I've been using Swiftkey since the day I got my m8 well over 6 months ago. Lately I've been having strange keyboard problems. It has only been since Android 5.0 hit the phone, and oddly enough my wife's m8 isn't having the problem. Probably once a day, I'll open hangouts to send a text or chrome for a webpage (or any app where I would need the keyboard) and the keyboard won't pop up. The only fix I've found is to restart the phone. The only real difference between our 2 phones is that she uses factory messaging and t-mo visual voicemail and I use hangouts for texts and voice through hangouts for voicemail. Anybody else seen anything like this?

So I seem to have this HUGE problem. I've noticed this first about 2 months ago. The problem is that my notification light will blink, the phone will vibrate, and a notification for a new text will play. But I go to check my texts, and nope! Nothing! So, I thought it was just whatever. But people actually were texting me and my Evo decided to just delete it for whatever reason. Now this doesn't happen for every new text, I get about 150 a day, and it will do it for around 5 new texts. It gets annoying cuz then I have to text my friends to ask if they just texted me or not since I never got it cuz my phone deleted it. Not to mention I'm trying to patch things up with someone and it doesn't help if they text me and I never reply because I never "got" it.
I can replicate this issue when I play a memory intensive game. I know I'm getting texts because I've tried sending a text from another phone, and it would light up or whatever, but I would NEVER see that text. Plants vs. Zombies can replicate it. So I've considered it to be a memory issue. Maybe my MMS receiver closes as it needs more RAM. So I've been trying to figure out how to lock everything MMS related to memory but with no luck. And yes, I've tried to use MMS apps like Handcent, GO SMS Pro etc. No luck there either. And I've tried to use AMM to bring up the priority of my MMS service, also with no luck as it just resets to hidden app.
I've had this issue on quite a few ROM's. Synergy (Nightlies, RC1, RC2-Currently Running), MikG since the beta days, the Gingerbread leak, Kingdom REVOlution. Even on Froyo! I'm getting desperate to try CM7, I really love Sense but if this issue persists, I might just try CM7, but I wanted to know, has anyone else ever had this problem? Am I just screwed!? I'm afraid to get a replacement because of no root. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I would recommend signing up for Google Voice it backs up all your texts online and because your on Sprint you dont have to change your number Another Pro is that when switching roms it will download your texts for you when you install the App from Market. I am pretty sure this will fix it because your texts will get routed through Google Voice
google.com/voice
go sms pro
To avoid this problem i would advice switching to go sms pro its faster and lighter than the htc stock sms app. ever since I switched i had no probs.
So previous to my installation of CM10 I had been running the leaked TW JB Rom and using GoSMS as my texting app. The emojis worked perfectly, I could see them and I could send them. However, a tower in my area went down so I decided to use Google Voice for texting. Obviously there was no emoji support for it. When the tower seemed to be working again I resumed my use of GoSMS and surprisingly the emojis stopped working. When a friend notified me of this I sent myself emojis to test it and sure enough I got black diamonds with a white question mark when receiving. I tried Handcent and Chomp SMS and the same thing happened with those. So that's when I decided to flash CM10 rom hoping the emojis would work. When I got CM10 up and running I attempted to send myself emojis and I think the first time it may have worked (although I'm not positive as I do not remember LOL) but then I got the same black diamond. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or had any fixes. See attached for the problem. That was in the stock messaging app on CM10 but I also tried it on GoSMS to no avail.
Okay so I learned what the problem was. Although I deleted Google Voice my number was still registered to it and so my texts were going through that. Because of Google Voice's lack of emoji support I was receiving the black diamond's with question marks instead of emojis. So for anyone with a similar problem, just remember to remove your number from Google Voice online at www . google . com /voice

Fantastic work mate! This worked for me as well, I just thought it was a Sprint issue, never would have guess it was Google Voice.
I've been using Textra for SMS for a few days now with my new HTC One M8, and have been quite pleased. But some time this afternoon I noticed that when I try to use the voice to text function within Textra, which had been working just fine, my phone makes the sound as if the function is starting, and I think the screen appears for a split second, but is then replaced by the Textra messaging screen, and there is no way to record my voice. The function still works in other apps where it worked before. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Textra, without any luck. Then I looked at the update history and saw that Textra pushed out an update today, so I’m wondering if this update could have broken this functionality on the HTC One M8.
Anyone else with this phone using Textra and experiencing the same thing?
I have already written to Textra support.

I received a response from Textra support. Turns out they --did-- break it. Here's what they wrote:

Just issued an update for that in Google Play, should appear in the next hour or so. Apologies.

So i got the G3 the day it came out for Sprint, and everything was working fine. I was sending emoji to everyone with no issues. I started messing with some files, and i thought i broke the emoji somehow because all of a sudden, when i text someone, they couldnt see any emoji. They could see them on social networks but not text. I just chalked it up as a loss
However my phone got stuck in a bootloop so i had sprint replace it for me, so naturally i thought my emoji issues would be over since it is a brand new phone. But its the same! Nobody can get my emojis when i text. Even when i use emoji that are baked in texting apps such as Hangouts. Does anyone have this problem, and whats the solution?
Sorry if this has been talked about, I did a google and forum search but nothing was popping up. I just upgraded to Lollipop on the VZW M8 running the latest Renovate Nightlies, and it seems the swiftkey 'swype' feature doesn't work on my chomp sms incoming test pop up. I have to type manually. If I open the message I can swype, but not on the quick pop up. Is there any fix for this? I'm really starting to like lollipop less and less.

I just started noticing this on my G3 yesterday as well using Textra vice Chomp but it is affecting all programs. It was working earlier today so it isn't a total loss of capability. Don't know what's causing it. I forced stopped SwiftKey and restarted it to no effect.
