hi everyone just a couple of questions for you
1. is it possible to get s-off on uk vodafone contract phone?
2.what is the procedure for s-off for this provider locked phone?
3. is there a stock image for me to revert back to on vodafone uk?
i really wanna try different roms with this phone but more worried about warranty and flash counter etc voiding the warranty
help would be extremely appreciated if you need any details of the phone dont hesitate to ask for them, build number etc
1. So long as you're not on Lollipop it should be possible
2. Same as any other phone
3. Yes, using the backups in the backup thread
And there is no flash counter on HTC phones

no problem, so for warranty sake just bring everything back to stock? put s-on back to normal, and yes i did the upgrade to lollipop i take it i will have to revert back to 4.4 if thats even possible now
You can't downgrade unless you're S-OFF. For warranty I wouldn't even put back to S-ON again, but everything else would need to be put back to stock
No problem thank you for your help i will look into doing s-off ? and let you know results

I'm very sorry this is such a noobish question but i was wondering if i could get some help by the people who know what they're doing.
So far what i've done is the following
1- Unlock the bootloader
2- Install Clockwork mod recovery
3- Flash 1.28 firmware
4- Install custom rom (leedroid) + flash boot.img
5- Root phone
Now i've descovered my phone has a few issues and i am entitled to send it back for a replacement.
Could someone tell me the order of how i can undo all the above. I have a nandroid of the original rom. Do i flash that first and then go from there? I need it to be exactly the same as when i first bought it.
Links to guides would be great. Thank you for your help

If you have a nandroid backup when you flashed custom recovery then restore the backup and relock the bootloader.

Thanks,
Once i've got the nandroid backup done do i flash the stock recovery, then relock the bootloader?
So once thats done no one will be able to know anything has been done to it, correct?

They can still tell that you have unlocked the bootloader because it will say "RELOCKED" and not even flashing the RUU for the carrier of your phone will do anything because it will still say "RELOCKED"
Would that stop a UK company from exchanging my phone for hardware defects?

I am not sure. HTC reckons we void the warranty by unlocking the bootloader. But if you have bought it from a shop they tend to just turn the phone ON and look at the problem and they should swap it for another handset or give you a refund. Sales person normally don't get into the bootloader to check out anything. They more than likely have a look at the problem with the software or hardware defects. But if they decide to send it back to HTC then you might not get it replaced.
Ok,
Thanks for your help mate
Hope it gets replaced with one with no issues!
Also forgot to mention once you have restored your nandroid backup, flash the stock recovery and then relock the bootloader.
If you have a nandroid backup when you flashed custom recovery then restore the backup and relock the bootloader.
And if one happens to be the sort of complete fool that forgets the nandroid backup because they were too interested/ wrapped up in all the adb stuff to have remembered this what does one do with a 3 phone? Are there no 3 ruus in the wild at all? None listed on the file forum place.

I have to admit I am such a fool. But lucky for me my phone is unbranded and has the HK 1.26.708.2 ROM which is in the list so that saved my ass. But for 3UK you might have to wait a bit until someone uploads it. I'm pretty sure it will appear sometime just don't know when.
im in a similar situation apart from i installed ARHD rom and i do have a backup of stock rom from when i installed cwm but my problem is, i flash backup and then flashed stock recovery but when i lock the bootloader and reboot i get greeted by the 1st htc logo then the screen flashes and the same logo appears but under it is some red writing that says something about being a development build and then it boots its self into fastboot but then if i unlock bootloader again the phone boots backed up stock rom fine!?
mines getting picked up on tuesday but i suppose on a plus side a courier is dropping me a replacement and taking my old one away at the same time, so unless the courier starts booting into hboot i should be ok lol
Give me half an hour and I can upload it for you.

Link doesn't work mate?
What's it supposed to be?
Ok guys, so today i flashed the nandroid backup but now i'm just stuck at the white HTC boot screen.
No idea what to do next?
Is it because i was on 1.28 firmware and restored down to a nandroid with 1.26? Is it because i haven't flashed stock recovery yet?
Really need help as i need this done before tomorrow UK time.
Thank You
bump.
I really need help now.
I have nothing on the root of SD card so i can't even flash a custom rom. What do i need to do to get my phone working?
My Three model comes unlocked but is already behind when it comes to firmware. It also only has the APNs for Three (so I have to manually input for any other SIM I insert) and there's an annoying splash screen.
I'm not very well-read when it comes to flashing HTC devices but am I right in thinking that there is no way to flash stock firmware without S-off and bootloader unlock? One good thing about even the Sony handsets is that you can flash stock firmware without going through hell.
If I'm wrong could someone point me in the right direction. Not the end of the world if I can't 'stockify' but it would be nice
Just flash the stock Rom from Mike in the dev thread.
No need to change firmware. That would take s-off anyway.

Does this require boot loader unlocking or a simple flash?
Unlock bootloader.
Flash a recovery through Fastboot -
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Put rom on sd
In recovery backup current rom, then flash custom rom
Hmmm I'd have to have the 'tampered' warning and lose my warranty that way wouldn't I?
Might just live with it for now. Thanks though.

I thought if you unlocked the bootloader it invalidated the warranty? Or have things changed?
That's a common misconception.
Unless you broke the actual hardware, they are still liable for it

As long as the issue isn't blatantly caused by unlocking it, there won't be a problem.
Mine have been s-off and unlocked. They just send them back locked and s-on

If I flash this stock ROM will it receive OTA updates just like a normal stock phone?
No, though you wouldn't need to the updated custom Rom will be out before the ota is.
Of course you can always go back to stock if you keep your backup.

I have an AT&T M8 with 4.4.3
Its unlocked and rooted, firewater was unsuccessful with this error....****** device patched by HTC, you are out of luck *********.
Is there any way to return to stock without S-Off?? If so could someone please point me in the right direction?
I'm a newbie with htc and very aggravated with this phone.

Can you provide me with the link that says you need to be S-OFF to get your phone back to stock, where you clearly didn't have to be S-OFF in order to take it away from stock in the first place?
I'm asking this because you are one of many that I've seen recently that comes on here asking the same question, can I go back to stock while I'm still S-ON ? "Should I be S-OFF in order to restore a nandroid backup?" etc...I would really like to know where you guys get this information from?
The only thing that you'll need S-OFF for(when going back to stock) is to fix the tampered flag in the bootloader and to have it show "locked" instead of "relocked" when or if you locked the bootloader.
That being said, going back to stock from where? Did you flash custom ROMs? Or are you only rooted and unlocked?
My phone is stock, but unlocked with root, my main goal is to reload the original recovery, relock and unroot.
I was watching a video on how to use RUU and according to the instructions you had to be S-Off.
Anyone

You need S-Off only when you want to remove TAMPERED and RELOCKED flags.
Other than that, you don't need S-OFF
You have AT&T device, AT&T forum is where you'll find more info.
Try this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-2-23-502-3-bootable-ruu-pc-required-t2860486
Important note :
S-On - you need to relock bootloader first before running it. So read and read the instructions
and there are many more guides on AT&T forum

You could use the AT&T RUU that is available on the AT&T forum.
At&t 2.23.502.3 - 4.4.3 Bootable RUU - No PC required - Mac friendly
Like the OP there said, if you are S-ON you should lock the bootloader first before using the RUU. I think that should take care of most of the other issues you have, like unrooting etc. Make a backup of any personal stuff you have on phone.
Or
Download unsupersu, flash it in custom recovery to unroot device. If you use SuperSU you can also go into settings for SuperSU and use Full Unroot. Reboot phone, can then uninstall SuperSU. Should be unrooted.
Flash back stock recovery for your device.
Relock bootloader - fastboot oem lock
Will this also restore the factory recovery instead of twrp that is on the phone now?

That's also in that very same thread we linked you to!
Post number 7
Post number 15
But I take it you didn't read at least the first 2 pages...
It'll take you back to stock completely, like the OP said in Post 15.
Just remember to relock your bootloader seeing as you're S-ON.
Thanks for your patience and help,
it worked flawlessly.
Hey guys, so I have to give my phone back to Verizon for the Edge plan... to cover my a$$ and avoid anything going wrong I wanted to return the phone as close to stock as possible.
I want to avoid S-off/S-on tampering and using RUU because I'm already off the VZW network with this device and I won't be able to do any OTA's plus I don't trust myself enough to go back to S-on without messing something up
So I wanted to know if I could just relock the bootloader and unroot the device without having to S-on again or use RUU?
If someone could kindly point me in the right/easiest direction to do this that would be great as I have been searching for the past 4 hours trying to figure it out lol
Flash the faux hboot made by santod(this is purely cosmetic and makes the hboot appear locked and s on without a tampered flag). Then flash the stock odexed full rom, flash the stock recovery and then unroot.

Alright so I got the fake hboot flashed as well as stock odex'd full with all the bloatware. Do I flash HTC recovery before unrooting? How do I unroot? Having Superuser in the app drawer might be a dead giveaway
Yes flash the stock HTC recovery first. Then open Supersu. Go into the setting and select full unroot. After that you should be able to uninstall it.
Perfect! Everything worked and it looks fresh out of the box. Thank you guys for all your help!
Yes i read threads over going back to stock but my question is a little bit different
I got a dutch T-mobile branded M8 after i did my first root i made a a backup from my phone with TWRP.
i can't get S-OFF, so my phone is still S-ON!
Now i got the problem that my HBOOT isn't updated since, this is giving me problems with newer versions of TWRP and so for CM12.
My thoughts were:
- flash my backup to my phone
- ? 1
- ? 2
- update it regulary via ota updates (guess my phone is updated to the latest hboot)
- Root my phone
- install any new rom
Frist my questons are for the questionmarks in my steps:
? 1: Should i un-root and relock my bootloader?
? 2: Anythinge else i missed?
Thanks in advance

You can't s-off, since sunshine says your phone is not supported? Or you don't want to pay for sunshine?

1) No need to unroot or relock bootloader. But no system files can be modified in order to OTA. If you made the nandroid right after installing TWRP and root, without any other mods, you should be OK.
2) You also need to flash stock recovery to install OTA

If you want s-off, pay for it. Otherwise, don't. And I agree that if the goal is merely to update firmware, you don't need s-off in your case. As for the importance, s-off allows a number of things, including being able to flash radios, modified hboots, and unlock SIM. These may not be relevant or needed by you.
But to say you can't s-off is not correct. You just don't want to. When asking for help, its best to provide the most complete and correct information.
