Writing Java on my Phone - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'd like to be able to write Java on my phone sometimes and the autocorrect dictionary gets in the way frequently. Is there a way i can find and download a Java dictionary to install as an input language on my phone's keyboard?
Thanks
P.S. - my phone is completely stock

Have you checked apps like DroidEdit, 920 Text Editor, Condeanywhere, or Quoda Code Editor? (There are others.)

Softkey Changer

I made a little Cab file of the Softkey Changer App I found somewhere in an Extended Rom.
Since there are a lot of people who want to change the softkeys.
Enjoy
what does it do? Is it to change application in the main (today) softkeys?
or can it also change softkey in other applications such as Outlook Mobile?
Thanks in advance.

I too am confused. Isn't there already an option to change whatever application we can launch using the soft key buttons by going to the system settings?
This application is not standard in every Rom.
If you don't have it in your Rom, you can add it now.
Yes you can assign every program to one of the softkeys.
sharky48 thanks for this fantastic thing. I use to have some other one, bu this is just perfect.
Thanks again

This one is much better:
- It allows to select any application whereever the application is.
- Allows to rename the Soft Key Display Name
- The applet can be put on any Tab (Personal, System or Connections) of Settings
Cheers,
.Fred
ps.: the only disavantage is that the size of the applet is 63k against the 18k of yours

You need to unzip the file and copy the applet file to \windows folder then perform a soft reset.

Thanks for the explaination. Appreciate it.
Does anyone know of a way to access call history using the softkeys, or even the hard keys?
On my old C500 i think there was an executable somewhere which opened call history, and it was possible to point a button at this, can't seem to find one on the hermes though.

Thanks! Does anyone has these files: tnsms.exe (for "New SMS" command) and tnmms.exe (for "New MMS" command) in folder: My Pocket PC\Windows\ ? Couldn't run softkeys for "New SMS" or "New MMS".
Thanks again!
so i got the app working but on WM6 even though i changed the soft key in the program on the today screen the right soft key still says menu
what should i try to change that?

There should be an option there to rename it. Just read it carefully. It should be at the top.

wow thanks im stupid.
however still i cannot change the right soft key, even though i have a program selected in the program, on the today screen it still wont change from Menu
So I changed the right soft key to new sms and it didnt work, so I changed it back to Calendar but now it gives me an error:
HTCCalendar.exe
The file "HTCCalendar" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
This is using the former file (soft key changer.zip) not applet.
Even resetting doesnt help.

Hey i don't know much.... but try restarting your PDA.... the first thing you do after all programs are loaded... goto input settings and choose.... the input method you want... then goto the options available for it... and confirm those settings and click ok.... then again exit input settings clicking ok.....
then while entering text in any application... select your input method again if it does not appear as a default.... then probably you won't have to do the above stuff again and again untill and unless you re-boot your device.....
There is a small program called Sip Change....it may fix the problem....

Bluetooth Keyboard and custom key and character mapping

Some custom ROMs, which are not based on HTC roms, but compiled form Android Source support the Bluetooth HID profile, thus support well known and common normal Bluetooth keyboards.
I've tested Cyanogenmod and OpenDesire.
However, I was unsatisfied with the keyboard layout. I've found no key for return, needed some special 'Umlaute' for my German layout, etc.
Here's what I've found to fix all this:
1. Description what can be changed:
Android Open Source Project: Keymaps and Keyboard Input
Until now I don't know the internal differences between the key map and character map files. Sure, both look different, both can and must be changed for different reasons. The key map if you want to change actions and also alter phone buttons, the character map for modifying the full layout. But with the key map you could also alter parts of the layout, so it's not that clear for me. However.
2. Altering Key Map Layout
If you don't specify a keylayout file, Android will default to /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl

So I took a look at this file, changed it, and it worked
Here a nice explanation of this file, explained are the different commands, too.
[GUIDE] How to Remap Hardkey Actions || Custom App Launching
What we not know, the key number of our physical BT keyboard, so what's the number of ESC? For this, I've found following site, which seems to contain the correct scan codes, used in Android: (note, the values are in HEX!!)
http://www.marjorie.de/ps2/scancode-set1.htm
So if we take a look at ESC:
Key: ESC Make: 01 --> in decimal, stays 01
We just have to add following line to the key map layout file:
key 1 BACK WAKE_DROPPED
and we have a back key.
3. Altering Character Map file
To change characters and change the whole layout, it seems as if we have to alter the character Map file. (/system/usr/keychar/qwerty.kcm.bin)
Sadly, this fact makes editing the file somehow difficult:
Resource Binary File Format
The file snippet above [see first link] gets converted to the following [a binary file] by the makekcharmap tool as part of the build process.

I have no idea what this tool is, nor how to revert it back, so we have to edit the binary file. Luckily, one user's done the hard work already, again:
Changing to a non-english keyboard layout [cupcake support]
The easiest method is to use some kind of hexeditor, so you see what you do and can enter the character code of special characters easily, I used the one in Notepad++
Then you can alter the layout just as you like. Because I have a special english keyboard with which I want to type german Umlaute, too, I changed
A.2.a.A.#..
to
A.2.a.A.ä.Ä.
So I can type an 'ä' by holding the 'Alt' key and pressing a. Typing 'Ä' by holding Shift+Alt and typing 'a'.
Unlimited possibilities
Tips:
To alter both files you can use ADB and an editor on your computer.
Or you can alter the files directly on the phone, without any additional hardware. You only need Root Explorer to open, change and save the files directly on the phone.
Drawbacks of changing the layout:
Haven't seen some yet

Importing the personal user dictionary from HTC UDB file. (For custom ROMs)

Hi everyone!
This post is for everyone who has/has not installed a custom ROM and wants to restore his HTC device's personal user dictionary in AOSP/Google or any other keyboard.
Edit: This method also works if you want to copy your stock HTC Keyboard's dictionary to another keyboard like Google Keyboard or others.
Requirements
1.Backup of your user dictionary from HTC device. You must have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file. To get this file go to Settings(on your HTC ROM), and then tap Language & keyboard >Tap HTC Sense Input.>Tap Personal dictionary >Back up to email.
When prompted, tap OK. You have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file now.
2.Any office suite application.(MS Office 2010 Recommended)
3.User Dictionary Manager(UDM). Make sure you have it installed. You can find it on Google Play.
Procedure
1. Open the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file using the Word Processor. Use encoding UTF-8.
2. You will notice all your added words separated by "|" symbol. Select all data and do Ctrl+G
3. Go to Replace tab and type "|" (without qoutes ofcourse). Click on "More" button, and then click on "Special" button. Select Manual Line Break option from the drop down menu.
4.Click on REPLACE ALL button. Wait until all words are arranged in one word per line format.
5.Save the filename as wordlist.txt. Move it to your sdcard.
6.Open the UDM application(ON your Custom ROM). Click on Import. Select "external- TXT file" option. CLick next. Wait until all words are imported to your dictionary.
Note:
If you like UDM app, please rate it. Give respect to the devs.
If you found my post helpful, please don't forget to click the THANKS button.
This method is tested on HTC One X(endeavoru) but it should work on other HTC devices too.
