I have lost my imei and was going to load original firmware, but my phone has confliciting information. The label under the battery with the imei says T999L but the about device settings say I747. Which do I use?
What is the model number in download mode?
How did you lose the imei?
I flashed a rom based on the sticker sayng it was a T999L. In download mode it says I747. I will try to odin a I747 rom on to it. My nv_data files have completely disappeared off of this phone.
Do not use Odin to flash anything until you confirm the bootloader on your phone. The bootloader version may help you identify the actual motherboard in your phone.
Flashing the wrong ROM in Odin can hard brick the phone.
The bootloader says I747. Any suggestions on how to get the nv_ files without having the previous files?

excuse for butting in @audit13 , isnt the motherboard fairly easy to get to and see version number? or am i way way off. (no longer have my S3 to check).

You would have to remove the battery and use a small phillips screwdriver to remove the back frame. Above the sim card holder is the model # of the phone. Mine is stamped "SGH-i747" even though I know I have an i747m.

By Sim unlock, do you mean you want to use an AT&T phone on another carrier? If that's what you are looking for, give me a few minutes to test something.

Yes, of course.
But I am fairly new to the note 2 so I don't have much stored up information. I now see a post that indicates that flashing a certain 4.1.1 modem, MJ2 I think, gives the user a service menu where you can change the unlock setting. So now the OP's question makes sense. Only he should have been able to find the same post I did.
In a minute, as soon as my wife lets me borrow her phone, I'm going to test an unlock tool I know about to see if it works on 4.4.2 stock.

The dialer codes that worked on 4.1.1 to unlock the phone via the hidden menu. Does not work on 4.4.2 anymore. And being you took the ota update, there's no way of downgrading you firmware...
Sorry to tell you..
Another way is to contact AT&T by email, about unlocking the phone. Can't remember what the exact name is, but goggle search it. They'll send you the SIM code, if the phone is out of contact!!! Takes about 2-3 days when I did my skyrocket to run on TMO.

At one time, there was a free app on XDA called GalaxSim Unlock. For some reason, the developer pulled the free app download, and the only version then available was the paid version on Play. I have a copy of the free one from before it was pulled, and it works on the Captivate and the Galaxy S II, and some other galaxy phones, not sure which ones. So I tried it tonight on my wife's Note 2 which is running Stock NE5 with TWRP recovery and has the MC3 boot loader. However, the unlock failed, saying unable to read nvdata. So it's apparently a no go on this phone.

That only works if the contract the phone was in was not defaulted, and or you are the original owner of the phone.
re: sim unlock
I recently bought a soft bricked SGH-I317 (stuck on "firmware upgrade encountered and issue"). I tried flashing LJ2 firmware and got it to change to being hung on the "Samsung Note II" logo. I think this is when it changed as I was trying all sorts of flashing trying to get off the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen (also Kies would not recognize that the phone was connected). Tried different recoveries and firmware without making any progress until I flashed the 4.4.2 (I317UCUCNE5) bootloader. The phone booted into Philz recovery after that. I then flashed the stock LJ2 firmware w/ LJ2 modem, sim unlocked the phone and then flashed Skynote Air 4.3 along with the 4.4.2 (NE5) modem. This is the setup that I am using on T-Mobile now with no problems except that the Knox counter is tripped. Hope this helps shed some light on the problem.
I discovered a problem with Skynote 4.3 with the 4.4.2 bootloader. If I try to charge it with the phone turned off, the phone will freeze at the empty battery symbol and requires a battery pull to get the phone to turn on. Everything else seems to work okay.

It's a network unlock, so you are free to use any GSM carrier. You can lock your sim card -- then a pin is required for your phone to connect to your carrier. It's the old skool method to stop unauthorized use, from the days before a lock screen pin.
I bought a SGH-I317M today off someone. It was locked to Bell Canada. I did the dumb thing by letting Kies update the firmware. And as i've read I'm pretty screwed for downgrading it. I tried unlocking it but the hidden menu didn't give me the 4th option in the network lock path. So i tried bunch of things which at one point required me installing Kies for drivers and thats when I i let it slip and update. So now I'm still searching for a method to unlock my phone. I've gotten philstouch recovery on and Skynote working. I just tried flashing the rogers_j2 modem.. hoping this will work.. you think I should just pay one of those sites or a retailer for the sim unlock ccode?

Please let me know if it works. mine is galaxy note 2 4.4.2 NE5 baseband and I've done some research and they said that if you upload your firmware thru OTA there is a possibility that it will soft brick you phone due to unknown security reason.
I'm just waiting for conformation from some one that it's safe to flash J2 modem on a NE5 OTA
in the US, if your phone is more than 6 months old and your contract is in good standing you can ask for the unlock code. I don't know if Canada is similar.
I was going to post the same question about unlocking I317 4.4.2, and found this post which is similar to what I'm looking for so just want to add to pump the question.
It's been a while but I have done unlocking for other At&t models (S3, S4) and learned that later versions don't with the option in hidden menu to unlock, and the work around is to downgrade. However with devices that have OTA updates, it's not possible to downgrade the bootloader.
Is this the same for Note 2 I317? If so, any other method available to unlock this device to use it on other GSM networks? (I just bought one and it's on Kitkat 4.4.2 UCUCNE5, and looking for unlock...)
It's only the modem that needs to be flashed. So whatever bootloader you're on doesn't matter.
I wanted to unlock my phone today. ATT website wouldn't let me do it until my contract was fufilled, so I did some web searching.
Started with 4.4.2 and NE5 baseband. Loaded original baseband via recovery, and used the debug menu to unlock the sim. After that, updated the baseband back to the latest. Tmobile sim seems to be working just fine.

Hello everybody
I have a Samsung S3 SGH-i747M (from Canada) with 4.4.2 and version I747MVLUFNE6 which is locked. It asks for "SIM network unlock PIN".
Is there any way (I don't care for the warranty) to make it work with an other SIM? I am currently in Switzerland.
Thank you very much in advance!
No you'll have to either call the original carrier of the phone and request the code or pay for the unlock code.

Do you know a reliable site where I can ask for the code?
There's lots of them out there. Pretty sure eBay has some and you can judge by their feedback and ratings...can't think of any specific ones right now though.

The problem is that I don't know at which carrier belonged the phone and one page that I found, that doesn't require the carrier and I think read that is reliable (swiftunlock.com), does not include the i747m in the list.
Any ideas or any other sites?
Any that offer it for the I747M should work. Don't take my word for it though. Ask the vendor first.

All the sites that i found ask for the carrier which I don't know or to have the phone rooted and have a version lower than 4.1.1 which I don't .
Is there any way to find out at which carrier it belonged?
Or any other reliable solution?
Please... :crying:
Go yo swappa.com and check the imei. I think it shows the original carrier when it does the check.

Once you are on the 4.3 ot 4.4.2 bootloader, you cannot downgrade the bootloader and the 4.1.1 modem will not work on the 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader.
You must be on at least the 4.1.1 dialler and modem.

damnit, just saw this. Is there any way to downgrade to unlock the SIM? What about if im on a different ROM?
There is no free way to sim unlock your phone once you have the 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader on your phone.
How to know on which bootloader ( bootloader 4.4.2 or 4.3) I am coz I was able to install a custom rom on my SGH-I747M The rom is dirty unicorn android 5.1.1 lolipop rom so Can I downgrade coz if I remember correctly I upgraded from stock 4.1.1 so can I downgrade to stock 4.1.1 by downloading and injecting it via odin is it possible or will it hard brick my phone and can you give me way to confirm what bootloader I have ???
Boot into download mode and look at the screen. If you see anything about knox, it likely the bootloader can't be downgraded to 4.1.1.

Download and install the Samsung phone info app from the play store, run it, and look at the last three characters of the bootloader. If it is mk3 or higher, the bootloader can't be downgraded.

Not quite sure where to put this but I have just successfully sim unlocked a samsung galaxy s3 sgh-i747m on 4.4.2 .This is only prelimary but upon unlocking and inserting a Public Mobile sim I was able to text on a Canadian Rogers S3. No further testing has been done. I first rooted the phone using Kingoroot and then downloaded the phoneinfo app from play store. I then used the app to get to service menu.At first service menu is blank but I used menu ,then key input Q, then back, then key input 0000,then back and then service menu appears. Now I am doing this from memory and no longer have the phone or another one at the moment to confirm this and will update this as soon as I can. But to the best of my knowledge I first went to UMTS(1) ,thenDEBUG(1), then Phone Control(?), then Network Lock.. Perso-SHA256 was on(1) I set it to off (0). I then backed out of the menu and shut down phone.I inserted PM SIM in phone and booted up .Phone didnt ask for unlock code and shortly I had texting service with Public Mobile. I dont have voice or data to check those but cant seewhy they wouldnt work. Anyway can someone confirm this working. My steps may not be exact but if it worked for me it should work for others.
Ok, so I am trying to figure out what version of the Galaxy S3 I actually own. This was listed as a refurbished I9300 International Unlocked S3 from Amazon.
Upon boot it shows GT-I9300
The sticker on the back of the phone show GT-I9300
Listing phone specs through an app shows - 1.5GB RAM and dual core processor
The ROM information shows GT-I9300 / custom when trying to flash any new roms(the flashes always fail)
When the phone is put into download mode it shows SGH-I747
I am attempting to flash a new custom rom but it fails no matter if I choose I747 or I9300 versions. Cannot for the life of me figure out what this phone actually is to see if I need to attempt flashing new firmware. Any help is greatly appreciated.
i believe the playstore has an app called android info. it might give some insight , or it might tell you the same. but maybe worth a try.(?).
"all I can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
The phone info app will show you the model number for your bootloader. The bootloader model number is correct. I have had a similar problem with my S3. I had to open it with a screwdriver. And the model number on the motherboard matched the bootloader model number.
If you have a terminal emulator installed on the phone you can bet the bootloader version by entering this command:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader

Do not attempt to flash anymore stock ROMs on your phone until you know the current bootloader. Sounds like you have at least a 4.3 bootloader and attempts to downgrade the bootloader can brick you phone.

Hello everybody,
I have bricked my device once (SGH-I747 AT&T) by flashing wrong bootloader to my phone (It's a very noobish mistake, I know) and I had to pay someone to unbrick it by using a J-Tag but this person told me he was "unable to install SGH-i747 bootloaders" and now I'm unable to use LTE because I have a Non-LTE bootloader and modem. I've tried flashing T999L modems but no SIM card/IMEI recognized so I had to go back to T999 modem. The questions are:
Can I Odin flash SGH-I747 bootloader I747UCUEMJ2 without bricking my phone?
My phone is unlocked to use with any operator, will it remain unlocked after this?
My IMEI will be ok after this?
My phone information is:
Baseband: T999UVUEMJC
Bootloader: T999UVUEMJC
Android Version: Lineage 7.0.1
RIL Version: 3.0
Thanks in advance.
I have never heard of anyone being able to flash a T999 bootloader onto an i747.
Did the phone come from AT&T? Did the phone have the AT&T boot screen?
Did you verify the phone's model # in download mode before bricking?

Thanks for your answer.
Yes, the phone was AT&T, it also says SGH-i747 behind the battery and it was I747 model on settings. It had a 4.1 custom rom when my brother gave it to me. I tried to upgrade it to 4.3 but I didn't know about bootloader stuff and tried to flash a bootloader using twrp so I've bricked the phone. The only way to unbrick it was with j-tag and the person who did this told me he was able to do so with T999 firmwares so now I have a T999 no-lte phone. Would it be risky to change it back with Odin to I747 bootloader and modem? Is there any safe way to do this?
Thanks again.
You can't cross-flash bootloaders with Odin, TWRP, or CWM without the possibility of -rebricking.
Does the IMEI in the phone (dial *#06#) match the imei on the label under the battery?
I'm very surprised that the phone's bootloader had to be cross-flashed. Where did you get the bootloader that you flashed?

Yes, the IMEI matches. I do not remember where I got that bricker bootloader, neither the installed one (as it was not flashed by me). I can remember that when I received the phone after unbrick, it was SIM locked so I had to give the phone again to this person to fix the SIM-Lock. As far as I know, AT & T I747 is unlocked, so my phone totally became T999.
Any safe way to try this? Or will I be using T999 forever?
Thanks again.
Boot into download mode and confirm that the model # is sgh-t999. If it is, you're stuck.
I've readed that full back to stock might help but it's nearly the same process of flashing everything so I'm not sure...
