I've Got Problems! Please Help - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Kindle Fire (1st Gen) is giving me problems. I've lost the SD card partition and cant get it back.
The only thing I have is TWRP 2.8.3.0 and FastBoot.
I cant seem to ADB into recovery, I believe I read that this version of TWRP doesn't allow that but Im not sure.
I can boot into fastboot but with my limited experience I cant seem to get the SD card back so I can load a ROM and move on.
Please help when you can.

[Q] Kindle fire boot freeze

I've recently rooted my kindle fire and it has twrp and fff, I wanted to be back in stock "unbrick" so I shut down my kindle fire to go into twrp. I plugged my usb cable and sent the "unroot" file ti my kindle drive to unbrick it, but after i done that, I go to install to find the file i downloaded to i could flash it, but it wasn't there. I notice too everytime i plug in my kindle to my computer theres no "check" mark next to kindle when i plug it in. And the other problem is that I try to go back to my normal rooted kindle fire, and its stuck at the orange and white animated boot screen and it doesnt even flash. it just sits there and do nothing.
Any help would be thankful.
Josepho1997 said:
Um... I didn't understand any of that. Did you rename the stock os files to update.zip? If you didn't, rename it to update.zip and then use TWRP to mount your Kindle Fire and transfer the file. Then do a wipe and flash the update.zip.

Have I Bricked My Kindle Fire??

Was attempting to re-root my Fire with KFU, however KFU chose to install TWRP first which I think prevented me from ever achieving root. So as instructed to reinstate my stock Fire out of the box I flashed the update file as I had before to unroot it which worked perfectly. However, now I am stuck at the Kindle Fire boot screen and no TWRP to boot into recovery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reverting to stock, does just that. It reverts your device to the state it was in when it came out of the box, and is completely unnecessary. TRWP does not prevent "root", it simply aids in the "rooting" process, which is unnecessary in itself.
Put your device in fastboot (very likely it already is), reinstall TWRP, install FFF, wipe partitions, and flash a ROM. Problem solved.
IF any of this is foreign to you, you should do a little research before continuing and getting yourself into more trouble.

Getting the attached error from windows..
What I think is that you are in a different bootmode, but your kindle is not showing up as a adb device. Have you tried hard resetting? But remember, unplug the USB cable, then hold the power button for 20 seconds, power back up, and then see if you can see the kindle appearing in KFU
Edit: I agree with soupmagnet. If my suggestion doesn't work then use the links he posted and follow his method

Forget about rooting it for a second. It is unnecessary. Install a custom ROM and be done with it.
Again, if you don't understand why, go back a few posts and read again.
yes flash this and move on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916

HELP! Cyanogenmod Broke My Kindle Fire!

Hello all,
Right now I am getting very pissed at my kindle. I rooted it with KFU and installed TWRP and then flashed it to twa_priv's CM10.1/SGT7 ROM. After flashing it and gApps it got stuck on the cyanogen boot screen/animation. I tried to reboot it but it doesn't even show the option to go into TWRP anymore. It shows the orange Kindle Fire logo then goes straight to cyanogen and the logo just keeps spinning. I am getting ADB status when I connect it to KFU but I can not do anything with it or put it into Fastboot. Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point!

You shouldn't be mad at the Kindle, it didn't do anything wrong.
On the other hand, you probably failed to wipe system and factory reset before flashing the ROM (installation instructions are in twa_priv's SGT7 thread btw). Unfortunately, short of opening the case and list of other things that are outside the scope of this conversation, you're going to need a factory cable to get into fastboot.

I have the wall charger if that's what you mean by factory cable. Any more instructions you can give me so I can get back into TWRP?
If you're getting adb and the Kfu works why cant you just change to fadtboot from there?or re install root from here, adb should be able to give command line to access twrp

Because you need the shell to do so.

No, the factory cable is different. Look in the KF General forum for more information.

Personally I would say go with Skorpn's. They are made in small batches with great quality, fairly inexpensive, fast shipping, and everyone who gets theirs from him seem quite pleased with it overall. He's got a pretty good reputation on XDA so you should probably look into it, if not for that reason alone.

[Q] BAM 2.0 for jem/jemlte not working?

Hey, i got a kindle fire hd 8.9 lte, been trying a few ROMS but none of them gave me a working mobile network, so i found this BAM 2.0 kitkat ROM made for my tablet, jemlte, but after doing the flash nornally (with wipes) i get stuck on Orange kindle logo, i was able to fix this and get back to TWRP, and flashed cm11 again (working fine but its not lte). Also tried to install jem version and had the same issue, so i guess im doing something wrong or missing some step.
I would like to install this BAM rom, but after all the research, i just found some posts saying that after flashing BAM 2.0 you need to flash cm11 kernel, but i cant find it.
How can i get this kernel? I tried to get it from Haschode´s cm11 version but with no success, any help or instructions will be appreciated.
Link to BAM rom :
goo.im/devs/BAM/jemlte
The kernel is the boot.img in the zip file you flash for cm11. To be more precise, the boot.img is the kernel + intramfs. I don't deal much with ROMs outside the one I'm trying to port so can't be of much more help than that as I don't know the specific instructions for putting bam together like you say you are doing.

As far as i'm concerned, this ROM's code for jemlte is based on Hashcode's work for this device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391776. But, lte on this rom doesn't work either. So as for now we need to stay with stock to get lte working.
Yea he hasn't gotten lte running yet, think the reason was he needs a lte device to kinda test out changes on so he can get it working and he doesn't have one. Wish I could help get it working, think he may have said something about it might be something different in how Amazon's init.rc does things, but I may be mistaken about that its been a while since I perused those threads.

thx
Ok so i should wait for hashcodes versión then, thank you guys.
Its weird that i cant install the BAM 2.0 roms tho, either jem or jemlte gets stuck on kindle orange logo, and i have the latest twrp versión.
Have you ever been able to flash cm11 successfully? If not I might know why you cant get that ROM to work.

Yeah im posting from my kindle right now using cm11.
Ah then nevermind, sometimes the selinux stuff needs resetting on the use data partition, might be the case this time around but I'm not sure, I know a way to fix it if it is the case but unfortunately it would wipe your sdcard.

I tried formatting and wiping everything, and sideload the rom after, would you add a step or something?
Try running this from an adb shell, just make sure to unmount /data first:
Code:
mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/userdata
That should wipe selinux xattrib's from the use data partition, its basically a better way of doing an internal storage wipe. If it works then we know it was a simple selinux issue.

ah my bad i forgot to post the command before that:
Code:
umount /data
mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/userdata
or you can just unmount it in twrp by unchecking the partition under the mount menu(i think its the mount menu, don't have my kindle in front of me for reference)
aw nope it didnt work... had my hope there hehe
after i flash i get stuck in kindle orange logo, have to flash recovery and boot etc from fastboot, then re install cm11.
I will just wait for cm11 for lte, i wanted the bam version because it have the update app, so after i install it i wont have to check for updates, and eventually i was gonna get a working lte version... ill just keep checking for the cm version time to time. thank you very much anyways!
how did you fix once you fLASHED BAM
I I am stuck on the fire logo and cant get it to go no futher after I flashed bam can you guide me on how you fixed it to get past and flash cm11 back on my hd 8.9
