[Q] Odin 1.85 compatible with note 4? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there I just had a quick question that I can't seem to find anywhere on the net.
Ok so I only have access to Mac OSX computer. I would only like to root my sprint Note 4 running 4.4.4 and possibly reflash my soft bricked sprint galaxy S3 (but that's not as important)
Now to root my Note 4 I've tried Jodin but myself and a few others can't get the required pit file no matter how many attempts so I eventually gave up.
I stumbled across a different method of emulating Odin via WINE, it was suggested that only Odin 1.85 was stable enough to run via emulation so my question is can Odin 1.85 flash a cf root tar to a Sprint note 4?
If not then my last ditch effort is, would it be possible for someone else to upload their sprint note 4 pit file for me to use with Jodin? I've heard this is strongly advised against but I'm literally at the end of my wit.
Any and all helpful suggestions are welcome
Thank you

Sorry I can't help, but I gave up my quest and bought a cheap lap top. I wish they had odin for mac! I used to use my work PC, but the company put the stops to that....anyway, subscribing to this thread as I would love to pitch the laptop over a cliff... sorry windows is like a cheap whore, even with norton, it still gets viruses

Have tried boot camp
Have you ever used boot camp on your Mac Book, You can partition a certain amount of you Hard drive to installed Windows and when you boot up your Mac Book, you will have a choice of booting in your Mac O/S or Windows. I went out and bought 64 bit Windows 9 and set up about 80 gigs off of my Mac Book hard drive, then I follow a YouTube video of how to installed Windows with boot camp. Every thing work out perfectly, so if there no Mac method to rooting a particular phone, I have Windows on my Mac Book for problems like yours. Or you can purchase a cheap azz Laptop! Look at some videos on Boot camp to see if its something you think you want to do.

^ I tried vwware fusion..windows would run just fine, odin would run but it would not allow me to flash anything...im guessing its using usb3 ports...thats all my mac book has

i used odin 1.85 and it worked fine for me - this was on a PC.

[Q] galaxy note 8 factory restore

Hi guys. Im a noob, first post here and need some help. Be searching all day for how to load a stock rom to my device GT-N5110.
Heres the low down.
Purchased in Australia. No updates applied.
Success rooted with framaroot. Was running framaroot for more than a month
Install busy box today in normal mode I think. I chose the safe option.
Edited build.prop product model so I could install Navigon
Navigon working fine
Now..........
Unable to change the product name back using es explorer or file expert.
Thought it would change after restart but device entered bootloop. I think busybox was the culprit.
Discovered recovery mode and did factory data reset. Can acces odin screen on device too.
Device boots but hangs on language selection screen
I have found and downloaded stock rom for it that I found here somehow
I tried "Mrjraider" tutorial "how to flash back to a stock rom"
but odin crashes whenever I load the rom file and it wont recognize my GN8.0
Computer runs on windows 8. Kies is up to date too. Kies reconizes device but is unable to update or anything
Was running odin in win xp sp3 with administrator
can try on a win7 computer tomorrow.
This is the name of the file its about 1.2 Gb....... N5110UEDMD1_N5110XARDMD1_HOME.tar.md5 do I need to rename this or something
There was also a .dll that was in the package, wtf with that?????
be looking through this forum all day and night and cant quite find what im looking for. If what I seek is here please point me to it. Or if any one here in Brisbane, can fix it for me,What are your thoghts? PM me.
Just want my baby back working again.
Sorry, wrong section please delete mod
If I'm not mistaken, remove Kies, then try using Odin. Also, dll is a Windows file. I could be wrong about Kies, but I think I remember reading that it conflicts with Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Yesterday I installed same firmware in my computer runing win7 with Odin and Kies installed at the same time without problems. You don't need to rename the file, dll is a library for windows and needs to be on the same folder as the md5 file. Just remember to put the Note in download mode in order to get the firmware installed by Odin.
I have a thread in the development forum with the only file you need just flash in odin and done.

Tutorial is ok, problem seems to be elsewhere.
I have Windows 8 (x64) too, and Odin works i my case, i successfully flashed (and restored counter) N5110 before returning tablet to shop (it was exchange for N5100). Kill all Kies components via task manager, i have two more things in processes when i quit Kies. Next, try another version of Odin, but I remember one ROM from SamMobile, which crashed every Odin i had, so its may be this problem. Try another version of ROM - older, if exists. If crashes Odin too or not exists, try uninstall both Kies and Samsung USB driver, dowload toolkit from xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033) and install new driver via toolkit.
In rare cases may be problem in your computer, so try another one without installing Kies. I wish you luck.
Edit - That big file is ROM, dll is not needed for Odin. Run Odin, press PDA, select your rom. Turn tablet off, connect to comupter by original or hi-quality short cable, set tablet into download mode (hold vol- and home, press power on for 2 secs, select continue by pressing vol+). If all is ok, first field in Odin change color to yellow (i think), then press "Start".
Thanks to all. Let you know how I go. Odin 4.43 keeps crashing when loading the rom, on both my win8 laptop and fresh installed win 7 pc. Uninstalled everything from laptop except nero. Nothing installed on pc except modem drivers and Samsung drivers. I will redownload the rom. I think it may have become corrupt. Cheers
ok success. this is what I did. eventually got the rom to sit in odin without crashing it by simply renaming file by deleting the .tar.md5 extention. clicked off the file to save the rename. Right click on it again to rename and type the extension back in. Loaded it in odin and it worked. File name in odin showed up with duplicate file extention eg .tar.md5.tar.md5 but it worked. Odin 4.43 would not detect my device. Senior Moderator Mskip toolkit for Samsung galaxy note 8 would not detect my device .This was very frustrating
Used odin 3.07
loaded rom in pda. Found in janjannsen99 development thread.
connected device ,odin 3.07 detected it, unlike 4.43 for some reason.
clicked start.
Walla. Im a happy man.
This is the kind of story that are the most scary. Now I am kind afraid of root my note 8 or do anything unofficial.
Anyway, best wishes to you.

That's what I use odin 3.07 . Don't use the other versions for some reason they don't work
Secondly guys when you download that file in my thread tO your computer it has to be extracted first you only Click PDA In ODIN and use the file you just extracted with the tar md5 extension. Thats it. That ss.dll file has no purpose its just there and you need not even bother with it.

I am also trying to restore my US-based Note 8.0 WIFI (still on 4.1.2), but couldn't figured out which ROM file I need to download.
Could you tell me the filename? I am using the Note 8.0 toolkit.

I have checked that, but I don't see US Note 8.0. The search seems broken to, since United States is not shown in the list of country for Note 8.0
No one knows how to get the stock US based ROM?

people keep posting to go to sammobile but every time i look there isn't a rom labeled for the US, and they dont give an explanation of what rom would be the equivilant or even if any of them would be. Should I use UK version? is it the same as the US?
I'm having the same exact issue as OP and I can get into download mode and i have odin 3.07 but i am just looking for the exact rom to load and cant find an exact answer so far. I've already messed up my tablet enough today so I don't want to flash the wrong rom and make things worse lol.

ps I looked for janjansen's thread in development and did not see it, am I missing something? anyone got a link?
ok I did some more reading around the web and found that a lot of people used the UK version as I kinda suspected. Would have been nice to get confirmation on that but its cool, I flashed it, no problem, and now I'm setting up the chainfire root and getting back all my apps. So all in all it took a few days but I'm back on my feet *sigh of relief*

Odin for Mac OSX?

Hi.
I'm reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
which is very useful, trying to flash a stock ROM using Odin. My GT-N7100 is bricked, possibly with SDS. I'm on Mac OSX 10.8.4 and as far as i have read i need to download Odin 3.0.7 to my Mac (do they have a .dmg of this?). Samsung USB drivers to my Mac and the stock firmware from Sammobile.
The problem it is that everything is made for Windows. I'm seeing Samsung drivers in only Windows enviroment.
How can i flash using Odin on Mac OS X. Any links?
Thanks.
Another pal with SDS.
Hello there, Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you. I'm on a Mac primarily but do have a windows desktop I can turn to when I come across windows only solutions as we have here. You can install a windows os using bootcamp or virtually through something like virtualbox on the Mac. For me though the windows route isn't getting anywhere. I don't think you have a full SDS situation where your phone is a complete brick like mine though. From your posts it sounds like you can at least get into download mode correct? If so you should be able to download the original 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 firmware for the Note II and flash via Odin. I wish I could at least try this step but as it is my phone is completely dead and won't boot at all. I'm trying to figure out how to submit a support request in the US right now which is proving very unsuccessful so far since we have the Galaxy Note International version (GT-N7100) which Samsung USA does not support in any way. I'm taking my phone to a local cell phone/tablet repair shop tomorrow to see if they can get anything accomplished. Good luck in your quest!
I have done more reading and have downloaded Heimdal 1.4- as well some random country GT-N7100 stock sammobile build .tar file (June- 4.1.2)
Please i need some incredibly generous person that might have an idea how i can flash a custom rom using Hemdal 1.4. My phone doesn't boot. I only have access to the "download mode". (No- recovery mode). I'm almost sure i have SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) and i'm using OSX and my only choice is to try to flash the Note II with Heimdral.
Check if this helps

i am also a macbook user, and using note 2.
i installed also windows 7 on my macbook and choosing windows partition if i need to do something to my phone.
easiest way for me. its better to install windows too...
Thanks guys, i am going to try and get a windows computer tomorrow for a more straight forward process.

You can find it in mac softpedia, and it's an Odin equivalent..

Something went really ****ed when I tried to flash CM 10 on to my GS4 using Heimdall front end (1.4). Took it back to the store and they said they had never seen one fully "bricked like that"...
What steps did you follow if you dont mind? Explain like I'm 5 - they won't replace another phone for me haha

You don't use heimdall to flash cyanogenmod. You use it to flash the recovery, then you root from the recovery and then you flash cyanogenmod from the recovery.

For anyone still wondering about this. Get VMWare Fusion pro, install windows(I have windows 7 basic), then install odin(any version, i tested all of them), then flash that way.
And my specs are Macbook pro late 2011 2.4ghz quadcore running mavericks. Ive had no problems flashing whatsoever. Windows loads very quickly too

No hiccups, i just installed everything recommended. No special anything. And run odin as administrator. I probably flashed over 70 times already with 0 hiccups.

[Q] Root galaxy note 10.1 2014 using adb?

I'm very familiar with linux and adb. Can I root galaxy note 10.1 2014 using adb? All the instructions say to use odin,
but I don't have any windoze machines.
Nothing needs to be installed, just unzip Odin and run it so easy to do on a friends computer or at work (after hours of course).
Plan "B" would be a Windows VM (but a lot of work).

Should we not better use Heimdall? I mean this works on different OS and is a real development and not a strange leak program.
Or didn't work Heimdall with the Note (didn't check it until now)?

I wish I could use Heimdall, but I don't see any report that it works. I don't want to be the first to try it.
I could try running oden with virtualbox. But I'm nervous about usb passthrough functioning precisely
as expected. Again, I didn't want to be the first to try this, because a brick'd note is a possible failure mode.

[SOLVED] Please Help, PIT fails in ODIN and Heimdall

First off, let me start by saying that I was an idiot.
I've been flashing and rooting for years but this time I totally forgot about the change in bootloader from 4.3 to 4.4. So...
I was technically on 4.3 and decided to flash up to 4.4. I flashed everything (that included 4.4 bootloader) and got a PIT fail.
Now I cannot get it past the logo screen. I cannot download the PIT either.
Tried ODIN 3.7 and 3.9 (Using VMware) - always fails. I know I have the right drivers.
Tried Heimdall frontend and terminal. I always fail due to PIT check.
Flashing in recovery just tells me to install firmware via Kies but Kies doesn't recognize my device.
Phone still says that system status and current binary are custom so I believe I'm still rooted.
[SOLVED] Everything went smoothly on a regular PC. All these forum threads and yet I hadn't run into a single one that mentions you HAVE to use a PC rather than a virtual system or Heimdall in order to get this to work on a Galaxy Note 3.
I can tell you flashing on windows via vmware will fail every time. You must flash natively. Is this a Mac you are flashing on? If so, i'm afraid if you want Odin to work again you will have to boot camp your Mac.
Heimdall after the 4.4 bootloader will also fail every time. It only works for the initial flash (from 4.3 to 4.4), but after the 4.4 bootloader, it is a no go.

Thank you for your time. I am on a Mac and also figured that it probably had something to do with VMware. I'm glad to get a confirmation.
I am getting a replacement device today only because I need it for work so I couldn't afford to tinker with it this week.
p.s., I had tried several methods in other threads so I recognize your name. You are a gentleman and a scholar, good sir!

No kidding? I've been trying to leave Fresno forever, but the wife loves it here for some reason (family). Even when I was in the military, my wife lived here and made me live overseas and elsewhere in the country by myself. She only moved with me 3 times... Once to Oregon, once to the San Francisco area, and once down to Los Angeles. They were all very short tours also. Spent half my time overseas.
