Im new to xda developers but Are there any lollipop custom roms out there that support wifi calling/texting and how can i stay in the loop if one comes out
Read incessantly. There is a lot of information for the device, software, network. You should start with the stickies. Those are invaluable.

Thanks I appreciate any hints ive glanced at the site here and there but not a serious user. I figured this would be the best place to find information like this whole wifi calling custom roms questions
No. Not until TMobile releases it.
So does that mean you can't custom ROM T-Mobile phones without sacrificing WiFi calling or will custom Roms support WiFi calling once lollipop is released

At this point, if you want to use WiFi calling, you have two options (that I know of): Stock LG ROM, or SkyDragon. Both are Kit Kat roms, and are (or are based on) stock.
If you want to try out Lollipop, you won't be able to utilize T-Mobile's WiFi calling yet.
You can use Google Hangouts to message over Wifi (to someone else using hangouts) and make calls by Wifi (also, to another hangouts user). Not a fool proof option, but can work if you really want to try out lollipop.
Another option you can try, which is much more involved, is to leave your phone on the stock rom and then install MultiROM CLICK HERE for this device and flash a custom lollipop ROM as a second ROM. Then you can use WiFi calling on the custom ROM, but boot into the second ROM to get a feel for Lollipop. That is what I am currently running. It involves knowledge of rooting and flashing, and if you've never done either of those it can take a lot of reading, and POSSIBLY (though not likely if you're careful) bricking your phone.
I too am interested in WIFI (tmobile) Roms... but ended up just rooting the stock firmware and using Tweakbox and Xposed to customize.
If there is an awesome WIFI (tmobile) rom, I am interested too, but the self customized rom is pretty good too.
Update... Just tried SkyDragon.... and if I hadn't customized my own stock ROM I'd probably go with SkyDragon... Since I have several hours into my own mods, I am sticking which what I got using Xposed and G3Tweaks

Actually, you can make WiFi calls to anyone with Hangouts, not just other Hangouts users. It's not especially elegant and the voice quality is spotty, but it works.

Hello all,
I am about to set back into the android world and had a quick question on the G2. I know in the past the G2 had wifi calling and tmobile tethering. Looks like (I did some searching) in the past it was free to tether although HTC said with the ICS updates it will be gone. Thing is the G2 does not get the official ICS. If I flash an ICS rom will there be free tethering? And I assume the wifi calling uses minutes but gives you the high quality of a call via wifi.
I will probably be adding the $30 prepaid plan for 100 minutes, unlmt data and messaging..
Thanks!

I haven't used wifi calling but free tethering still works the same way it did in gingerbread.
Tethering still works, and there is a mod to get Wifi Calling working on ICS roms.

Mod for that is in my signature which I use on EliteRom. And I can verify the mod works as I've used it several times.
If you want a ROM that already has the Wifi Calling baked in, then you can try Andromadus Mimicry. You'll have to update the radio to the required version but that's a simple thing. Links to both the radio and the ROM are in my signature.
Thanks folks.
My craiglister backed out today when I told them I was going to need to check the ESN before buying (hmm sketchy huh). So I am still on the hunt. Thanks for the info, I will definitely revisit shortly.

Hello Guys,
I am having WIFI Tether issues with any custom AOSP or AOKP rom. Installing a touchwiz related rom somehow resolves the tethering issues.
I've trying all the usual steps before installing a custom rom including wiping everything, factory reset and all that good stuff. But the native tether wont work on these roms. I tried the wifi tether apps in the app store but no success there.
However, what really gets to my nerves is that my daily driver is 4.1.2 liquid smooth rc7 version of the rom which i assume is based on aosp does allow wifi tether but only through the app in the app store. The native app continues to fail.
Someone once told me to install the wifi driver for the phone. Is that possible? If so how? By the way i am running a rogers s3 which is the at&t equivalent in US.
Also, just so you guys know, my other devices do pick up the wireless set up by my phone's tether, but it wont connect to it. password or not, it takes forever to connect and eventually fails.
Any advice?

If you carrier is Rogers, you need to make some mods to tether 4G (H+, 3G will work w/o mods). There's a post about it somewhere in Task's AOKP thread, which I believe a search should find it. Google can also help.
Same issue here, Rogers LTE tethering didn't work and tried to google and find the mods as posted.
couldn't find the mods.
Please advise.

Wow!!
Thank you sooooo soooo much. I spent hours trying to figure a way out to get the tethering to fix. This worked out super easily. You've honestly saved me hours i wouldve spent.
Thank you for persisting with the solution for us.
Cheers.
Yeah, Thanks for the link too
However I am not able to get LTE tethering speed
I am able to get LTE speed (10mbps+) on my S3, however the device that's using the tethering only able to get (~1mbps)
any idea?

It's dependent of the device receiving it. If it's too old or it's drivers are too old it won't get the speed it should. Also tethering shares the connection, therefor, you won't get full speed on the receiving device.
Could be so many things actually that's it's hard to troubleshoot.
Thanks for the quick reply,
However, I am using CM10.1 latest Nightlies 04/26.

I think you got me wrong.
Your S3 doesn't really matter here as much as the device receiving the connection.

so what do you suggest in order to improve the data speed for the tethered device? or is there no way around this?

Like I said, it's dependent of so many things. First off, what device it receiving it? Is that device old? Are it's drivers up to date? Does it have a good reception/connectivity?
Did you try tethering to other devices?

I was wondering if there is any way to flash a international rom and implement the Wifi Calling back in the settings. Want to run wanamlite with Wifi Calling? Is this possible? Perhaps an apk for Wifi Calling. It is a T-Mobile device

Not yet. Its more than just an apk, which can be easily extracted and installed on any device. It needs a lot of libs to go with it, and those are pretty closed sourced and hard to figure out.
There is a team trying to reverse engineer it to get it working on non stock ROMs. They are doing it for another device but once its done it should in theory work for any device. Last I heard there was a sizable bounty of promised donations if they could get it working, so I'm sure they are motivated.
Many people will tell you this is and will always be impossible. But the WiFi calling app was hacked and made installable for ICS AOSP ROMs. So its been done before. They JB version is apparently tougher, but the software that couldn't be hack has yet to be developed yet as far as I am aware. Its jus a matter of if XDA's devas are smarter than T Mobile's devs

Thank you for the evaluated answer. I thought it was more along the lines of possibly working because of it originally having Wifi Calling. Its not like making it work on att or verizon. I thought it would be more of a verification issues with other carriers.

I'm 100% positive it will never work on other carriers (unless they introduce their own wifi calling app that woks on their networks)
The app itself checks your SD card and makes sure that you have a T Mobile account before authenticating you on T Mobile's server. So if you're on an AT&T SIM card it won't matter how well you get the app working, the app won't let you use AT&T accounts on the T Mobile wifi calling server.

I'm hoping that when the Google Edition of the S4 comes out that T-Mobile picks it up and they have to disclose stuff for WiFi calling to be enabled properly in AOSP.

I hope that Keidi Klum will show up at my door to deliver a briefcase full of money.
If you and I get together maybe we can start a support group for people who's hopes don't come true.
Fact is that the WiFi calling app is closed source proprietary stuff. It will get hacked by XDA, but T Mobile is never going to willingly release it. They have a vested interest in getting you to buy the phone from T Mobile. Why would they take away something that encouraged you to do that?

hello everyone, I have a rooted s4 on t mobile, i am using cyanogenmod 12.1 , my question is. up to now I was able to use my hot spot to watch Netflix on my Roku stick
without being slow down, today i noticed my Netflix would not work, I call t mobile and they told me it was because I had use all my allowed data, I never had the problem before, how can they tell I was using the phone as a hot spot, I though if you were rooted they could not tell if you were tethering, any answer will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
Dump that CM garbage and flash a TW or GPE rom.
So do you think it's Cm vi that caused it, I had a gpe rom before

It's just a good guess, but yeah. I've only ever had problems with CM or any rom based on CM.
CKC - I just started having issues this week too with my Hotspot. I'm on the latest insane hybrid TW
Probably was using a apn for tethering that wasn't the normal lte apn

Thus has nothing to do with what ROM you're running; since so many people are abusing the service (ie. forgoing home internet and using their phones to tether to), carriers found a different means to see who is tethering, and are cracking down in them.

After tinkering around, I found a workaround that is working for me so far so I decided to post. I am on insane hybrid and obviously rooted.
Installed newest google tether app (experimental version): https://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_4-experimental1.apk
- Left it as unsecured but enabled the access control
- Changed setup method to WEXT (ad-hoc) and started tether.
Streaming, downloading, Dropbox are all now syncing on my computer and I have full speeds again after being throttled. To browse with chrome, I installed the extension "user-agent switcher" and changed to "Samsung Galaxy S3".
I am curiuos if this works for anyone else, or if anyone has found an easier fix. Thanks.
hi everyone. did a search, didnt find what i was looking for. i've been using my wifi hotspot so much that i use up my date half way before the month ends every month. and my carrier doesnt have an option to increase hotspot data. so i decided to root my phone and try the wifi tether apps that are available in the play store. they work, but not as good as the stock wifi hotspot that my phone comes with. it doesnt even compare. is there an app that i dont know about or rom that works as good as the stock wifi hotspot on my phone? also the usb tether works, i have no issues with that. the problem is, i wanna use the wifi for my smart tv and xbox one, but they dont support the usb tether that i'm using with foxfi. thanks in advance. i'm using nexus 5x android 7.0 build n5d91L.
I dont know if im right, but PureNexus ROM has unlocked WIFI Hotspot. Im on this ROM but i cant test it for You (unlimited data on hotspot).

I see you mentioned a November build installed in your device. If you want to try PureNexus, be aware that ROM uses the December build which is based on official Android 7.1.1 and not 7.0 like the one you mentioned. You would need to update your bootloader, radio and vendor accordingly to avoid issues with that ROM. How-tos are everywhere, including in that thread (use Search).
I don't quite understand your original problem, since your WiFi hotspot tethering was working with the built in app. Do you have limited tethering but otherwise unlimited data? Did the PureNexus ROM hide this tether usage somehow?
I'm having this same issue, my phone won't even turn hotspot on with FoxFi. Its a brand new phone but decided to go ahead and root it.
Trying to find an app or build.prop line that will re-enable hotspot on Android 5.1.1.
