Is Note 8.0 is too new for some app compatibility?
Google+ , Goggle, Up...
Anyone could give suggestion?
Can you be more specific on your problems? All the Google apps I've tried, including Google+, work just fine for me.

The Chinese stock ROM does NOT support apps that depend on google service. So google+, gmail, drive... all NOT available in that ROM.
You can flash a Taiwan version stock ROM or ROM for other countries. There are some known issues if you just flash the gapps to the Chinese stock ROM, eg, google map won't tell where you are...
Chinese Note 8
Hi,
I'm also stuck with the Mainland China Version of the Note 8, besides being not able to use google.play and other google stuff it seems to be a bit slow on lot of other things.
I tried to replace the chinese version with other ROM's , but sofar it alsways failed when it came to loading/writing modem.bin.
Luckily sofar I was able to recover the unit via Kies.
What I did :
1.download of another stock rom i.e. german
2. install Odin 3 , run it as admin
3. connect the Note to an Windows 7 pc , USB driver works
4. follow the various instructions found here
5. also tried the Note 8 toolkit
6. everything looks fine until it reaches the modem.bin file.
7. failed .....
Also tried it with rooting the Note 8 first via the toolkit
For good order sake pls note the following : Model Number GT-N5100
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband Version N5100ZCBMD2
Kernel Version 3.0.31-1087838
Build Number JZO54K.N5100ZCBMD2
Any suggestion what else to do ? Or which Rom to use ?
Tks

You can try this one. Simply copy it to internal SD and flash it with CWM recovery.
I'm not the owner of this ROM. I think it is based on the rooted ROM published here earlier.
OH... I'm too new to publish a outside link... try use baidu.com and search for " 新欧版rom(奥地利 3 Hutchison通讯)汉化修改版发布!!!" ... Hope this helps...
it works
Hi,
thanks for that tipp. Finally I made it work
Internet access
Hi,
that was a bit premature : the statement it works. Basically it does, however I can't get any data transmission work when not connected to wifi.
Using the phone as a phone is ok, Internet access does not, it says "No network connection available"
With WiFi no problem
Has this something to do with the non chinese Firmware ? Which I would find a bit odd since I never had any problem with importet phones in china sofar.
Anybody has a clue ?
Tks

Hi,
I have sg s3 sgh-i747m from telus and I have been looking every where but couldn't find an answer. The admins are too lazy to make a Canadian section so allot of people who have the same model run into the same problem. Can i use any other roms from other models like sgh-i747 or would I break my device. Also can I can a list of possible of compatible roms? That would be much appreciated.
I need answers and I hope that this will help others in the future.
Thanks
You can use any ROM designed for a d2att. This has been repeated all over the i747/i747m forum. Only stock ROMs are unique, custom ROMs are not.

I ma sorry but what is this d2att? Do i have it?
The d2att is the designation for an AT&T s3 which is the same, hardware wise, as the Rogers, Bell, Telus, Virgin, and Koodo models in Canada.
I just tryed to flash cyanogenmod 11 d2att but failed. it said that i was not d2att.
Try changing ur recovery to latest twrp/cwm works for me sometimes im using bell i747m

I can load Validus, CM11, and Cyanfox which are all 4.4.2-based ROMs and this is on an i747m that was running stock 4.1.2. I never updated beyond the 4.1.2 bootloader. Have a look at the updater script in the ROM and it will tell you which bootloaders are supported.
Apparently I was d2mtr. I managed to install cm 11. Thanks guys =)

There is no stock Android 5.0 ROM for the sgh-i747m. Samsung stopped at 4.4.2.
If you want 5.0, you'll need to flash a custom recovery such as TWRP and then a custom ROM.
CrDroid O/S works good on my old Samsung Galaxy S3 i747

I'm not sure how many of us are out there, tinkering around with the 8+ year old Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 . While I am a newbie, I have enjoyed flashing Custom ROM's , from CyanogenMod, thru various versions of Lineage, and now CrDroid. The newest O/S that I flashed is CrDroid ( based on Android 8 ). Runs great. Stable. Long battery life.
I have always used ODIN to INSTALL a 'recovery' system such as TWRP ( which is a .Tar file )
After TWRP is installed ( using ODIN ) I unplug phone from my computer. Then boot into TWRP recovery ( holding down the three buttons ). I do a clean install (flash) of the newest O/S that I can find ( Android 4.4 is really old ). It is that .Zip file that I flash, then reboot the phone. Always works for me. Eventually I learned how to back up all my contacts, SMS, logs, photos, etc.
BTW I am totally free of Google; no Google Play Store, no Google Pay, no Google Framework, no Gapps, no Google spyware, no Google bloatware, no Google tracking etc.
I download all my apps as APK's which are readily available on the Net ( Google them . . . just kidding! ).
My older Samsung S3 i747 was a 'd2att' originally locked to Rogers, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Then switched over to MTS (Manitoba Telephone System). Now running on Bell Canada. My replacement is also a Samsung S3 i747, originally running T-Mobile in Arizona, now running on Bell Canada.
These are damn fine phones.
Friend,
It's been so long, I don't even remember why I made this post. What you said about Odin and TWRP does sound familiar though. My S3 died years ago, I haven't done any phone modifications since.
Kind regards,
Keven

Well, that post of yours was from February 2014. Just like yesterday, eh?
But so sorry to hear about your S3. I thought these phones were indestructible!
They are so easy to tinker around with, without bricking. And because these Samsung Galaxy S3 phones are plentiful, zero cost, they're worry free when having fun messing around with them!
Take care, be safe & be healthy.

I've just come into possession of an old i747m. Still works, top glass is all cracked. But digitiser is undamaged. Touch screen works... I'm wanting to use it to play music in my garage while I tinker.. so I can still use my main phone and not have it plugged in...(Bluetooth speaker is on the blink you see)...it sorely needs a tune up though.. just want to be able to stream music through Spotify or pandora and use turbo VPN if I need to.. play store is seemingly not wanting to work well...
I'll have a go at your instructions... Provided I can still find links to all the files. Cheers

Good day Khotaghora, please note the following instructions worked for me after many hours of banging my head off brick walls and flashing different roms including going back to the latest stock from sammobile.
Make sure you remove the current gear manager.
Download and copy the following gear manager http://twosx.net/xdadev/Gear/1.7.031004/com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager_1.7.031004.apk to your device. Note, I have not supplied this, from what I can gather it was ripped off the s5 sources, thanks go to Omniwolf for supplying the apk's on XDA.
Ensure in your phones settings under security you have unknown sources ticked.
Install the apk, usually just click on the downloaded file from your favorite browser.
Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on.
I'm not sure if you need to, but at this point I paired the Gear2 with my phone, it will pair as a handsfree device oh the irony.
When you run the manager it will look completely different from the old image asking you to sync, I could see the device at the top of the screen, clicking on it fired up both the watch and the manager.
Good luck with your new device, here is hoping dev's start porting some apps to the Gear2, the store is looking a bit bare at the moment.
Hi trickyburn. Thanks a lot for explaining this into detail. I can confirm that I have managed to get the Gear 2 Neo working with my S4 following your instructions. I actual posted your URL on another forum and some more people have benefited from your post. I wish Samsung had released the latest version of Gear Manager before the release of Gear 2.
Cheers,
KhotaGhora
Check your versions before applying any old s5 based fix, the version 2 gear manager is based on 4.4.2 API's so wont work. the above mentioned 1.7.031004 does work on 4.3 however
4.4.2 based roms might be able to use the updates from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2677686
However note I have not tested these as i'm on 4.3 stock at the moment

Max Weinbach posted on https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-note8-bootloader-odin/ that Samsung 8/8+/Note 8 January update come with a new bootloader that
1) can not downgrade your phone after installing this
2) block Prince Comsy’s modded Odin.
Max wrote one consequence is: "Note8 owners with the carrier Note8 devices cannot flash the US unlocked firmware. If you try to flash the carrier unlocked firmware on carrier phone, it will hard brick your phone". But later make this correction as an EDIT: After being tested by XDA Senior member me2151, it turns out cross region flashing does work. Prince Comsy Odin is working, but we can not test if the factory binary flashing will hard brick your phone. So flashing US unlocked onto a US carrier device should work.
I will like to buy a Note 8 and what I want to do is have 2 (or more) ROM (OS) and be able to multi boot. I have 4 questions regarding this. With the January update can I use multi boot ROM (MultiROM, DualBootPatcher, or any other) on:
1) The Unlock International Version (install the T-mobile ROM and other ROMs)?
2) The Unlock US Version (install the T-mobile ROM and other ROMs)?
3) The T-Mobile (Snapdragon) version (Install US unlock version ROM and other ROMs)? As far said here: https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-update-805328/ the T-mobile Janaury update is not out yet for T-Mobile, so a T-Moile Note 8 is not supposed to be affected by it.
The 4th questions is: Lets said I have T-Mobile Note 8, Im succesfull installing a multi boot, I have 3 ROMs simulstaniously. ROM 1 is the T-Mobile ROM that came with the phone, ROM 2 is Unlock US Note 8 ROM and ROM 3 FireFox OS. Everything work fine. Then After that, came out the “January” update for T-Mobile and I installed (because I need to be protected by the vulnerabities if fix). But the update change the bootloader. The question is> Will I be able to multi boot the 3 ROMs, like was doing before instaling the update? Or the 2 non carrier ROMs will be affected by the boot loader change made by the update, and the T-mobile phone will only able to boot to the original T-Mobile ROM that came with the phone? Or when the update change the boot loader will mess (probably brick) the whoe phone not letting me to boot what ever ROM it have (the T-Mobile and and the other 2 ROMs)
I'm sorry not meaning to sound rude but I almost fell asleep midway through reading your post... 1st of all from what I gathered your buying a international note 8? And then want to flash multiboot which I personally only used when running touchwiz Rom and say a ASOP Rom if you will... but you need to keep in mind that your not gonna find too many roms over here on the snapdragon devices. I will tell you if you want to utilize multiboot then don't buy a Samsung. I used multiboot on my LGv20 having stock rooted as my daily and Lineage as my 2nd.

I was told that Snapdragon Note 8 (US unlock and US carrier) does not have unlocked boot loader, therefore is impossible to multiboot.
The question is if the Exynos model could be used to multiboot?
The #1 reason I decided against the international model was issues with Carrier Aggregation I even asked the question in this forum and the international forum about if any fix had been found...I just wasn't willing to shell out that kind of money and not have the phone work properly switching between towers. I went with a US unlocked version...should be here Thursday.
in regards to multi-boot...I believe that would be processor dependent (someone please correct me if I am wrong.) and thus you would need to inquire in the international forum if there is a multi-boot for the exynos chipsets.
Hi XDA-Developer members!
I am hoping someone can assist me in choosing a new phone. I have been using several Samsung S4s on AT&T for over 7 years with no problems.
I am a developer, so I rooted the S4 and installed many helpful apps like Xposed, Titanium backup, etc.
One VERY helpful (and a MUST have ability) was using flashfire which allowed me to do image backups. This allowed me to backup my current daily on a monthly basis and if it failed, I could be up and running on a spare S4 simply by doing a restore.
Well, AT&T just informed me they will not activate any new S4's and my current S4 will stop working in 2022 because it doesn't support VoLTE.
So, I am in the market for a new phone. But all the new phones have huge displays which doesn't work well for my preferred storage location of my front pocket.
However, I did find that the Samsung S9 is close enough to what the S4 provided:
Smaller then 6" screen
External Memory Slot
OLED display
3.5mm Headphone jack
So the last hurdle for the S9 to pass for me to use it is that I need to be able to root the S9 so I can run/install apps like these:
Magisk
Xposed (EdXposed)
Titanium Backup
TWRP or Flashfire
Hotspot (this is a MUST)
I have used ODIN to do simple flash updates to my S4 and other samsung devices, but I have little experience flashing a new kernel/bootloader. But I am willing to follow directions to do these.
I have no preference to any particular Android version, I would be fine to use Oreo, Pie or Q (remember I am currently still using Lollipop on my S4!!!)
I do prefer to use stock samsung roms instead of custom roms like Lineage
So I have some questions:
Should I get the AT&T model of the S9 (960U) or a G9600 or a G9500?
If you recommend the G9600, does it support all the AT&T bands? (I just want to get a good signal anywhere in the u.s.)
What thread should I use to root/Magisk the S9?
What thread should I used to install TWRP or flashfire so I can do image backups/restores?
What "gotchas" will I run into? (like fingerprint not working, camera not working, etc)
Any help to find a new replacement for my trusty old S4 would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to return the favor of buying you a few drinks of your choice!
