Got HTC one m8 with lollipop on board, and for couple of weeks now got problem with auto-rotate, option is off but screen without any reason started rotate, it's very annoying especially when someone is calling me. Done 3 times factory reset, without restoring backup, set up as new phone was fine for week now, but today took out phone from pocket and what happened scree was rotated. I've got no idea what or where is the problem as got all the same apps as before factory reset. I'm guessing is that stupid lollipop as on kitkat didn't have problems like that. Is it any possibility to downgrade the software and come back to kitkat, I've got everything stock and I'm not rooted as well. HTC CID_001.

I dropped my G2 a while back and the screen cracked but still worked fine. I just got the digitizer replaced today, which I ordered on eBay and had installed locally. Everything works except for the auto-rotate function. Here is what I've tried:
Settings-->display-->auto-rotate screen is checked
I did a factory reset of the phone
The phone rotates to landscape mode ONLY when I use the keyboard
Any ideas?
Just throwing this out there but try going into Cyanogenmod settings>user interface> than scroll towards the buttoma nd see if 90 and 270 is checked. Might help and maybe try a game that uses the accelerometer to test if yours is broken? Not a expert on this kind of thing but just my advice to see if you track the source of the problem. And i am only assuming that you haev cyanogen
Thanks for the info, not rooted right now though.
Just went into Google Sky Maps and it doesnt rotate at all. Is there anywhere in settings to calibrate the accelerometer? Wondering if it's a problem with the new digitizer I got...
I've had a similar prob with 2 NIB G2's. It showed up after the OTA, Pre OTS, everything was fine, after, landscape only works with certain apps and games. I just live with it for now.
i'm bumping this. i am not rooted (yet) and have this same issue. wondering whether to do a factory reset or no...?
I purchased the Desire Z/G2 3 days ago now and I believe that the auto-rotate feature was first working on the home-screen. Now after 3 days it doesn't auto-rotate on the home-screen, but is fine with all other apps.
Is this a common problem as I feel to return the handset. I've already performed a hard reset but to no avail
Has anyone fixed this?

Desire Z or G2? The software is different, so you need to tell us which one you have.
If its the Desire Z, the Sense home screen does not auto-rotate (by design), and you are remembering it wrong (but it will rotate when you open the keyboard). Don't know about the G2, since I own the DZ.
Thanks Redpoint. I own the Desire Z, I managed to install an ADW theme and the auto-rotate feature seemed to work. So you are correct...wow my memory is alluding me.
Panning and rotate aren't working at all. They just stopped working recently and panning force closes when I try to test it.

I had the same problem. Dropped the phone from 2 feet and it would take forever to go to landscape and never go back to portrait. I flashed a ROM that morning before work and didn't get a chance to test anything till after the drop. I thought it was the ROM so I flashed a stock ROM and the problem persisted. So I flashed like 5 different ROMs and the problem persisted, then I realized that the gyro or accelerometer broke that day I dropped it. I downloaded an app to read sensor data, tried it on a couple of GB and ICS ROMs and the accel and gyro readings were always screwy. The funny thing is that when I took it to sprint they thought they were going to fix it with a factory reset. The guy came back out 10 minutes later confident it was fixed and the problem persisted. He didn't know that I had done extensive testing to find the root of the problem. Take it in let them do whatever they do then get a new one from warranty.
Thanks it managed to fix itself. Panning doesn't work still, but getting it replaced would be more trouble for me than for them for something I don't even like.
I've been using unlocked international M8 for more than 5 months, and I've never had any problems.
Few days ago I updated it to 4.4.4, and everything worked perfectly. But today I've noticed some strange issuses.
1. Screen turns on by itself
2. Auto-rotation is off, but screen is still rotating in every angle (including 180). I can even rotate screen on lockscreen, home screen or app list.
3. I can't browse the web because pages are constantly refreshing them by themselfes.
Phone is fully stock, never rooted.
Anyone has similar problem? Or does anyone know why is this happening and how to solve it? Any help is appreciated.
Random bugs after an update can often be resolved by backing up your personal data and doing a factory reset.
Hey guys,
I have a weired camera problem and I coudn't find anyway to fix it
The camera was working perfectly fine until one day It started being unresponsive sometimes and now I got to the point where it rarely responds!!!
When I open the camera sometimes it just shows black screen and I'm unable to do anything then after about 3 secs phone reboots and sometimes the camera app launches but the viewfinder is just black and sometimes it simply fc's!!!
I tried several camera apps (manul camera....) but in vain!
My first attempt to fix this was deleting data and cache for camera app! then I made a factory reset then I tried updating to android N DP4 and then I rolled back and in vain!!!
Once the camera srops working it will not work again until I reboot the phone and after I reboot it the camera will work for about 5 minutes to 1 hour then the problem starts showing!!!
Hope yo Guys can help me solve the issue I really like the phone and I don't wanna lose it!
Thx in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue to me. I would send it in for warranty or repairs if possible.
Did you managed to get it fixed? I have the exact same issue. I think it first started happening after the latest security updates. I hope it's not hardware related, this phone just came back from lg repairs for faulty digitizer.
i got the same problem. i just try to install the final version of android 7.0 and hope the problem won't show again...
i'm anyway quite sure it's not a hardware problem, cause when the camera works it works great and shoots perfect photos and videos...i think it's the last security pack update which causes these problems, and maybe the solution will be the new security pack update, of september
I had the same issue, and I simply couldn't fix it by any means. It just started to happen after 3 months of use, and came out of nowhere.
I had to return it, luckily it was amazon......
Really weird.
Here's the complete details guys.
I am having TWRP installed with the latest version of OxygenOS 3.2.1. I also had xposed module installed. Overnight I had put Asphalt 8 for download and in the morning when I opened the phone everything had been gone, all the data, contacts and applications, even the root had been gone.
Any reason behind this?
You got ghosts in your house.

sometimes crazy **** happens, no explanation, i have had that happen to me to where i woke up to the same thing, its was like a factory reset, maybe we do things we do not know when we are asleep. Us flashaholics prob have a condition called sleepflashing
Ya know what I had the same issue, I thought it was cause I flashed 3.2.1. It was weird, I ended up just rooting again, but still weird tho
Running Android since 1.5..... Boosted OP3
My phone is stock and no custom recovery installed. Also no root. Some days ago I took some pictures during a concert. When I took out my phone like 30 minutes later and switched it on, it's was completely reset to factory settings showing me the language selection screen. Might that be close to your issue?
I hope it's a one time issue and not related to a memory leak or any other broken bit of the storage...
