfortunately it does not work, when i try to sideload a rom with twrp it gives this: error closed. Probably because usb debugging is not enabled... and in cwm different error: Device unauthorized...
Are you sure bootloader is unlocked?
It has to be unlocked cause i can flash permanent TWRP and when I enter TWRP recovery i can touch the buttons, even tried to do a restore in the dark... But nothing... Still the black screen persists... Thank you anyways.
PS: Well it looks like I've managed to resolve my problem. Thanx to user helroz i have found in his google drive a Raw firmware and I was able to flash it via fastboot with Asus Flash tool and now the phone booted, no more black screen for me. Lesson learned.
What I've done:
1. Tried LGNPST method but phone never showed up in the software
2. Tried flashing with LG official tool. That always resulted phone disconnected.[I did put my phone into download mode]
3.Tried almost all KDZ_FW_UPDATE methods they always stopped either in not responding-> close program OR extraction error
4. Tried sideloading using adb but they also resulted in "bad file" even push didn't work saying no permission to write(I think)
for adb I tried converted .zip of kdz using some guide in xda.
My phone is totally clean now. I can boot to Recovery or Download Mode. There's no file that's flashable right now. I'm in Philz touch recovery
This actually happened while I was flashing to unlock bootloader and charge went low.
I desperately want it to function properly. Please anyone with any new or updated methods, help me.
When normally trying to boot up, Google logo comes and phone switches off.
I was in F180L converted to E975.
I've INDIAN(20a) version kdz also european(10h) and korean(30e).

Hello,
You need to install Mr.Bump (click on it to download it) and move it to your Phone (Go to TWRP,connect your phone with your PC,move the file to your phone)Then click install and select "Mr.Bump.zip" file.

It would be better not to flash those kdz files.
You could have asked here before proceeding, but it doesn't matter now.
For the topic that you sent,I'm not sure that it will work.
So,can enter in Download mode (Click on it to see how to enter)
If you can,please reply.
