HTC One M8 International model FW 1.12.1540.17
Bootloader: UNLOCKED
Rooted: YES
S-OFF: YES
CID: 11111111/SuperCID
I read here that my FW should be brought up to the current revision that a ROM I'd like to run should match. I notice most ROMs run on 1.54.401.10 & 1.54.401.5.
I have been attempting to update my FW but keep running in to error 24 parsing error, due to the modelid number not matching. I was under the assumption that one, FW must match ROM, and two that if I was S-OFF and SuperCID I could flash ANY firmware. So why am I having this issue?

Upon inspecting the android-info file it is not the same modelid as my phone. Again I know it doesn't match but I thought with S-OFF and SuperCID it did not matter?

Is it just as simple as renaming the modelid to match that of my device, like it is to remove the recovery.img to keep TWRP? Also will this cause me to lose S-OFF? Also I've been trying to flash 1.54.401.5, I have thought about trying to flash 1.54.401.10 but not sure if FW updates are incremental updates only, since the 1.54.401.10 has a lot fewer IMG files then the 1.54.401.5.

It is an unbranded International M8. The girlfriend took the OTA but I just pulled this from hers;

That's more likely not an international m8. International m8 model number I'd OP6B100 and cid is HTC__001.
I'm not sure where you got your phone from, also not sure if there is any difference between firmware of these two different variants.

I got my phone from a small local carrier in Wyoming, USA. They in the past have sold "International" models, SIM Unlocked. There is no branding or anything other then HTC on the device.
Not sure where to go from here...I know HTC has OTA update for it because girlfriends HTC is on the 1.54.whatever. So I'm at a loss of what I am to do.
I'd like to update to latest firmware keeping unlocked bootloader, root, s-off, and SuperCID(Which doesn't seem to actually work?) so I can install a custom ROM based on same firmware.
This has been a little frustrating, working on this for two days now to get to where I am.

Me and the GF got the phone same place, same time, right out of the sealed brown box they were shipped in, one after another.
I am running stock ROM, and have made a NANDROID backup with TWRP. I have also made a backup of my radio. Reading another thread my model # looks like an AT&T device but my CID is definitely different, and of course it is because I'm not on AT&T.

Ok, so when you try to check for update in setting--about--software update it says your phone is up to date right?
Also what is the software number in

My phone says there is an update available, I have NOT taken the update because I didn't want to lose the chance to unlock everything. Like BL, S-OFF, Root, SuperCID, etc...It keeps pestering about the update and the GF didn't care and took the OTA update. I'm coming from Galaxy S4, and DroidX so this HTC is WAY new to me.
Mine
Software number: 1.12.1540.17
GF's Don't care about this one but it recieved OTA from HTC, not carrier
Software number: 1.54.1540.9

Ok. There you go. You already have a-off, right. If you do, ota update won't put it back to s-on. I run ota while s-off and I stayed s-off. Also you do not need to relocked bootloader, but you have to have stock recovery.

LOL okay simple enough. I was concerned an OTA would wipe out all the S-OFF stuff and SuperCID. I will take the OTA update then. I see the GF's is 1.54.1540.9 which is where I assume mine will go, not 1.54.401.5 or .10 like the ROMs in the Android Development forum. These ROM's are still safe to flash?

It will update to the version that's written in the OTA notification. The last numbers of the version I.e. are just minor carrier/region differences. I believe .9 and .10 are almost identical. Maybe there is difference in radio or so.
The Roms from development forums are safe to flash now as well, they would run just fine, but I always update my to the last available just for hboot, radio.
Also don't forget that you have to flash stock recovery for ota so succeed. And also don't forget you will loose root. So after update you will need to flash stock recovery and root your Rom if you want. And of course Don't forget to make backup of your stock Rom just in case you need it again.

OP, you have the US unlocked M8, not the International one. The 'Security' in the update is to denote it's a security update and doesn't affect S-OFF at all.
If you want to change your phone to the EU unbranded handset you'll have to also change the MID but then it probably won't work on 4G properly so you're better off just updating with the build you have now

Thank you so much for this information. I take it when you say unlocked, you mean carrier unlocked, as the bootloader was locked.
How do I apply the OTA FW update to the device? Seems like a silly question, but when I follow along it boots straight to TWRP where it won't flash. Am I to flash this zip in ADB? Confused now

Download ota, flash stock recovery from here, make sure it match your current software number.

If you rooted you can flash it with this app, just make sure you flash it to recovery partion.

If not rooted flash it with fastboot.
Then click install ota.

Okay my original Cid is H3G__106 and I'm super Cid now, I downloaded htc 001 nandroid backup and changed my Cid to htc 001, as well looked for updates but the update fails in philz.
I need the newer firmware for the new viper rom. (4.4.3 base).
How can I get it?

Did you try to convert your device to international? MID and everything changed to International version? I'm not sure what the MID is for your device but if it's different than 0P6B10000 (International WWE) then it had to have been changed as well before you can convert to WWE version.
401.5 ? For what, 1.54.401.5 ... 2.22.401.5 ?
If you don't want to convert to International, rather go back download your backup from the collection thread and update your device to newest firmware from there.

The guides that I saw are for changing AT&T into Developer Edition or [GUIDE] S-OFF REQUIRED!! full conversion of GSM m8s to dev edition
Even though it's converting to a developer edition the philosophy behind it is the same when you change to WWE International version. Just use the correct backups, firmwares, MID and CID.
In step 1 you'll follow the thread and use the code for the HTC_Europe MID (0P6B10000).
For step 2 you'll just use HTC__001 as as the CID
Step 3 you'll grab the nandroid backup + stock recovery for the WWE International version (x.xx.401.x ) Rather use an older version like 1.54.401.5/10 and do updates from there, it'll be easier if you don't want to manually flash firmware and OTA's.
If you continue the way he has it in his guide then you'll get the firmware from the OTA collection thread(Just extract it from OTA.zip) or you can get firmware for device from mike1986's Androidrevolution.org
It's for a different device but the idea is the exact same.

1.54.401.5 is old Venom ROM version no.
H3G__106 firmware is : 1.54.771.9 (for 4.2.2) and you need the updated firmware 2.22.771.5 to run Venom 4.4.3
So download the OTA 1.54.771.9 -> 2.22.771.5 thanks @houstie, open it with 7-zip, extract out the firmware.zip and flash that in RUU mode.

Why not. Twrp is not "better" than philz and vice versa.....
If you want ViperOne, you'll want to switch to TWRP. It's on the OP on their thread.
Also, the super id I use is 11111111. Try that and see if it works.

you can flash roms without s-off, but some roms are going to need firmware that's up to date. Your phone will not get that up to date firmware unless you get s-off and do the developer edition conversion ( change CID and MID and flash DE RUU)
As Far as your phone being international it really should not matter as long as it's working on the carrier you use, it is a LTE compatable M8_UL

You need to s-off and update firmware to run that ROM, otherwise you will have some serious issues including long (like 5-10 minute) boot times and broken WiFi.
Same is going to happen if you try to run any 4.4.3 Sense based custom ROMs coming from 4.4.2.
Just search and read if want more info on firmware. This has been discussed probably dozens of times on other threads.

Do you still want to convert the phone to Developer Edition ?
If you want to just use the international firmware their here > http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One_M8/401/
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
If your looking to convert, you change your CID to BS_US002
and MID to 06PB12000 >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581
and then use the RUU here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ruu-developer-edition-3-28-1540-5-t2918749
fastboot oem writecid BS_US002

Just look in the Development forum section for the threads regarding firmware. You can flash after the fact (after ROM is already installed). But I normally recommend to backup any important data before flashing just about anything "just in case".

Relocking bootloader is not required or suggested.
I'm not sure which firmware goes with your CID. You'll need to research yourself, unless somebody who knows chimes in.
As long as you have a GSM M8, the firmware should be fine. But you may or may not experience some minor network issues, if the firmware is not intended for your carrier.

Yes but your s-off go ahead and do the conversion it's very easy
If you want to use the .401 versions just use the CID HTC__001 and MID 0P6B10000
with the instructions i posted above
1- i have 4.4.3 version can i flash GPE ruu 4.4.4 ... or i must flash the GPE 4.4.3 then update it ?

You will not get OTAs unless your MID and CID match the model and carrier of the update. You will also need the stock recovery, and an unmodified /system partition. Also if you use Xposed, you'll have to disable it since it uses /system.
I have super cid 11111111 and i will get the ruu GPE unrooted stock rom .... then after install i will get stock recovery
I don't understand what is xposed or modified system partition ,, can u explain it ,

If you don't know what xposed is, then don't worry. And If you get the unrooted stock version the /system will be unmodified.
You should be good.
Any links for gpe mid and cid will be great

hi all
my friend tried to update his phone, and all he's got is:
the phone can't boot into recovery. stuck on "entering recovery"
insert coin rom (v 3.0.8) works fine, except the play store!
i tried to flash a new recovery with no success. finally i flash a twrp by captain throwback version 2.8.0.6, and wow it works!
now, i'm wanna to update his M8 to least android version.
fastboot getvar all:
m8_ul
s-on
CID: HTC__K18
MID: 0P6B10000
HBOOT: 3.16.0.0000
version main: empty
settings >> about >> software information:
android version 4.4.2
sense 6.0
InsertCoin version 3.0.8
build number 1.54.401.10
can i simply flash 4.16.401.10 firmware.zip, least TWRP version, ARHD 34.0 (don't worry i don't forget the boot.img )
or
it's better to return to stock and perform software updates?
by the way,
the build number in settings, is the current firmware.zip that installed? or the firmware that the rom based on??
thank's
i read somewhere that its safer to flash firmwares in row, start at 1.54.401.10 then the others in the x.xx.401.xx line
you can also try simply to flash the latest RUU. maybe you get some wifi errors.
i was on 3.xx.401 firmware and installed the 4.x DEV RUU without any errors
yeah the build number in settings shows the rom base.
ok, thanks

so, i cannot know the exact firmware he has..
i'm asked that because the safest way to update is going back to stock. i found only 1.54.401.5 NAND Backups.
i'm afraid to flash the wrong nand backup..
how can i know which firmware he has?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
If you want to go the save way Try the 1.54.401.x RUU.exe from the thread. Then you should be fine to apply the otas
Dont be to afraid from flashing wrong files in most cases your phone wont get bricked it just dont boot up

Version main is empty because of the older recovery. Try to flash TWRP 2.8.4.0 again.
You can't flash the firmware zip without being S-Off. Sunshine is the only way to do it now, and it costs $25 (totally worth it). Or you could return to stock and take the OTAs. (stock ROM and recovery plus unmodified system partition)
The build number in settings is in fact the ROM base, and not the current firmware version.

first thanks for your help!
i will try this tomorrow .
on my m8 I bought sunshine (totally worth it) agree
but before i have s-off i'm flashed new firmware.zip (you have to relock your bootloader)
s-off lets you to flash firmware.zip without Signature and without relock
look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282

Another part of the problem is that HTC updates incrementally. You can't just leap frog from 4.4.2 to 5.0.1.
Once you get S-Off, you can flash a firmware zip from this thread. @Sneakyghost makes his firmware packages so that you don't have to flash each update one at a time. You can just jump to the newest.
But.....from the readout on the earlier post, it is WWE and there is an RUU for that. It is signed, so it should work. It will only get you to 4.4.4. (3.28.401.9 is the newest on this thread). You could try to flash the Lolly firmware after you have updated to this.
