Hi guys. Kindle 8.9 HD non-LTE. Today I flashed LiquidSmooth 3.2 (and Liquid_gapps build 8.1) over CM11, then did full wipe/reset. Overall the ROM is great, seems much smoother than CM11, but two potential dealbreakers:
1. Youtube doesn't work at all. Says connection to server lost. I've seen some suggestions to try Cposed module, but doesn't seem many people have had success.
2. Google Now doesn't work. It says Network error whenever I try to open. I tried to uninstall all updates and install the google app clean, no luck.
Any thoughts/help on either? Thanks.

Hi - I got everything installed and set up just fine on my Kindle Fire, with one glaring exception - I cannot get the Google Apps to install. Whenever I try to install them, I get a message that the zip files could not be extracted...but the zips for the ROMs install flawlessly. I have sideloaded the apps as instructed elsewhere in the forums, but anytime I launch a Google app, I get the login screen, it hangs for a few minutes, and then gives me a message that my "phone may not be provisioned for data services". WiFi is fully functional, and nothing else ever gives me a networking error.
I have tried multiple Google app file bundles, multiple Google system framework APKs, and cannot get past this problem. I have cleared the cache and the Dalvik cache before every installation, et al.
Any help would be appreciated - the work on this is absolutely incredible. The fact that I am able to use a Kindle Fire that my daughter tired of after a month for an Android tablet at work is amazing. Exchange works great - it would be even better if I could get Google Play and the associated Google Apps running though. Thanks a million in advance.
What ROM are you using? Which TWRP version are you using?

I had the exact same problem a week or two ago. I ended up wiping everything (except SD partition), re-flashed the ROM and had success. I was getting the same message when trying to connect initially to Google. I'm a big fan of starting over fresh to solve problems lol.....after the fresh flash I side loaded the Gapps I wanted. The ROM was cm10 alien and I also use the same TWRP.

Okay So I am tired of trying this on my own and failing so heres the deal... I rooted my Kindle Fire a while ago but for some reason something went wrong in the process. I couldn't browse on the internet without getting an annoying error message and the android market wasn't getting installed. So today I tried fixing it.. AGAIn but today I managed to reinstall CM7 and now I can browse the internet with no errors BUT I still can't get the Android market/ Google play store to get installed properly. So everything seems to be working fine but I can't install the market/play store. So can anyone help me? I tried a few guides most were a little out dated.
If anyone can link me to the proper up to date files for installing the google play store app on my Rooted Amazon Kindle Fire ( running CM7) please post here.
Hey. So you need to install the Google Apps (aka Gapps). I couldn't tell if you had outré if you just installed the play store. Either way, I would reflash the Gapps designed to work with cm7. You can access the Gapps from this thread of hashcode's. Just download the right one and flash it with TWRP in recovery or by adb if you're good with that.

thanks but I fixed it, well not really "FIX" but I installed Jelly Bean and everything works great and I like it better than what I was running before so I guess even though I really wanted to run CM7 this was a needed upgrade. Thank you for your help .
Hello,
I had just flashed CM10.1, and to reiterate the title, experiencing issues that I could not find answers for.
First: Why is Auto Rotation not working? (have already looked into settings, all check out)
Second: Where is the button(the one with three dots on the bottom bar in the right corner that appears in apps, i think it was made to open in app settings) not there?
Third: (may or may not be because of rom) Kindle Fire does not connect to computer and be detected whatsoever( it did work when i had and older version of TWRP, just had to mount usb in recovery, but when i did update TWRP, it stopped appearing in computer even when mounted)
I Flashed this build:cm-10.1-20130611-0025-otter-sgt7, which i downloaded from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=20513
If anyone can help, thank you, my frustration is starting to get the better of me.
1. Not sure about this one. When I used the 6-11 build rotate worked. Now I'm on cm 10.1 official "stable" and rotate doesn't work.
2. Go to settings - system -hardware keys, and check "show action overflow".
3. Try reinstalling the drivers you used to root your kf. Try reinstalling multiple times if it doesn't work at first. Eventually it showed up for me.
Cheers!

same here. when I flashed the official cm10.1 2013 otter, my auto rotation would not work. This also happen on the last RC zips. When I flash the latest Nightlies 0624, all is well.
Not sure about this one.
Rotation works on smooth ROM (cm 10.1)

I'm having the same issue with my KF regarding PC recognition. I've tried installing the drivers a million times and I just can't install them again for some reason. I'm stuck at this point.
Try and wipe the cache, dalvik, etc. and do a fresh install of the .zip, because mine works fine. I had trouble before with connecting to PC via USB, but re-installed and enabled USB debugging and now it is working fine!
probs with kindle 1stgen&cm10.1&playstore

Merry Xmas to all
My Kindle Fire 1st Generation is rooted and now boasting JB 4.4 ROM. Everything worked perfectly until last night when Kindle App stopped working ("Unfortunately, Amazon Kindle has stoped" message). I have tried to reinstall the ROM, wipe the cache and dalvik, install 4.4.2 ROM, downgrade to 4.3 ROM and nothing has worked. Everything else is working fine.
Any ideas or similar experiences?
Cheers everybody.

Yes, I had the same problem, but I was able to get it to work by downloading Build.prop Editor from the Play store and using it to change the ro.product.manufacturer line from Amazon to Samsung. I'm guessing Amazon intentionally stop their non-stock apps from working on Amazon devices to avoid people using non-stock apps by mistake, but hopefully changing this workaround will work for you.

I, too, had the same problem, and your fix with Build.prop editor worked for me! Thanks, thanks, thanks.
There is also a "change to nexus7" zip file in the cm11 thread that probably does the same thing. This is nice because you just add it into the rom/gapps flash. The cm11 rom was the last one I tried to fix this issue before I found "the fix". Now I have to go back and setup HellFire because I haven't found a way to remove the lock screen in CM11.

It turns our non working Kindle app was the least of the problems I had. Shortly after that problem I started getting message SystemUI stopped working and then the screen would flash. 5 or 6 reinstallments, full wipes and the likes later I realised that the ROM was the culprit as after installing HellKat 4.4.2, problem seems to be gone. As for Kindle App, I think problem was latest update which was not compatible with 4.4. I stopped the app from getting new updates and its working for now. Had a glance in quite few Kindle related forums and its seems people agree with that as so many complained of app stoping after getting the update.
As for now, Kindle Fire is happily running HellKat 4.4.2 with lovely red theme. We will see how it goes.

So I just installed CM 10.1.3 and now my kindle app, amazon mp3 app and HBO go apps all crash. I had previously changed the build.prob file to enable access the HBO go, but the amazon apps always worked fine. I just tried to edit build.prob andi I keep getting told that the file is read only. I have tried root explorer and file expert. Any ideas?

Kindle app crashing has a workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48928053#post48928053
Short answer:
download Build.prop Editor from the Play store and use it to change the ro.product.manufacturer line from Amazon to Samsung.
Testing now...
I'm on a stock rooted KFHD 16gb 8.9 with only wifi, 8.5.1
I can install TWRP 2.8.7.0 without issue and restore to stock if needed
I do have adb, android sdk working on win7 32
I have a fast boot cable (used many times )
all the cm ROMs whether nightlies or snapshots I lose the wifi 5g
I really want the 5g and be able to use google play!
Can anyone help me, I do not care if I keep the amazon os but I need/want the play store and the play games stuff.
Any Idea's? All suggestions welcome
And many thanks for all the help I always get here!
